Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls)

Has anybody ever owned a Volks FCS doll with cat or another kind of non human ears? Are they as cute in person as they are in pictures?

 

Well, I had to try something fun. As Volks has been doing the new midi head thing, I stuck my sd girls head on a sdc body, and it's kinda fun!

I have collected most of the Volks optional ears and just love them with my msd -13. Most of the time they are elves.

CathyM: Renee is so cute! Congrats! My girls head is a bit big and funny, but the sdc Kade head is just to small to me. Gotta try it out as the SDC body is awesome!

My F-20 FCS in Sunlight skin arrived safely last month and had been waiting patiently to go to the faceup artist but sadly the artist, after initially saying I had a spot with her and she'd be delighted to do my girl, never responded to my emails! In the end I decided to give my girl a faceup myself and save a bit of money! I wanted her to look young, and am really happy with how she came out, which is a miracle in itself as usually I'm so critical in my own attempts at faceups! She is still without a name but I'm thinking maybe Islay? I heard this name somewhere recently and thought it sounded quite nice.

 

What a beautiful faceup! I wish I had your talent. I love the name Islay and think it really suits your girl.

 

Your Renee is just adorable, @CathyM! I've been tempted to get one of my own, but I'm not sure I can justify it because I feel like the sculpt is quite similar to my SDC May. (Wouldn't they make such good sisters, though?!)

@NekoNyanMew oh May!! I love her... I can't decide if I want to try for a Mina or a May eventually. Yours is swaying me in May's favor a bit. I love the way you styled her! That outfit is absolutely precious.

 

Gosh, I'm so digging Gino, what an awesome doll! I've been on the lookout for an F-13 for what feels like ages and just havent found one, they're so hard for me to find... Thank you so much for sharing! Gino is adorable.

Here's my Arashi with some silicon elf ears I borrowed at a meet, they just slide on top of the ears and fit MSD or SD. No other colors sadly, but I still like them. As close to an f-13 as I'll get for awhile lol.

If you're looking for a good deal on Mina/May, I'd suggest browsing Y!J. I bought my May from there for a really great price, although she did need some airing out because she came from a smoking home.

I have some bookmarked on Mandarake, but maybe it's time to branch out into Y!J. Or maybe not... I don't need to discover even more good deals; Mandarake almost ruined me when I finally started using it.

 

@redfeathers I was going to say, I have also seen really cheap ones on Mandarake! It seems like if they are missing ANY of the fullset, suddenly the price drops a lot.

Finally going on Mandarake is what got me my first (and so far only) Volks doll, my SDC SWD Kaede. She was a totally unplanned purchase, not that I'm complaining But I'm trying to keep a strict dolly budget this year and Mandarake's siren song is the last thing I need!

 

@redfeathers Mandarake is what hooked me back into dolls too! I was coming back to the hobby and saw that Volks had revamped MSD into SDM and there were lots of cute molds... so I impulse bought a super cheap SDM Dai on Mandarake and it's quickly snowballed from there, LOL

SDC Renee was still languishing on the Volks online shop so I finally succumbed and picked her up after all. I changed her eyes and wig pretty quick but she's very cute! If folks are curious here's how she looks with SDC Mina- quite distinct in person.

 

Has anyone had any luck finding more photos of the new F-52? I really like it in like the 4 Volks I've been able to find.

 

I'm sure you know...MSD sized Volks is impossible to find photos of if it hasn't been out for years and years...I don't know why that is, MSD Volks are still very popular and well bought but images of them just don't circulate well >_<;;;

Which I'm sure you've seen. I guess I'm a little guilty myself >_>;;; I have F-16, 22, 31, 32, and 35...that I never take pictures of and instead gaze at adoringly not sharing. And I sit most of the time in fear that 40, 41, 46, and now 51 will be available for purchase on Online FCS one of the times I actually check it...

They're making SDM versions of SD Kira and SD Sweet Dreams Nana!! SwD Nana was my grail for so long, but unfortunately when I finally got her things didn't really click. I never had the heart to sell her, thinking that someday things would work out...

They've also YoSD-fied Mako and Dai. They got even poutier

 

While I agree, I think there are some who do slim mini very well, and some just trying to ride the trend wave with it. Either way, besides Fairyland, I've never really understood the interest ^_^;;; hence why I adore MSD SDM classic proportions from Volks.

I'm always glad to see Volks sticking to their traditions while innovating over time, and I am glad to see people enjoying it! Now if they could bring back online FCS so we can enjoy it more lol.

I asked them details on coming FCS...and got nothing lol, basically: "Thanks for your interest, no clue"

@PinkBear I think some of those companies used to have MSD-equivalent bodies but have since gone closer to slim MSD, or offered both options. Interestingly, I feel like most Asian clothing companies still use MSD as their standard for 1/4 size clothing; certainly there is a lot more Minifee and slim mini-specific stuff in the English-speaking community, though.

@Artemos I thought VolksUSA has generally only offered the Online FCS for about half the year, like April to September-ish?

Should I go ahead and buy a Renne or should I wait for the full choice system on the US Volks? I mostly want Renne for her cat like smile. Would it be able to get a doll like that on the FCS?

 

@aireoko - Renee is a limited sculpt on the Super Dollfie Cute body which is more like a Unoa, a more mature mini. The FCS will be for the SDM body, and so far none of the sculpts offered have the same cat qualities Renee does.

I don't know much about the SD size heads, but the closest SDM FCS sculpt to Renee is F-21. I think it's a Sato only mold though, so there's no chance of getting it through the USA FCS. I say go for the Renee!

 

I love the Sato one but sadly you are right about the low chances of getting it through the USA FCS. Thank you @RamenDoodles for making the decision easier to pick. Renee for me it is!

 

@aireoko The closest Sdm head sculpt to Renee would be Fcs Msd or Sdm F-21. It is not the same as Renee but reminds me of her. It comes with optional ears like elf or cat. It is a hard sculpt to find on the 2nd hand market.

Yes thank you! Naturally they added a head which is before and after a sculpt I would prefer to buy >_<;;;

Anyone remember their normal list of SDM choices? I may still just buy one for the heck of it, but I don't want the current addition.

I am guessing Sdm f20, f33 and f40 because they are Featured in the ad.

 

Also f37? I think they are introducing f37 as a new selection. I'm thinking of f40, the face is so cute.

 

That would be excellent, F-40 was one of the sculpts I was trying to get as a coordinated model from Japan just before my Sato connection left TvT it sadly never came to fruition. F-40 is an interesting face and has just a little bit of the old anime style in it, it makes such a great boy and there are tons of examples of it since it seems to be popular as an FCS choice in JP.

Now to hope it's actually offered.

Hi new to the thread here I have a SDC Mina and I love love her face sculpt, however I just cannot love the SDC body and am thinking of hybridizing her. Does anyone here have experience with hybrid volks head/other bodies? Would greatly appreciate any input!

Yes, I saw many photos of f40 on Instagram I agree, I think the eyes and tiny lips make them look a little bit of anime. Great mold :-)

Your Sdc Mina head should work on the Volks Msd and Sdm body.

@Euphie I have my SDC Ryu on a LUTS body with SOOM rabbit legs, I'd be more than happy to take more photos for you. My Ryu is much less yellow, and I think the LUTS body is in pureskin normal or normal skin. You can see from the neck that the color isn't totally awful, and I think the body works PERFECT. =D (The SOOM legs on the other hand dont match at the knees)


@ginarolo I'm so excited to finally own an F-13! Now to just find those fin/dragon ears! the one I nabbed has those lovely long elf ears like in your icon. And wow that's an interesting hybrid for sure!

 

I'm still a little sad about them offering F-37 this time around, it's a fine sculpt but rather plain compared to many they have yet to offer. It never works, but I went ahead and mailed them in hopes to encrouage F-41, and F-46 -> F-49 being offered in the future.

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed, many of the SD and MSD sculpts lately have been older/younger versions of each other? Not all of them, but some are very much alike...

Going to make my final decision when they put the new page up, I've decided to sell some dolls from another company that I have many of and can reinvest that into new outfits for my crew maybe...I will try to put pictures up for them eventually ^_^;;;

 

@Artemos Its not just you, I’ve been feeling many sculpt releases lately have had a very similar feeling. It’s making me go searching for older sculpts I missed before the “sameness” in releases started.

 

@Artemos Out of 12 new dolls released in the last year, only two were actually brand new molds (Mel & Cain). The rest were either rereleases, resized dolls (like Nico & Mai), or dreaming versions. It feels like they've been focusing a little more heavily on the FCS molds, but of course internationally we don't get a lot of that!

 

I don't mind sculpts that seem similar, 48 and 49 have a lot of similarities and are both special, but out of the last 20 or so sculpts, there have been at least 5 or more that need a good faceup to make them unique at all.

There is a good chance that even if I don't order one from this batch, any new sculpts after would be one I really want! But of course we'll see! Admittedly I'm really after F-41, 44, and 46, given time it'll happen I'm sure!

 

I just noticed on the new sites that Volks put up for Kira & SWD Nana that they'll be on SDM Origin bodies, but they don't have any details. Wonder how they'll differ from the usual!

 

@ekala, Origin bodies are usually one-piece torsos; no torso joint! Which some people think are prettier, but can be a little limited in posing. It's hard to make one-piece torsos sit up straight; they lean backwards easily.

 

I keep waiting for the US FCS to offer a SDM sculpt I like and want but that's stating to seem less and less likely as the years pass.

 

Just a popping in here to let folks know that the Tenshi no Sato Angel event for spring is on this month! It looks like there are coordinate models featuring: SDM-F-40, SDM-F-Yugiri and SD-F-Shiratori. I don't know know if anyone is looking for tenshi who have descended to Sato but now would be a good time to search if you are!

I'd been waiting on a Licht order and it finally got here Rica (SDC Mina) got new shoes, and Maaya (SDC Renée) got a new wig. Happy dance!
