Uh, hi! I'm Nickle, and I've been a long-time doll admirer! Back in 2007, I even bought a DoD Camine. I had made a few posts here, but stopped coming after a while because I was embarrassed that I had stupidly ordered my Camine without a face-up. ^^; (I'm aware that I could have stayed and earned entry to the Marketplace, but I was a silly teenager at the time) While I'm not sure if I'm going to keep my Camine, I do still love looking at BJDs. I also follow a bunch of doll customizers on YT, and am just absolutely entranced by their work~ A convention I'm staff at has a robust doll community, and after seeing a BJD newbie guide in the con's Discord, I wanted to try coming back here. ^^ So, hi! *waves*
Wow! Welcome back! I just got into the hobby last year, but honestly, I've been having a blast. It might be a blessing your doll doesn't have a faceup yet, there are some truly absurdly skilled faceup artists around these days that could probably create something really special for you that wouldn't have been nearly as accessible back when you first got into the hobby. Are there any other dolls you're looking into now that you've returned?
Thanks! I'll definitely have to look around and do a lot of research on face-up artists. I may even decide to sell him, I'm not sure yet. I'm mainly considering selling him because of how tall he is. I know there are bigger dolls out there, but for the space I have, he's huge! XD (He's actually up at my mom's since I don't have a whole ton of space here.) I don't have any specific dolls I'm looking at right now, but I've always loved the Minifee Chloe.
Congrats for returning! A lot has changed since then, so take this guide as a welcome gift: /threads/the-big-bjd-faq-guide-for-newcomers.850259/ If you don't keep your Camine, I'm sure he'll find a good home quickly. DoD has long disappeared and people still love their dolls. And I'm sure whoever you choose to get, you'll enjoy
Hi! I'm also back in the hobby after a long time out of it (and.... also bought a camine as my first doll, way back when LOL). Welcome! ^^
Thanks! Yeah, I was sad to see that they closed in 2016 (according to a fandom wiki page I saw). ;_; Welcome back to you, too then! (OMG, what a coincidence!)
Oh my, the memories stirred by your message. The very first resin doll I ordered from it's manufacturer was an Angel of dream "Lan" unlike you, I did have a face up artist to give her the look I wanted and she was wildly successful. I also bought a doll with her standard face up that was an unmitigated disaster. I bought her in a lighter resin than the face up was designed for and she was ugly as sin. When a friend of ours saw her and commented "She's scary!" I knew it was time to send her off to a spa for a wipe and a new face up. She is now gorgeous... Anyhow, welcome back to the delightful world of BJDs. May you be here for many fulfilling years.
hey welcome back. I've had a BJD since 2013 but didn't join the community till this year because I felt embarrassed! everyone is really nice, and I'd love to see what your thinking about for face ups and customization!
Thank you! ^^ I know I like more anime-style face-ups (realistic ones are pretty too, don't get me wrong!), but I don't have a clear image in my head of what exactly I'd want.
Welcome back! As a DOD owner and lover I can say you and your Camine would be very welcome in the DOT dolls thread. /threads/dream-of-doll-dot-and-doi-part-7.833348/page-21
Ah, thanks so much! I've yet to retrieve him from my mom's, but once I do, I'll do my best to remember to pop on over there!
It was strange to see this thread... I myself joined this forum 15 years ago, and the first doll I really wanted at the time was Camine... I remember printing out pictures of him and bringing them to school to show people, lol. He wasn't actually the first doll I bought, though, because I couldn't afford it, but I did get a similar 60cm boy. I've been in and out of doll collecting over the years for various reasons, and had basically concluded that I just couldn't get along with owning dolls in spite of admiring other people's, but these days, the options for BJDs have broadened a lot. I don't want to speak too soon, but I've tentatively returned because I may now be able to find something that works for me. Anyway, not to hi-jack your thread with my own situation, it was just funny to see the similarities - welcome back!
Yayyy welcome, and welcome back! I’m an old timer also, who ended up leaving after a bit because I just couldn’t afford the hobby back then. It’s a lot of fun now and there are SO many cool sculpts now if you get back into it.
Wow 15 years. I've been a member for 15 years on this forum too. You made me double check my status/trophies here. I thought it was since 2009, but I was wrong. Anyways welcome back! I've taken a long hiatus myself so don't feel so bad. Returned back into the hobby in 2018, I think? But here we both are! So welcome back and hopefully you'll get your market status soon! Just keep on posting!
Thank you very much! It's so neat to see others who've come back to the hobby after a long time away, too!
