Unoa hybrids? Other bodies that work with Unoa face plates (part 2)

Aug 16, 2011

    1. So for anyone who's interested, this is Asya, my Unoa Lusis/Dollits DKD hybrid. The Lusis FP is fairy skin (2016), and the DKD body is white skin (2018). Imo, the resin match is almost flawless (the FP is slightly more yellow hued, whereas the DKD body is more pink hued, but the difference is barely detectable to me). The body is super tall--at least compared to my minifée hybrid--and poses like a dream. With the Buff headback, no modification is required to fit the FP on the body's neck, but the neck is a bit long, and might be off-putting to some. I personally think it looks fine, but sanding is always an option. I seriously recommend this hybrid, and the Dollits company in general. Sorry for the crappy pics; I'll post better ones soon, especially once I figure out why I'm having so much trouble just uploading images lol

    2. @Read It And Weep Oh wow, what a beautiful hybrid! The lines of the Dollits body are so natural and lovely even in poses most bodies struggle to even hold ( *u* ) ! How tall is she exactly?

    3. @dollmien , thanks! She's about 43cm. She towers over my Unoa/Minifée hybrid.

    4. I have an Akubi on an Angel of Dream 43cm female body and the colour match is great on the resin (both are NS, the AoD is NS yellow). I also like the mature elegance of the body, it's proportional but also long-limbed and a bit animesque.

    5. I recently came into possession of a Unoa 2nd Mocha Dollybird Special, which comes with the Dollyhoney and Standard faceplates and two headbacks. I quickly realized that I'd like to hybridize the second head because switching between them on the Unoa 2nd body is an ordeal.

I've decided on my hybrid body, but I thought I'd share my research in case someone else ever has this unlikely dilemma, because I'd found where a few people had asked in the past, but no one really had any answers for the Unoa 2nd's.

Possible Size matches (without regard to resin match):
      • Bimong/Jigamaree Shahti (*only available in French resin)
      • Bimong/Jigamaree Maree
      • Resinsoul 40 or 42 cm bodies (the ones with 6cm neck circumferences)
      • Dollshe Fashion Maxi 26F
      • Fairyland Chicline
      • Dollmore Fashion 16" BJD
      • Dollzone body (with 6cm neck circumference)
      • Lillycat Cerisedolls - various 40 & 41 cm bodies
      • Unoa 1.0-1.5 bodies- may work but the neck is long. Chibi and Elder Sister bodies will not work without modification due to the way the neck flares out at the top.
This isn't an exhaustive list. My criteria were mainly based on shoulder width of 7.5cm or less and a neck circumference of of 6cm or less. Smaller framed bodies with measurements closer to standard 16" fashion doll measurements are probably best for scale.

Larger neck circumferences would likely require modding. (Some of the above that usually accommodate larger heads may also need neck length modification to really work...) The shoulder width is a bit flexible- the Dollshe body measures at 8.8cm per the website, but those girls have a smaller heard circumference than the 2nd. The 2nd's slightly larger head would probably look in scale on that body. The only thing I can say with certainty with regard to Dollshe is that the male Fashion 28M looks nicely in scale next to the Unoa 2nd.

As for resin matches, I've compared to the other tans I own, and none of my actual bjds are a good match. The best match I have is actually my tan Granado Vindoll, which is pretty spot on.

      The Unoa 2nd Mocha is:
      • Less pink and more (grayish? Olive toned?) than Unoa Paradise tan skin (2018 cast). They're just completely different in color, but neither seems to be necessarily lighter or darker than the other.
      • Lighter and less pink than Iplehouse light brown (Feb 2018 Iplehouse auction doll. ??? When cast)
      • Lighter than Dollshe pale tan (2015 cast)

If you aren't set on a DoA-on-topic bjd body for your Mocha hybrid, a comparable size, off topic fashion doll body (e.g. Tonner Deja Vu in bisque skin) would be your best bet as far as color match, scale, and cost. The trick would be attaching the head, but it's not an insurmountable task.

    6. WOW! Hello there, I haven't been on here in centuries, LOL
---To be on topic, LOL wonder if regular Unoa head fit tonner body-doubt? And have you ever tried obitsu ones?

    7. Unfortunately, I don't have any 1/4 Obitsus, but I'd definitely be interested in seeing those results!

I don't have any spare, headless, Tonner bodies to try taking apart and figuring out the attachment logistics, but if someone wanted to hybridize, I think scale-wise a standard Tonner Tyler body would work fine with a regular Unoa head, though the head would be a bit on the large side.

It would probably look best in Paradise skin, though and even then, the head might need a bit of blushing. Other Unoa skintones would probably need to be airbrushed to match the body. Here are a few examples of Unoa heads with Tonner bodies:

    8. I know there's a lot of female unoa/minifee hybrids, but would anyone happen to have either B-el or L-bi on a male minifee body? Preferably the motion line? I'm assuming it'll work as well as the female hybrids, but I can't seem to find any pics

    9. @sugarstitch If you look back 2 pages, i had posted a pic with an L-Bi head on a Minifee Moe body. The pic is crap but better than nothing.
For my taste, the head fits perfect on the body, but i would stay away from too poofy wigs( like the one in that pic), makes the head look too big for my taste. I had L-Bi on a Minifee A line body and it worked great too. Alternatively i would reconement a Magic time body(posted a pic too). He has the same aestethic and is more steady than the Minifee A line, without this crappy fairyland hip joint-cap-really annoying-whatever-system. I get a motion line boy in a few days, maybe i get a decent pic to post.
In the meantime an old pic of my L-Bi on Moe body next to an complete Unoa Boy when they freshly arrived. [IMG]

    10. @Froschschenkel Ah thank you~! He does look cute on the moe body, though recently I've been leaning more towards the new Doll Leaves boy body. Could you measure the shoulder width on the Unoa body? I can't seem to find the measurement for the boys anywhere

    11. Shoulder width is 9cm, the same with that doll leaves body.

    12. Thank you so much, that helps a lot~

    13. Does anyone have experience with matching paradise skin? I was thinking Iplehouse's Real Skin since I have a KID body that may fit? It's crazy that there's so few comparison pics for Unoa's :( any suggestions are welcome !

    14. I have tired my Unoa Lusis (fairy skin) on a doll Leaves Dream body (WS) and she fits perfectly. The color match is prefect also.

    15. @KaramiahS Oh is that the girl body, or the new boy one? I still haven't been able to find any owner pics of the new boy body

      • x 1
    16. @sugarstitch I have the new girl body. I think the boy Unoa heads (B-el or L-bi) should fit well on the new boy body as they have the same neck circumference as the original Unoa bodies.

In the Doll leaves threads here on DOA there are a lot of people who have ordered the new boy body, maybe some of them have received it, I would check there to see if they have any owner photos yet

    17. @KaramiahS It's still the body I'm leaning towards for my B-el at this point, so good to know the neck should work~ I've been keeping an eye on the thread, but no one seems to have theirs yet :sweat

      • x 1
    18. @sugarstitch I have been watching the thread too. I am considering getting a L-bi (on the doll leaves new boy body) as my first boy.

    19. Still not sure about my L-bi aha, but I got a DZ B45-017 body order in~ I ordered it for my Lilin, though I'm not 100% sure I'm sold on it :huh?: I think the neck is a bit too long/thick, but I'm kinda hoping once she's got her elf ears and wig it won't look so odd. If not I'll just have to try sanding I guess? Resin match isn't great, but not as bad in person as the photos. Anyway, here's the body with both Lilin and Lusis, in case anyone is interested~

(also the hands aren't the ones that came with the body, I swapped them out for the extras I ordered ^^' the hands with this body are lovely, but DZ sculpts them as one piece now and they don't pose as well unfortunately)

    20. I got the Doll Leaves bodies in the end~ Resin match isn't great, but the proportions are what I was hoping for so I'll see what I can do with them~

    21. Is there a good place to get headbacks? I see individual faceplates up for sale a lot, but not the rest of the head.

    22. I got mine from Buffdolls on Etsy~

      • x 3
    23. I have a resinsoul msd mei body hybrid ns sist head with buff headback that looks great! i was surprised what a perfect match it turned out to be.

    24. Hello, everybody. Recently i've got Lusis head, and my search for body was also successful. My choice was to get body with the same aesthetic that original body have rather than pose variety. So for me it was Mydolling Heeah body that work well. The head and the body 2013 both, the head more yellow and body has peach undertone, so i need to blush the faceplate.
Due to the forum problem with photo here is link unoahybrid=Unoa Lusis+Mydolling Heeah body

    25. Hello
I will be getting a very old yellow unoa faceplate, by reading the thread I have ideas for bodies that will work as a hybrid but I'm unsure of the resin colour match?

As its a very old and yellow faceplate I'm assuming it is the old Normal skin and not the new fresh skin resin....

Any help will be greatly appreciated! :?

    26. Regarding headbacks, there was a french person who made them too...something with A...Amathea? I hope I wrote the name correct. I don't know if she still makes them. They were size wise closer to the original headbacks than the Buff ones. I personally find the Buff fit more the elder brothers. Ah, these headbacks give me headache.
So, because we are in a hybrid Tread, here are B-el on a Akagi Body and L-bi on a Moe body. My Pics are like always blurry but if someone is looking for a taller boy body, Akagi works great. The colour match is okay, a bit more peachy than the head but blushing will do the trick.
Okay, the pic won't show:vein then here take this, click to enlarge.

    27. Yes amaeta made headbacks for Unoa. But I think she didn't make them anymore.

    28. It's a shame, regarding how well loved Unoas (and their hybrids)are, the lack of headbacks is disturbing.

So, I tried something. I hybrided a elder sister with an Fairyland Motion or magic line body (whatever). Just stole the buff headback from my elder brother hybrid, heated up the faceplate in hot water and put it on the Headback. Works grat and now Belia has a body.
Fairyland white skin and Unoa fairy skin are not the greatest match and the head sits too high, so you have to sand it down. (I already did that in the photo)
      et voilà
      ...
Why don't these damn photos show up? Here preview, click to enlarge.

    29. sorry if this is necroposting- there are sometimes headbacks for sale on the official Alchemic Labo webshop. you would need to use a proxy and translate the pages but it was pretty straightforward :))

I recently picked up some elder brother faceplates + a headback in tan and I'm having trouble finding a body. I haven't seen many resins that seem to match unoa paradise/tan (besides a Narae color from a few pages back on this thread) so I'm considering going through a company with a resin matching service, but if anyone knows of any companies that have msd male bodies in a matching resin color I would love to know!

Also- does anyone have any experience modding the unoa elder/chibi neck holes to accommodate non-unoa necks? I was thinking of removing the interior joint part and then using epoxy to reshape the hole again, but I feel like there is probably a better way or things that I am not considering.

    30. Yes! I actually just did an order through Tenso for a couple face plates and a head back; it was so fast and efficient. They sent a free face plate for using Tenso as well.

I’m actually putting my tan Unoa Lusis head on a tan Minifee body. The match isn’t perfect at first glance but after a faceup I was shocked at how great it was. I wish I’d taken a good pic because I wiped the faceup to redo it again! I actually tried blushing to match the head at first and it was better with nothing but the faceup.

edit: I should add that I’m using a key ring in place of an S hook since I didn’t have an extra on hand and had to remove the neck connector from the body. It’s worked surprisingly well.

    31. Oh I was hoping they'd have fresh or fairy skin headbacks as well, but it's only tan. I wouldn't mind a tan Sist girl, but the tan Sist faceplate is sold as well.

      • x 1
    32. That is nice to know! There are definitely more resin comparisons for Fairyland Tan than Unoa haha- is FL darker or lighter without a faceup?

Summerbird has a nice tutorial for color matching without an airbrush:
I was going to try out her method to cover the tan headback I got for my fresh Lusis plates. I don't think I'm skilled enough to make something quite as smooth and even as her end result, but for a headback that will mostly be covered with a wig I think it'll be fine.

      • x 1
    33. FL is a bit darker and more orange. I think it would be more of a challenge if it were the other way around, at least for me. :)

      • x 1
    34. Does anyone have any photos of a tan minifee/unoa hybrid? It sounds super cute!

    35. I just got a paradise skin unoa lusis head and I was wondering if the ¼ myoudoll bodies work. I don’t know whether to choose coffee skin or the tan skin. If anyone has any insight let me know.:daisy

    36. there is a comparison between myou tan + coffee and fairyland tan here if that's helpful: /threads/var...red-myou-iplehouse-fairyland-luts-dfa.836297/
      also here is another: /threads/myoudoll-coffee-vs-fairyland-tan-and-others.804992/

since fairyland tan is a close match to unoa paradise (fl is a smidge darker and redder, but works well if the unoa resin is blushed/painted) it can kind of be used as a reference for unoa paradise if you take the differences into account.

that sounds like a really cute hybrid though- I would love to see pictures if you decide to go through with it! :aheartbea

    37. omg thank you this was so helpful! i hope to get all faced up and bodied up soon! :aheartbea

    38. Ooh yeah looks like an FL head would work with a Myou Body because you could blush it more redbrown to match the myou body...

    39. it's a unoa lusis paradise skin head not FL !

    40. Sorry, whoops- no idea how this post got here or if I was making it in another thread... that'll teach me to forum trawl while I am brainfogged.

    41. hi so...buff isnt making unoa headbacks anymore...does anyone know where or how to get one now a days? there doesnt seem to be any on the official site either.

    42. I got a b-grade tan head back directly from Alchemic Labo's website! It was super easy and bc I went through the recommended agent they gave me a free faceplate as a gift!

    43. yeah i looked on the aclhemic labo website, currently it seems they have a few full dolls and faceplates up but no headbacks.

    44. Has anyone ever done a hybrid with Unoa head + the guard love 1/4 body? Specifically looking at the “chubby” body. It says neck circumference 6.9cm so I assume that would work with a buff head back, no?

      • x 1
    45. anyone know a good match for paradise skin? i know FL can be blushed to match....

    46. I love this thread! I have always wanted an unoa lusis, but have had trouble finding her as a full doll. Faceplates seem to float around everywhere though, so this is awesome! :D

    47. i think they still have tan b grade faces on their site with headback if you are interested

    48. [IMG]

Just if anyone was interested. I took my 40cm Momoni Toffee body and put the Unoa Lusis tan head on it. It works pretty decently. The color match isn't perfect, but if anyone want to know or wants to see more pics let me know!

    49. Was wondering if what skin tone for Unoa would best fit fairyland body, I’ve always liked fairylands bodies but the Unoa faceplates just have a certain charm.. trying to get back into the hobby

    50. I've done this hybrid with a (possibly slightly yellowed?) "normal skin" Unoa back in 2012 or so. Back then what I had to do was dye a little pink into the unoa faceplate. You could (or an artist could) easily blush pinks into a faceup to make this match, I think.
This is the Before picture from that project.

      • x 1
    51. i think it might work with any of the bodies, cause the neck circumference is the same for all three. and the circumference is the same as a minifee? so im just wondering what colors work best.

    52. I am wondering if anyone has put the elder brother heads on another body? Their default ones aren’t my style :sweat info about size and color is much appreciated.

    53. I've seen someone put one on the IoS class50 and you'd think it'd work well but it looked quite awkward and the neck wouldn't fit properly.

I've considered the Miracledoll 47cm Baiye body, but I have not ordered it to try yet.

    54. i had fresh skin elder faceplates with buff headbacks on souldoll nl soulkid boy bodies a while back, it took some blushing on the faceplates for them to match perfectly, but the proportions were really nice.
i currently have a fairy skin default xyle faceplate on the 1.5 unoa boy body. the faceplate needed to be modded to work on the 1.5 headback, but i really love how they look.

    55. [IMG]

This is unoa sist (yellowed? fresh skin) and Unoa heels (same) on an old yellowed Dollzone body with the unoa headback. Fits perfectly, the resin match is nearly 1:1 and she stands super solid.

Don't I just love when I accidentally ruin my plans, I was planning to dye the sleeping sist faceplate to match a tan body that I'm waiting for but now I kind of want to keep this :sweat

Edit: I cracked and gave her a faceup. Hello new doll :chibi

    56. Question to anyone with paradise skin headbacks - does the resin feel slightly slippery to you as well? I've been trying to suede the neck with hot glue but it just keeps peeling off the headback very easily, wondering if anyone has found a stickier solution?
