Obitsu General Discussion - Part Two (60cm, 55cm, 50cm and 47cm)

Apr 12, 2012

    1. Hi everyone! Quick question for you...

I'm interested in purchasing a few items from tatabjd, but I'm not sure which size will fit my Obitsu 60cm HYBRID Boys Body the best.

      1. http://www.tatabjd.com/en/goods.php?id=216
      Size options...
      - SD 13
      - LUTS DELF/AA/AS
      - SD 13 long leg/DOT/LUTS-senior

      2. http://www.tatabjd.com/en/goods.php?id=70
      Size options...
      - SD 13
      - LUTS DELF/AA/AS
      - SD 13 long leg/DOT/LUTS-senior

I've been trying to compare various measurements, but they're all pretty close and I'm starting to get confused, haha! Any ideas?

      Thanks guys! :)

    2. same problem here... sigh... my obitsu 50 cm is hard to buy clothes... i want to buy her pants but i dont know if msd will fit... and SD are far too big.... huhuhuhu :...(

    3. hum... I continue with my spam of questions, hope I am not getting annoying yet... :(

I was just wondering if there are any tutorials or guides on cutting up vinyl heads to open the eyes etc.? Is it dangerous... for example I know with resin that there is a lot of dust which can be carcinogenic and you have to use a dremel... it seems like with vinyl I should just be able to use an exacto knife and there shouldn't be any dust? Are there any risks with cutting it (apart from my own clumsiness with a knife! :P), or any tips that I need to know before I try?

    4. Ive completed my first obitsu 50cm (even if I had a little faceup error)

    5. True that. I have a Shinydoll head on a 50 cm Obitsu body, and it is a great fit. The resin/vinyl color match is very good, too. I also think proportionally it works really well.

    6. Your girl is gorgeous Avnia, the faceup looks great I don't even know what the error is. :D

    7. Avnia: She is so pretty :3 which head is it?

    8. Do you have his measurements? I am not sure what the measurements of an obitsu boy are, but I am sure if you get them you could compare them to Delf and SD13 measurements.

      Delf Measurements:
      http://www.denofangels.com/doawiki/index.php?title=Luts_Senior_Delf

This table has Volks sd13 measurements:
      http://descendingtwilight.webs.com/bjd-measurements.html

but I have no source for obitsu male measurements

EDIT - Somehow I missed that you already compared various measurements... I guess as long as the measurements are bigger or the same as the obitsu measurements it should be fine. I think the main areas to worry about are leg circumference, chest size, shoulder width and leg length. It is a fitted shirt so if it is on the bigger size it should be ok but if it is smaller then there is no way it will fit. The pants look like they might be stretchy? If they stretch you should have no problem...

    9. did you use the 40 cm head for your 50cm?

is the dollzone white near to the obitsu's white skin tone?

    10. Thank you for the detailed reply! Yes, I'm comparing the measurements that I have, but I can't seem to find certain ones, like the arm and leg circumferences. The measurements that I DO have, sometimes match in one area, but not in another. I mean, one size has larger hips and a smaller waist, while the other has a smaller waist and larger hips, haha!

Anyway, I'll keep looking into it. Thanks! :)

    11. The only real danger to yourself will be the sharp knife blade. There's really no dust or gases released in the knife cutting of vinyl that would require a respirator or special ventilation. The thickness if the vinyl will determine how fast the material will cut. With the actual thickness of the material behind the eyes varying and unknown there can be a natural unevenness to the cut. Moving from a thicker area to a thinner area unexpectedly can cause the blade to really take off quickly and uncontrollably. The biggest trick might be remaining slow and steady and staying on course. My blade of choice is a new x-acto #11. Cut slowly, resisting the urge to speed ahead.
Once your eye holes are cut you may find you want to bevel the inside edges so the eyes will fit farther forward in the eye holes. The tool of choice is an eye beveling tool, a round grinding ball the diameter of the eyes to be used. These either come on a handle for hand operation or on a small shaft for use with a Dremel or similar tool. Now you're talking dust and fumes and gases! Actually, the vinyl will bevel quite rapidly (a few seconds with the Dremel) so minimal gases and fumes will be produced but do take precautions to protect yourself from the bit of dust produced (a particle mask).

Parabox makes clothes specifically for the various Obitsu/Parabox bodies.

    12. This thread has been a such lovely source of information! ^^ Hrm I'm looking to put vmf50 Type-A thighs (the Sonico body) on the vmf00 50 Type-B (the muscled bodeh) butt/abs; does anyone know if that will fit (and look) good? And those parts would go on a 50cm obitsu body base.

    13. Ahh patience... totally not one of the skills available to me :P I will try tho ^O^ I have a practice head to try on first. :)

    14. I found a pretty cool hybrid, so I thought I'd share here ^^

      http://blog.goo.ne.jp/qp-kou-qp/e/d6e187a79a787b218d736a8a51d553ac
It's an obitsu50 torso/ obitsu47 legs hybrid, with those deliciously toned vmf50 type B abs! I think it looks pretty rad. :D
It seems the torso skeleton is obitsu 50, and the rest of the frame is obitsu 47..so no modding of parts required? :'D

**also, is anyone able to see the colour match between DOD normal (circa 2009) and a recent obitsu white skin? I would be very grateful m(_ _)m

    15. neat hybrid :O

Did you manage to figure out if you can combine the abs with the type-a things?

    16. Type A thighs appear to be available from Yamato. (Fire up your proxy!)
Type A thigh vinyl will fit, as will most other thigh vinyls. Also stock Obitsu 50cm thighs will work well.

Anna Marie (on the left) is a Type B with Type D thighs.
Hyacinth (on the right) is a Type B with stock 50cm thighs.

    17. She's a parabox Ai-chan

    18. Avnia: She makes me want my own Ai-chan even more!!!! Very pretty face up :D

    19. I agree I love her eyes, they seem kind of melancholy sweet to me <3

I ordered some vmf50 type-f legs off yahoo Japan, already planning my second obitsu ^^;; I feel like Sonico can't be happy until she has a sister, plus I always liked the base obitsu 50 so I really want one. Just got to decide on a head... I want another anime style one to match well with Sonico :3

    20. Funny how that works.

    21. Yay for more new girls :D I want Ai-chan first, and then vmf50 Nao as her big sister ^^

    22. [IMG][/IMG]

      just sharing

    23. thanks for sharing, I like her style she is very cool :D

    24. Serenade: thanks hehehe I am so happy she end up looking so cool hehehe

Merzedes: I feel in love with your doll gaze!! so strong!!

    25. hmm the photos have stopped showing? :(

I saw her yesterday though and she was gorgeous :)

    26. I´m sorry, I had problems with my flickr account. I fixes the links so that they are working now ^^.

Thank you so much Serenade and violetdepravity.
I´m gald you like my girl ^.^

    27. Mah new girly! Not really that new... I got her on Christmas >_>... I just finished her face-up last week though.

    28. aaaaaawn, what a cutie! I love her eyes! Well done!

    29. Thank you very much!!!

    30. neurocidic: Oh my!!! Such a pretty girl :3 which mold is she?

    31. Thank you so very much! She is the default head that comes with the 48cm body (Misuzu).

    32. neurocidic she is gorgeous :D I love what you did with her eyes, she looks so cute <3

What colour wig are you planning to give her? ;o I can't wait to see more of her, lol I feel so happy whenever I see pictures on this thread, they are so rare.

    33. Thank you so much! ^__^ I am so glad that you like her!! I am getting her this wig from Luts.

    34. ohhh nice, I love luts wigs, it will suit her ;o

    35. I have not owned a Luts wig before, so I am excited!

    36. I just ordered a second girl, a vmf-50 ami, to go with my super sonico :D

I am quite excited, uni holidays are soon so I will have some free time to sew them clothes. I also gave into weakness and ordered some cute shoes for them too, hehe :D. No clothes purchased yet.

My super sonico is almost done being modified, I am really happy with how she turned out, she needs a bit of sanding on the inside of the eyes, I want to order one of those ball eye-socket sander things from volks to fix her eye sockets.... so exciting, can't wait to finally post some pictures. XD

    37. Yea! More VMF's!

If you're planning on using that eye beveler with a dremel or some such tool, check the local hobby/craft or hardware store (or even online hobby stores). If you can find the right size it will probably be a lot cheaper.

    38. thanks for the advice, maybe i will take a trip to the hardware shop tomorrow xD

    39. I have a question for those familiar with Luts wigs. I saw mentioned on a few pages that it says to not leave the wig on the doll for too long as due to the chemicals in the wig staining can occur. Now, I know this normally happens with the head caps, but does anyone know if this is reference to the actual "hair strands" of the wig a well? Just curious, as my Ophelia is going to be wearing a dark brown wig from Luts and I normally just put the wig on and leave it there. :/

    40. This thread needs more bunny girls.

    41. onomatopeia: Wow!! Your girl looks so cute, reminds me of Christmas eve :)

    42. Wow so cute!!! and amazing manga storage!!! i hope i could do that too without getting scolded by my father:o

    43. First off, I don't have any Luts wigs so I can't speak for them. I do have a number of JPopDolls and Monique wigs. It was my understanding that the synthetic hair was colored as part of the manufacturing process and not dyed or colored after the fibers are made, so the color is an integral part of the fibers and not some material sitting on the surface. The only issue I've had with head staining is from the dyed wig caps the hair fibers are attached to, those caps having been dyed to match (or close to it) the color of the hairs. I don't think there would be a problem with the hair fibers, just the dyed wig cap.
Then again, I don't have any Luts wigs so I can't speak directly about them.

    44. Well, I have a Luts MSD wig and the quality is awesome. But can't tell if it might stain the vinyl heads because it's pale blonde and the cap is a very light colour. But I second what K-2 said, it's probably the dyed elastic edges that causes stain (I've had a ring-like stain around one of my doll heads) and also the snug parts of the wig cap that comes in direct contact with the head.

    45. That Bunny Girl is seriously adorable. I love the red.
I'm new, so I'm sharing doll pictures.
Haruka was my second bjd (1st was a 1/6th). Her name is Lily. She has a sister (Gretel, named Rosalie) who is off-topic because I inserted sculpey eyes in her that I painted.
      Anyway, here's Lily, pondering.

    46. I'm following you, lol!
      She's adorable!

    47. neurocidic as people have said, it isn't really the fibres that are the issue, it's the wig cap, the problem is that even if you have a plastic protective cap on your doll's head, generally it doesn't perfectly align with the wig or the wig will move around etc. and you will end up with a ring at the edge of the head cap.

onomatopoeia that bunny girl outfit is sexy, matches her perfectly. :D

EABNYC such a beautiful haruka, her hair is really pretty, I love the curls, it looks so natural/real.

    48. I was wondering, to anyone who has ordered off yamato-toys.com before, how long do they usually take to ship? Is it pretty quick, or more like 3 months like some other companies? I am just wondering because I ordered one with a blank head, and I don't know if I should try reserve a faceup slot yet or not... ;3

    49. I second that, I really want to know too! ^^

    50. very cool photo story violetdepravity :D

    51. thanks >.<... i edited the picture though... it became too small to see... i wonder why?

    52. not sure >.< I am not good with stuff like that

    53. Hello! I am currently visiting my friend in Japan and happened upon the lovely obitsus in Akihabara.. and this girl ended up coming home with me! >w<

She is the Visuadoll Sora Aoki and her name is Leighann :3

She looks kind of sad in this pic.. maybe because her bf is back home in the US? >>; He's a Luts Delf El and hopefully she won't look too awkward with him size-wise...

    54. Wow Your girl is totally gorgeous Merlili, so cute xD

    55. I didn't think Yamato shipped outside of Japan. I've always ordered through a proxy. Anyway, from the time the proxy placed the order to the time Yamato shipped was usually a day or two, when the item was in stock.
