Obitsu General Discussion - Part Three (60cm, 55cm, 50cm and 47cm)

Oct 13, 2016

    1. That worked! :D It wasn't easy - I almost had to boil the forearms. If I let the water to cool down for a few minutes, the vinyl couldn't get soft enough. I had to boild water three times.

As my expression of gratitude please accept this freshly taken picture of Isabelle :) It's refreshing seeing her being so girly and sweet ^_^

    4. Sorry it was so much work for you @Mysha ! I'm glad it worked out.
Isabelle is very beautiful! I love her hair. :aheartbea

    5. I really appreciate your help @AlisonVonderland! And it's good to know that vinyl takes no damage in boiling water. I hope it will be helpful for stains removal.

Isabelle came a long way from being a black knight to a white queen is a short time. Here are some images from last week.

    6. Muahaha, the body parts have arrived! She will have arms soon :-) I am not yet sure about the proportion of the Ai-chan head on the 60body... However, as I snatched what I think a DD head along with a Haruka head from classified ads, there will be no want for heads ;-) cannot wait for the heads to arrive!
(...sometimes I think I only buy things so I can wait for mail ^^“)

    7. She looks amazing i love the datk blue shade of hair

    8. Managed not to maim my hands too terribly installing the new ellbows, underarms, and wrists... and neck piece. Oh, the neck piece. Had to "unscrew" the 40 neck piece in order to get it out. I did not change the eyes after that, even though in the long run, she'll get other eyes again ;) Meet Momo on her new body (Obitsu60 ball jointed type)!

Made her a new sweater to make up for the "torture" ;)

    9. Oh I feel your pain assembling the body, @samseramsamsam ;) But Momo turned out cute and her eyes are really lovely :)

    10. I still want a Hime-Ane! She'll have to wait until 2018, though. Oh, and I can I get some Hime-Ane spam?

    11. Just placed an order for my very first Obitsu girl (of any scale) this evening! She's the 48 cm one. I just love her default head; it's exactly the shape that I wanted! I also ordered her two wigs, the 18 mm DIY eyes from Junkyspot, and a bunch of art supplies to paint her face/eyes. (I already have some spare fabric at home that I'm going to sew her first outfit from.)

My girl and her supplies are all going to arrive very soon, but I'm going to have to wait until my birthday on November 11th in order to unbox and play with her - I spent all my birthday money on her so she'll be the highlight of my day!

Although, I have to say that my anxiety levels have gone down considerably now that I've actually placed the order. The 48 cm obitsu girl was on sale for a very good price at JunkySpot and I was worried that they'd either end the sale or run out of stock, but in the end I was able to get her. Needless to say I'm the happiest "doll mom" in the world right now! :D

    12. Congratulations!
If you have any questions about the Obitsu body just ask, we're here to help.
      We expect pictures.

    13. Thanks K-2! :XD: I'm going to pic spam the heck out of her once she arrives and gets all decked out in her new faceup, clothes and wigs! She's going to be the most spoiled out of all of my dolls!

    14. Does anybody know which Obitsu / Parabox heads wear 8/9 inch wigs? I have Mafuyu and wanted to get her a friend with the same head size.

    15. Here's the Parabox head/wig chart:

    16. Thank you so much @K-2! I don't know how I missed that but I sure did!

    17. It seems Parabox moves the stuff on their site around monthly. It can make keeping track of things there challenging.

    18. My girl was originally going to arrive today, but the delivery got pushed back to Halloween. While I am slightly disappointed that I'll have to wait 3 more days, I do think having a Halloween doll is pretty neat.

If she really does arrive on Halloween, I'll have to give her an appropriate name. Some famous Halloween-themed female dolls are Tiffany (Child's Play series), Annabelle, and Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas). Or I could give her a Halloween name that's unrelated to dolls, such as Samara (The Ring) or Emily (Corpse Bride).

(Funny thing, when I suggested naming my doll after the titular Corpse Bride, my dad joked that my doll is a "Mail Order Bride". :sweat)

    19. Yes, their site navigation can feel a tad confusing. But I thought I was just imagining the changes. :whee:
Well, according to the chart of course Mafuyu has to be the largest head they make. But I ordered the designer head (I'll cut her eye holes out) and see if she looks good with Mafuyu.

Sorry to hear your doll got delayed by 3 days! I think that would be awesome to give her a name in honor of Halloween!

    20. Thanks! At least if I named her in honor of Halloween, I'd never forget her birthday! :whee:

    21. It's really convenient when your dolls have holiday birthdays! I got my very first BJD the day before Thanksgiving and strangely enough another year I also got a doll right before Thanksgiving. It's a very doll hungry time of year for me. :XD:

Who did you order @NarwhalGirl ?

Edit: Derp, it's on this page! I love the 48cm body. I hope you do too! They're very cute. :D

    22. @AlisonVonderland I know the feeling! For some reason autumn is a doll-hungry time of year for me too. I'm glad to hear that the 48 cm dolls are cute! That's what I was hoping for when I ordered her! <3

I've spent the past 3 hours sewing clothes for her. I made her an over-sized hoodie and a skirt! I'll probably make her some leggings to go underneath the skirt too! :whee: (I'm going to wait to post pics of her outfit until she can actually wear it!)

    23. I can't wait to see! I need to do some more sewing for my girl Aimee but I keep putting it off. :sweat Especially with fall here, she needs something to keep warm too.

      • x 1
    24. @AlisonVonderland Speaking of Aimee, I just took a look at her doll profile! She's so dang cute! She looks like she has a lot of personality already even though I know she hasn't told you much about herself yet. I love her outfit and glasses, they suit her so well! :D

    25. Thank you @NarwhalGirl :whee: I need to work on her a lot more but I'm crazy about her. She's a great first vinyl doll for me.

    26. Question - would a size 9 wig fit on a Misuzu head? The head is listed at a size 8, but I don't know if it's closer to 7/8 or 8/9. If the wig's too large, what could I do to help it fit more easily?

    27. You'll likely find the wig is somewhat loose. Exactly how loose depends on the specific wig as some will be tighter or looser despite having the same nominated size. Things such as ponytails or other hairstyles etc can make a wig tighter or looser than others.

If you find your wig is a bit too loose you can put a wig cap underneath it. I believe Parabox sell wig caps but you may also be able to find some elsewhere that fit. However be aware that wigs that are too oversized can make a doll look egg-headed and alien.

    28. Thank you for answering my question! I found your info to be very helpful. :3nodding:

    29. My girl finally arrived today! Her name is Ingrid and she is a very shy, soft-spoken, and anxiety-ridden daughter of a Frost Giant.

    30. Frost giants get a bum rap. Lovely color palette Ingrid.

    31. Thanks @K-2! Ingrid is flattered.

    32. Hi guys, does anyone happen to know of a place where I can buy wrist joints for the 40-50cm Obitsu bodies? It seems that Parabox does not have a listing for them and my search of Ebay, Amazon and Junkyspot has turned up nothing of use. Hoping I can find a place that doesn't require a deputy as I've never used one before and am not confident in doing so, but if I have to I will.

    33. They are probably temporarily out of stock (or the listing was accidentally omitted in their latest site re-do). I'd send them an email and ask about them, when they'll be back in stock and such. There are other places that list Obitsu skeleton parts but they usually don't stock them.
If you're really, really desperate you could go to the source, Obitsu. But they require a proxy.

    34. Thanks for your help K-2 both here and that other place, but luckily I won't have to brave the deep unknown of deputy services as I got word back from Parabox over night and they are available, just, as suspected, got pushed off the website during the update. They should be available to buy soon if not already. :)

    35. Sooo I recently acquired what I think is a DDH 01 head - does anyone know on which body it would look better, Obitsu40 or Obitsu60? ^^

(no pictures yet, sorry, event thought I should have taken some to scare ;) the heads I bought are currently taking a bath in dental cleaner to hopefully de-yellow a bit. They were cheap, but in a bit poor condition. The Haruka head is not too bad off after a rub down with acetonee, bit yellowed on the brow area, though. However, the DDH head is severely yellowed in spots and the eyes were glued in with... I do not even know what with. I had to carefully scrape it away even after using acetone, and there was no way of salvaging the eyes)

    36. Definitely a 40cm body! The DDH-01 (if it is indeed what you have) is a childish head and works better with smaller bodies. So either a 40cm or 45cm body would suit.

    37. @TheFluffyTankFairy seeing your answer about the DDH-01 can I ask - do you know how the sizes of different standard Volks DD heads compare? This summer I was wanting to make a hybrid Volks + Obitsu but could never find a chart of head sizes to help me out. :( Sorry for being such a vinyl noob.

Speaking of that failed project, thanks to K-2's help I found an appropriately sized head to make another 48cm girl.
Here's Aimee with her new buddy Tammy (blue hair). I'm really happy with the Designer 60 head. Opening the eyes wasn't that stressful, and definitely worth it for her adorable sad face.

I don't know if this head was supposed to be compatible with the 48cm body but I found I could cram the head on the neck piece just fine. Actually the mobility is way better than with the Mafuyu head, so I'm very happy!

      • x 2
    38. Here a picture of the new DD head (I think DDH 01?)

However, even though the Mimiwoo tutorial for attaching the Obitsu neck piece is quite clear, I rage-quit that for today... the scew does not find purchase, the little tube does not come out far enough :-( (without the spring, it works, but does not hold fast enough)

    39. Hi guys! I need some help (again).
I want to buy a lower arm skin for my 60cm body (60BD-F04W-G). I found this in-stock item on parabox site: Untitled Document
For some reason I'd prefer to order from Hobby Search, but I am no longer sure which part I should get.
The one which looks legit (Lower Arm Skin Parts 604 (1 pair) (Whity) (Fashion Doll) Obitsu Plastic Manufacturing Skin Parts) is sold out - what I find quite strange given that this is the only 60cm body left (not discontinued).
The other one - which is in stock - is obviously for the older body (judging from "F03" in its product code). Lower Arm Skin Parts 603 (1 pair) (Whity) (Fashion Doll) Obitsu Plastic Manufacturing Skin Parts
But both of them look quite similar. Do any of you know whether I can use "03" lower arm on my "04" body or should I rather acknowledge it is sold out and buy from parabox instead?

    40. If your 60cm has ball joint elbows, you want the 60RP-F04WS-27, which has the angled elbow (wider) end.
If your 60cm has the double joint elbows, you want the 60RP-F03WS-27, which has the straight cut elbow end.
They have a lot of different arm vinyls listed on the Hobby Search site. The F01 parts are for the earlier three part body and two part bodies with the hard vinyl busts. These bodies had very slightly shorter arms.
And yes, there are some listed as "sold out" and some listed as "back ordered". I don't think these listings are all up to date as all the fleshtone (aka natural) parts should be listed as "sold out", not "back ordered", as Obitsu no longer makes that skin tone. The same goes for parts for the 60cm double jointed arms and legs. Obitsu has discontinued those body parts too.

    41. I can officially join the discussion as I purchased a 48cm Obitsu from the Junky Spot! It should arrive tomorrow! I'm planning on making my DD's younger brother Lysander. Now I'm needing to do research on clothes for this odd size. All of my other dolls are odd sized, so I'm getting better at finding stuff.

    42. @kurogane Congrats! I think the biggest pain is finding clothes for our vinyl crew. You'll have to let me know if you find any great places, because I'm clueless when it comes to clothes and accessories (other than the obvious Azone/Obitsu brands and some Dollmore stuff). :XD:

    45. @Azael Thank you! And I will certainly share clothing finds.

@K-2! Thank you for the link! So much great information!

I watched a YouTube video on Obitsu and it was fantastic! I think I've been made a strong convert! Any new dolls are going to be vinyl. I am tired of un posable dolls, elastics, and being heavy.

    46. YES CHILD! YOU HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT! (cue James Brown and the gospel choir...)

The Obitsu body is also featured in dolls by Parabox, Azone, Yamato, Angel Philia, Real Art Projects, and Visuadoll. Each of these companies uses various Obitsu bodies (mostly the 48/50cm) and all of them have custom heads and parts that Obitsu manufactures exclusively for each. Looking at some of these other companies can broaden the range of head sculpts you can get and nearly all of these parts (of the same size bodies) are compatible without modification.

    47. @K-2! Thank you so much for the link! Apparently I never bookmarked it! Sadly, I don't have anything to add that isn't already listed, but when I do I will be sure to post about it! :sweat

And goodness, your girl looks like she belongs there as their new showroom model! Very nice!

    48. Awesome! I will check out each and every one of those companies! I love doing dolly research! :celebrate

    49. I checked out all of the different doll companies listed by K-2 and I'm really taken with Visuadoll. Especially the Ryou sculpt. I remember seeing these dolls in my Japanese Dolly Dolly magazine and as I couldn't read Japanese, thought they were resin.

On another note, my 48cm body is out for delivery today! I have absolutely nothing for it! Talk about an unplanned doll!

    50. I totally failed and bought the 45cm body and Ai Chan head from the JS sale today. I already have a 55cm Luna boy and a 50cm girl, but I really wanted a smaller cute anime boy.
I'm hoping he's easier to dress than my 55cm boy. Should he fit most msd stuff?

    51. I've been scouring the internet for answers but all I've come up with are a few links that don't work and photos that are no longer showing so thought I'd ask here.

I really like the Gretel head that is designed for the 60cm body however I'm not a huge fan of the aesthetic of the 60cm body. Has anyone tried that particular Gretel head on a smaller body? 47-50cm body perhaps?

I currently have just one Obitsu doll right now, a Mafuyuu head on a 48cm body. But I've always had a soft spot for the Gretel sculpt and I just noticed she has elf ears available too so am hoping to add her to my collection at some stage. I don't really find the Mafuyuu head that bobble headed on the 48cm body. From what I've read on the Parabox site, that head is about 1.5cm bigger than the Gretel head so I'm thinking it may look all right on a smaller body.

    52. Congratulations LadyDeath! I'm looking forward to seeing your boy! I think they can wear msd clothes, but not the slim mini, more of the chunky Volks size.

I found that my 48cm body can wear msd sized shoes. I did see a review about the body that said it can wear SD skirts but msd sized shirts. So it looks like I will try some SD pants and just shorten them to fit. I'm getting better at dressing odd sized dolls as this is the majority of my collection, lol.

    53. Parabox is always out of the 47cm body. It's driving me nuts. >->

    54. Thanks K-2 for the photo of your girl. That head looks quite good on the 50cm body. Do you find slight differences between the Gretel47 and standard Gretel heads other than the obvious head size? There's just something about the Gretel47 that I can't seem to put my finger on.

    55. To my eye, the Gretel 47 is similar but different to the regular sized Gretel, a resculpt but smaller in overall size. It seems like it was done by hand rather than the "3D scan/digital reduction/3D print method". I have a G47 but I haven't done a face-up on it yet. I look at it more as a completely different sculpt.
Since the G47 is smaller I don't know how well the pixie ears will fit.

    56. OK, I have a question regarding putting a resin head on the Obitsu 55cm body. The neck measurements are perfect, the rein match to the vinyl is practically perfect. I know I have seen instructions somewhere, but please help! I won't be doing this until I can save up for the body, but I would like to re read the info many times! Thank you!

Oh, the head is a Doll Family A Anthony head which is anime style. A really nice resin head with thick resin and the head cap fits with no line. Amazing for only $25!

    57. My obitsu 50cm girl Maxine has small stains on the bottom of her foot. Anyone know of a good method to erase them? Also any good method for general cleaning?

    58. Dollieh Sanctuary • View topic - Resin Heads on Obitsu Bodies

    59. Depending on the type and size of the stain you can first try scrubbing with a dish detergent (like Dawn) and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. If this doesn't remove the stain it has probably already penetrated the vinyl and you'll have to call out the big guns.

Stains on vinyl are generally not just on the surface. The constant pressure of an article of clothing against the vinyl, such as at an elastic waist band or in your case a shoe, can allow dye from the clothing to transfer to the vinyl. With vinyl being relatively porous the stain will spread not only to the sides of the contact area, but also deeper into the vinyl.

You will probably need to apply a good stain removal agent such as Twin Pines Remove-Zit. This Twin Pines product has been formulated by a chemical engineer specifically to be used on vinyl dolls to remove such stains. There are other home remedies which can give you some success but may also cause long term damage to the vinyl such as hardening, cracking, and discoloration. Remove-Zit was engineered to do the most good and the least harm to your precious vinyl.
