@mydaffer I think it's adorable! It looks like a fun dress for the holiday season. I love the bonnet!
Wow! Everyone's outfits are incredible so far. @mydaffer Your outfit looks adorable on your doll. @lully.lullers Your first outfit looks so beautiful. I can't wait to see your finished second outfit. I'd say the corset definitely screams modern rococo. The pattern you used is really well done, and you sewed such clean lines. It's inspiring me to work on my own sewing skills. @Leenah You did wonderful with the eyelets. I'm a sucker for corsets, and you picked such a gorgeous fabric to work with. Love how it turned out. @Lillith Your hoop skirt is to die for! I wish I had your construction skills. I don't know why I've never thought of making a hoop skirt for my dolls before. I have just been layering 500 petticoats like a peasant, each of which I've finished gathering only out of pure spite. So. Much. Tulle. @RabbidBunnies That outfit is perfect on your doll. I love how perfectly the patterned fabrics match, while being so different. The messenger bag just pulls the whole outfit together. You've given me the idea of stuffing my own dolly bags, so they won't be so sad anymore. @quilleth Did you draw that!? If so your illustration is beautiful! I can't wait to see what you create with either the satin or silk. I tend to avoid both because I find them difficult. Props to you for having the motivation to sew small seams with such a slippery fabric.
@Tira-chan Well done. The right under things are vital to control the shape of the outer garments. You are off to a good start! @elve Cleaver use of lace! Looks good so far. @mydaffer That outfit turned out absolutely adorable. I've finished an underskirt to go on top of the hoop skirt. So far, so good. I did have a vain hope that this would be enough to soften the ridges of the hoops, but as you can see I will need at least one more layer. I'll probably use this one as the top layer to go just under the actual dress, since it is very soft and somewhat slippery. So now I need to make a skirt to go between the hoops and this one. At least, now the over all skirt shape is nailed down, so it should be fairly simple. If I can keep myself from complicating things... And here are the actual dress materials. It's a lot more green in real life. My camera insists that it's either grey or brown, no mater what light or context I use, but I swear it's actually a rather lovely shade of sage green. I am already resigned to the fact that this dress will probably not photograph very well, but I'm ok with that. I'll just focus on getting it to look good in person, and hope for a combination of photography miracles and good faith from the viewer, once it is time to share the finished thing.
@Lillith That underskirt turned out so lovely! I adore the silhouette it makes with the hoop skirt…simply gorgeous.
@Lillith that is absolutely amazing, it fit’s so well and I can tell you put a lot of time and love into this. All the materials you picked are perfect, I’m looking forward to seeing this come together. I love the hem so much as well. Great job!
Saw this late but luckily I was on a sewing mood earlier today. The goal was to make a pattern for my Supia Doll Juah on Cricut Design Space (so that I can easily make more outfits later on) and I only used whatever I already had at home! Full post HERE.
@YumeH that’s so amazing, wow! I love the material and design, the added apron is such a nice addition to the outfit. Your doll looks so pretty in it, it’s perfect for her. ❤️
@Tira-chan Sounds like a good plan with not doing ore cutting until the other layers are done. It looks like it's draping nicely! Excited to see the rest. @elve That trim is lovely! I'm sure it'll make a great detail layered with the rest of her outfit. Pillowcases are such handy fabric sources, but yeah I can see how fabric would get limited for a bigger doll. @mydaffer Ah yeah, it's tough when a project doesn't quite go to plan. It's still cute, the heart button is precious, but as you say, plenty of time left in the round! @Lillith At least on my screen, the fabric reads as a sort of pale sea glass-y blue. Very pretty, but yeah not quite green. The joys of trying to get technology to agree with the eye! I'm looking forwards to seeing how it works in the main dress; its translucency looks like it'll make for some cool effects. @YumeH Ooh, that's a neat use of a Cricut! The fabric on the dress is so charming.
Well my, my! I never even knew such a thing could work like this. Fascinating! Live and learn, I say. This outfit is absolutely adorable on her. What an awesome combination of fabric scraps and technology!
I was able to finish both of Kitsune’s yukatas to take his character to the next level. Both are fully lined which required some adjustment to reduce bulk, since I wanted them to be worn open over other clothing. I also wiped his face completely and redid his faceup to enhance his kitsune look. Since this sculpt has a rather foxy expression anyway, I think this character enhancement works perfectly for him. Then I talked his wigmaker into selling me a bit of scrap faux fur in the same color and ordered a bit of fun art yarn to make him a couple of forest-boy wig extensions. That was a lot of fun and worked great. The under garments he’s wearing beneath the yukatas are from a collection I made him in a round a few years back. I’m so happy with his final look!
@PoeticSoul I LOVE the yukatas you made! They both give him so much personality, with their fun patterns. The extensions were such a clever idea, I thought they were part of the wig they fit him so well. It took me a while to figure out what I want to do this month. I decided I really want to learn to make shoes. Truthfully, I'm tired of paying so much for my healed girl. Her shoes are often more expensive than mine! I thought of changing her legs to moveable legs a few times, since it seems she'd have more secondhand (and brand) selection. However, I really like the look of her healed legs, and I don't want to have to change them back and forth. I often find myself thinking "Why couldn't they have made her feet easy to change like the SD13 girl?". So begins my shoe experiment- I've decided I'm going to try and make at least four kinds of shoes to see which materials and methods work best for me. I'm definitely expecting some failures, since I've never sewn shoes before. ~The first pair is going to be simple flats for my SDM, Mako. I'll be making these out of fabric and light cardboard, using a pattern from dollybird 26. I have another SDM arriving soon, so I really hope this one works out. It would be fantastic if I could make them matching shoe designs in opposite color schemes. Plus, if fabric and light cardboard is best, I think I can easily adapt the SD pattern in the same book to be made with a resin heel for heel legs. ~The second pair is going to be a white canvas high top with a sculpted heel for my SDGr, Macha. I feel like there's a lack of casual shoes for heeled girlys that aren't sandals. I plan to craft the heel from polymer clay this time. I'm hoping these turn out somewhat like a heeled converse. ~The third pair I'm planning is for Macha again. I've seen a tutorial for human sized shoes where cork was used as a heel base. I was thinking I can use the cork and some fabric covered with liquid vinyl to make some cute wedge heel sandals. I'm particularly interested in the results of the liquid vinyl since I've never used it before, despite having it for the better part of a year. It's a gel coating that's supposed to give your fabric the appearance of oilcloth. ~The last pair is going to be a "cheat pair" because I'm reusing the bottom soles off a pair of rocking horse shoes. I'll be using real leather to replace the upper soles completely, as the existing pleather has deteriorated completely due to age. My sister who works with leather a lot advised against it and told me I'll basically be torturing myself making these as my first leather project, but I really want it to work. So I'm going to learn the hard way instead of listening lol. If they somehow survive my poor hand stitching, they'll be beige since I have beige scrap leather already. I'm spending tomorrow gathering all the materials, patterning everything out and starting to sculpt. I think I can have everything done in less than a week, since I can work on multiple pairs at once, but that may be ambitious with all the different materials. I need to make sure I have time left this month, incase they all fail and I need to try more shoe sewing methods. Or maybe I'll end up thinking "just buy the shoes- they are worth it!" If it's all too hard.
@PoeticSoul wow wonderful Yukata’s! Oh how I wish I could follow directions and could make them, those look amazing, very inspirational! I’m pretty sure I have a dress I made years ago like 2012-2013 my mother helped me with that has a Bambi material simular to your cute material. I love the outfits, well done, the wig extensions was a great idea. You did a great job on the face as well! ❤️
Late last night I decided sleep is for people without dolls, and started my shoe project. Here are the fabrics I'll be using for each one. With the wedges, I plan to avoid the strawberries on the pattern. Luckily I had this fabric left over from when I used a baby outfit to make a skirt for my Dollfie Dream. I think the blue and white stripes will make a really cute and casual summer wedge. Unfortunately, I don't have a matching taffeta for the satin flats, which the dollybird 26 pattern specifically calls for. Since I want to stay true to the pattern and instructions, the inside lining will be a bright pink taffeta reused from my mom's very 70's bridesmaid dress. Sorry mom, I know you told me to burn that thing. Then on to making the actual shoes. First, I made some plaster shoe lasts by using a fast drying silicone to make a mold of my SDGr girl's feet so I could make the shoe patterns without damaging her. I was extra productive and started the sculpting for the sneaker heels, too. Unfortunately, sculpting is not a strength of mine so the soles turned out...weird. I did make two types of heels and I think those turned out better. My sister gave me a good idea of using EVA foam next time. I also made the pattern for the upper soles, and cut it out of pleather to test the fit. Luckily, I didn't need to make any adjustments. Then I cleaned up the RHS sole the best I could, and used the old pleather tops to make a pattern for those. Finally I made some hilariously bad sdm size shoe lasts out of a chunk of scrap clay after realizing I'll need them for the leather shoes I plan to finish today. I definitely prefer the method of making a silicone mold, but I was really tired by this point so it is what it is.
I did draw it, and thank you! ^-^ I'm a little more worried about the crushed panne for her shrug tbh. the edges of it want to curl, and right now, it's not cooperating with my tries to dye it darker/ more muted >< The biggest concern I have for the satin or silk is fraying, which I can deal with by glueing around the cut lines. That and how the gathers will drape at this scale. Your plan to make shoes sounds awesome! @YumeH That looks cool! I didn't know the cricut could be used for that! @PoeticSoul He looks great! I like the fabrics you used!
Worked on an outfit for one of my BrokenMaiden dolls that needs a dress, I’m not finished yet but this is free style sewing and it’s so fun to wing it! @SunnyPinkSky love seeing your enthusiasm, looking forward to seeing the shoes completed!
That’s so sweet looking. It has a delightfully quaint and carefree air about it that I love. I adore how the bloomers are showing which gives the outfit a delightfully casual vibe.
@PoeticSoul thank you very much, I want to add more to it. I’m super happy with the way it’s turning out. The bloomer lace is from a very very old handkerchief, that I added to the bottom. I’m hoping to get the face up done by the end of the month.
Finally catching up here, thank you everyone! That dress was really fun to make. That lace was really nice to work with for that dress, wish I could source more of the exact kind but it was the last of what Joann's had right before they closed. @PoeticSoul I appreciate the input! I have yet to get around to making the tights and arm warmers, but I was thinking similar, that the printed fabric would detract from the teal print fabric in the dress. It's nice to see someone else thinks the same I have been really busy with sewing and have made three more dresses since I finished that one. Some of them still need some trims or petticoats, etc. I will have more pictures soon of these. Have quite a lot of catching up otherwise.
Oh noooo, I forgot to come check on this round and I don't think I have time to make anything! Everyone's stuff looks incredible, though!
Here's my progress for the month. I'm stalled a bit on how I want to do the short upper layers. I may need to do some experimentation with the actual fabric I plan on using, to see what techniques will work best with it. Cloud was less than pleased to find out what I've been working on while he was off getting his face-up...
I didn't manage to finish this month. But at least the structural under layers are more or less done, so that I can start the dress itself next time I pick this project up.
My, my…he does look less than pleased with all your hard efforts, doesn’t he? I can’t see why because I’m fascinated by your progress. It’s a wonderful and unusual take on a skirt and I’m certain it will be amazing once you work it all out.
I didn't get pretty much anything done for this round >< I tried dyeing some of the fabric I have for it, but the results aren't really what I was hoping for, even after 3 dye baths. I might just have to deal with it, since I think trying to over dye it with black could work but could also go badly. The fabric looked nearly black in the pot when i did the last dye bath! It looks much darker in the picture than it does IRL. I'll likely go with the original pink fabric on the left, but i might try it in the dupioni too, just to see. The top piece of green fabric is what the fabric I was dyeing originally looked like I'll have to try actually making the outfit when i have more time!
Finished Selene's jacket today! The top underneath looks a little odd because the eyelets aren't in straight lines. At least they're symmetrical. Except for that I'm really happy with how the whole outfit turned out! Here she is - Selene in Alternative Outfit[
@Leo Pheonix Well done! What a great little outfit for your girl. She looks great and it so fits the Halloween season.
