@dailymare Wonderful…and so perfect for him! I can’t wait to see the view of his cute little backside. I dearly love those Pipos frogs!
similar to what teddy said, but I think a wrap halter top might work. you could add the wide neckband to make it look more Jedi. you might even be able to add sleeves to it. https://thedreamstress.com/wp-conte...-a-wrap-1930s-halter-thedreamstress.com4_.jpg his wings are so close together that a T or X back might be a bit tricky. for the outer jacket garment. I almost think a cloak would be better. but either way something with side seams at the back that you could leave partially open (or all open)? and add a belt maybe? something to look at would the American Duchess wrap cape, logistically it would work for your character. and it's a free pattern! cape! good luck it's definitely a really tricky body shape!
Thanks @Maud, more great ideas to think about! Right now, I'm working on the outer tunic, and debating on if I want to actually do a inner tunic or just fake it. I'm leaning towards faking it. I figure that, once I do the outer tunic, and look at it, I can go from there. I have many of the pieces cut and sewn together already, now to decide exactly how I can get it to work with his wings. Its a good thing I love a challenge! Ryu
Well, I had originally had big ambitious plans to make my first try at shoemaking with this outfit, but I doubt I'll have time to come up with a useable pair in what remains of the month, and I'm feeling ready to move on to another project, so I'm calling this good enough and done. I'm happy with the dress, and I think it works well as a sort of couture interpretation of the Lumpy Space Princess character. I made a glittery star hairpiece out of polymer clay, resin, glitter, and wire, because it's not LSP without the gold star on her head, and it's dramatic enough to go with the dress and the character I might try getting started on something for my Elder Scrolls wood elf doll next, if I have the time...or I might just lurk and watch how everyone else's projects come along. Definitely some interesting stuff happening!
@thedarkeststar13 That’s a wonderful interpretation! And that color is positively epic with your girl’s luscious dark skintone…it really sets her off beautifully. The little star is a lovely and fun touch.
I thought to myself, "while I consider how to fit Vhei-wen's wings and his Jedi tunic together, I should work on his binder." Since he's a female-to-male transgender boy, he should have a binder to flatten his chest and make it more masculine. I have to admit, I forgot how tiny stitches need to be in order to fit a BJD, especially a 50cm MSD! But it was fun to kick back and sew while watching anime, even if I had to redo the stitches over a few times. I took a quick snap of him wearing it, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Vhei-wen's binder by Ryuichi Sakuma, on Flickr Now I'm working on his actual tunics. I have the outer tunic cut and partially sewn, and I'm working on the inner tunic now. I forgot to cut sleeves for the inner tunic, but needing to be folded over a few times, they are a bit more complicated, so I thought I'll wait a bit to do those. Vhei-wen's inner tunic by Ryuichi Sakuma, on Flickr Vhei-wen's outer tunic by Ryuichi Sakuma, on Flickr I figured that, "its easier to make them like normal, look at how they would fit on him, then trim them to fit his wings." Thank you everyone that gave me ways to figure out what to do with the wings! I still have quite a few days left in this month to puzzle it all out, not that I'm in a hurry. Ryu
@thedarkeststar13 it looks fantastic! I love how the gold of the hairpiece you made matches her bracelets! The poof of the sleeves and the skirt is phenomenal, oh my glob @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 looking great, the shades of the tunics you picked are really perfect! It'll look stupendous when it's all put together, and his binder looks functional but comfortable, a must for an active jedi! My own progress kinda slowed down, but the little waist cincher bodice thing is as done as it can be without a model to fit it on and I've started a second skirt. I think I need to remember to pace myself, even one or two pieces each month is enough to build a great wardrobe over time. Especially since these girls won't be here until August or even later! I think I'll take a pic once I can show off everything at once.
Everyone's work looks so great! I just wanted to throw that out there. I'm still puzzling out how to do Vhei-wen's tunics, so in order to give my brain a break, I think I'll go watch some more anime. Keep up the great work, everyone! Ryu
I was so busy working on a full body series of tattoos for one of my SD girls this month, I truly didn’t think I’d have time to sew anything for this round. But I finished that big project early, and it dawned on me that I could sew up a wig from leftover scraps of Tibetan mohair “on the hide” I just had laying around from other projects I’d done. I went for a wild fantasy look for my SD Doll Chateau Gladys and I’m really happy with how it turned out, so I thought I’d share it here. It takes a combination of machine and hand sewing (and you need a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the needle through the hide when hand sewing.) Keep in mind that I didn’t sew her clothes, those are pulled from my stash…I just made her this super-long fantasy wig.
Lovely wig, @PoeticSoul! She looks satisfied to have it. I'm currently hemming the bottom of the inner tunic, the outer one is next, then the hard part...figuring out how to make both of them fit Vhei-wen's wings. I have to admit, part of me is a little worried that I won't get the tunics to fit the way they need to. I'm definitely taking everyone's suggestions into consideration, of course. They're all great ideas. Ryu
Don't worry. If it doesn't work this time, it's just part of the learning-curve for sewing for this particular body, and there will be other opportunitesy to try other methods. We're not here judging you on your successes or failures, we're here to share and encourage each other in our attempts at interpreting the themes each time, and enjoy the processes. Teddy
Thanks @Teddy, you're absolutely correct! I'm not sure if I'll ever need to make him anything else, since Jedi don't seem to change their outfits very often, but we'll see. If this goes well, I may make him a cape to go over his wings. I'm waiting for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series to start, so I can get ideas. Ryu
**Update** So I ended up making a bomber jacket to go with the pants. Turns out it goes pretty well for being a few different fabrics. I'll probably eventually make a bomber jacket out of old military combats.
@Tenacioous_R the pants and jacket both came out fantastic! I envy your pants-fitting skills. @PoeticSoul i love how big and extra that wig is ❤ I'm back to working on the accessories for my Lumpy Space Princess- inspired dress, after all. I was gonna just move on to another project since I'd finished the dress, just because I'd originally started it so long ago and was kind of sick of having it as a WIP...but a solid-color dress that has almost no accessories with it is 1) not what I envisioned when I first designed the outfit; 2) WAY too plain for my generally maximalist tastes in fashion. Today I made a necklace and tomorrow I'm going to make the star hairpiece into a full-on hat. Depending on how it goes I might still try shoes after all!
I finally have something to contribute! I received a Dream Valley Alter a couple months ago and have had the hardest time clothing him, so I finally drafted a pattern and made a fitted shirt with poofy sleeves. (I made the pants he's wearing too, but those are much less detailed.) It's heavily inspired by a combination of historical fashions and fantasy series/movies. In lieu of metal eyelets for the front, I used an awl and did hand-worked eyelets out of all purpose sewing thread. (Here you can also see the sleeve plackets I did for this lil bastard. lol) I also did pointed cuffs for a bit of added flair! And the part I'm happiest with, the back: (That curve tho. *Chef's kiss*) I'm kicking around the idea of adding a sash of some sort to his waist and a cloak over his shoulders, but right now I'm so stinkin' proud of the shirt that I don't mind him going unaccessorized.

@kaschan502 that shirt is so good! Very impressive with the little eyelets. @dailymare little froggy apron is so cute! Wish I had been paying better attention and noticed this round sooner! I have an old man bjd that needs an outfit. Not sure if I want his first outfit to he like a monk like an old Airbender from Avatar or if he's just the village fisherman like Baylon from Epic NPC man.
@kaschan502 - what a wonderful shirt! I love the buttonholes for eyelets (a lot of work, I know, but the effect is so nice) and the contrasting cuffs. @dailymare - your frog looks very pleased with the new garment! I think the pocket in front is a fun detail.
Yay! I like the sou nd of the hairpiece. It is a triumph of fit - look as how those seams curve to the shape if his back. Yay for flowery buttocks! This round has really borught us a lot of interesting projects to enjoy, and the month isn't over yet. Teddy
@kaschan502 Ooooooh well done! Such a difficult doll to fit, but that shirt is purely epic. That back is a *Chef's kiss* indeed! @dailymare Your froggie is so adorable and his apron turned out so good. That back view had me giggling with sheer delight. Gotta love those cute buns! So true, Teddy…so true!
All your projects are really cool ! Unfortunately I am still sick so I can't work on mine like I wanted to. v_v I hate being ill, I can do nothing but sleep. =_='
@kaschan502 @dailymare how cool, you both did such awesome work!! I made my second of four payments on my girls today, so it's only fitting that today be the day I finish up this round for them! (Unless I get real spunky in the last week, but I doubt it. Been working a lot of overtime lately, it's recuperation time atm lol) So all told, I made three simple pieces because I somehow manage to turn every round into a basics round Two elastic skirts and a waist cincher thing, though I'll need to make the shirt that goes with it eventually... I'm not looking forward to that, lol, I may just buy a little elastic crop top instead of torturing myself next round. We shall see! 20220424_212624 by Jules B, on Flickr
Ugh! Get well soon! {laugh!} If that's what it takes to get stuff done, then I can't see it as a bad thing. Teddy
@Moonycat31 You have my sympathies. Nothing kills creativity like being under the weather, so we certainly understand. We’ve all been there. @Mamo They may be basic, but those fabrics are fresh and fanciful. Such delightful pieces. Love them!
So ! I was fed up sitting on my sofa and sleeping all day, so I decided to start working on my project (finally). I draw patterns and cut fabrics, sewed them together (it was hard because it's lace and veil...) but I have a beginning of my dress. It's the pattern for the skirt, it's really easy to make this. I make it all the time for my dolls or for me. ^^ I put the pattern on my fabrics and sewed ! And I'm here ! It still needs many work but I'm pleased by the current result. (yes it's flash picture because it was very late lol)
I'm quite new here and I hope it's not too late to post my cosplay sewing project for this thread. This is the dress I made inspired by my favorite book called 'The Little Prince' by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. My model is Odette. Her sculpt is ResinSoul Xun. Hope you enjoy
@WintyGummyBear That truly looks wonderful and I love the colors…especially with your girl’s blonde wig. You did a fabulous job! And the latest sewing round is up: /threads/sewing-project-basics-round-110.855895/#post-13030519
Hi there. I know the challenge is over and the new has started. But I wanted to show you the dress I made. It's quite done, must make some ajustments but here it is. I will make the rest of the outfit later because I have another project I need to work on for this time. (the wig is not her final wig)
@Moonycat31 it's gorgeous! I love the halter neck with the sequin flower, it looks so high fashion! Beautiful work, thanks for showing us!
