Today Volks announced that Dollfie ICON is a go and coming soon via Facebook! I'm sorry if it is presumptuous of me to put it in the SD sections based on the examples they showed at LA Dolpa 3. Spoiler: image 2 http://puu.sh/DUAwJ/c8c2f15b35.jpg I am personally super excited to see where this line goes. Fantasy colors+ Volks is like a dream come true! And look at that gorgeous tone. Starting off great. Edit: They will be available at LA Dolpa 4. You can see them for the first time at San Diego Comic Con during the date/time listed above! Please people get pictures!
very excited for more details! for some reason i was under the impression that they were going to be 1/4 scale but looking back i think that was my wishful imagination at work. either way, the potential is very exciting and i’m super stoked to see the full range of colors! and to see what volks does with these dolls, because the promo image feels so different from the usual volks aesthetic.
I’m excited to see what this turns into. I also hope with additional colors that there are some nice fantasy head options, like changeable ears. Options!
Thats very attractive, I love the body shape and the color I see in the teaser very sassy Is there more information about them, and can we add it to the OP so that newcomers like me dont annoy the people in the know I tried googling, but I dont see much. I saw a few but not in the purple color like the teaser Are they vinyl? Are they dollfie dream heads or the SD heads? I really really like the body shape and color in the teaser
I’m very curious to see what they do with this new line. Colored resin is a nice way to add to a companies variety of dolls. The ability to have more fantasy style dolls in a variety of different resin colors can make for some beautiful characters.
It’s supposed to be vinyl with the SD aesthetic, according to the forums at DollDreaming. Dollfie Icon
I'm so excited for this line! I can't wait for more information. I love how poseable my DDS is, but definitely prefer the Super Dollfie aesthetics.
I love that they are doing darker colors than they showed at the last LA Dolpa. They had a pale blue, pale green and pale pink/purple. Here is the photo I took at the tea party when they first talked about them. Heather Kamp on Instagram: “#dollfieicon” Edit: I thought there was more than one photo but it looks like I was wrong.
@misskale she looks like Volk's Josephine March, but anime version. She's very very very pretty Hopefully, before I get my hopes up, that its open internationally and not tied to US/JAPAN only like the FCS I dont think I want to get attached only to get heartbroken
Imagine what those secondhand prices are going to be like, @GreenTeaSlug. I wonder if my interest in vinyl will be piqued once more...
Count me in as intrigued. Absolutely loving the color but it's all going to depend on the how the face looks! Definitely can't wait to see what options will become available too.
Here I was thinking one vinyl doll was enough for me, guess I was very wrong Can't tell if I'm excited or scared for my wallet! That color though, so gorgeous
I saw this post yesterday and it got me curious to see what they are introducing that will be new and different
I'm excited for this line as well! I don't own any Vinyls or DDs because I'm not a fan of the anime aesthetic, but I've always wanted their poseability for my resins. This is a game changer for sure Can't wait to hear more news! As @c4tbus has said, this looks very different than their usual aesthetic, which I am so happy about. From just the teaser it looks like they're steering towards a more 'modern' fashion and style choices for this line, as opposed to the frilly giant baby look of many SD fashions they've got going on currently
Though there are probably better quality photos out there, thought I'd share pics I took of the 3 prototypes shown at the 2017 Dolpa. The skintone of the FB teaser is definitely more bold than the subtle pastels of the prototypes. I wonder if the faces have changed much. Oh! I'm super excited about these. I love magical, ethereal looking dolls. I wonder if there will be both boys and girls, and elf head molds! I also wonder if they'lI do extra fantasy-ish outfits for these dolls rather than their modern clothes or period costume clothes. I do hope the wrist joints will look a bit nicer though. I'm not a big fan of the dd unnaturally round and pronounced looking wrists. But maybe I'm hoping for too much.
Very interesting! I'm also curious to see where they'll go with this line, the sculpting style reminds me of those Evangelion kits they released awhile back: ボークス ホビー企画室公式 on Twitter
the new promo picture looks like she is wearing the same/similar outfit as the first teaser. it’s such a cool look. can’t wait to see more!
Ahh me too! I hope the joints aren't 100% circular or that I get used to them >_< With shimmer on the faceup too Love this new color! Would be cool to see a pretty pink one next!!
so pretty! the photo dolls kinda reminds me of peakswood that i also love! it would be great if a Vinyl version of bjd comes out. no yellowing, and lighter
There's another image on Facebook of one that is kinda a peachy pink (looks different from Volks fair/normal skin to me which tends more yellow undertone but my screen color may be a little off too )
@Nell the shoes picture? it looks like it has a little more pink undertone to me too. and probably a trick of the light but it also seems to have a little shimmer to it?
Yep that one @c4tbus It's a little difficult to tell, isn't it! Hoping we get some good pics from comic con tomorrow.
Wowow! This caught me by surprise, but really how fun? Those colors are wonderful, can't wait to learn and see more about this!
@c4tbus where can you watch the panel livestream? I'll be at work but if it's recorded I wanna seeee!
Just FYI, the panel will be on Sunday, July 21st at 12:00 pm PDT. I don't know if Volks themselves will be livestreaming on a third-party website, but I'm sure they will tweet or post about it when it starts It'll be around 11pm my time, a little late, but not after midnight type of late haha. I'm excited! Its been a while since I've watched a livestream of an event I'm interested in Also, on the SDCC website, the description of the panel doesn't seem to imply its a Volks-only talk. It seems its a general BJD panel with a Volks highlight on their new line. This is kinda surprising since I've always had the impression that Volks liked their exclusivity and to release a new line amidst other competing companies sounds a bit weird to me, but I could be wrong.
Oh wow, I'm so intrigued! I've never really cared for the Dollfies or other vinyl dolls, so I'm hoping that this isn't the beginning of a whole new doll wishlist for me. Looking forward to the panel news tomorrow!
Looks like Volks is trying to emulate some of the styles pioneered by Korean BJD companies, (assuming the sculpts haven't changed much from the prototypes original shown at LA dolpa) which remind me of Peakswoods and Soom Mini/Little Gem, but it is interesting that they decided to make them in vinyl. Also seems their aiming at the American market particularly? It would be interesting to know why they they thought this combination of elements would be something American Volks fans would want, specifically, and why they don't seem anticipate demand for them in Japan/Korea.
The official Dollfie ICON page is up! Now that it's clear that the internal frame is the same as the DDII, we can grandfather these into being On Topic. The thread is reopened~
The Volks USA rep here contacted the team just a short while ago to confirm the structure of the new line, prior to putting up a News blurb about them:
I really love the look of these, but is the elbow joints and wrist joints on the fantasy colors going to be that lighter shade? Ouch on the price for now.....
yall i am so pumped on these !!! i am so in love with the minty fresh color, and it’s cool that they come with a lot of cute outfit pieces!
Are there any public photos from the SDCC panel out there? Q&A responses? I'm curious about the elbow/wrist joint color mismatch. It's very unlike Volks to showcase an unfinished product on it's webpage but I can't imagine they won't update that before release.
I just read on the VolksUSA Dolpa page about Dollfie Icon : The Limited Dollfie® released only at "Tenshi-no-Sato", "Tenshi-no-Mado", and "Doll Point" in Japan will be here in the United States for the Northern America fans! Haven’t you thought "I wish they could be here!", and now they are! So, I guess we shall see them pop up at these places in the future. Looks like we all guess correctly, they will be special lottery at LA Dolpa 4 on Sept. 8 so anyone attending Dolpa I guess will be able to try for them.
Hello! Just popping in to say that the text in question is referring to the "event item category" and is not specifically for Dollfie® ICON. This text was on the website prior to cover the Dear SD, Coordinate Models, other Limited Dollfie®, and goods before being updated with the information for Dollfie® ICON. ^^; I'm really sorry for the confusion! We'll be updating the text on the website soon to reflect the new addition of Dollfie® ICON~
Is the body sculpt the same as DDIII, or just the frame? I was hoping we'd see something a little more SD-like in vinyl. I think I'm safe after all! Luckily.
Not even trying to fix the joint color seems very lazy and not very how to put this... Volks-like? They usually take pride in covering all grounds, but huh. Oh well. It's not terrible and I guess I can dye it myself. Still hoping an answer to if they'll be available for online folks. Not really up for falling in love with another expensive click war lol. That blue is calling my name so hard.
It is a bit weird that the skeletons are custom colored to match the rest of the doll, but maybe they were concerned with color stability in the hard plastic over time? Looking forward to seeing them in person at Dolpa, though I won't enter the lottery for them. I want to see the pierced ears up close!
I read over on the news thread for Dollfie Icon, someone has mentioned they have asked Volks regarding the mismatched joint colors and they replied that the "images on the website are of the final product"? I'm not really sure how accurate or true this is but can @VolksUSA confirm or deny this? It seems really weird. I was suprised with the amount of pieces included with each doll too! It seems really cool They look like they're aiming for a modern fashion-doll style, which I hope they can pull off- something like the style of Bratz fashion pieces would be awesome!! Those girls really were trendy!
That's a fun thought, though I'd rather they were grey in that case. I wonder how that type of plastic takes dye anyway. Definitely cute, but not a face I absolutely need right now.
@Chamillia yeah! i thought it was gonna be one simple/similar set per doll, but a modular wardrobe is so exciting! and the white is a good call, no staining and it really highlights the unique skintone! i’m curious if they will release more outfits geared towards the fashion sensibilities of icon. @Nell did you see that the petal, iris, and mint skintones have a ‘pearly glow’? it wasn’t just a trick of the light that the legs promo picture had micro-shimmer.
I'm so sorry for misreading @VolksUSA! Thank you very much for clarifying! Are these photos of Dollfie Icon, the final versions of the dolls? Is there a reason that their elbow and wrist joints don't match the coloured bodies? Will there be a Dollfie panel at LA Dolpa giving us more information? Looking forward to seeing them at LA Dolpa!
It looks like each color is a different character, and the site shows both open eyes and half-closed “romantic” eyes - I assume the extra heads for each girl will be available separately?
Spoiler: image 2 Spoiler: image 3 My pictures from comic Con lol. Really surprised why they wouldn't change the joints More pics Spoiler: image 4 Spoiler: image 5 Spoiler: image 6 Petal skin is similar to fresh new dream of doll skin tone. The tan is similar to the old dark dz tan. The mint is a light bluish green. And the purple is a nice dark and rich lavender. I couldn't personally catch the pearlescence indoors for these pics but I also didn't shine light on them. Pictures taken with Google pixel 2, no edit/adjustment, room light, looks accurate to color to me. They mentioned the bodies will be a little firmer due to the color/pearlescent additives and NA exclusive (hopefully just for now?) The sleepy sculpt looks similar to dod Delphine irl. Not sure where people are getting peakswoods look
Terra does remind me of Peakswoods, now that you mention it. Volks did say these were prototypes, so by the time they are for sale they'll have joints the right color. It is too bad they couldn't get the prototypes fully ready considering the joints seem to be what everyone is talking about.
I guess someone mentioned they aren't prototypes after asking volks but have yet to get official word from volks
@c4tbus I did see that about the Pearly Glow skin! That'll be an interesting effect to see in person at Dolpa. @candy_coated thanks for sharing your pictures and impressions of them! How cool to be one of the first too see them in person! Lol, I get a Peakswoods vibe from them as well with the pout in their lips, nose shape, and eye expression but can see how you can pick up a bit of Delphine's aesthetic also.
I'm wondering if there is other way of getting those girls except than at LADP4. I really wanna enter for the lottery bt i have other travel plan at that period
So far Volks only mentioned North America exclusive in the panel (possibly Dollpa exclusive, I don't remember) More pics . Sorry don't know how to put spoiler... Spoiler: image 2 Spoiler: image 3
