Raccoon Doll Discussion - Part 5

Mar 27, 2019

    1. Of course the man body I wanted to order is set to sold out for the event
I wrote him a message to ask whether it will be added/unlocked, otherwise I guess I gotta get a full doll and sell off the head. 30% is too good of a deal to pass on.

Anybody has an idea what the gift will be?

    2. No idea about the gift but I'm totally tempted by the 30% off, too. I'm definitely going to get all those clothes I want for Alice, just have to wait till all the monthly bills (and layaways) are paid so I see if I also can afford ordering those hands and gun along with the clothes.

    3. Well crud. Now I have to figure out how to order one of my characters that I was planning. @_@ This is too good of a sale to pass up.

In other news! I received my boy's eyes today, so my Benjamin (Elf Kai) is finally put together~

    4. Jackie, that's a lovely photo of Sabia and AjiAji congrats to getting Benjamin look complete!

    5. Thanks very much! It feels good to finally have my character shelled properly.

    6. Hello everyone!
I was watching every day this thread liking all the beautiful photos. But I was so busy and wasn't still able to complete the outfit to my Rosie. So decided to post intermediate photos. Still missing pants and need to stylize the wig.
P.S. Also, I've just ordered my mocha Kai :drool FINALLY!

    7. Your Rosie is super cute! Cant wait to see her complete!
And congrats on your Kai order! I adore the sculpt. X33

    8. @Imateo, a mocha Kai!! I bet he will be wonderful! I do love Kai's sculpt so much!
I'm trying to decide what to order. I have a couple of options rolling around in my head. I know a want a NS Elf girl, I just can't decide which one.
In the meantime a teaser for the next segment of my blog that should be up later today. Been having a blast with the smaller crew through the storytelling, especially Sabia ( dark mocha Monica) and Hauk (Iple FID Lawrence). Blog linked in my signature below.

    9. @Imateo Your Rosie is a beauty. I love her style, although not finished yet. Oh, that wig is great, did you make it? Based on your pics of your Rosie I got my Rosie few weeks ago (bought second-hand) :):love

I would like to ask, does anyone here have an elf Camilla? I couldn't miss the chance and purchased her in the event (as she has been my wish for a long time) and I chose the mint skin. It's already done, but still I would love to see some owners' pics.

    10. Hello is there anyone who has photos of elegance Monica or actress Lara? Can't decide which one would fit better to my royal character. :-)

    11. I got a reply from Racoon re: selling of the male body during the event:
Thought this might be interesting for some to read :O

    12. Raccoon is putting new product up right now including two males -- Henry and a new version of Damien. And both are on sale! I like the new version of Damien not that I didn't like the old one too.

    13. Oh interesting. I like Henry's clothes and new Damien's Axe, but I don't understand new Damien's styling at all. I wonder what the inspiration was.

    14. I love how Henry's eyes look like they are smiling. He is very lovely. X3

    15. I love Henry's eyes but not the black line painted across his lips. It's so distracting that as I scroll through his pics it's the only thing I see. I like Damien's vest (and the Raccoon Doll Anniversary tee shirt) but what's with the axe? If he had elf ears it would make some sense, but unless it's a magic axe it won't do much good in an apocalyptic warfare scenario, which the background calls to mind.

    16. Oh, HECK. Henry looks like my character Vivian Crane . . . i am doomed. I was sort of wondering how I would shell him properly. . and now this. . . -peers in wallet and gets a faceful of moths. . and bats. How did bats get in my wallet??
Apparently I need to find the money to for an 86 dollar a month layaway before the end of the month. . . .
OR I can just hope he's back for the holiday event in December. . . He may end up more expensive, but it would save me from adding too much to my money plate right now. Those bats are looking a little hungry.
. . . he kinda looks like if Mads Mikkelsen and Cillian Murphy somehow had a son.

    17. Whaaaat!!! Prodigy of Mads Mikkelsen AND Cillian Murphy?? Tatterpunk, what are you doing to me?!! I gotta go and look right away...
*Falls off chair* I totally agree. I have now seriously got to find some dolly funds from somewhere... I hope your bats can lead you to a stash of cash they've hidden in their cave Tatterpunk!

AjiAji I agree about the smiling eyes :thumbup

Vermont Chick, yes I see about the black line - I have asked them not to paint the black line on lips of a doll I ordered before, which has been good. His beautiful eyebrows make up for it though, don't they! He's a special one :love

      Loving the Anniversary t-shirts.

    18. I've asked them to give us blank pictures of Henry . . I'm REEALLY wanting those bats to lead me to money right now, but with all that hair it's hard for me to be absolutely certain that I should get him right now.
I've got a lot of layaways in the Dollshe department right now, so I'm trying to be careful, but it's so difficult! I was fine then suddenly HENRY >___<.
Me: Oh. . hmm maybe I should wait till next year to get Charlie and Vivian. That way I can have my layaways mostly paid off and see if someone better shows up for Vivian. . .
Raccoon: -just casually plunks down a doll who looks almost exactly like what I've always pictured Vivian as- We'll just leave this here.
      Me: -cries-

    19. Most, if not all, of Raccoon's dolls make a reappearance with a different faceup, so I'm comfortable waiting this one out. A shame to miss out on the sale, though. It's a really good one.

Moths in my wallet, checkbook and PayPal account so I feel your pain, @TatterPunk.

@LilyAndRuby - Did you ask Raccoon to omit the black line altogether or to paint it a different color? I'm thinking I wouldn't mind it so much if it were brown instead of black. I love the eye and eyebrow treatment. The problem with waiting for a different faceup is that I might not like any of it.

I have no money. I have no money. I really honestly have no ******* money.

    20. The sale is very tempting! But there are too many summer sales!

    21. @AjiAji, Oh, thank you so much! I hope I'll finish her first look as soon as possible. I just have too many plans in this hobby:sweat
@JinCIncy, thank you)) Yeah, I fall in love with Kai at first sight, but I wasn't able to order him, but now it is a perfect time to get him! Raccoon Doll too kind with this event :love
@Sillion, thank you so much!:kitty2 Yes, I've made this wig. Thinking to make curls. Congratulations with your Rosie! Does she already arrive?

And the new guys are really interesting. I just don't understand what mold difference between old and new Damien? Is it just a faceup and the wig?

    22. @Imateo - New Damien is the same mold as old Damien but with a different faceup, wig and clothing. Might be a different resin color, too--I don't remember.

@nancy_schroeder_ca - Too many summer sales is right. Why do doll makers assume people have more money to spend in the summer? It's not like summer comes and all of a sudden piles of money drop in our laps. (Much as I wish it were.)

    23. Oh dear, I just started paying off a Claire for my Alice ... But I'll save up money for next year, maybe Raccoon Doll will do a 5th anniversary event, too ...

    24. Vermont Chick it was Elf Rosie I requested they didn't do the black line. I thought it looked a bit heavy and distracting on her in the pics. So she did look lovely without it when she arrived. I didn't end up keeping her though, as I'd had grand plans for a mini elf army (I had been watching Lord of the Rings a lot!)..but decided against it realistically haha!

Henry is a different case though, isn't he, and I wonder if he might need the line of some sort to emphasise that - how do you describe it - amazing curl to his lips. The more I look at him, he's drawing me in.... No, must resist pressing Buy buttons!!

Tatterpunk yes, a blank face picture would be good. You could see how assuredly, coolly menacing his smile could look (Mads!) :thumbup

AjiAji your elf Kai is gorgeous with his dark looks and great eyes!

Imateo, your Rosie is so beautiful and I'm loving the classy muted colour pallette.

    25. I don't know if I can post it here but I found interesting video on YT from Racoon doll maker.
      Take a look:

    26. Thanks for posting the video Edriella, brilliant! What a fabulous guy Mr Raccoon is, isn't he. I especially like the shots of the males together. Branden is looking great in that suit, so this has got to be a fairly recent video. Has anyone got a Branden without a beard by any chance?

    27. @LilyAndRuby thanks much! I like how he is turning out.

And I am planning on getting Branden with this order period, so if no one has one currently to share, I will post some blank photos and then when I do his faceup x3

      • x 1
    28. @Edriella - Great video--thanks for posting! I wish it had subtitles to give us some idea of what he is saying, especially when he laughs.

@LilyAndRuby - I had to go back and look at Elf Rosie on Raccoon's site. You're right, that's another distracting black line. This seems to be a new thing with his faceup artist, because if you look at his earlier dolls the lips are more natural. I wonder if he's using a different artist?

    29. It has subtitles! You have to click on them manually in the bottom right. :)

      • x 1
    30. I didn't notice that. I'll have to watch it again. Thanks!

I wouldn't be at all surprised. Artists and sculptors seem to make the rounds in Korea, so I suspect most of them know one another.

      • x 1
    31. Ooo AjiAji, yes that would be great to see photos of your Branden eventually please. I know he will be brilliant, as your Benjamin really is gorgeous.

Thank you Edriella re the subtitles! I shall watch it again too. Also, I am sorry I don't have a Monica or Lara you asked about earlier. Did you mention Elf Camilla too? I am also hoping to see owner pics of Camilla, as I was so tempted to get her when she first appeared. She is still on my 'hopefuls' list for the elusive 'Some Day'!

Vermont Chick, I have noticed that ZakoZako sometimes posts photos of his original faceups for the promo pics on Flickr, then I guess other artists follow those for reference when they are painting our orders. I also realise that there must be a few artists with less skilled hours under their belts maybe (like I had for my Guardian Robbie unfortunately I think - I redid his faceup, as the blush was heavy on his nose!), and some who really know their stuff if we are lucky. So fingers crossed we all get the faceups of our dreams! Yayy!:celebrate

      • x 2
    32. I have to say -my Alice's face-up is perfect! Totally love it, so I guess I lucked out on the face-up artist. :) Really couldn't be happier.

    33. @LilyAndRuby - ZakoZako faceups are absolutely stunning! I imagine just about any artist would have trouble copying one exactly. And talking about heavy blush: after two years my Elf Daisy head's ears are still too red for my liking. I thought by now they would have faded a bit. Not happening. I may have to take matters into my own hands.

    34. @Imateo I admire your wig making skills so much (have seen some of them also on Instagram and Flickr)! I have two threads of fine alpaca prepared for my attempts but I'm not able to get the job done as I'm too afraid of spoiling the material.
My Rosie has been home for several weeks and I really love her face sculpt. For me she is one of the most beautiful sculpts of Raccoon. I experimented a little with her face-up as her character has some age. By the way, fixing her left eyelashes was most challenging eyelash job I ever did on my dolls  I have redone it some six times!
      There she is:
[IMG]Lady Melissa by Sillion, on Flickr

I wonder what would be the delivery time for the event orders as they will be too many, I assume. The new guy Henry is really tempting together with his event price, I had the feeling that I could finally add my first man to my collection, he has the romantic hero charm. The dark line on his lips doesn't bother me at all, I think it gives the face more expression. My wallet says no but I already know I will regret one day.

Now that I have two Raccoons on two different bodies and am comparing them I became really curious which body sculpt is more favourite. Mine is the glamour body. Although maybe more stylised, it seems somehow more "full of life". What do you think?
And Lucy's (glamour body) arms pose better. Rosie was too loosely strung, which I fixed, but didn't help with the arms.

      • x 6
    35. ...and there's my Lucy on glamour body in her new jumpsuit in "boho" style. She's my first ever bjd. I have a strong bond to her and I think her sculpt is very extraordinary.

I love how Raccoon dolls are stable when posing. But when it goes to standing poses, they only do for me with flat feet.

Did any one here discovered high heeled shoes in which they can stand without support? Or is the problem in the construction of their high heeled feet themselves?

      • x 8
    36. @Sillion - may I ask what resin colour your Rosie is? And which makeup?

    37. @MB Lilac She's sweet mocha and she had the company face up (the one of Steeze Rosie) which was partly scratched when I received her. So I did a makeover.

    38. @Sillion - Gorgeous girls! As a girl with some age myself, I especially appreciate the gray wig on your Rosie. Setting eyelashes correctly is the bane of my existence. I can never get them right. You are not alone.

I can usually get my girls to stand unaided for at least as long as it takes to photograph them. For secure footing I like FairyLand's basic high heels for MiniFee (FairyLand Ball Joint Doll Shopping Mall). They only come in black, either matte or shiny, and right now the matte is sold out. Denver Doll usually has them but is currently out of stock. You should be able to stand your girls in heels so long as the soles are not slippery. Resin shoes equal instant faceplant.

    39. Love her wig and makeup @Sillion I don't have the glamour body for comparison but yes I like the sturdiness of Raccoon dolls. Several face sculpts appeal to me too including Rosie!

    40. Her face up is gorgeous. You did a beautiful job.

    41. @vermont chick Thak you! She also some wrinkles around her eyes and mouth but they are not much visible in the photo :-) I like not only body shape but as well age diversity in my characters.
I have some heels for Minifee from the hemeife shop on ebay and I can't make RD stand in them, their feet push the shoe's heel forward so that it cannot be placed od the ground properly. I can see that heels from the Fairyland shop are considerably lower. But the price is, well, higher than expected...

@LyanneNZ Thank you! I have seen your pic of Rosie in lilac lingerie wearing curly wig, a beautiful photo to remember.

@Patrice S Thank you! But partly it's still the original RD face-up which I have to say I liked very much. I just altered some parts, especially lips (and added some wrinkles as I wrote above so as to she fits more in her character).

    42. @Sillion - The FL heels may be more expensive, but sometimes higher cost is justified. The lower heel fits the arch of the Raccoon foot perfectly. It may be, too, that higher heels throw off the doll's center of gravity so she doesn't stand as well. The only thing that drives me crazy about the FL heels is the teeny tiny buckles. I wish they made a slip-on pump. Here's Monica (back when I still had her) in the FL heels:

    44. Khell, yes your Alice's faceup is indeed perfect, beautiful girl. I lucked out with my Lily too, she is Raccoon perfection to me. I keep mine in their boxes for protection and it's always a treat (ie I practically swoon at their beauty lol!) when I see my favourite ones' faces after a while. Then you know you've got a good 'un!

Sillion your girls are stunners! I have both bodies too and am surprised at how much I like the glamorous body, it's great. I do like the high heel feet on my girls (and don't always have the right shoes), so always need to lean them against something for photoshoots. Sometimes I only have a minute or two before they start to slide though!! I am totally in awe of your gorgeous Lucy's amazing pose :D What a great photoshoot!

My dolls have so many beautiful shoes and boots between them (and I know I'm not alone here!!!) - more than I could ever wish to have for myself in a lifetime - that I really must do some photos to compare some!

Vermont Chick, your Monica looks well sturdy with those lovely shoes. I can even imagine her walking in those! :kitty2

JinCincy awww Koehlon. I get the sense of a lot of power and depth behind that gentle face.

    45. That's fine I went ahead and ordered Lara in slim body, large bust and milk mocha skin. I just couldn't resist that Angelina Jolie look. :D

    51. @Sillion Absolutely stunning girls.
@Edriella Thank you for posting this!

@vermont chick If you have watched it with subtitles- is it possible you were the first buyer? He said he remembered the name...
@JinCIncy He looks like an elf king.

    52. @ResinRapture - I haven't yet watched it with subtitles but I believe I was the first real buyer. I remember reading somewhere that he donated the first doll as a prize to a Russian doll convention. My Sarah's CoA has the number 2 on it. I guess that makes her historic.

    53. How fun was that to watch! I love seeing the people behind the scenes, he's so talented!

    54. Welcome @Kimmera

I guess preference depends on what your style is. Some people like Iple and some like Raccoon and others like both. I like both. I find them both to be of good quality resin and the face ups for me so far I'm happy with. Great customer service and nice people to deal with.

Clothes are always welcome in either size. Both dolls have their good points and bad points again depending on who is buying them and what you are looking for.

I don't sew so I don't have any info in regards patterns and such.

Size wise, stretchy things would work best, because as you said, Raccoon girl is smaller and thus tight fitting clothes will not work for the FID size. BTW. FID feet are wider and bigger than Raccoons.

as for type of clothes. modern, fantasy, medieval. depends on what characters your dolls have.

I guess I haven't been much help. But I would like to add a word of advice in another matter you may not be aware of.

If you are thinking of selling them here, a word of precaution, and I only mention this since you are new and you mention that you wish that your Stella was authentic. Recasts are not allowed to be shown on DOA. You can show the clothes you will make , but unfortunately they can't be on your Stella.

And just in case you were not aware. Raccoon doll is having a major sale that ends this weekend. Can't beat those prices if you are interested.

      Edited to add:

Forgot to mention to you that they do layaway to make it easier for the buyer.

    55. Welcome @Kimmera ! I read your message that you weren't sure if your Stella is a legitimate Iplehouse doll. You can take pictures and "ask the moderators" Under "using DOA". Not all people are careful about keeping certificates and boxes.

Welcome! I look forward to seeing all your creations, though it will be a while yet until you get your girl (the waiting can be excrutiating, can't it, but well worth it!!).

    58. @Kimmera Congrats on ordering your Sia! She's a lovely sculpt. Raccoons compare very well with Iple and most Iple clothes will fit them. Personally, as much as I love my Iples most of my doll money for the last couple of years have gone to Raccoon. The facial sculpts are outstanding.

    59. Congrats on your ordering Sia!

Here is a comparison photo of RD Daisy, slim body and small bust to Iplehouse Aurora on the original body, medium bust. They can share clothing pretty well. I did not have the Iplehouse slim body at the time of taking this photo but thinking that might be an even better match.
