Penny’s box Blind boxes

Jul 10, 2022

    1. This Friday, according to one IG post. They're already available for pre-sale order on Jane's Dolland, too.

      Penny's Box is releasing dragons!!

They will be part of the Adou series instead of Antu, and will consist of 3 boys, 3 girls and 1 hidden girl. They are scheduled for a spring release.

    3. Really looking forward to seeing more about these! And I'm especially glad to see a different series get some love!

      • x 2
    4. I've ordered a series two Antu centaur and an Antu Tidal mermaid. I scrounged around AliExpress for tiny furniture, so I can finally set up little scenes. That was always the issue with my 1/3 scale boys; it's so tricky to get scale furniture that they wind up just sort of...standing around. I'm really looking forward to making little scenes for them and would love to see scenes y'all have built.

I know people have gotten their centaurs; has anybody gotten their mermaids yet? Anybody willing to share pics of either?

    5. I've just got notification that my Bonbon Galaxy kitty-bone fish has shipped! I am actually quite excited for her to arrive as I find the cute face cheers me up but a bit nervous as don't know how well the mass produced versions hold up against the promo one :sweat

And speaking of mermaids, now that the Penny Box mermaids have reveled the size to be 23cm, I'm giving them more of an eye. The given head measurement is 16cm which means potentially the head could be swapped out for a 1/6 head. I'm thinking about trying the BBG kitty-bone fish head on one of the PB mermaids as the neck measurements are close but but can't find a circumference measurement for BBG.

    6. Haven't gotten them yet, but they have shipped and are currently passing through U.S. customs! I am super excited. I think they're just adorbs. :dance

    7. I can't speak on the quality of the full sets, but I got my blank bonefish a few days back and I couldn't help but be struck by the level of detail and care that went into the design. Opening it had the same sort of magical feeling I normally get when unboxing larger resin dolls (that feeling you are unboxing a work of art), only in teeny tiny form. Can't believe it only cost $50

Feels like the more of these tiny dolls that come out, the pickier I find myself being. That being said, I think the new Penny's Box dragons might be the next one to tempt me into a purchase. Love those tiny dragon feet.

    8. Ahhhhhhhh! My kitty-bone fish arrived today! And she is totally darling :dance
      [IMG]
I was a little anxious about what the quality of the full set would be like but it looks like a lot of care was used both with the paint job and the outfit. The doll also came in a nice ABJD style box with foam insert & COA so nicely presented. Despite the relatively low pricing, they don't seem to have skimped on anything. I'm very impressed with everything and 100% happy.

I was surprised they included the free extra face, ears and eye decals as I ordered after the free gift time period so it was generous they were still added in! The only thing that was missing is that while they included magnets for the ears, there wasn't an extra set of magnets to go under the headband for the ears to connect to. Fortunately I have some small magnets for crafts so can use a couple of them. I was interested to see the normal ears also magnet on so I can leave them off when using the cat ears (I'm not a fan of the human ears + animal ears look so glad I can pick between them).

I've also included the orca body in the photo as a comparison. The bone tail has a greater range of movement but the orca tail feels more stable. I'm hoping the bone fish fins and tail will fit the orca tail so I can switch out the pelvis/ tail. It'll be fun to have the bone tail for halloween :XD:

I'm definitely going to keep an eye on Bonbon Galaxy's releases as they've seriously impressed me :thumbup

    9. Can't wait for the dragons! .......Goodbye wallet...... :sweat

    10. I needed to go to the hardware store and remembered to pick up some superglue to glue the magnets into the kitty ears. As I was playing around with the doll I was curious if the bone-fish could stand on it's tail like the orca body. I was doubtful due to the long skinny tail and the doll being top heavy but...
Yes, the doll did it very easily and seems surprisingly stable! :XD:

I'm glad you got your doll safe and sound too. Do you have an idea of how you want to do her up? :)

    11. As Bonbon Galaxy doesn't quite fall into the 'blind boxes' category, I've created a separate thread here for them! :)

    12. oh NO their lil PEETS my tax return better be hefty this year dragons are my fatal weakness

      • x 3
    13. So I am really looking forward to more promo stuff for the dragons - the little feets and the inset eyes! They're hitting all the right spots.

      • x 1
    14. My Tidal mermaid girl arrived! I got the blue-and-pink butterfly girl. She can't stand on her tail as far as I can tell, so I've got her on a stand.

      • x 1
    15. The promo picture of the dragons is causing me to have second thoughts, as I thought it was an easy pass. The boy dragon in the picture has the exact same face as my favorite Adou boy, who sits right next to me by my chair.

      • x 2
    16. When I saw them I was reminded of my boy Shen Xiaolong (he's a Dollzone Yin-Long), so I could never pass hehe!

    17. I got my Penny's Box mermaids, and OMG. They are so cute. They are all pastel (blue, purple, and green - which were the three I wanted the most. Blind Box bingo!). They come with little double-sided sticky dots to hold their little seashells in place, and a couple pairs of different hands. Ooh! And each one comes with a little dress! That will fit the centaurs, cuz they open all the way in the back!
      Crummy IG pic here.
The green one's dress comes with a tiny crinoline. When I tell you I squeeeed. So. Stinking. Cute.
The cards they come with are gorgeous, too. And they come with instructions that show you how to swap between human legs, centaur legs, and mermaid tail. They definitely need a stand - standard too-heavy head makes them topple over easily. But they cost about the same as a Barbie doll, and Barbie can't stand on her own, either.
Worth every penny. This has completely killed any interest in playline, store-bought dolls. Why waste money on a crummy Barbie when I can have this?
Now I've got to unearth that 10-gallon aquarium and get started on my diorama.

    18. I love Adou, and I hope I can get one of the dragons that are the boy ones (because I am a weirdo).

I got my first Penny's Box Antu mermaid, I don't know if I'll be getting more, but she's definitely a stunning little doll. I got "Shimmer," I don't know if that's her official Chinese name, but I can barely read/speak/write in English, so what else can be expected...DX

The box is quite huge, compared to other trading dolls.

I got her from PB's official Amzn seller. She got here super-fast, despite the holiday delays making everything get here later than usual. I purchased her before Xmas, she got here yesterday, but the fact that she shipped from China, and still managed to get here in less than three weeks, is crazy. I got other stuff at the same time, that shipped from Amzn's USA warehouse, and it just got here at the same time, so...(whatimsayingisamznsucks!). (:

    19. Lol, true dat. The box is HUGE compared to other blind box dolls. But the mermaid is pretty long, too.
In the double-ziploc baggie are a pair of little translucent fins that slot into her hips - I forgot to point that out earlier. They're friction-fit - no magnets. And they're also really stinking cute.
D'awww, Shimmer is so cute, @Enzyme ! There's one more purple-ish one I might get at some point. Depends upon if I'm at max mermaid capacity after the Chu-chu mermaids show up. And apparently, those are starting to ship, too! I've seen photos in the wild in Insta.

    20. All the Antu mermaids are beautiful, I didn't mind which one I would possibly get. I would have also loved the jellyfish one, I might need to try to get her one day. However, I am happy if Shimmer is my one and only. These might be larger headed as well, from what I can tell? I didn't bother comparing them to my other Antu girls, because I haven't gotten any tiny stands, and I don't trust strung dolls without stands (I just looked at which I got and shoved them back into their boxes). I actually don't even trust action figures w/out them, because I live in an earthquake prone area. I don't plan on getting other companies' mermaids so far, but I am looking forward to seeing photos of all of them! They are all so cute and different. (:

      • x 1
    21. The mermaids are so cute! I'm going to ask for one for my birthday in a couple months to satisfy my "I'm a Pisces, I need a mermaid bjd" thoughts, so its fun seeing pics of them from others!

      • x 1
    22. I think the heads are about the same size - but the hair is bigger. MUCH bigger. Dolly Parton hair, lol.

      • x 1
    23. Looks like the dragon tail/wing parts are going to be different between the girls/boys. Of course I prefer the dragon bits on the girls and the human bits on the boys. :doh

    24. I gave in and ordered an antu mermaid. I just love their tails and bodies. I might leave it with its original head, or swap it out. We'll see. Today (Jan 9) they have some of the clear mermaid bodies for sale too. Not sure how long that'll last but I had to grab that too.

    25. I got mine this past week, after she took a circuitous month long route to my house. Definitely has to lean against something to stand on her tail, but super cute!

    26. @Rosslyn - congrats! They are really freaking cute. I hope you post a pic when she arrives! I love seeing doll pictures.

    27. I will not lie, I have been tempted by the mermaids, but I am going to hold off to hopefully to be able to get a couple of dragons once they're available

      • x 1
    28. The dragons are absolutely adorable, but I'm the opposite, lol - I'm satisfied with my little mermaids. Eagerly awaiting my Chu-Chus. Got my aquarium all clean and ready to paint!
I used to keep fish, so I have lots of leftovers to use to decorate.

    29. I need the dragons so very, very badly. The fussy glasses boy speaks to my spirit on a deep level (the level where I love fussy glasses boys).

    32. I plan to get the shrimp dragon (the pink one). Normally I get these smaller dolls as bodies to use with my nendoroid collection, but this is the first time I plan to be using the default head, although I will be customizing the faceup. Just love that sassy expression.

Can't help but bemoan the fact they are only including one dragon hand though. :sigh

    33. By reading Hermeow's website description (via Edge's translation), it seems Adou & Alu are also designs belonging to DollZone. I always wondered since Adou came out, because their website also listed Adou as a PB collab with DZ, but I was never able to find more info on that, nor do I know of any resin DZ releases that are named that. I am still a fan of the Adou face sculpt, regardless and I wish I could have gotten more of the 1st released figures, because they were hinged jointed and not strung (I prefer non-strung articulated dolls/figures in general).

I'm probably getting a dragon or two, I like the smug looking face sculpts on all these, but I would rather them releasing full sets of just girls, or just boys. It's kind of a pain, when you only want to collect one type and the chances are lowered when they have both mixed in. I don't mind with these too much, because I can pretend, they are all boys whichever I get. It's just with the more humanoid ones it's kind of a pain (because I am a weirdo, and rather own more of the boys, if they are available, since I hoard so many female mass-produced fashion dolls, because of the lack of cool-looking-male ones, IMHO!). DX

    34. Oh, it looks to have really good balance there! Yeah, definitely got to get a couple of dragons.

      • x 1
    35. Didn't know the dragons were DZ collabs.... Then again, considering that Dollzone has a dragon sculpt that's similar to these dollies, it makes sense. I find it funny that both the first BJD I ever truly loved and was willing to pre-order and the first Penny's box dolls I was interested in both had the Chinese Dragon theme!

I got the Little Painter and Little Witch Cat variant through Kikagoods, and can't say they won't be a problem going into the future. She's pretty solid, especially with her shoes on, and her clothes are decent quality (though they need some clean-up for loose and long threads).

Is it possible to restring them? And I'm assuming there's no (easy) access to the inside of the head.

      • x 3
    37. There is easy access to the inside of the head! It’s in multiple pieces so remove the front hair/ bangs piece then the back of the head should come off and the face is the last piece. Then all that’s left is the neck piece which has the usual hook most BJDs have.

      • x 1

    38. Awesome, thanks! I was worried if I tried too hard to pry a piece off that I would break her :XD:

      • x 1
    39. I think the dragons are available now.... at least I think Kikagoods is shipping them out or something... :)

    40. I did get a shipping notification this morning for my dragons, so I think you might be right on that! Cannot wait to see them in person.

    41. I got my Antu Mermaids- the Pink Rose Mermaid was my blind Box result, and she's awful cute. the little dress is SO well made!
      But!
What I came here to tell you guys is that I also got a Clear Mermaid Body, and I found out that if you change the neck top head adapter for the one that comes with a Good Smile Company Nendoroid type Custom head, in Cream (the orange box in this pic) You can then put pale toned Nendoroid faces on these bodies. I'm also going to experiment with dyeing that tail, maybe.

Here's a pic with me having removed the S hook and the Antu head adapter, and I am using a twisty tie wire to thread the elastic through the new head adapter- then I'll pull it up through, and put the s-hook in place to hold it, and pull the wire out.

    42. Well, I watched a box opening of the Loong dragon series and decided I needed just one for the collection. I like them all, but the green boy is my favorite. Can’t wait to see which one I got!

    43. good luck!

    44. I got the dollzone yin-long on layaway but.... I am tempted to cave and get one of the dragon cuties in the meantime. I just love them so much. I can't wait for people to start sharing them here too!

I also have the penny's box centaur! I wish her lower legs were a little more poseable though - I miss my old centaur bodies from Luts.

    45. I finally broke down and joined a group order for the Loong dragons. I'll probably be joining a few more too!

    46. Got my Loong Dragon today and I got the blue boy! I’m so happy I got one of the boys and he is very grumpy as one of his horns fell off in transit. He’s giving me the evil side eye right now waiting for me to fix it. I have a human body that matches the face pretty well so I tried his head on it, and he looks great on a human body too.

      • x 4
    47. Oh wow the blue boy? He's one of my favorites!

    48. I was quite lucky to get a couple of the dragons as well, but for one of them, the horns broke off in delivery. Need to see about getting some glue to fix it.

    49. Oh it's a bummer to hear the horns are arriving damaged. Has anyone contacted the sellers or penny's box about it yet?

    50. Yeah, it’s a bit annoying when you have to fix something right out of the box, but at least it’s an easy fix this time. My pet peeve is having to fix clothes that develop issues when dressing your doll for the first time!

      • x 1
    51. Oh no that would be horrible! I'm much more likely to be able to fix the doll than clothes, especially when they're so small.

      • x 1
    52. No pics atm but my giant tax return order came in and I have SO MUCH serotonin right now from unboxing and dressing what is probably a heinous amount of these guys lmao.

One of my dragons did have a broken horn and an eye knocked out of place, but a wee dab of superglue fixed her right up. Delighted to find that the eyes have a tab on top that just click into place to hold them in the face - so much easier then eye putty.

      • x 4
    53. Oh dang, that is so cool! I hate fussing around with eye putty!

    54. Sorry for the bad picture but behold, the hoard (not including the three original run girls which were the gateway drug lmao). Cost me two hours and a charlie horse to get 'em all dressed but oh my god they're so frickin cute. the lil chicken wing leggies on the dragons are the best.
(obviously there's some non-Penny's ones in there but i'm ignoring that for now).

    55. My little birthday mermaid came! She's kind of floppy, so it's hard to get her to sit nicely, but she's sooo cute! Does anyone have any suggestions on what kinds of stands or supports work well for these dolls?
