Volks DearSD 43cm Discussion Part 2

Thank you so much for the info! Though I have to say that makes me a little annoyed because it confirms I do want a DearSD body and won't be as happy with a Baby Delf I better start saving for that next LA Dolpa in case they do bring some like last year

 

I also hope that more DearSDs make it to LA Dolpa! I'd love it if Megohime came to the U.S., at Dolpa or as an online lottery. Or for Volks to release more sunlight skin DearSDs!

I was lucky enough to bring home a new gal. She doesn't have a name yet, though my friend misheard the phrase "Megu-chan" and decided her name is MeguTron instead.

 

I am hoping to go to the US dolpa next year, and it would be awesome for more Dear SD's!

Got my dear sd kun in the mail today! Tried a ton of things on her and she seems to fit in Magic Attic Club and Dollmore Illua sized clothes really well!

There are some MSD items that DearSDs can snugly fit into! She's wearing the White and Bow Button cardigan and the White bloomers with pink satin ribbon.

This sailor set from Mint-on-Card also fits, not so well on top but the skirt is a nice length (a bit tight though). It's good for the I-stole-my-older-sister's-clothes look.

Here Mafuyu is wearing the Mini Dreaming Girl Dress in Tea Rose. Although it does not snap in the back, the addition of the cardigan and/or long hair can hide this. The length is perfect in my opinion but there's also a petticoat/underskirt part to this set that can make it a bit longer. Her socks are also MSD (the Pink line socks).

The dress set is an SD BTSSB collab that I snagged secondhand at a con. I didn't have an SD with me to wear it but luckily Kun looked pretty good in it

I don’t know if that pink BTSSB dress is likely to be released. That Kira and a boy F-67 DSD (and possibly one other?) were carried by models in a BTSSB fashion show a few years ago, right after the DSDs were released. Let me see if I can dig up the photos from that event... They were in one of the old DSD threads!

 

@snowgray Those in particular were one-offs for the fashion show, but there was supposedly voting for release of a new dress. I don't think we've gotten a new DSD set since then, so....

 

@snowgray, @ekala Ahhhhh, thank you! I remember that it was part of voting for a new outfit but I didn't know about the fashion show. That explains A LOT as to why it was so gorgeous so over the top and never available for purchase. It is pretty divine, right? I'm not sure a DearSD -as sturdy as they are- could even stand in it. Hahahaha~

 

@nakitaninja They absolutely are. The after report actually has the best images I've seen, and all three outfits are just fantastic.

A very belated thank you, @ekala! Those photos are great.

I hope there's another BTSSB and DSD collaboration soon! My girls don't have any of the BTSSB outfits and they're all so cute.

 

I also hope they do another BTSSB and DSD collaboration, but I would be happy for any DSD specific clothing from Volks right now! I snagged the pink dress set when Volks USA had that and the black dress for sale, but I wish they would release more clothing that can be bought separately from the dolls. Maybe since the doll releases have been limited they still don’t think they have enough of a market for clothes?

 

@Adele I couldn't agree with you more about the clothing sizes. From what I can tell in past Volks News they are really encouraging people to try and use SD size items for their DearSD? Some dresses and outfits work but it'd sure be nice if they released official outfits as well.

I was looking for Volks News 77 online- I think that's where they were showing the outfits that work for DearSD but it's not online any longer!

 

@nakitaninja I agree that Volks’ Reasoning for not releasing more DSD clothes is probably the similarity to the SD size. However, I’ve found that few SD outfits work perfectly for the DSDs. My DSD Nono has tried on most of the clothes of her very spoiled older sister SD Nono. Too long of sleeves and skirts rule many of them out, and even those that technically fit sometimes still don’t look quite right because the waist hits too low. Still, DSD Nono was able to steal two sets from her older sister so she isn’t without changes of clothes

 

I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I think the Dear SD line was meant to encourage sewing and crafting. At the 2015 LA Dolpa, Mrs. Shigeta talked about her inspiration for the Dear SD line coming from her mother, and wanting a doll that was more childlike and easy to handle, and by that extension, to sew for. I keep intending to enlarge some Yo patterns from the Volks “lesson” books, but haven’t done so yet!

Instead I try to get creative with my supply of SD-size clothes, and have had some success — short skirts, cropped pants and shorts, short or 3/4 sleeve tops. They can wear a lot of flat SD shoes, especially with socks or tights.

 

I think the DSD size is fun to sew for. She is easy to handle and the proportions allow a lot of detail. I'll try to show mine in her new outfit as soon as I get the buttonholes done.

 

New DSDs were announced for Dolpa 40! Ryo and Show are being added as boys. They come with a blue Dear My Garden outfit, "Starry Blue." It has a similar cascading skirt to the other Dear My Garden outfits, but shorter to show off blue bloomers. The neckline has a Peter Pan collar instead of a ruffle. Aya is joining for girls, and she and Coco are shown in a new "Lilac" version of the Dear My Garden outfit, which has striped stockings instead of floral. Kira is also shown, but in the previous pink Dear My Garden outfit. XD Coco's earnest face is so cute! She's the DearSD I most like out of the bunch, though Show is a close second.

I'm still hoping to find time to sew for my girls! I have a big work project that wraps up at the end of this week, and then fingers crossed I'll have time to make a fall outfit or two before fall is over!

 

@snowgrey Ah thank you for letting us know! I really love Ryo's updated look. (I'm a fan of Nono so it all makes sense. Hahahaha) Arrrrrrg. This dolpa is pretty intense for gorgeous dolls~

@CMBato It'll be the same body. I don't think there will be a US release unless they have a special offering. These dolls are usually lottery at the dolpa venue itself. We can hope, though!

 

Maybe they'll do another one at the next USA Dolpa. (I almost typed LA Dolpa, but we still don't know where it's going to be.)

Show & Ryo are gonna be so adorable! I wondered if they'd ever release DSD boys. Looking forward to more pics. Aya is a sculpt I quite like so it's very cool she's getting a re-release as a DSD.

Has anyone tried "a girl for all time" outfits on Dear SD? I know they're too small for most 18" doll clothes but it seems like the dolls in that series are a bit smaller....

@Ian-KunX You asked me in the other thread which Dear SD I would be trying for, but I was scared to answer in case I might jinx it: The good news is that I was hoping for a Coco, and now I have twin Coco DSDs!

Is there any way to identify the year of release of a specific DearSD? I'm currently about to buy a DearSD Coco but the buyer doesn't know the year of her birth

 

@Ayanami My Mimi from 2017 release only has "DEAR SD" written on her plate, and nothing else (I believe her release number is engraved inside the head).
However all DSD's come with a birth certificate with the welcoming date so you should ask the seller.
It's not really a release date, but you can guesstimate the release date from it.

Another question that came to my mind; is there any other way to purchase DearSD hand option parts other than in the aftermarket? And it seems like there's currently only one kind of hand design available?

 

@Ayanami, as far as I know, there are no option parts for the Dear SD, and they have just the one hand type.

Interestingly, the Dear SD hands are put together the same way as SD16 and SD17. It's a One-Touch System with the string and bead connecting to the wrist S-hook. I found that out when I removed my doll's hands to more easily redress her in a tight-sleeved outfit, and I also found out that the Dear SD are strung very tightly -- one of the hand connecting-strings broke! I opted to install a Dollshe S-hook to connect to the regular wrist S-hook, since I had some in my supplies, and they're long, narrow, and sturdy. But you could easily improvise some strong fine cord or string to replace the original string, too.

 

@beamlette That makes sense, I know this system from my SD16. But I'll be very careful when exchanging my DearSDs hands, it would be such a shame should the string snap

I'm very much looking forward to receiving her, hopefully I'll win the auction!

 

SwD DSD Chiyo is a dream! I wish it was possible to get her without going to Sato, but I'll admire from afar instead

@Ayanami It's likely old enough to be entirely archived & locked. Any relevant info that was posted there should be in the Wiki now.

 

I really don’t think the Part 1 thread is all that old and this may be an error. Dear SDs are a fairly recent addition to the Volks line. I have reported this in “Ask the Mods” and we’ll see what they say.

ETA: I heard back from the mods and it has indeed been archived already! Mystery solved.

I just checked my Megu from their initial offering and I see no evidence of seam sanding, however her seams are barely noticable even if you look very hard for them.

 

Does anyone have one of the DearSD Ayas? I've only seen the Volks photos of them

 

Volks just posted a bunch of one-offs for the Atami event on insta, and it includes the first DSD one-offs that I've seen! There's Kira, Una, and Megohime.

 

I'm hoping that Volks will release more tan DearSDs at the LA Dolpa! I'm not able to attend myself, but I'd love to see more of the tan girls around. Perhaps they will even release a new tan model? That would be fantastic!

I recently took photos of my Megu, Lily, in the lovely Antique Girly Style outfit. I think this outfit really suits the DearSD style! Lily reminds me of a big version of Bleuette in this outfit.

There were a good number of DearSDs at the LA Dolpa last weekend, and I got super lucky and won the girl I was after!



My goal for the last few years was to acquire a white DearSD body for my Lieselotte, but now that Megohime is here she's soooooo cute I decided to keep her in her entirety so I'm back to square one. At least they can share for now?
