More progress to report: looking at my previous pieced lace overdress, I felt the completed outfit needed a little something extra. So I added an old fashioned and oversized bow. I think it completes the look I wanted for my cute little ghostly character. And I just finished my second pieced lace overdress with a matching bow. The best part of this is that I managed to use up the last of my vintage little lace scraps. It’s great when you can actually clear out something from your sewing stash. And because I have a few days left in the month, while I was digging around in my scraps I found a larger piece of black lace and net, so I’m going to try to squeeze out one more overdress to complete her little wardrobe. My inspiration for this one will be what is called “dark bohemian” (also known as “boho gothic”.)
In lolita fashion, these huge bows are sometimes called "head eaters" (in a joking way, of course) and I've always found that to be one of the best terms for an accessorie like that, ever. Jokes aside, though, adding a head accessorie is a great way to turn a pretty dress into a full outfit. She looks so sweet! I've made a crochet vest with a beaded fringe. I think I'll call this outfit done for this months theme. Over all, I'm happy with it.
@Lillith Ha! Headeaters indeed…it’s a perfect description for these huge bows! It certainly adds a vintage touch to my overall composition for this character. She’s like a humanized version of a pokemon greavard (a ghostly canine who never got to be a pet.) A bow is what every pampered pooch would love to imagine themselves wearing, so it just makes a comical sense to me. And that crocheted vest to complete your outfit is the perfect touch! This outfit looks so amazingly bohemian! Well done!
It does make sense. A perfect example of how a bit of character and backstory can really help guiding and give meaning to design decisions. And thank you for your kind words. I feel I am still learning to navigate the tiny scale of this doll. She is so delicate that just about anything that I can get away with for the MSD-sized dolls is off the table for her. Even the things that work fine for my home cast dolls (that size-wise can share a lot of clothes with this doll) don't always work, since they are more heavily stylized and she is a bit more realistic. I don't mind, I have fun learning, but it is interesting and a bit of a challenge sometimes.
And hooray for not having to sew a ton of tiny lace pieces together to make my Boo’s latest outfit. Because of that, this one worked up pretty quickly and I’m really happy with it. I’m especially happy that this gives her 3 complete outfits, so I can now consider her wardrobe complete! That’s one more doll crossed off the to-do list. And the best part is that I’ve now moved all those tiny pieces of vintage and antique lace out of my stash! I’m counting this as a win-win.
I have finished the first tier of my skirt and am seriously considering not making it full length. I also keep forgetting to take pictures. Everyone's finished projects are looking amazing!
I wanted to pop by and say that I've safely made it back to the east coast. I'm settling in, grieving and healing from the whole... situation, re-learning how to be a full person instead of a fraction of myself for someone else's convenience. I'm hoping to feel up to getting my dolls back out and spending some time in the community working on little projects soon. It was so lovely seeing everybody's work this round!
Finally finished my Esmeralda costume on the last day lol I really need to buy an iron Photoshoot coming soon!
I love this! So beautiful! Congrats on getting this done because it looks absolutely wonderful on your girl. And our latest round is now up: /threads/sewing-project-science-fiction-fantasy-cosplay-round-127.873787/
I'm a few days late but better late than never I'm super super happy with how my shirt came out and it was an immensely fun project and I learned a lot! I ended up changing my mind a few times concerning the design. Should I keep it simple, or make something more fancy? So I thought, why not both! Spoiler: Two-Style Shirt I made versatile front flaps with hidden loops, making two styles in one! Now he has a fancy shirt/bathrobe thing Not sure it suits him, but he looks comfy nonetheless
Nicely done Teddy (coming back to the thread after-the-fact, having missed most of it due to not getting notifications again)
@Sanar Now that’s extremely clever and wonderfully innovative! Excellent work, and your guy looks great in it.
