Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls)

I have a Mina and a May on Layaway, so I will soon be able to contribute more to the discussions here. Cannot wait to get her!

@eleniel - Oh, I'm all about MSD girls xD They constitute the majority of my collection! I didn't really realize it before, but lots of Volks girls just perfectly fit my aesthetic.

Congrats on your layaway as well, @WindGuardKT !! When do you estimate having your May home?

 

Thank you for making this thread. It would have likely have been a while since I had anything Mini related to actually post, but wanted to see one up for a while, especially after speaking to eleniel about it.

Hi everyone! I received my first Midi yesterday! She came while I was out helping my boyfriend pick up his new toy (a new motorcycle!), so yesterday was a satisfying day for both of us, I think She is an SDM Dai that I snagged for a great price on Mandarake - don't we all love buying a doll and receiving it only a week later? I think she will probably just stay on the boy body for now, since the male and female body are so similar.

I'm currently sewing through Hanon's Doll Sewing Book for her, in the L (Unoa) size. Here's the first piece, the Peter Pan Collar Dress.

It was a little too oversized for me, so I unpicked and reattached the skirt 3cm higher. Other than that, no adjustments; seems like the Unoa patterns will work just fine!

Picked up a lovely new outfit for Mina, pretty sure it's Volks but I don't know the name or release. I'm curious to know if anybody recognizes it ^_^

Her girl, on the left, is an older F-12, while mine on the right was ordered via FCS during the Sato-only limited run for this discontinued headmold in 2013.

She is just so lovely! Love her pink hair and background. The make up looks very nice and the dress is cute.
Also combined with good photography technique and makes her more beautiful.

 

I'm pretty sure this is the LPC "Sugar Angel Dress Set" from Dolpa 18. Hope that helps~

Hehe, thanks! Yes, Rowan is an Arashi (Mr. O.G. SDC) and Robin is a Ryu (though it's hard to see him with those big shades on). They're my only Volks mini dolls, so I've only ever subscribed to the SDC thread before....

 

My SDM Mako came in the mail on Tuesday! I have to start ordering wigs and outfits for her. I already know what I want her to look like which is even better. I'll post pictures in about a week once all her stuff is here! I'm also not sure if I want to have her faceup changed... hmm.

 

Congratulations, @RainyAeon ~ Mako is adorable! (I keep thinking about ordering her just because I love her default wig... e___e) I hope you have a lot of fun shopping for her. ♥

 

The new combined thread makes a lot of sense, since there wasn't a lot of discussion going on in the older threads anyway, so I'm sure everyone will enjoy a more lively thread with many participants

Love, love, love the new thread! And all the amazing lovlies (and audacious bad boys) gracing these pages are a true feast for the eyes! Isn't it wonderful how each doll is so different and unique from the rest in both looks and character? It's a true testimony to the beauty and versatility of Volks in my humble opinion. And here's my F-13, Pixel. She's one of the sculpts with detachable ears...but she came without ears, so I made her Chobit ears from the manga by Clamp.

 

Omg.. f-13 is GORGEOUS! I love her sweet expression! Thanks for sharing.

 

Heheh, thanks-- I think Rowan & Robin are already aware of their powers of Cute. : They wouldn't admit it, though, no. (They're more the LOOKIT MY BICEPS BRO type.)

Where ever did that perfectly-sized couch come from? I like putting the boys on the big oversized SD couches, but having something their own size would be so cool!

 

Hello everyone It's great to see everyone's dolls They are all so cute~~ I just got a sdm Mihmi last Friday~ I have one small question regarding to seamlines... My sdm Mihmi is perfectly smooth without any seamlines while my sdc May (from 2014) still has hers... is that consider normal because I don't think volks offer seamline removal for fullset dolls.... >_>

 

I think they actually did that, but only for customers from Japan.
However, I've got to say that my Mina has hardly any seamlines while my Liz had some faint ones, so I guess it's just by accident, that some dolls have more seamlines and others less.

@JennyNemesis I bought this couch from Ebay. That's actually a very common size for a doll couch here, I guess most doll collectors have dolls in the size range 35 -50 cm and that's why they make them that way. On the other hand, there are hardly any couches in SD size available here.

 

I am so happy to see the threads have been combined! Maybe this will be a bit more active.
I haven't had much time for dolly things, but I now have the urge to take my Hewitt out to play soon.

 

Just in case people haven't seen this in the other Volks threads, I'm reposting the new FCS page!
Two new molds for MSD, two for SD, new forearms and hands for the SD, and the updated SD boy body have all been added. Oh, and a limited run for the SD16 body from June 19th to August 29th.

 

Most pleased all are now in one thread.

Here is another picture from my Ryotaro's his first photo shoot.

 

His clothes are great! I especially love the jeans and the sneakers. Are the jeans Volks? Those are really goodlooking.

The outfit was assembled for one of my Unoa boys who has not yet been photographed in it.
The sneakers are standard MSD size bought off ebay 7 years ago. Their construction is bulkier than the more expensive more in scale ones available now.
The jeans are these:
MSD Slim black washing Jean
They fit my regular MSD girl and SDM Ryo snugly like a skinny jeans style. Because SDM has better jointing they can sit straight in them; however, the snap will need to be opened for previous MSD body to sit in them.

 

Ah, TTYA would've been my next guess. ^^ They do some nice lovely denims for sure.

I'm always leery about buying MSD size jeans for the SDC boys, because while their waists are slimmer, they're leggier & just shaped differently in general. I am lucky to have gotten StrangeAngels to make SDC-shaped jeans for these guys, because everybody needs at least one good pair of jeans in their life (dolls and humans both).

PS I didn't even ask, what sculpt is Ryotaro? Is he a Minoru?

 

I've never seen or handled an SDC in person and recall only having seen comparison pictures of them with MSD. If you meen leggier as in longer legs and not thicker thighs then it is possible several TTYA pants styles could fit because they tend to be longer to accommodate more "MSD" sizes of dolls.
Most definitely good jeans are a must for all my dolls. You are indeed lucky. I've seen in person StrangeAngels pants for SD17 and SD16 and they are perfection.

My boy is "Kataoka Ryotaro" (Ryotaro Kataoka) with SDMB-L-01 normal leg and
"Minoru Uemura" (Minoru Kamimura) has SDMB-L-02 long leg.
I'm not as expert as you in identifying face sculpts. I have to see heads together looking straight ahead and in profile to note differences.
Maybe someone here has both of the boys to tell us for certain whether they are the same sculpt with only slight variation in the face painting.

I have a F-27 MSD girl!!

I've heard this mould is discontinued now and I think I also saw the Volks' notice before...
But I cannot find the notice... Does anyone know about this?? or can you give me a link?​

 

@plantist: I don't have the Volks notice or anything but the JP FCS wiki says that F-27 is discontinued. I'm fairly certain it's grey for Sato only, blue for available at Sumika, and white for discontinued. I'm not too sure about pink. I think it's discontinuing soon?

Oh yes, of course! I had totally forgotten about Minoru's friend Ryotaro.... probably because I have never seen one before! Yours is the first. He is a real cutie. And he definitely looks different without the military academy uniform.

They're similar, but not the same sculpt; he looks LIKE Minoru, but his eyes & nose & mouth are all a bit different. Looks like they were designed and sculpted at the same time, or something, because their looks are very harmonious together. Like they were built to be best friends.

I'm glad I finally got to see one of these guys. I still haven't met a Minoru IRL either-- neither of them seemed too popular on this side of the world.

Hi everyone I don't think I've ever uploaded my minis' pix here.
My first bjd was an MSD Hisui, who was rehomed about a year ago, but MSD's are quite addicting... X)
These are newest member of my doll collection, Line (Mako), and Nune (Myu) who just recently switched over to SDMB body *__*
I also have another MSD on layaway, I can't wait to meet her.

@kuro --Thanks! And yes, it is a hanbok! Good eye. It's extremely well made and true to the traditional techniques as well. *___* I think I might purchase another set for my new MSD

 

It's one of the BJD costume artist in China called Rapunzel, her dreses are fairy like! This one is her works back in 2014, I waited for super long time to get it from Chinese marketplace.
