How does this work? Every round, you try to make one complete outfit (or more) that fits the theme as you interpret it. It doesn't have to conform 100% to it (feel free to be creative in your interpretation!) These projects are here to inspire your sewing and creativity. During the four weeks, you post your plans, inspiration images, progress pictures etc. It's no contest, there is no winner, we all just try to motivate each other. NOTE: Sewing Project is free for anyone to join whenever they want. New faces are always welcome at anytime during the round. This is our Seasonal round, where you pick a season (any season you like) and let it inspire your sewing and designing efforts. Your inspiration may be anything that the season conjures up for you personally, whether it be colors, layers, holidays, fabric patterns, etc. Just let us know what season you’ve chosen and how you plan to interpret it for your doll. And most importantly, have fun! Week 1: 10/1 to 10/7 * Pick a doll and post their name, sculpt and picture * Decide what you want to make and post a description or inspiration images * If you use pre-made patterns, decide on which ones to use * If you make your own patterns, get started on that. If you have trouble finding or making your patterns, ask for help in the thread! Week 2: 10/8 to 10/15 * Buy or get done with your patterns * Gather your materials (fabrics, notions etc.) and post a picture/pictures of them! * Get started with the sewing and post progress pictures! Week 3 and 4: 10/16 to the end of October * Try to get the whole outfit done! * If you have time left over, make some accessories! When you are done, make sure to post a picture of the completed outfit, if possible on the doll! Hm... the question is, what costume do I want to make and for whom? Or do I want to go with a different season despite spooky season being here?
Good luck deciding on that! I should join in and see if I can move on the STILL UNFINISHED set of ten SD-sized Victorian bathing costumes as "Summer" We shall see if I get the time to do more than cheer on everyone else from the sidelines again. Teddy
I plan to combine the next couple of rounds (seasonal and fairytale) into a special outfit for my Shironuri girl, Poetta (an ancient Volks 4-sisters Megu.) In the shironuri tradition, everything about her must tell a story, so I’ll be constructing a layered outfit in a rather cottage-y mori style, with plenty of details. Poetta: The season I’m choosing is Spring, owing to this wonderful springlike collection of fabrics I love. They’re from the Anne of Green Gables 2nd collection. I just can’t resist their quaintness and soft coordinating colors. Here is my inspiration, with plenty of layering opportunities to tell a story through fabric, trims, and details. I plan to start this little adventure with a pair of bloomers, my usual pintucked blouse, and a layered skirt. That will probably be enough for this month, leaving the over-blouse with decoration for next month’s fairytale round. That’s the plan.
I'm joining this round! Since its October, and I have a collection of Halloween themed cotton fabric waiting to be made into doll clothes that's what I'm planning to work with. I'm planning to make a dress for Hestia, my Aishavoya Wren. Here's my model in the previous outfit I made her- Marzipan on Wren
@PoeticSoul I love your inspiration board, all the different pieces are lovely! I am super excited to see this outfit take form! Your material choices are very nice! @Leo Pheonix I’m looking forward to seeing what you make for your lovely doll!
I probably won't join in since I don't know if I have seaasonal ideas for anyone, but I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone makes! @PoeticSoul those fabrics are so pretty! I love the one with little birds on it @Leo Pheonix Halloween fabric is always fun to work with!
I'll be joining this round. I'm going to focus on an article of clothing rather then a full outfit. My reasons for this are that I want to really make this piece detailed and try to be more relaxed with making my doll outfits; I usually put too much into finishing them quickly. I'll be making a cloak for Lial, my Ringdoll Elzevir. He's an Ice King so obviously the inspiring season is winter. The cloak will have a few items of detailing that I'll be doing for the first time; starting with the fur around the collar which will be adorned with chains of beads. The edges and designs on the cloak; which includes icicles and snowflakes, will be iron-on vinyl that I will be designing and cutting with my new cricut machine. There will be lace in the back and a specific lace trim on the bottom edges. I'll post the fabrics, vinyl, and trim later once I get to pulling them out of my sewing box.
Lemon is my model again for this month! She’s become very spoiled with me making clothes for her. I’d only posted the one dress for her (which she’s wearing again), but there were two others I made for her last month. I am behind with posting them though, since I’ve been sick and because we also had to put one of our cats down Anyway, here she is again, posing with some fabric for spooky season. The stars and green striped fabric with be used for a dress. The orange and black, not sure if I will make a dress or skirt yet. If I make a skirt, I’ll be making a black knit fabric top to go with it. I’m looking forward to working with the starry fabric especially. The time before last I had passed on getting it since I didn’t have a project in mind for it, but managed to get to the store again a few days ago to pick it up. The fabric/yarn store is really small but they have such a great collection of interesting prints.
I love what everybody is going to do this month so far! I have basic clothes to make this month but nothing I can think of to fit the theme without stretching it very thinly! I am just going to keep watch of this thread and admire what everyone else is doing!
Me right new, do I work on something however small for my winter themed boy? Or because it's fall and I really am in a fall mood do I make some random piece for a random doll themed around this season? That debate slows me. I plan to do just one small thing I can hand sew as need a new chair to use my machine the old one died and my back has been out so if I can't sit comfortably I can't sew right now.
Got this dress done rather quickly. It laces up in the back with eyelets, but unfortunately some of the orange paint chipped off so they don’t look very nice. I’ve used other coloured eyelets that haven’t given me that problem, not sure why those did. Originally I was going to make a waistband with the striped fabric but decided against it so the dress wouldn’t look too busy. I might make a matching witches hat, but I would have to make a pattern for that first and not sure if I will get around to doing that lol
Oh my goodness your doll Lemon looks so super sweet in the dress. The dress is so perfect for her, perfect material picks! I hope you do reconsider the hat, it would be the icing on the cake, (no pressure)! ❤️
thank you !! I am going to be making a hat for her the more I look at the dress, it’s missing something and I think you’re right, the hat would be the icing lol I found a free human sized pattern and it looks really easy to make, and even less work to make for a doll since the fabric pieces will be so small. Just have to do the measurements and all that
This turned out so-o-o-o great! I love how you mixed your various fabric patterns into a wonderful cohesive design that really pulls off the Halloween season with style. It looks awesome and she’d certainly be a hit at any party…and yes, a witches hat would definitely be the perfect cherry on top.
I've picked out some of my fabrics for the cloak, I won't be using all of these but I like to have a selection for trying out various layers and textures. The plain white will be the main fabric, the rest may be accents or trims. Here's my vinyls, three are glitter and one metallic. I'm thinking the white or silver glitter for the snowflakes and the blue glitter for the edge designs. I haven't decided if will use the metallic silver, but I might find something for it. I plan on cutting out my pattern pieces in few days then size and make the vinyl designs.
Omg that dress is so super cute!!! I love all the fabric choices and the whole look - it’s adorable!!!!
I didn’t finish second outfit from last month lol oops, but I’m just going to skip over that to do this month instead! For the season, I’m going with Autumn. Maybe something she would wear to Thanksgiving dinner. I’m working on knitting the cardigan right now. It’s a rich brown color that I love. But after it’s finished I’ll work on the dress. Aka the actual sewing part My chosen fabric is lace from a thrifted skirt. I’m going to let the lace decide what silhouette the dress will have. If that makes sense haha cuz the scale is kinda chunky for 1/4 dolls, so I’m going to have to work with it rather than have it work for me. My model with be Susu again, cuz I love her
I’ve managed to finish two of my pieces for this round (a blouse and a long pair of full length bloomers to peek out from beneath the skirt I’ll be working on next) utilizing fabrics in a Spring colorway. Since this outfit is destined to tell a story, I decided to use multiple fabrics for these base pieces. It makes more sense than doing multiple base pieces in single colors. This way the overdress/apron pieces that really tell the story (and will each be in a different color) will all go with it. That’s the plot anyway.
Lots of lovely seasons and materials this round! It's such a delight seeing what people are working on I'm going with fall for my season, both timely up in the northern hemisphere and I love fall fashions and fabrics. Still working on DearSD clothes at the moment, but I've got some ideas for my taller 1/3 gals next month. Last month I used up one of my myriad plaids to make Megu a dress I've nicknamed her apple-picking dress thanks to, well, the plaid being a plethora of apple colors. I also made a mushroom skirt forever ago that was supposed to be for the slim MSDs, but I messed up the elastic and it ended up fitting Megu better, but I don't have a lot of separates. What I've made so far this month is a plain white linen shirt to go with the mushroom skirt. I think both it and the apple-picking dress could use a vest or a jacket to go with... Just got to figure out what I'd use there! (Megu's shirt and skirt) (Megu's apple-picking dress)
I made her hat! It’s a little too small and only kind of sits on her head, oops. Got some more Halloween fabric so I’ll be making another dress in the same style, along with another hat (which will hopefully fit a little better lol)
@JaxxCapta That’s a really nice basic blouse and I can imagine you’ll get so much use out of it over the coming years. I can’t wait to see what comes next! @Leenah That’s a very cute hat…I love the green striped band, it’s a wonderful touch. Looking at it you really can’t tell it came out a bit small. It certainly photographs great. It’s so difficult to get this type of hat to fit perfectly on the first try…I know this from experience. Regardless, I love it!
I finally sat down and sewed my idea for this round! It was pretty quick since it’s in no way professional done lol Overall the dress is cute and looks good on Susu! It can totally work as a summer or autumn dress, but I styled it for autumn First, a few work in progress photos: My material cut out. The dress sewn but unlined. Lined vs unlined I think it would make a good beach cover up unlined, however I did not want her having nip slips lol
All finished and styled with the cardigan I knit for her. I also knit the hat, but that was a few years ago. And posed
Front Back I've made some good progress; I did the edges, sandwiched in vinyl to make it nice and clean so I wouldn't have to hem it, then put on the vinyl snowflakes and the trim at the bottom. The vinyl worked out really well, even though I lost some snowflakes because they were so delicate. I also added gel uv resin to the bottom trim and put mirco glitter powder on it; it looks really cool. I have to attach the front and back next and then do the fur and upper back decorations.
@lully.lullers Wonderful! What a great use of lace, and how adorable it is with a cardigan over it! And you’re so right…it would make a fabulous swimsuit coverup as well. Multipurpose for the win! @Alamentine Ooooooh…that’s looking so good! I adore the snowflakes and that lace is absolutely ooh-la-la!
And I’m done…for now at least, although I plan to add a few interchangeable apron-styled overdresses someday in the future. But I’m happy with it for now, and with all the fabrics I have left over to go with this many-colored base, I’ll be able to expand her wardrobe quite a bit. I consider that a win-win. I think it has a Spring-like storybook vibe that is perfect for her character.
Everyone has done such awesome work this month!! I loved looking at what everyone did. There is so much pretty fun clothing!
Everyone's stuff looks so good this round. ^_^ I am actually almost done with a project this time, my fall/spooky season cloak is coming along nicely for a hand sewn ADHD project. Just need to finish attaching the hood and add the pumpkin trim stuff I got. And get pix, if I keep at my pace it will be done in time for Halloween and me taking 17 year pix of one of my fave dolls (though he might be too big for it, it's a between size thing.)
Finished. I decided to forgo the chains and beads because the shoulder armor I put on him has it's own decorations and I didn't want to load it down too much. There's a few minor things I want to fix, but I'm a bit burnt out on this project for now. Without armor
@Alamentine Ooooh! That looks so sublime! What a wonderful robe for your guy…it’s the absolute epitome of winter. You really knocked it out of the park. Amazing concept!
@Alamentine I'm in awe of your outfit that's lovely! Ok I am not empty handed. My project is not finished as late start, plus busy month. However my cloak is mostly done. here it is modeled by my doll Thaddeus as made it to fit both 1/3rd and 1/4th dolls. Thad got to try it on as his dolly B-day so had him out and handy (he's 17 today) And here it is on the doll I was making it for who still needs eyes, (but tracking says tomorrow) and a wig but waiting to try eyes first. Please ignore background mess other doll sofa buddies, and the doll's extra mouth part peaking out his empty eye socket. It's been a long day in a long month. I plan to add some green trim and some pumpkin/Jack-o'-lantern trim later as time got away from me.
@Tippetarius Wow! That’s an amazing way to make a garment do double duty…having it work for two major sizes of doll. Color me impressed!
I'm a few days late, but my Spooky Season dress is done! I just finished it yesterday, and its actually two dresses, the black sugar skull print overdress is a separate piece. It ended up fitting I different doll than I intended it for, but that's ok. Here's Diana my Minifee girl wearing it. Diana in Day of the Dead dress
@Leo Pheonix I love that print! What a great look for your girl, and how awesome that it’s two complete dresses…that gives you multiple possibilities which is always a good thing. Well done indeed!
