excellent! they should have had us suggest dolls we'd want in the FCE since it's a rare occurrence. they could then have
made their decisions based on their customers ideas.

I would think Soom has a checklist of dolls that have been requested that they refer to when deciding what to offer.

 

I'm glad that they added Cinderella fairy parts to the event! Now I only wish they would the blue pale skin to the event .

 

Ah, that new thread smell. I'm totally not buying for this FCE, but it's so interesting to see who they do add.

I would love to get a breccia with a Cinderella body in cream white, but sadly the combo is only tawny or grey and I don't want my dark fairy to be tan too bad the colors aren't really "free choice" but if the price is right I might have to get her in grey.
Edit; May I request spam of Cinderella or Breccia?

 

If the rules are the same as previous FCE, you should be able to order Breccia with a Cinderella body in cream white. You can not order a Cinderella head with a Cinderella body in cream white or normal as those combinations were available before.

 

Really? I thought I couldn't get any of the colors offered before, head or body? I'm such a newb!

@fishcake thanks! I was hoping she could be my dark fairy and I could blush her wings black. I'm really excited for the event to start.

 

Dark fairies are the best--they are so fun to dress and accessorize too

Unfortunately I, myself, have no interest to order something in this FCE, but I would be happy to see more Cinderellas on different bodies. I think this sculpt is underrated, she is so beautiful

I like the dark fairy idea too, which is why Soom adding the wings to Sweet Witch makes my Breccia/SW combo interesting.
now it all depends on my finances and whether my direct deposits come through on 4th of July weekend before the sale ends.
it's all up to the Dollie Universe now.

@Quenthel she is so regal. She looks cream white? Is the cream white more paper white than cream?

@karleecakes I absolutely love her ears and her face-up. Is it a Soom face-up?

@petiteballerine I was also considering the sweet witch combo, maybe with a Cinderella or Amber head? I love those ears and breccia doesn't have them but I love her face. I wish we could choose 2 heads then I'd be in the dog house too!

Thanks! =) She is very white, it does not look creamy at all, more with a blueish hint in it. I do not have other white skin Soom dolls, but she is somewhere near Limhwa (EOSdoll) white, which is paper-white, and Iplehouse rose-white looks like normal skin near her.

 

@Serdtse No that face-up is by the wonderfully talented Angeltoast. She really is stunning.

 

@Arekushia - she's really lovely. I've sort of ignored the girls for the past couple of years, so they all
seem new to me. (and of course I discover an Elf boy on sale that I want from another company. gah!)

@Arekushia I like that combo so much!
@rootedinvanity it's a tough match--I think resinsoul would color match for you, Impldoll as well but the aesthetic at Impl is more like Iplehouse than soom. You might have an easier time looking for an older tawny body on the MP.

 

@rootedinvanity Adalwolf actually has a grey Onyx head on Impldoll 70cm female body We sent a pair of ankle joint balls for them for color matching and the body they sent was a perfect color match. The neck is a bit too thick though and would need some modding, I could imagine that the shorter (62cm?) body would work better. Aesthetically the bodies are similar to Iplehouse's and look really nice. Not sure how the male bodies would work, but at least it's possible to create a hybrid on the female body!

 

Anyone here participated in Soom Free Choice before? Ideally, I would like to purchase Soom Breccia's head with Soom Sweet Witch body in NS but I was wondering what the price range is going to be? Like maybe $750? Thanks in advance.

 

I asked about the price and they said the price will be very close to the original doll prices which would be $600-$800.

On another note, are the Heliot and Amber fantasy heads the same?

 

@Anshishoku Go to the first page of this thread--that is a Heliot, and you can see he is a lot different from Amber, especially the eyes. Google Image Search is your friend too--type in Soom Amber and Soom Heliot and see all the photos

(Amber was done also with human ears, and Heliot without a horn)

Hi all~ I have a Chalco/Benmore from the last FCE, and I have a question about his elbows (so, the elbows of the SG male body type for Benmore, that time period). The lower joint there (elbow to lower arm) has pretty typical construction, with a slot for the elastic to slide through when you bend his arm up. The upper joint has a groove like Soom started to make the same type of slot, but instead the elastic goes straight up through the elbow piece, effectively limiting the range of movement to 90 degrees. My question is, has anyone modified this type of elbow joint to work more like other companies' double-jointed limbs? Any insights out there about why this joint was designed with the essentially decorative groove at the top?




Khufu has no excuses for why he can only bend his arm that far.

 

I do wonder what face molds they will have, but I do like those wings from Cinderella.

 

@Cennie it is not an unfinished double joint! Please for the love of god spare those bodies from being modded like I see happening all over the place!
You can lock the notch from the lower arm into that slot and get an perfect looking elbow like not in any other body from any other company. The body is all about the looks, not so much about comfy posing.

That's so helpful ^^ I figured there had to be some logical reason, but I would not have figured that out on my own (don't worry, though, I am not about to start making modding a doll like this). You're totally right about the looks over posing thing, but I had a hard time believing that was the limit on arm movement. It's good to know I just wasn't trying hard enough

Also, I love your doll's pastel color scheme and hand painting, that's really lovely :3

 

I am sorry if I sounded rude or something but I just saw soooo many talks over this mod and the actual mod itself because people don't even bother to ask about it (and Soom doesn't gave away any helpful information in a booklet or video etc either!) ...
I love how they managed to design a body where the string is showing like nearly nowhere ~
I saw even body reviews on Youtube that are so 'detailed' and spread false facts over this body regarding the movement range of the elbow.
By the way I love your Khufu ~ I am sharing this home with the exact same combination. NS Benmore body and Chalco's head o(>ω<)o

 

Oh, not at all! Knowing now how it's SUPPOSED to work, I totally understand being horrified to see people potentially ruin a doll over something completely unnecessary. I'm glad I asked! It's surprising Soom doesn't really tell how their elbows work, but I suppose they think it's obvious since they designed it.

Thank you ^^ It seems like a pretty natural combination. I'm working on a more "civilized" look for him, but it's a bit of a challenge to work around his hooves (speaking of a lack of posing! but I'm very content with that, since he stand SO well).

 

Right? If I remember correctly the booklet they gave away with these bodies was for the older version of it too which is supposed to be strung totally different for instance.
They have reallly beautiful dolls but the whole thing around those dolls could use some intense polishing.
Like they don't even give you the chance to have a look at the blank sculpts (with few exceptions) like they need to hide their
'terrible sculpting' <- sarcasm.
The only experience around their arms I can share is that stringing them a bit more lose opposed to what Soom does really helps with that notch-lock-thingie to feel safer when used.

I thought that combination is really nice because it almost felt like a new body version of chalco. His hooves and hands are quite similar and lovely ~ ( ◡‿◡ ♡)
And that heavy hooves are so nice for standing xD
I always made jokes about how his super special fantasy tighs are a perfect weapon for defending oneself against burglars !
They are just so insane big and heavy in weight.

And whenever there is any question left I am glad to answer ~ (even tough I don't know everything xD)

 

Poking my head in with my poor Vesuvia whom I feel I've neglected for too long. Lovely lady got herself a new face up this past weekend so I thought I'd show her.

 

@LiselT Ow ~ Her faceup is really nice ! I like how the shape of eyebrows and eyeliner complents each other ~

Oh man, this makes me wish I had money! My Grail has always been a Sweet Witch, but I don't know if she'll ever have her sculpt released again. I'm saving up for one that I saw, little by little, until I can afford her--if not, then I'll look out for a Vesuvia.

I do love their sculpts--they're so regal, and elegant! Snow White's fantasy parts are a dream.

 

Annnnd my intense desire for a green human Vesuvia has been rekindled (who am I kidding? It never went away)
She's gorgeous!

 

@NekoMida Hey dear ^^ Uhm ... well actually they are releasing her (Sweet Witch) on a Free Choice Event ... tomorrow !

 

@petiteballerine : I'm surprised that SOOM has not rereleased her a little bit more, honestly. She really does seem to be a fan favorite but she's only had what.. 3? The original release (Ugh.. I would so love to have her in purple), the harem dancer one in NS and then the FCE? Some of the other sculpts have had quite a few more, like Beryl (not that I mind, Beryl is my favorite and I have 3 xD;; ).

Thank you for the compliments on her face-up. I tried to keep it similar to her first one, fixing a few things along the way. But hrrrngh... eyebrows -laments- I at least got the shape nice T,T; And I think putting the eyelashes in might be as frustrating as putting on fake human ones. Pretty sure I was making the same velociraptor sounds of frustration, haha.

@NekoMida : You're in luck then. ^^ This free choice event starting tomorrow actually includes the Sweet Witch, or are you definitely wanting one of the original skin tones she came in?

@Girrl : Oh man, I'd love to see what sort of looks people would come up with if she were in green. Poison Ivy, dryads and nymphs all come to mind. I love that she can go from mysterious and soft to a sort of confident b**** so well that she could suit any of them.

I'm glad people seem to like my girl. I'll have to try and be better about taking some photos of her, preferably in a better setting (if I can find one x.x; )

 

@LiselT I like the cat butts. I am so glad you take pix of your Moonlight Beryl, of all the releases I think that one is my favorite, and I love how you have styled her!

 

I found more Cinderella spam, though here she is with Angell-Studio Hilda legs, not her fairy ones.

 

@fishcake : I love all three of them. I can't help but be drawn to her expressive pout that can come off as sullen, sweetly melancholy or outright b*tchy, haha.

The original CW was my first one after I realized that (while I do love them) my two Iplehouse ladies were not quite the aesthetic I thought I wanted. Turns out SOOM just... kind of epitomizes it. It reminds me of my own art of my characters and I haven't gotten dolls from any other company since. ^^;; She was just a (rather angry) floating head for quite some time until I managed to find a body for her, hoping it would be yellowed enough to match her. Sadly not, lol... I had to have her airbrushed to match. She's definitely the most imposing of my entire BJD crew. I'll have to take more photos of her soon. I could have sworn I had some uploaded but I can't find any for the life of me.

The second was my Dark Moon Beryl. I fell in love instantly, which I found strange because I just did not like her sculpt in bronze. oO; But she certainly was quick to tell me what she wanted, so she fell fairly quickly and e. x,Xasily into her style. One of these days I really need to grab her hands and feet to redo her mehndi. Kind of dreading trying to do the itsy bitsy details, lol. It'll be worth it though.

And my last (currently...haha, I make no promises if a purple one is ever released) is the SO Never Ending Dream one in gray. She was kind of my grail, lol. I was squealing like a kid being told they can pick whatever toy they want in the store when she was finally released, especially since I had asked about 3 times over the years if they planned on a gray one and was told there were no plans each time. I knew I wanted her to stay in a color palette of black, white, red and maybe pinks. Turns out I kind of fell in love with her in a monochromatic color scheme. I can't wait to get her face-up done. Maybe I'll do that as a gift to myself when I finish school.

I have several other SOOMs floating around, I am just a bad girl and don't take photos. >.>;;; I need to be better about that, I just need to not be working and going to school at the same time, lol. And sorry for the novel post x,X

@LiselT I feel like Beryl is kind of special and unique--she is the favorite of my Sooms, though Snow White is sneaking in there too. A purple one would be fantastic It's so nice to see them as a group, too. I keep hoping they might do more novelty colors in general--more of the greens and lavenders and coffee and mint/ice blue. I'd be tempted by them all.

@Arekushia Did the Hilda legs fit pretty well? I loved the idea but I thought they probably wouldn't slot together well. She's such a cutie though in that dress!

 

Haha, nope not at all! Square peg, round hole so to speak. But she could still stand in the legs + the Hilda shoes which was nice She functions well enough as long as you don't look at her knees

 

I know how that works She looks cute for photos, though!

 

@fishcake : I have to agree on Beryl. I do feel that a handful of their early sculpts just had this something to them... something I am not often seeing in the newer sculpts. They just aren't making me feel much most of the time (though I will admit, I kind of fell in love with the fantasy Brett and Puss in Boots, lol. Snow White needs more love, I adore when @lunarbackbone sends me photos of hers (hint hint, you should post some of her here! xD).

Oh, but a purple Beryl... -daydreams- My hubby is rolling his eyes at me, asking how many Beryls do I really need? Haha.... I have no answer to that.

 

So... This time we are allowed to recreate? I am heavily confused by that dark brown only epidia option

 

Oh I like that we have the option to add Cinderella's parts to all the bodies and that Ignim comes with both heads

 

I just asked them for adding those Breccia parts.
We will order a Sweet Witch body andd Breccia head in NS but ... HORNS.
They are so perfect and not included o(TヘTo)

I gave my very best and included as many Kaomojis as I could
(because Soom loves them and they help understanding I think xD)
Please cross your fingers for it may work out !

 

@Prince Whitemare I hope that they're going to add the Breccia horns Sweet Witch/Breccia hybrid sounds great!

Although I have to admit that I'm tempted by a few parts (like Cinderella's wings and those pretty transparent heels *o*), I think I won't be ordering this time since I don't really have a character for another Super Gem girl ^^; That being said, I can't wait to see some pictures of the combinations you guys order!

 

I'm so pleased by the price for Sweet Witch! I was worried with all of her odds and ends that she'd end up being much closer to her original sale price, but she's actually a little under where I was estimating she'd be!
