Raccoon Doll Discussion - Part 5

Mar 27, 2019

    1. @Scarlet C - Here are the 3 resin colors, left to right: sweet mocha, milk mocha, normal. White is the lightest skin tone, followed by normal, while milk mocha is the lightest of the 3 mocha tones. Hope that helps.

    2. I honestly don't know. Could just be slight variances in batches?

I was hoping I could leave the neck alone and just blush the hands, feet, near the collar bone region. Just to make it blend more. And the bodies looks so...flat compared to the heads, if that makes sense. I think I'll try blushing the bodies. And if it doesnt work, I'll just take everything off and start over. I was kind of sad when the heads were done. I had so much fun doing them.

    3. My modern gene looks beautiful. I wish her skin tone was lighter. :sorry

    4. @Scarlet C - Gene looks lovely. Don't despair. She may fade a little over time. My milk mocha Rosie looks paler to me now than she did when she arrived. You can also play with wig and eye color to see how that changes the look of her skin tone. A darker wig and lighter eyes might give the illusion of lighter skin.

    5. Taking photos of Monica....

    6. I’m looking for a black wig too but need advice. Besides monique and nine9style what other brand of wigs fits her head sculpt?

    7. @Scarlet C your Gene is just lovely.

Iple wigs fit as do SartoriaJ and Raccoon Doll gets their wigs from For My Doll.

This is my Daisy Jocasta in a SatoriaJ wig.

    8. @Patrice S She looks so stunning! :love Where did you buy the piano?

Well I tried SatoriaJ wig on Iplehouse Vanessa but it couldn't fit on her.

    9. There are no standard wig sizes. It's a lie.

I was trying out wigs last night on my newly arrived SD Vito Berial. The wigs that fit him were all over the map. He should take a large 5/6 or a small 6/7 (weird head sizes FTW!). A Leeke 5/6 fit him (however the same wig doesn't fit my SD Vito Rail or SD Vito Azreal *sigh*). A Litch 6/7 fit but was a touch big. FMD 5/6 fit but is tight (this is my Raccoon boy's default wig). Hual 4/5 & 7/8 did not (but the Hual 4/5 does fit wonderfully on my Raccoon boy, which he is unapologetically stealing). Some random brand 7/8 fit like a dream.

No wonder we have so many "discard" wigs in our collection even ignoring the wigs that dolls refuse to wear because it's not "them".

      • x 3
    10. Tight wigs with some stretch built in will eventually stretch enough that your doll can wear them. Wigs that fit currently will also eventually stretch until they are too loose for your doll to wear. I've been in this hobby so long that I have a huge discard bin.

    11. I have a bunch of wigs that have stretched so much that they just fall off, and they are just five years old. You'd think for what they cost, that the elastic would last longer. Was going to order new ones, but I think I'll try stitching fresh elastic around the inside edges.

    12. I was thinking of stitching new elastic into some of mine, too. I hate to give up on some of these wigs as they're among my favorites.

    14. @derilan85 - The answer, of course, is "Sew, knit, crochet". Alternatively, shop for flared or full skirts and dresses. Pants are harder to find, but stretchy leggings work. My two original body girls also wear some Iplehouse JID girl clothing. Below is my Sarah on the original body, wearing an outfit made from Designs by Jude's Urban Beat pattern (sized for DeAnna Denton). I took the photo intending to showcase her new boots.

@JinCIncy - I love your Nana! What a gorgeous and unique look she has.

    15. @JinCIncy A very gentle looking Nana. So pretty.

@Patrice S This picture is just stunning.

@vermont chick good to see that combination in a larger picture. Perfect find, boots and dress.

Somebody requested a Raccoon head/Jid body head swap, and I just posted the comparison pictures on my blog.
The Raccoon head looks good on the JID girl body. Vice versa not so much :D

    16. @JinCIncy your Nana is so pretty.
@vermont chick those boots and dress are so cute on her.

    17. @ResinRapture - I like the combination of Raccoon head on JID body. It works well for anyone wanting some variation in body type. JID head on Raccoon body? Just no.

@Patrice S - Ooh, Elf Amanda is so much prettier than I thought she'd be. I'm sorry now that I bought only the dress. Here it is on Rosie:

    18. It really is a gorgeous dress and I'm glad I bought it.

Here's Vespertine, my Laetitia, in a Tudor dress I made! It's my favorite era and I'd been wanting to make a dress in that style for so long, and I've finally done it! The pattern was an utter pain to work out, but I'm glad I persevered. :D The underskirt and undersleeves are separate, so I can swap them out for another colour if I want a different look. Now, if only I could find shoes to match... I suspect I'll have to end up learning to make them myself! D:

      • x 11
    20. Your dress is breath taking @morganatron. I love the color and style. In short, you've done a wonderful job!!
That's a great idea to not attach the underskirt and matching under sleeves.

    21. Thank you so much!!! I’m glad you like it!
A friend who also sews for dolls suggested the separate skirt and sleeves - it’s such a clever idea! I might have to make another set for a different look soon!

    22. @morganatron that is an absolutely gorgeous dress. Your girl looks wonderful in it.

    23. @morganatron at this point I’ve decided I’ll just have to learn to make shoes too

    24. I posted this over in the SD Vito thread where somebody asked to see all my 50-ish cm guys. Since there is a Racoon guy in this line up, I thought I should also post here in case anyone was curious about heights. From left to right are:
Eilam (SD Vito Rail, 52cm), Rhas-Khan (Soom ID51 Gluino, 51cm), Wisp (Iple Creea-J Lev, 50.5cm), Liroshan (Granado 53 Lucifer, 53cm), Arjan (DF-A Que-Wei, 56cm), Kai-Wen (Raccoon Doll Elf Kai, 51.5cm), Belial (SD Vito Berial, 52cm), Ondraeden (Soom ID51 London the Moor, 51cm) & Valerian (Iple FID Claude vampire 49.5cm).
[IMG]50-ish cm boys by ID Locke, on Flickr

If anybody wants/needs to see specific guys together, just let me know and I can make it happen. I'm also still waiting on a Dollshe 55cm boy *heavy sigh* but I've no idea when I'll actually get him (and I so didn't want to be part of the Dollshe 1-year club *whines*).

      • x 7
    25. @morganatron - Absolutely fabulous job on the Tudor dress! I love your choice of fabrics. AIso love the idea of making the underdress and sleeves separate. (Have you seen Iple's new FID Doria? Her red dress also has separate undersleeves. Yours look nicer.)

That's an impressive lineup, @Iron_Dog! My sympathies on your wait for a Dollshe boy. When it comes to Dollshes, I buy In Stock or not at all. I may be a patient soul, but I'm not that patient!

    26. @vermont chick I think I'm slowly working my way into having at least one of every male doll in this odd size. Or at least it seems that way on some days. Funny enough, it all stems from one of Batchix's boys that I saw at DollNorth several years ago (and wasn't able to buy). At least that's what I tell myself.

If I'd had any other option to get what I want from Dollshe, I'd have done it. But, I wanted a Fashion Maxi (I'm part of the first sales period) Saint, in espresso ebony. Finding a doll for sale 2nd hand in espresso ebony would be a huge task. Finding the sculpt I want in that colour, even bigger challenge. The size... well, it's brand new (nobody has one yet as far as I know) so....

    27. I really want to see what the Classic Minis look like alongside the Raccoon boys and girls (and FID for that matter) I hope people start getting them soooon. Speaking of Dollshe, I will need to post pictures of the 26F fashion maxi hands I got on the Raccoon girls. . the colour will be completely different of course, but I can show the fit.
SO MANY PHOTOS I NEED TO TAKE!! I also will take a group picture of my Raccoon JID body hybrid with the Raccoon folks and FID's once I get around to it . . soon. Yes. Soon.

    28. I can certainly take some shots whenever the heck I finally get my Dollshe boy along side my various 50-ish boys.

    29. Thank you for the great comparison shot!

    30. A comparison shot with Monica and my two FIDs. Miho, on the left has the original FID body with heels, Monica is wearing heels, and Bianca on the right has flat feel....

    31. Lovely girls all of them.

    32. @MB Lilac - Amazing trio of well-dressed beauties. Has Monica sold you on Raccoon girls?

    33. @Patrice S - Thank you!

@vermont chick - Thanks! Not really. Monica was always my favourite of all the Raccoon sculpts, and I don't see getting any more, unless another one appears that I'm totally in love with. but I'm at the point where I seriously have to stop buying dolls (don't know how that's even possible) because there's no space left to display them.

Right now she's away getting a body blush, and manicure to go with her dramatic makeup. And then I have to make her something specially in her size.

      • x 1
    34. I didn't think I was going to buy more dolls. Then I saw the Elf Kai that @vermont chick was selling and he shouted at me who he was and I am weak so I bought him. Then a seller that I'd given up hope of responding to my PM contacted me like a week later and said the doll I'd asked about was still available if I wanted him. Given that he was a FL Chicline Rou, I threw my money at her and he's now home, too. I have a body to buy for one of my guys who's been a head in a box for probably 2 years now (other dolls kept shoving him to the back of the line) but after that, I'm done? I've never had this many dolls in-house needing face-ups and that's bothering me so I need to get that squared away before I even think of buying more.

      • x 2
    35. I never think I'm going to buy more dolls--but I always do. I've been working on reducing the numbers to make room, but so far each one sold means another one is coming home. At least they're smaller than the dolls they've replaced, so that eases the space issue somewhat. When all my current orders finally come home to roost, I'll have 7 face-ups to do, some of them very tiny. Why don't I order them with face-ups? Because every dollar saved on a purchase leaves more money to buy the next doll. I'm incorrigible.

    36. If I could do face-ups, I would. That would certainly save me so dough. But it's not an option *sigh*. However, I do make about 98% of my guys clothes so that saves me a substantial bit of cash. Of course, I need to scrounge up the time to do all that sewing....

    37. I wish I could do faceups as well, but I've never like painting doll's faces, even when I was making OOAK art dolls. I mostly buy my dolls blank, and have a friend do them for me, but I've made an exception with the Fashion size dolls, since I love many of the company faceups. My biggest problem is space, since I like to have my dolls where I can see them, and all the available cabinets are full. Well, not "full". They could double up, but what's the point of hiding half of the dolls?

And who are we kidding.....do we really ever have enough dolls??

    39. My big wish is a couple of elf male heads sold separately like the girls!

    40. Me too!

    41. Me, three! I don't need any more dolls, but I sure wouldn't mind a few spare heads that could use the bodies I already own.

    42. I need to learn to stay the hell out of the MP. So far that's not working terribly well for me....

    43. I'd love to see him release the elf heads again too...………..and release the guys with them this time!

    44. Wow, look at all your fabulous boys!!!! That is so useful to see, too! I've been trying to work out how some of these would look next to each other, and it's so hard to know without actually seeing a photo. I'm really curious about the Vito - I really thought they wouldn't look in proportion next to the Raccoondoll or FID, but it looks as though they maybe do? If you have time, I would LOVE to see a photo of just a Vito, FID and Raccoondoll next to each other, so I could see how they look and if the heads look in proportion or not. That would be amazing to see!

Thank you!!! Lol, yes, I saw that Doria had a similar style dress, just after I finished making my one - it is a popular era, I guess! I do love Doria, would love to get her one day! :D But that's very kind of you to say that my dress is nicer, aw, I'm blushing! :D

    45. @morganatron Thanks. I love this size. Sure, I can do that. The Racoon and FID have the closest sized head of the trio. I can tell you that right off the bat. The Vito will be the tallest of the bunch. Body shape is fairly close with all of them being more on the muscled side of things (the FID I have is on the original muscle body). Did you want them nude and wigless or dressed and wigged?

    46. My elf Iris Soo-min finally got some camera time. I bought a shirt from Alice's Collection that seems to suit her OK for now. She's joined by a minion, and my spouse claims that she looks like a pirate now :mwahaha

    47. AAAA that is adorable! She's super pretty too (love me some WoW inspired dolls). The chupacabra (that's what that one is, yes?) is so cute too! I had been wondering what those looked like with the fashion size dolls.
      Did you make her outfit?

    48. Thank you! Yes that is the Chupacabra in a can ;) and he’s like suuupppeeerrrr fun. I did not make her shirt but I did make the corset, belt, pants, and wig, thanks! :chibi

    49. Ooh thank you, that would be great!!! Nude and wigless would be great, to see the comparison properly. That would be awesome!

    50. @skyealloway she does have a bit of a pirate vibe to her with her chupacabra friend instead of a parrot. I really like her corset and the blouse looks great with it.

    51. Okay, here's the 3 50-ish cm guys beside each other as requested. From left to right are:

SoulDoll Vito Berial fangs head on shown joints body, Iple FID Claude Vampire on muscle body (with claw hands) and Raccoon Doll Elf Kai. Please excuse the sunburn on the SD boy. It seems the face-up artist at SD got a little heavy handed with the blush. I'm going to be sending him out to have that fixed. Colours are mostly true to real life although there is a bit more difference between the greys and the Raccoon boy is not that creamy and is more white. My camera loves to colour-correct me.

    52. @Iron_Dog - Thanks a lot for this photo comparison. Raccoon and vito are visually closer in height than I thought.

    53. Yes, they are very close in height. Vitos have a slightly larger head but I don't think it's crazy noticeable especially when they have a wig on.

    54. Ooh thanks so much for that! That’s so helpful to see - I didn’t realise they were so close in size/proportion together! Hmm, the possibilities... :D

    55. No problem. If anyone needs further shots or wants to see different 50's together that I have, just ask.

    56. Thank you very much :)

    58. Wouldn't you know, the one day I don't automatically check Raccoon's site to see if there is anything new...there is. Two new girls: regular Julia and vampire Lara. I'd like Lara better if her lips weren't painted black, but it's nice to see Raccoon take a step in that direction. I'm wicked tempted by Julia, who reminds me of someone (an actress? a model?) I can't place. Also, there is free shipping from April 24th to May 24th. (That alone is reason to place an order right now.)

@Patrice S - I have a feeling that Alana looks fabulous in anything she tries on.

    59. Vampires!!! That’s so exciting!!! I’ve been secretly hoping they’d do vampires or maybe elves of all the existing sculpts - although possibly not too soon as I can’t afford new dolls right now. :D Also if they do elf or vampire Laetitia I know full well I won’t be able to resist, and I’ve already got three Laetitias, so, uh, that’s kind of a problem.
