Obitsu General Discussion - Part Two (60cm, 55cm, 50cm and 47cm)

Apr 12, 2012

    1. Thanks. If I can save up enough this summer I will soooo pick up a pair of the jointed hands for my girl. The color match looks great!

    2. Oookay... I've just found out I've got a problem with obitsu dolls... and the problem is that I DON'T HAVE ANY!! >.< Omgg they seem so easy to pose and hold poses! And don't make me talk about visuadoll, omg they're gorgeous!! I'm in love with Visuadoll Sora >.< Moegi is very pretty too, but I have a friend who really looks like her, and it'd be very awkward to have her at home, looking at me from a shelf, lol!! Right now I'm doing some research because the obitsu dolls I like the most are mainly hybrids. Angel Philia parts are so awesome! I would definetely use some parts if I had the doll. And jointed hands..<3 And well, I'm looking up some measurements just to know what resin heads would fit the Obitsu 50 body. I knooow I knoooow, I don't have the money, but dreaming is free :D
I'll be watching this thread, I'm really really interested ^_^

    3. Yeah, what's up with that?

      Yes they are and do.

Visuadoll girls: 50cm Obitsu bodies, Visuadoll boys: 55cm and 65cm Obitsu bodies.

Hope that's a friend you really like!

Many parts are easily interchangeable. You just have to watch the skin tones.

There aren't any vinyl jointed hands, but MSD resin ones can be made to fit. Again, gotta watch the skin tone.

Size-wise, heads with about a 7-8 wig size look good proportionally. Some of the Angel Philia heads go down close to 6 1/2".

      It can burn calories too.

If you have any specific questions just ask.

    4. <3 @K-2! Thank you very much for all the info! Your comments are always really helpful. I've been looking up 7-8 heads and I was wondering if the neck hole is important too. I've seen Obitsu 50 necks are 8,5 cm and the resin heads I've found that would look proportionate work with bodies that have 7cm necks (aprox). Do you think it's a bad thing? Or would it work anyway? Not that I'm already thinking of getting one... or I've already made resin match research... noo... sigh.. I'm afraid this is the beginning of my banckruptcy xD

    5. This is the tutorial for mounting resin heads on Obitsu bodies:
Dollieh Sanctuary โ€ข View topic - Resin Heads on Obitsu Bodies

The actual hole in the neck and head are not very important. Your resin head will have holes big enough to run the elastics through and the Obitsu neck piece hole will be plenty big to run the elastic through. What will be important is how well the top of the neck fits in the roundish hollow on the bottom of the head.

As long as the top of the neck fits comfortably in the bottom of the head, it just becomes a matter of aesthetics. Do you think the head neck proportions look good. Hair style and clothes will affect the overall look too. So dress her up and put some hair on her head before you pass final judgement.

      Yeah, you could be doomed.

    7. Omg the guitar is awesome!!! I don't play it, so I can't say if it looks realistic or not, but it does for me *w*

    8. So that's what you needed the jointed fingers for! Excellent!

    9. Has anyone ever tried converting these dolls into strung dolls? I have an Obitsu that I've changed up so much I've ended up with almost an entire body sans the inner armature.

    10. For me, getting rid of an obitsu's inner skeleton would be like trying to use square shaped wheels on a bike. Hahah maybe it's too exaggerated, but I mean, the posability is the best thing an obitsu has, in my opinion. And that poses are achieved thanks to that skeleton. However, I find very useful the mods to put a resin head, resin hands... Because it doesn't change the general mobility.
But damn, now I'm curious, how did you change your doll? Can she move well?

      • x 1
    11. I have! At least partly, and only because I have a bad habit of breaking joints. My 65cm boy is pretty fragile, so I might end up stringing the rest of him.
The elastic agrees with the hard vinyl, but it gets tricky with the soft torso

      • x 2
    12. Thanks for the info! I shouldn't have a problem with that, it's the old 3 part torso with hard vinyl. If it ends up being a problem, though, I can try reinforcing it from the inside with some Tamia epoxy putty.

    13. You can always leave the torso parts (neck piece to hip joint) in and string the legs from the hips down.

    14. I've been reading through this thread to see if anyone has an ai-chan head as a boy and or on the 55cm body? I'd really love a boy, I like the 55 body and the only head I really like from the junkyspot is the ai-chan one. It looks kind of immature though, just wondering how it would look as a boy and if it would even fit the 55cm body.

Oh no wait, scratch that, I also like the 60 303 head too. Does anyone have that head as a boy?

    15. There were three Visuadoll male sculpts on the 55cm body. This is a Visuadoll Yuto.

Not the best picture with the glasses and all, I know.

      .

Takeshi has been migrated to the 65cm body, but Ryou and Yuuto are still on 55cms. Sora and Moegi are on 50cms.

    16. He's lovely k-2 thanks for sharing. I tried to find the visuadoll heads but they seem hard to find. I did find the Luna head I really like a lot better after looking on the parabox site, much more mature. I'm torn between ordering between them and the junkyspot. I'll get the repainted Luna head, eyes and clothes from parabox, and if I get the body from them I'll sav even more money and it will be cheaper than getting the body from the junkyspot. But I kinda want to order the body from the junkyspot, I love ordering from them, and I've never ordered from parabox before. So not sure what to do.
I just read that the Luna head doesn't work with the 55cm body due to the neck hole being too small, but I think I read a fix for this somewhere.

    17. On Mandarake there is currently a used Yuto for 30000yen.
      ใพใ‚“ใ ใ‚‰ใ‘้€š่ฒฉ
And a brand new Ryo for 36800yen. They sell directly for Visuadoll so they new ones are list price, no mark up.
      ใพใ‚“ใ ใ‚‰ใ‘้€š่ฒฉ

If you haven't bought from Mandarake before it's a breeze. They have an English web site and ship internationally. You can pay with PayPal. No proxies, no extra fees.

    18. Thankyou! If never heard of visuadoll before. I have had obitsus over the years, but mainly the small ones, so don't know a whole lot about vinyl.

I think I may have settled on the Luna head, I'm going to order with faceup because I only do faceups on resin and haven't got a whole lot on vinyl. Haven't tried too many anime style faceups yet. Plus I just want a doll that's ready to go right now, I've got too many unfinished ones.

I still have a designer head needing a faceup here on a 60cm body.

Does parabox ship fast? I've gotten stuff from Japan before and they are top notch with shipping.

I should be able to fit the Luna head on the 55 cm body ok even though it says it doesn't fit?

I'm going to be annoying and ask one more question, do the 3 sets of hands
      50AC-FS004W Fit the 55cm body?

    19. I'm sorry, but I have to tell you that there is no fix for things that aren't broken! ;)
Check this picture of Obitsu neck joints:
The left one - for 55/60 cm bodies, the right one - for 40...50 cm ones.
Can you imagine the head that will fit to one of them and will be too loose or too small for another one?
      I cannot! :abambi:
I never have any problems with Parabox. Last couple times I have ordered something from them, they'd shipped items in 2-3 days. EMS and customs is adding time then.

I do not have 55cm body, so I cannot tell you will it fit or not, but should I have this problem, I would buy these hands and extra wrist joint, and if they not fit just file the joint to proper size.

    20. Hmm, that looks awkward the neck thing, but I did find a tutorial by the JS about how to switch the old neckpiece and the head will fit.

I don't know where i am, I'm not very familiar with vinyl, but for the longest time I've wanted a vinyl anime styled boy. I don't know if I'll get the 55cm body and put a different head on, or get the 48cm and use it as a boy since it's got the small chest. I would love to put a DD head on the 55cm body, but then there's colour matching and probably more neck fittings to figure out.

    21. The Visuadolls appeared on the scene a number of years ago. They had a TV show that aired in Japan. The dolls were the stars (with voice overs) and were manipulated like puppets. How many BJDs do you know of that had their own TV show! There were 5 characters (I think), 3 male, 2 female. The men used the Obitsu 55cm body and the women used the 50cm body. Best of all they used five completely new head sculpts.

Processing can take a couple of days and they only ship EMS internationally. It's about 3 days to my door in Chicago. Your mileage may vary.

It will probably physically fit. A lot of Parabox's determination of what fits and what doesn't seems to be based on aesthetics, not mechanical compatibility. Basically any Obitsu or Parabox head for the 40cm to 65cm bodies will physically fit any of the bodies in that range. With some of the smaller heads it can get pretty tight between the top of the neck piece and the back of the eyes, but they fit. It is then just a matter of your own personal tastes as to whether or not the head "fits" (Does the head look too small? Too big?).

No. Those will fit the 40cm to 50cm bodies, which all use the same wrist/hand part. For the 55cm body you want to look at the option hands for the 60cm body. Unfortunately there aren't as many.

Have you seen the Smart Doll boy Eiji?
      Smart Doll - Eiji Seiun
      Smart Doll - Crimson

Smart Dolls are vinyl with an internal skeleton like Obitsus and DDs. They are closer to DDs in size.

DD normal is a close match to Obitsu white skin.
The Mimiwoo tutorial for putting a DD head on the Obitsu body is probably the easiest around.

    22. Thankyou for the help, vinyl is new to me, at least the large size.
I ended up buying the 55cm body from JS, I would like to put a DD-07 head on it, but I also like the Luna head. I'm going to put an order in with parabox for some eyes, 55cm clothes and neck part so I might get the Luna head too. For now I'll probably make do with the prepainted Luna head, I'd love the DDh-07 but I don't really have enough muster right now to attempt an anime faceup.

    23. While you're ordering from Parabox, get yourself and extra neck piece for the 55cm body. If you ever get a second head (and it sounds like you might) you'll want it. It is 1000X easier to just pull the head and neck piece off of the body as one than it is to screw around changing a single neck piece from head to head. The couple of heads I swap out all have their own neck pieces.

    24. Seconding this. But K-2 did/do you ever have problems with the neck piece being far too tight a fit? I was terrified of having to yank and pull on my doll's heads to get the neck to pop out of the body every time. When I got my Kanojo of course she'd been on her body for years without being separated and I seriously screamed when I tried to take her head off for an asset upgrade and her neck wouldn't have any of it.

I actually ended up taking some sand paper to the peg that the neck plugs on to and sanded every one just a slight amount smaller, and now my heads can be changed out super simple. Just lightly grab her around the chest with two fingers of one hand and using two fingers of the other hand over both her ears, pull up while twisting gently and pop! Off she comes.

These days I tend to remove the head for dressing and undressing my dolls as they all have very long hair which just gets in the way of zippers, buttons and velcro strips, etc; and I also have a growing wardrobe of clothing that lacks any sort of "cheat" allowing it to be put on a doll body easily. Taking the head off without removing the wig means there's significantly less damage to the wig and also having the head safely away means that damage to that is also less likely.

    25. OK, I get what are you talking about. But there is not too big chance to get old style neck joint buying second hand Obitsu body, and on chance to get it with new body you going to buy.
I had DDH-07 on Azone/Obitsu body for a while, there is almost no difference in Volks normal skin and Obitsu white skin colors.
But you could wish to buy something like this adapter:
      DDใƒ˜ใƒƒใƒ‰ใ‚’ใ‚ชใƒ“ใƒ„ใ€๏ผ–๏ผใ€‘ใƒœใƒ‡ใ‚ฃใซ ๅค‰ๆ›้ฆ–ใ‚ธใƒงใ‚คใƒณใƒˆ ๏ผˆ่‡ชไฝœๅ“๏ผ‰ - ใƒคใƒ•ใ‚ชใ‚ฏ!
      for better head movability.

    26. This is a great thread for help, Thankyou. I got the Luna head with the old style neck thing, if I don't use it on my 55 boy I'll need it for my other 60cm body, I got it used and I realized it's missing the neck stopper thing. I'm sure I find something else to use as a stopper though.
I even got a cute 48cm girl outfit, because I'm still loving that 48cm girl.
For now I'll use the painted Luna head, I'd still love the DD head though, but I suppose I've spent enough money for now.

    27. Some of the neck vinyl of some bodies seems to be a bit more snug than others. The additional friction between the interior of the neck vinyl and the neck piece body means a bit more force is needed to remove the head and sometimes a bit more finagling to get the neck piece back in the neck vinyl, but this is still way simpler than uncoupling/coupling the head from the neck piece.
If sanding worked for you, great! It's all about making it more workable.

    28. After I put my Parabox order in thye emailed me to tell me the clothes I'd picked were out of stock. I'd ordered a top and pants set for the 48cm body I'm planning to get in the future. It didn't look exactly like this image, but I'm looking for something like this.
Does anyone know anywhere that sells 48cm girl and 55cm boy clothes? Or even what fits? I've read MSD fits the 48cm girl, but SD pants are too big for 55cm boy.

I can never get photos to show up here, so apologies for the link. It's not my photo but I fell in love with the doll and what she's wearing, I'd love to be able to find something similar.

    29. @LadyDeath, It's strange, never encountered this problem on Parabox site before, sorry to hear that. However, please Check this link, @roserising have placed a great list of clothes compatible with different Obitsu body there.

    30. Oh I'll have a good read of that Thankyou. Yes, they were out of the 55 boy brown pants, the hoodie and the girl 48 camisole set.
But last night I was searching and I found the Azone set I'd been looking for on eBay. It's sold out of everywhere like amiami and HobbyLinkJapan, but yay I was very happy. That means I'll have to buy the 48cm girl now.

    31. Hello all! I think this thread will be my new home. I'm just recently returning to the hobby now that I have learned how to hybridize. So I'm ditching resin bodies and my Obitsu 50cm girl is temporarily lending out her body. So far I've found that Doll Love Midsummer and Nichi fit. Now to try my last two girls. I'm focusing on proportions at the moment since every resin head is a different skin tone and in various yellowing stages it seems. XD;;

    32. I mostly just lurk here, since I am too busy for my dolls right now, but dammit I friggin love you K-2!, you have to be the nicest and most genuinely helpful person around, and you never get tired of answering our questions, no matter how many times you've answered them before. You are a legend! thank you :)

    33. You vinyl folks are worth it.

    34. Hello, just wanted to say that I've lurked here for ages and have gotten so much fantastic information! Thank you K-2!

My dream is to get a couple of the 55cm boys for my two favorite anime characters. When the time is right, I have all the information I need right here. Thanks!

    35. @K-2! That was awesome!

    36. Hello everybody. I come here in hopes somebody can help me out as I am getting really frustrated.

I have an Obitsu 48cm girl Mafuyu at home and another identical Obitsu 48cm body that has no head. I used it briefly with an SQ labs head which was a very good proportion for the body but I was bored of the head and decided to part with it. I really need another head for my 48cm body so that my Mafuyu can have a friend, but I cannot figure out if there are any other heads made by Obitsu or Parabox that look the same size as Mafuyu. She is listed on the site as the only sculpt recommended for "9 inch" sized wigs and that's what worries me.

Can anybody direct me to an image of head size comparisons of Obitsu/ Parabox heads which include Mafuyu?
While I'm here are there any DD owners who could tell me which standard DD heads are true to the 8-9inch wig size or where I could find accurate measurements of the standard DD heads? :...( I'd buy all the DD heads to find out but unfortunately money doesn't grow on trees. Any bit of help is really appreciated.

    37. *crawls out from under rock* IT IS ALIIIVE... well, more or less ;) I am just getting back into getting a bit of dolly time squeezed in between.
And of course fell back into bad old spending habits and bought a second hand Obitsu 60 body ;) (hey, it was a total steal:sneaky. and just needs new ellbows, underarms, and wrists, which with the postage to EU sets me back way more than planned .:chomp:)
While my Skadi is on an old style body, this is their "ball jointed" type. Are the knees on that type supposed to be quite loose? The doll can stand, but not e.g. hold her leg up straight, the knee will always bend. Can the joints be tightened somehow, in the manner as the ankles could? (of course, in my haste to get new arms and a neck piece for the Ai-chan head that is lying sadly in a box, I forgot that I could also order new knee parts...:doh)
Cannot wait for the parts to arrive to assemble :) (she came with a head with painted eyes, therefore no picture here yet)

    38. The ball joint knees can be tightened up. The half balls of the joint can be popped off like those on the ankles and there is a nut and bolt that can be tightened. Just be careful not to over tighten it. There's no worry about stripping a plastic part but if the joint is too hard to operate you might snap a joint part trying to move it. Tighten it a little at a time and try operating the joint a bit before you reassemble the leg.

      • x 1
    39. Thank you! :3 I'll refer to your great tutorial for the ankles for the operation ;-)
Might also try her with a resin head, but I am a menace with power tools.

    40. Hi guys! Is there any smart trick to put a wrist back to an forearm in Obitsu60? I just can't heat it to the level allowing to put the wrist back inside :/

    41. @Mysha what are you using to heat it? I don't have an Obitsu 60, I have a 48, but I had to heat the spare hand parts significantly in order to add them to a wrist piece to use on my doll. I used near-boiling water to heat the hard vinyl.

    42. I'm using hair dryier, but it seeams to have not enough power for this task. I will try with the water, thanks for a suggestion.

    43. Good luck @Mysha -- I hope it works! <3
