    2. Wow! All of them were really good and there were some really special ones out there, good job! I entered too, and it is my first ever contest here, eep! I knew I wouldn't win but now that I have seen the other entries, it's even more apparent...:whee: But still, it was definitely a cool feeling, seeing my photograph up there! ^.^

    5. Oh, I didn't see the voting period was extended and wondered why the results weren't posted, but that explains it :sweat

    7. Congrats to the winners! :sumomo::sumomo::sumomo:
I enjoyed seeing everyone's entries and was so impressed by the cameras people made and techniques used! :3nodding:
I got to learn some neat stuff too about photos I have always enjoyed but didn't know much about. :chocoheart

    8. Congrats to the winners!! You all three did some amazing work and I'm happy to see you are rewarded for it!

Also good job to everyone else, I enjoyed seeing all the entries. Mine was #9, the 90s grunge guy.

And just a few things I wanted to say:

To #11, the Pukipuki "butt shot", I loved your entry because it reminded me so much of photos my mom has of me!

To #18, the Soom Puss in Boots Jr with the book shelf and photograph, your props and background were so perfect for this! Did you build the set for the photo, or is this a regular room for your cute kitty?

To #19, the girls' slumber party, you really took me back to my childhood sleepovers, it looks so much like stuff I did with my sister and friends. Especially the lite brite and glo worm, so much nostalgia!

    9. I loved your grunge guy! I tried to pretend I was all edgy and grunge in the 90s, but I totally wasn't :sweat You did a really great job with him. He looks really convincing!

The slumber party was mine :) I have really fond memories of building forts at my grandma's apartment with my brother, so I had a lot of fun putting the doll version together! Also, I wish I'd kept my Lite Brite.

      Congratulations to the winners! :D

    10. Congratulations! It was great seeing everyone's entries!

    11. Oh, I LOVED my Lite Brite!!! I didn't keep it, either, alas (although you wouldn't guess from all the stuff I still DO have!). :sweat

Seriously--so many great photos. Everyone did a fantastic job.

    12. I really loved a lot of these entries, but I had a few specific comments I wanted to leave as well. :)

#2 - I love the simple, classic styling of these photos. It's so cool that you made the paper you printed them on!

#13 - This photo reminds me of the Brady Bunch. You really made it look like these two kids were hanging out in the neighborhood and one of their parents snapped a photo when they weren't looking, maybe still testing out a new camera so the exposure wasn't quite right. There is something very peaceful about it.

#24 - I LOVE how soft these photos are. They belong in a fashion magazine or the portfolio of a pro wedding photographer. I hope you will display the prints proudly!

#29 - I think this series of photos is really impressive, and you did a great job emulating the original. I initially saw the original in an episode of Torchwood, and I immediately thought of that when I saw your pictures. What a cool idea to recreate this!

#33 - I love that you took pictures of the photos laid out on that quilt. That is such a unique idea and I feel it makes the presentation of your entry that much more cohesive and well thought out. You can imagine that the quilt the photos are laid out on is the same one that the dolls are lying on (though I don't think it's actually the same one, since the scale would probably be off?).

    13. Congrats!! ^.^ The winners had such a lovely entries, wow!! And overall I really loved everyone's work.:celebrate

Mine was one with the kitty in the 'bucket' :kitty1

@Zardi Oh, your entry was one of my favs! It was so cute and nostalgic, I really liked it ^.^

    14. Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who entered! I was really blown away by the attention to detail that so many displayed. I particularly liked the pinhole camera/camera obscura entries (kudos especially to entry 32-- amazing!) And the expressions in entry 27 seemed so true to life for a Victorian child and adult that I had to smile.

Oh, and the "just for fun" entry with Bishonen House Spade-- it so perfectly captured the washed out photos of the 70s it's not even funny. (Okay, it is.) <3<3<3<3<3

    15. #2 -- Loved the texture the paper gives these photos. Also cool to take photos of those real torn edges. Really nice effects. And subject itself was great for the vintage look.

#3 #4 #7-- Several different ways to get a vintage look from digital photos. #4--cool to see the photo you started with! Such a difference!

#5 -- Just having that camera he's holding gives a vintage feel. Colors added to it in a subtle way.

#6 -- Love that wallpaper! Very traditional poses with the chair.

#9 -- Nirvana shirt works, and color and subtle things.

#10 -- The stone makes this one feel old.

#11 -- baby butt shot makes me smile.

      #12-- great effects with iphone.

#13 -- loved seeing something vintage because it was taken with a vintage method. There's also something interesting about the naturalism of this sort of candid shot of two people on a street. House looks vintage, also. Reminds me a bit of my childhood neighborhood. Weird that the photo originally came out blue! Maybe those cameras had to be calibrated differently when developed??? (I have no idea--just wildly guessing.)

#14 -- I just really loved these double-exposures! Just really cool images, while also feeling vintage.

#16 -- Loved this image, too. Interesting to learn about that type of photo. Those leaves look painted with that soft focus.

#18 -- Another one I loved. Just a classic pose with that sepia color. Scratch mark at the top was effective. Liked all the detail and props, too.

#19 -- Adorable. This really makes me nostalgic for blanket forts and nite brites and Lanz/flannel nighties...

#20 -- I thought these were really effective. Even the unpainted face worked for me, giving an old-time feel to these shots.

#24 -- Love the soft focus on these.

#27 -- Such a striking image with those two! Often dolls don't have a lot of expression to their faces, but these definitely do. (Makes me want to know the story!)

#29 -- Great concept using the Cottingley fairy photos as inspiration.

And I loved those I didn't individually mention, too. Seriously--I could have voted for any and all of you! You are all winners, as far as I'm concerned. :aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

    19. Huge congrats to the winners! :cheer

    20. Congratulations to the winners, I'm glad one of my favorites got a place under the first three <3

I have no idea if anybody liked my entry, but I did a DSLR shot of the setting as I took the photos back then and I wanted to share it as a "thank you" for everybody who liked my photos.

      It was really hard to me to work with the instant photo camera, I am glad I can use my usual one for regular photos ^^;

    21. Congrats to the winners! Mine was #13. @Zardi That's exactly the look I was going for. I'm glad it came through! @april Yea, I was trying to go for the kind of candid shot that the "Kodak Moment" advertising campaign made popular. All the houses in my neighborhood were built in the '60's and '70's, and the camera was one I bought 10 years ago and never used, so everything just worked out perfectly. The blue might have been because the film was expired.

    22. Thanks to everyone!!! I'm super happy to be one of the winners :D I put a LOT of work into my photos so I'm glad it came out.

[IMG]DOA Photography Contest Process by Dottie, on Flickr

For anyone interested here's some info on how I did them:

Top left: my chemicals! What a professional looking darkroom. Wow.

Top Right: the setup for photographing! The small tea tin on the tripod is my camera. It's got a pin hole on the side facing the doll, and took around 10 minutes to expose for each photo. There is no lens in this camera, it works like a camera obscura so focus and exposure are both things I had to wing ;)

Bottom right: after processing, this is what shows up on the paper. Images come out as negatives on the photo paper. If I had an enlarger I would sandwich this paper over a fresh sheet and expose it to create a print on photo paper. But I have no enlarger! So I had to scan and invert the image digitally to produce...

Bottom Left: Finished image! It took me about 20 minutes per photo to see what comes out. I took this photo with a wooden pinhole camera, and the inside of the split wood surface actually showed up in the photo! It creates a vignette effect, but you can actually see splinters of wood encircling the image :) A fun experience!!!

Congrats to everyone else as well, I think everyone should be proud of what they came up with ^^

    23. Oh, thank you so much! That was my entry.
Haha, I was learning about it too!! Being a kid, I sorta thought all of the photos I had seen were daguerreotypes. I was quite wrong! There were lots of kinds of photos in that period. It was so interesting to learn about the differences in how they looked and were made. It was really nice to go back to something that I used to love but hadn't really experienced in a long, long time. I pulled out the few special photos I had been able to collect over those years and they were so lovely to see again. :chocoheart

    24. I liked yours! :) Your doll looks so real in those photos, like someone who likes to model for the camera but who is a little shy at the same time. You did a great job!

    25. You sure deserved the win!

    26. @guls207 or @april Is it possible for other contestants to find out where we placed?

    32. You never know what people will like!

I got a few votes so thank you to those who chose mine! I really like my photos but they don’t have as much vintage style as many others. Then again, I went with 1990s which doesn’t actually feel that long ago to me. Lol

    33. Considering some people actually built cameras for this challenge, I'm happy with how I placed :) It's very clear that everybody worked hard, regardless!

    34. Mine was entry #11, if you voted for me I'm really thankful!
I had a lot of trouble trying to frame it cause the result was always different from what I saw in the viewer LOL
