Honestly? Garion is great, but Soom does love to rerelease sculpts, and eventually there will be one rereleased in a look / resin that makes you want to act in the moment instead of considering purchasing

Something about the Idealians always looks a hundred times better in their non promo shots. I wish Idealian would take pictures with their regular cellphone to show how the sculpt really looks like, I always liked those better than promo shots

Vincent has a very pleasant face, a strong V shaped chin. He actually looks like an Idealian, when the promo shoots made him look like a Gem head on the ID body, still pretty, but no where near as beautiful as the Vincent @Khlovera posted!

My hope is that one day we get an Idealian version of Tremo, as in, a new sculpt with a similar nose, chin and lip shape - but with a more Idealian eye size and proportions to the face. I love Tremo's lips and chin!

I also saw you were interested in Saiph, Ive requested Mecha Saiph on the Idealian body, and they said they would consider it but I reallllllllly dont think its a reality because the ID women dolls dont sell as well as the ID men it seems. I would request it on their Q&A if you, or anyone else wants Saiph back as an Idealian woman, but only if you are realistically buying her so they take our requests seriously lol.

Im catching up on The Walking Dead, and I cant get over how much Liam looks like Carl. I now wish I got him in normal instead of tawny, but theres always lighting and photoshop to give him that pale Carl look XD Im going to attempt to cosplay him just so its out of my system lol

 

Wow, what a gorgeous Vincent. That’s the sad thing about the Idealian limited releases— once you get a feeling for the sculpts potential, it’s already sold out and you can only hope for a rerelease.

He will be rereleased but no one knows when. The first time of his release was in 2011, and the next rerelease was in 2019.. so 8 years wait in between....! Realistically, I think 2-3 years until he is rereleased again, but that is my opinion, not fact.

I think if you and anyone else likes him to be rereleased, you should let Idealian team know on the Q&A, the more demand, the more likely he would get made. If you are able to go to their events, they usually have exclusive preorder for dolls that wont be on sale on the website, he might be one of them.

The best news would be if they did a full choice event, but seeing how its been years since that happened, and this year they used a quiz to determine which one to release, I wouldnt wait for that to happen. (Soom Gem)

The promo pictures are nicer, but user pictures really show how beautiful a sculpt is! I feel that way about Hyun and Im sure many others do because not a lot of people got him, and the ones that didnt really wanted to get him after he was released from what I read. I wish Soom and other companies, would take cell phone pictures to show how the sculpt would look like without the lens "distortion" or professional settings. It may not be as beautiful as the promo shots, but they show what you are going to get better.

Once you get marketplace access, you could place an advert to buy one secondhand, I think around this time of year, you will find many grails being sold secondhand because people want to buy dolls from the Christmas events.

River has captured my heart and I really hope I can access marketplace a and post a search ad. I can't find it in my country( no one seems to have ordered it from us.

@Stephan_Swallow Have you submitted an application for the marketplace? The application processing is backed up but it looks like you meet the criteria. Even if you post a Want-to-buy you should check for listing regularly Not all sellers check the WTB listing before they list a doll for sale.

I've fallen incredibly bad in love with ID75s as of recently ♡ Soom's River made it to the very top of my wishlist in no time xD He's pretty much my grail doll at this moment. I hope there will be another chance to get hold of him one day! I'll definitely try requesting him from Soom at every opportunity x'D

@Sasha of the Crows Welcome! I believe all the existing IDs will be re-released sooner or later in another form. Just need to be patient and have faith in Soom. I guess people tend to be suspicious when new sculpts come out as the official photos and default faceup really can't tell much. I wish Soom can provide photos of blank head.

 

Next release will be York (or R.York according to the teaser, looks more like R.York to me)

I am really sad to have missed on the One for All outfit It sold really quick and I wasnt expecting a release on the same "day" as the teaser being out on the twitter account, I figured the teaser would have to be posted as a banner on the website and then the release a few days later. Ill never make assumptions again DX

Since it hasnt been released yet, ill wait on posting my wtb until people start receiving theirs. Im hoping Ill be able to get one when the time comes, I keep telling myself that I should have visited the website earlier, with so many "should have" type scenarios in my head lol!

If anyone likes River, you should definitely wait for him to be rereleased, because a substitute wont be as good as the real thing. I got so many "substitutes" and some worked, but others, I had to get the original doll sculpt instead because the lookalike didnt have the same click, but was a more wallet friendly price compared to the secondhand market and easier to get lol.

I always thought owner pictures of Dikadoll's Floyer looked similar to River, very different but has the same vibe to him I think.

I don't, actually. Offering their dolls as kits with a discount might even help with that problem - people might stay away from the 'R' situation if they know that Soom's offering their fairly expensive dolls around Christmas for a cheaper price :S

 

I think the extremely limited outfits may be hurting them. It is rather depressinf to hear about a rumor of the next doll and in hours the outfit you like is sold out before you even knew when it would be released.

 

No sale , no holiday kit , outfit sells out in less than 20 min, NO offer of a 72 body!

Well for those who might be interested. An outfit I ordered from M de H came in the other, and a note in English mentioned that starting next year they'd be offering clothes in ID75 size (Also Switch 70cm size).

 

Indeed it's quite weird this time. I saw the teaser in the afternoon, thought it would be officially on sale in a few days, went to sleep, woke up. WTH? The outfits were already sold out??? It's really getting worse now...

I wish York could also be available in cw and requested for that, but got a NO from Soom...Actually I got NO to all the sculpts on my wishlist....And now it doesn't seem to have a Christmas event... So sad, just have no luck with Soom this year.

 

Really sad how Sooms been throwing out all their traditions. No Free Choice Events, no christmas kits, no (consistent) monthly doll themes, very poorly made pictures (in comparison to other, smaller companies), using the same bodies for YEARS (TeenieGem/Littlegem) even if they got some major engineering flaws and customer wishes are completely ignored in favor of re(rere...)-releasing popular sculpts (the top 10 rereleased dolls come to a count of 55, while soom released overall 443 dolls...).
've read the old archived threads (from 2012 I think) for Soom a year or so ago, and gosh, people were -excited- with every new release! And now? Over 78% of new dolls are rereleases. Just makes me sad to see all that potential go to waste.
Wondering if it helps to send them a longer message (maybe even in korean?) to tell them that they're really alienating their customers with their business practice. I

 

Are people really having problems with rereleases?
I for one, really love them. It gives me an opportunity to get a doll I missed. I havent been in the hobby for long, so there are many beautiful dolls I want, but dont have. The rereleases usually these days come with a new version of the head, a new skintone or a great new look, Im not sure what the problem is. They have been alternating between new release, and rerelease each month.

Ive put in my requests for certain dolls and they have been released, I think Soom does actually listen to people and rerelease what they are realistically able to sell; I take screenshots of people who have requested certain sculpts I want released along with the date showing and then combine it in one photo to show there is interest; that helped me. Iplehouse, I feel bad for saying this, released a few things people requested and I was told the fullsets they were able to sell were less than 10. This was a fullset a lot of people requested by the way (a bigger version of an FID fullset if you are curious). Im sure this will come off badly, but the people I screenshot were those I feel would actually buy because I feel some like to request but dont want to pay for their requests.... I mean theres someone who frequently wished a certain sculpt was to be rereleased in a certain color, posted about it every other week on IG with every new release and when it was released, they decided to pass on it because now they like another sculpt instead. I get that tastes change, but it was less than a week that they commented for X doll to be rereleased on Gem's IG account. If some requests arent taken seriously, its because of that. The doll, based on IG pictures, I dont think sold as well.

The only one I got a firm no to was Irene, and I understand why. When she was released, Ive seen comments saying that they should only release male dolls, or that the Idealian woman body is really bad etc. People were actually annoyed that a female idealian was released! I dont think there is a possibility of them releasing one next year either based on the reply I got. Soom is a company, and ultimately, they have to care about profit.

@Zhenwu a rerelease of grey Hyperon sounds exciting to me! I can never get enough of that sculpt, and seeing Khlovera's grey doll makes me really want a grey Idealian - even better if its Hyperon! I wonder if its the classic version, or the scar version? I know you have been wanting one for some time now - hopefully he's released with Lucifer's horns to make it sweeter now Im glad I got that extra heel foot in grey from the older release.. hopefully the batch colors wont be too bad.

What I wish they would do is either go the IMDA route by releasing a teaser with a date + time of release; or the Gem route by having a release calendar on the website. I dont personally have any other issues. I also understand Gem, IMDA, and Idealian are different branches run by different managements, thats why you cant combine items into one cart like before.

Based on the quality of clothes Ive gotten from them recently, I would say they are more than worth the price, and I dont want them decreasing the quality and craftsmanship if it means they are able to churn out more clothes personally. I just want a fair chance at them, maybe hold a lottery since they seem to sell out quickly? or tie half of it to a full doll release, since Ive personally passed on a doll because I felt I wanted him complete as is on the promotional pictures and the outfit sold out by the time I saw him.

@meanae I dont think its fair to rate the excitement based on threads on 2012
I did read all the older threads, and engagement was a lot more than it is now, but I dont think its because the releases have been subpar, its because people now have a lot more choice, and most have other venues where they talk about their excitement for certain dolls and releases. I know a few other owners, me included, that dont like saying we got a new doll or purchased a doll because some can carry resentment or take it as gloating, so we talk within our friend groups. I mean, theres a member here who is always so nice and kind, very helpful that had a "confession" written about her, and talking about how rich she must be to be able to afford so many dolls in so little time - it doesnt sound like much, but thinking about that confession, someone must have went through their past messages to pick up on that. It doesnt help that some actually have weird opinions on those who are able to afford them; one friend has to even say she got it on layaway because of some passive aggressive comments shes gotten when she shared a new doll purchase. It seems like a non issue, but once you are on the receiving end, it ends up feeling awkward to share any kind of purchase because another hobbyist might resent you for it.

I do still use DOA, but in reality, most of my talk with others here doesnt even happen on DOA, we all talk on Instagram direct messages so it looks like people have lost excitement, but i think its just an issue of people finding other venues. Soom was also the most popular doll based on the frequency of replies. These days its Minifee; its just people have changed their doll aesthetic. Soom is incredibly popular in Asia; what we are reading and seeing here is the "Western" side, the Asian side is a lot more active, and they are the ones; based on IG pictures at least, who make up the bigger portion of sales; so I would say they would cater to their requests more so than "us". If it continues to sell, I dont see them updating bodies personally, I think they would only update if they arent getting as much sales. Some Taobao releases sell out within seconds... so Im not surprised that amazing set (which still stings to see "sold out") finished within 20 minutes (!!!! that must be a new record for Idealian?! Thats insane)

 

I just have to say I totally agree with @GreenTeaSlug, you said it all.

I joined the hobby in 2016 and fell hard for Idealians, if it wasn't for the rereleases, I wouldn't have gotten where I am now with my Idealians collections. Also, I personally feel Soom is really listening to customers request. I have quite a number of dolls that I wanted got re-released in less than 6 months after writing to them.

My requests in the past that were fulfilled were Zak, Phonolus as Idealian (I believe he was not originally Idealian), Sullivan, Hyperon Lucifer on ID75 body (I never thought they would do Lucifer again, but they did), Aslan as Idealian (he was a SG boy originally), and the most current one coming true is R.York in bronze. As you can see...quite many ^^ these are just the Idealians that I personally requested, I have also requested the supergem females and they did too...So that said, I can't agree if anyone says they don't listen, not in my experience with them at least.

And like @GreenTeaSlug stated beautifully, they are a company, they have to consider profits behind the requests. They wouldn't just fulfill anyone's request randomly. I really hope people are more serious to buying after specifically requesting a certain doll, this would definitely make them listen more. Because sometimes people like to hit and run, especially with so many choices these days!

 

Don't get me wrong - its not that I hate their business practice as it currently is, its just that its overall lacking? I've only got my two bigger Soom dolls because of rereleases/Post MD Events - what I don't like is that Soom doesn't even try to adapt.

Yes, they do rereleases based on demand (sometimes). Yes, they do want to make a profit, of course - I'm not saying they should abandon all the rereleases or listen to every single demand for a certain sculpt and just make crazy different dolls alltogether. But- with other companies (who also want to make a profit) you can actually see a will to try new things, like new bodies* or general themes when releasing dolls (or better pictures. Sorry, but even Doll Leaves shoots promo pictures with actual backgrounds beside artistically draped fabrics). Soom is doing the same business for over 10 years now.

*Its not as if people have a choice with bodies with Soom :S I'd have bought at least 2 Idealians from the last releases if it weren't for the body. Just way too tall... but Soom pretty much refuses to sell the old ID72 body. If they'd offer an updated version of the ID72 (double jointed knees please?) -together- with the ID75, just as an alternative, they'd surely generate more sales too.

You're right that the community platforms have shifted, and yes, there's far, far, faaaar more companies available today than 5 years ago, but should exactly that be also a reason for a company to broaden their own spectrum of dolls to keep people at their side? Like with Iplehouse, when they noticed that there's a HUGE demand for mature minis. Soom actually started with the mature minis back in 2005. But where are they now?
(I've noticed the asian/western difference too, but mostly for the Idealians? idk. Supergems too maybe, but everything smaller...)

I'm not trying to speak bad of them. I love Soom, I love their sculpts and quality and everything, I just think that they need to adapt better to stay alive in the future too.

Edit: I'd also LOVE a release schedule! Or at least, like they did with the supergems, some kind of poll for voting heads/bodies...

 

@meanae About ID72 body, I somehow feel soom wants to move on from it. I don't know why, but they might be slowly reinforcing the move to ID75 and they're doing market conditioning? whatever that is...lol but I see more and more people are actually loving and preferring the ID75 over the ID72. The ID75 may sound or look intimidating at first, and can be a handful especially if you are more comfortable with smaller SD, but they're just more huggable and it's totally worth it imo ^^

So maybe Idealian line is NOT designed to be everyone's doll. They belong to a niche group within a niche, which is why Soom has so many lines to cater to other interests in different sizes.

 

I mean, these sets have been limited to 10 pieces total. Increasing that to 20, or even 50, would not impact quality or craftsmanship. Other companies have no problem doing so. This honestly is more like Soom creating false scarcity (to create a rush for their products).

 

There's only 1 person designing for SOOM Idealian and Gem right now I think. And that person probably sets the limits based on his schedule and how intricate certain sets are. And since he's been designing for both those branches of SOOM, I think he's made amounts he can handle. And since I love this new artist, I don't want him to get overwhelmed or the quality of his work to suffer, so I'm pretty understanding with these outfit limits--and I don't know if he has a team helping him or not. But I understand the frustration!

I get the reasoning behind wanting new sculpts and new impulses but just like @GreenTeaSlug I consider re-releases a wonderful and fair opportunity for people who didn't follow the company since their very beginnings.

Especially in cases like Soom's where sculpts are not readily available and can only be aquired in a very limited time frame (and on top of that, don't show up on the aftermarket too often ×_×) re-releases are a true blessing.

 

From what I understand, they do work with a limited amount of designers-- for example, like Dokkebijudan. I think you have to compare Idealian outfit releases to other companies, like Volks, who also have limited high quality outfits or even Freedom Teller, with their EID/ID releases. While I'm not sure if they have a team, most of the people Soom seems to work with have their own personal offerings. I do hope they don't have one person sewing and designing all their releases-- they're definitely a bigger bjd company and could afford a proper team/department for sure.

Don't get me wrong. I love Soom and they have one of the best BJD websites out there. But I do think there's always room for improvement.

 

I forgot about Dokkebijudan! You're right, it's usually between her limited ancient-type outfits and the guy on Instagram--"madeby.soyo" who's been designing for many of ID's releases. Both designers seem to limit their outfits...It seems like these designers are doing these themselves. I know the Angel-region side of SOOM works with limited designers too, but sometimes the designer "just" designs and they use their own members to sew and meet demand--this has happened several times with Camillia (?-not sure if that was the spelling) outfits. But, I'm personally happy to see reappearances of older sculpts with brand new sculpts mixed in. I think the limited outfits is the most painfully point because you're racing against people all over the globe!

@Cloudedmind it’s Tengo made by Caphook (ATStudio) the resin color, neck circumference and proportion is nearly 100% to Soom Idealian’s measurement

Edit: I would like to see more new sculpt or previous with fantasy parts for Idealian, not the huge parts of course because of the cost eventually lol but like what they did to Irbis, animal claws or ears etc. would be wonderful

I missed the limited quantity 10 outfits also due to same reason: I thought it will take at least a couple of days before they release York twitter announcement are usually at least a couple of hours or sometimes 1-2 days before they announce via IG, so if you’d like to have the most updated info, follow them via twitter would be better.

I’ve asked them about the monthly calendar also but they said they don’t have a plan for it. This kind of announce in the beginning of each month is only for The Gem, but it’s still a pretty good idea if they could, fingers crossed, like that we can manage our budget in advance.

Im using IG mostly of time by posting pic or talking to dolly friend, it’s somehow a faster way to do lol but I also enjoyed a lot the by using the plateforme, who would like to say than the “old fashion” isn’t a good way to communicate

I am going to use this christmas tree backdrop for a while, the whole place is in a mess after I started decluttering lol also, he looks nothing like Carl in person XD he has such a villain vibe to him

I feel like Tawny skin has changed, in real life he is a little bit darker than the photo but its not similar to the tawny I know, its not pink or with pink undertones, its exactly like toffee candy color, but milkier. I would say Tawny is a lighter bronze even, not like the traditional tawny I came across before. Ill see if I can make a comparison soon, but I really like this new tawny!

 

@GreenTeaSlug CONGRATS on the arrival, Liam looks definitely different from the promo pic, but his face reminds me more for Phonolus, I like the mature vibe that Soom made compare to the young face recently.

tawny is always so mysterious lol. In my collection, Tei is the most dark tawny i can tell so far, but he does a good match with my Zak’s head (which was made in 2016-2017 I guess) more darker than my Narmer’s head (2018)

@GreenTeaSlug - Oh I wouldn't of know what sculpt he is. (I'm not good at recognizing the newer Idealian sculpts...) And he's wonderful and I love his wig! He sort of reminds me of the young man that is in the new Little Women movie.
