SartoriaJ Mini

Jul 18, 2019

    1. Hurrah, she finally arrived!!! S. Jenice in warm ivory with the corset bust:

She's very pretty but I'm not sure how I feel about her? Her eyebrows are a LOT more orange than I expected, so the wig I had planned doesn't really work - looking at the promo pics it's just how they are, but somehow it's a lot different to see it in person! Also I had this same problem when I bought the FID ladies - I have a whole lot of Raccoondoll girls and both the SartoriaJ and FID heads are just slightly bigger, just enough to throw me off and make me feel they aren't quite in proportion. It's silly, it's not a huge difference! Well, I'll have to see how she grows on me. I do really love the body, so I guess if I really can't bond I could sell the head and get yet another Raccoondoll Sleeping Laetitia head (they only ever usually have 3 head types for sale, that one is my favourite!) Maybe I'll think about if another wig would help, too. Hard to say. I AM thrilled she's here though, and I'm looking forward to sewing pretty dresses for her, I just hope I bond with the head sculpt after all!

    2. There is a wide variety of human head sizes so it really gives a very normal assortment!

    3. @nancy_schroeder_ca True, but in the end it comes all down to personal preferences ... if you donยดt like it, however irrational, then it will not work. I cannot stand these tiny heads on the super thick necks many of the +70 boys have, but lots of others seem to like them. It really can spoil liking a doll.
@morganatron She IS beautiful though. Hopefully you will find a solution for her!

    4. Thank you both!!! I changed her wig and started sewing a dress for her and Iโ€™m feeling much better about her now! Lol, itโ€™s strange, sometimes you bond straight away, sometimes it takes a while! But Iโ€™m feeling much happier now!!! (I still might darken up her eyebrows at some point though!)

    5. Woohoo! I asked Jay if I could change the skin tone for my Juliet and Dominic and he said yes! Thank you all for your helpful answers and pictures.

So I made her a dress (when I should have been working on a commission, aargh, sorry!!!) and changed her wig and now I feel much better about her! And yes, I did make a dress in exactly the same colours as the dress in her promo pictures, I love that dress so much, but I want to save money to buy more dolls, not clothing, this was definitely a case of muttering โ€œI have fabric at home.โ€ I think the renaissance dress turned out well, mainly made with Antique Lilacโ€™s amazing pattern, although I heavily altered the bodice to fit the corset bust. She is so fun to sew for!!! I want to make her all the (historical) things!!!!

    7. @morganatron That dress is lovely, the color suits her very well!

Here is Bryn, my Matias. I am not totally happy with his face up (beware special requests, especially when they are partially ignored), but I guess I am the only person noticing it. Also I am not that happy with the wig - it looked far better on the promo pictures! But apart from that, I like him!

    8. It's great to see all the Matias's!!! What did you request in the face-up that they didn't do? I'm sorry you're not happy with it, that's always so hard! I'm glad you can still like him, though!

    9. @morganatron I requested the upper lip from one offered face up and the lower lip from the other face up. That they did. But I also requested that both (upper and lower lip) should of course have the same color. Which would be logical to me anyway, but better safe than sorry. Well, that they didnยดt. The lower lip is more red, the upper lip more orange. The lips are the most important thing of the face up for me, so it bothers me a bit. But I have no idea what to do about it, since everything else is perfect. But at least I learned from this that in the future I better stay away from such requests ;)

    10. ....Huh. Now that you point it out, I can actually see that! What a weird thing for them to do?! I can see how that would bother you, especially if it's more obvious IRL - I didn't notice in the photo until you pointed it out. Wow. I suppose you could ask them to fix it? Or try putting a pastel blush over it to even it out? (I know I wouldn't be confident doing that, but maybe you would be!)

    11. @Ashemanu You might try adding some red to the upper lip using a water color pencil and a damp brush. If you donโ€™t like the result it will wipe off easily with water.

    12. I hadn't noticed either until you mentioned it and took a closer look. That is so strange that they would do that. Obviously something was lost in translation. I'm sorry that happen. He is still very handsome tho, but I also understand how certain things can bug you. I know one time a had an Iple doll that I loved everything about her face up but the lip color. They have given her an orangy color. I didn't have the skills to fix it myself so I sent it to someone who could. If you are able you may try some of the previous advice given, or find someone who can help you.

Have you mentioned this to Jay?

    13. @morganatron @nancy_schroeder_ca @Bren Thanks for your kind words! They encouraged me to try and fix it myself. I still have some pastels and paints left from the old days, even some reddish ones, if I recall correct. Maybe it will work ...

I didnยดt mention it to Jay. He/she is always so helpful and tolerant with all my requests, I didnยดt want to make a fuss about it. If it had been the complete face up, as with MBLilacยดs Matias, then I would have said something. But I am really glad that I didnยดt pose any funny requests with my Raphael order ;)

    14. Question for those of you who have boys. What stands do you prefer to use if you want them to stand or do you just rely on sueding and/or wiring to keep them upright? Alternately, has anyone DIY'd a solid stand for them?

I've reached a point with a sewing project that I need to try it on a doll, take it off, alter it a little bit and then try it back on but it would be really helpful to have a doll standing by to be my dummy but I don't fully trust Jarrad or Jude to stand if I'm fiddling about moving pins.

    15. Summer sale for July and August has been announced!!! Looks like some discounts on standard dolls and lots of new dolls!!! As far as I can work out the new 1/4 dolls will be: Laura, Demien and Ella will be added to Standard, and limited FIfth Season dolls Daniel, Edward, Nicole and Lesley. Looks like there will be limited Cocoa Brown skin and army style accessories with them too. So seven new dolls! And most of them look like new sculpts, not ones we've already had in SD size, so no idea what they'll be like - exciting!!! Oh, and there will be new Rosewater skin that will replace Warm Ivory skin. So it will be interesting to see what that's like too!

    16. I just use one of those standard metal doll stands. There's no way I'm trusting my dolls to stand on their own. And it's easy enough to hide the gripper part under their clothes, and the vertical support behind one of their legs.

    17. @morganatron yay! I'm glad to see some 1/4 fifth season dolls in that cocoa brown will be available!

    18. what a handsome pair. Love them both.

    19. I have to say, I'm really loving the newly released short hair wigs for male 1/4 dolls, but holymoly, 150$ for a short MSD wig? :nowords:
Any ideas why they are so expensive? Is it because of the short hair on the sides? Is that harder to make than long haired wigs?

    20. Speaking for myself, male wigs are WAY harder and much more time consuming to make than wigs for ladies. Men have a completely different hairline than women, and can't have just the standard round wig cap. They need sideburns and those are very challenging.

My Dominic's wig took me three whole days to make.
My Judes' wigs took two days each...
I've been working on Matias' wig for four days already, and I think it's finally somewhat acceptable. Although it's not what I had in mind for him, so I'm probably going to have to start over from scratch.

On the other hand, a wig for a lady takes just a fraction of the time and effort.

    21. @Amadiel oh I feel you! When I saw the teasers for the wigs, I was like oooo I need that! But then I looked at the price and said nah it's not that great after all :p

Male wigs are hard to make, and those look really nice, but I don't think I'll be spending that much on a wig anytime soon either. I'll just suffer with more plain wigs haha

    22. I bought some of the wigs for around 70$, Raphaelยดs, Matias, and I am not impressed. They are very thick and superglossy, which I hate. All in all, they are just thicker synthetic fibre wigs. Usual wigstyle cut shorter. An exception is the red MSD wig which is shown on the Ella page. That one looks really good.
But I really have to say that lots of my Monique wigs look better and were much cheaper.

    23. Thanks Bren.

    24. The new 5th season MSDs are listed! I love the coco brown; I like it better than the Amber beige, but I'm not in the market for a new human character. The Nicole and Leslie faces are lovely, and I like the short boy hair and all the pockets on the vests.

    25. I made a wig for Matias...

Now he just needs a costume.

    26. He looks amazing now !

    27. @MB Lilac - Oh he's so wonderful! The wig you made looks perfect for him! What resin is he? Sonoran beige?

    28. Martha, I love the faceup they gave him, and you did a wonderful job on his wig. It looks like the wig you made is a tone or two lighter than his facial hair, and that's the purfecct color. Now, can I have him??

    29. @skyealloway - Thanks. he does look so much better now.
@luluna - Yes, they did a much nicer job the second time. He's Sonorran beige.
@oriscany - Thank you. Yes, they did a much nicer job on his second faceup. I had originally wanted him to have dark brown hair, and did make a wig but trimmed it too much, so had to start over. But I had ran out of dark brown mohair, and wasn't looking forward to dying some, so I tried Jude's blonde wig on him, and I thought that looked great, so made Matias a similar wig in a light antique brown.

    30. Did anyone get some of the new MSDs from the summer sale? Edward totally cried out to me the moment I saw him ... even told me his name instantly when I opened his page. Who could resist that ;)

      • x 3
    31. I didn't any of the new ones but I did get Melissa who will be my first SartoriaJ bjd :XD:.
Can anyone tell me what they're like with production times? :3nodding:

      • x 2
    32. My last order for sd doll from Sartoriaj arrived in 5 months time. with face up. so its getting better as other dolls was around 8 months of waiting time.

    33. Oh 5 months isn't too bad. I've put Melissa on a six month layaway (with the tentative plan to pay her off early if she's ready :sweat)
So I'm ready for a long wait :XD:

      • x 1
    34. Yes, my last doll was on 6 month layaway as well, and after 5months i got letter that she is ready to be shipped. so i paid layaway payment early and she was shipped.

    35. It's always nice when you get them sooner than expected!

Just wondering, I ordered Melissa in sonoran beige. Is that similar to iplehouse special real? Does anyone have any comparison pics? :)

    36. I ordered Ella and now Edward and am looking forward to getting both of them. I just love when their name pops in your head like that as soon as you see a doll.

      • x 2
    37. @Patrice S Ella is lovely! I was very tempted by her too, but I wanted to wait for the 5th season dolls. Hopefully the big ones will not speak the same way to me too ;)

    38. I didn't get one of the new ones, but I got Juliet, which I am very excited about!!!

For timeframe: I ordered my first doll in December (with face-up) and paid for her straight away, and got her in May, so it was 5 months for me too, if that helps. So I suppose I might get Juliet around this December - so that's my Christmas present to myself sorted!

    39. Iโ€™ve got an elf lobelia on layaway and I was wondering what eyes would be best for her?
Iโ€™ve got my eye on a pair of 8mm oval eyes but I am unsure if they will fit.

Definitely planning on getting Nicole next week, I love her!

    40. @Kaname Kimura My Lobelia wears the smallest eyes available on their website, 8/4mm, or 8/3,5mm ... cannot remember, and the smaller size of the two are not available atm. Looks like this:

    41. @Ashemanu Thank you for that! It really helps and your Lobelia is beautiful ~

    42. I don't know if they are mini or SD but the teasers of Maya and Henry on SartoriaJ Instagram are beautiful! I wish they would make a softer looking, less muscular male body for Henry, he looks so gentle to me.

    43. Yes, SD. But maybe in the future they might release them as MSD? I hope so! I like the look of Henry too!

    44. My Elf Agnes finally has something of her own to wear...

    45. @MB Lilac That dress is gorgeous! I'm sure Agnes is happy!

    46. Thank you! Yes, it's her special gown for formal occasions. Now she still needs something more 'Elvish', and something else to wear in the forest. But I have at least half a dozen other outfits that need to be made first.

    47. @MB Lilac - Oh yes, that dress is amazing! And so is the horse armor! Did you make that also?

    48. Thank you. Yes I did. I needed horse armour for a future photo shoot with one of my Iple guys. But all my horses can wear it.

    49. Did any one (besides myself) order any of the fifth season dolls?

    50. I ordered Edward with face up A. Would have loved to order more of them, but none of the others gave me apocalyptic vibes. They all look far too glamorous for the end times.

    51. Oops, sorry, wrong thread.

But since I'm here... SJ continues to be the largest threat to my bank account. The only thing that stopped me from picking up at least one of the last batch is that my collection is focused on 1/3 dolls. Lesley is gorgeous!

    52. @Ashemanu Edward is gorgeous! and yeah, most of them are too pretty to be in a post apocalyptic world, they give off mercenary vibes to me.

    53. Last week I got my MSD Aphrodite Jenice from the Tarot collection, I'm not sure if it's limited and won't be released anymore. Still waiting for new eyes for her to arrive. I will add some photos to Flickr today and upload them here
