Obitsu General Discussion - Part Three (60cm, 55cm, 50cm and 47cm)

Oct 13, 2016

    1. It’s the international shipping that gets you.

I’m so upset.. I don’t know how to handle my new doll without breaking parts like I did today.

I cracked the right side of the chest part where the arm tube goes in and cracked the left side of the hip waist joint resulting in both becoming floppy instead of stiff and firm.

    2. It took me 6 hours to fix GONN 2.0’s cracked joints with a hot glue gun. What took me the longest was installing her head by disassembling the neck joint and reassembling it behind her eyes.

I won’t disassemble her unless it’s absolutely necessary. I‘m glad I don’t have to buy new parts! I’m so happy!

Meigana (GONN 2.0’s new name) is ecstatic about her repaired body as well!

    3. I can't help it, I have an Azone/Obitsu addiction!

This is #4 from the Iris Collect series, my 2nd Rino, who I've named Beryl!

    4. Awe, Bery is super cute! I love her rabbit ears and eyes. The little pockets on her jacket is such a cute touch to her adorable outfit!

    5. I left a dark dress on Meigana for too long and now she’s stained all over! What do I do? How do I remove color transfer?

    6. Ouch! I'm so sorry about Meigana! This product has been reported to do well with most stains. I've not had to use it on my Angel Philia ladies, yet. I've used it on a Ken doll's face and it did fine.

    7. Remove-Zit? Can it remove dried paint and faceups too? I’ve seen a majority of positive reviews from other vinyl doll owners so I think I’ll buy it!

    8. Possibly? I'd ask some that do their own faceups on vinyl to know for sure. I learned about it from K-2! because it was in a book he recommended, I only tried it on that one Ken doll that I got second hand. It worked, but it's suppose to be less potent as it ages, so I'm not sure my tub would be good anymore. I just have Angel Philias, so I'm doing my best to preserve their factory paint. I have some blank heads that I've not done a faceup for yet... I have heard some bad things about using acetone, and it's known to not be chemically compatible with many plastics, so I do avoid that on my own dolls after I learned.

    9. Oh no.. I’ve been using nail polish remover to try to remove staining and yellowing from my doll! I won’t be using that anymore!

In other news, I ordered new parts and joints for Meigana along with body tights, soft pastels, paint and a new wig from Parabox for 15k JPY today.

I feel so embarrassed saying this.. But I admit I made impulsive financial decisions in beginning this hobby. So far, I have spent $730 within 2 months for my doll expenses. Who wouldn’t be angry at someone without a stable income spending this amount of money on doll items?

I hope that it isn’t too late to turn these expensive lessons into something positive and possibly financially and creatively rewarding in the future. I want to make props to sell, but I worry I’m a lost cause in this situation and should quit before it goes any further.

    10. How do I buy from Obitsu? This is probably the dumbest question ever, but I just got into Vinyl and I want to get a boy to be Link, because I have a big, busty DDdy to be Zelda and I legitimately have no idea about anything. Help?

    11. Obitsushop or Parabox will work but have differing costs and items. There are more shops to buy Obitsu bodies but these are the two I remember the most.

      ドールやフィギュアの素体、キューピー人形の販売|obitsu shop|オビツ・ショップ

      [PARABOX NETSHOP]

ObitsuShop only ships throughout Japan but accepts international orders from proxies. ObitsuShop sells their 50cm bodies with two color choices of White (normal) and limited Super Whitey (bright white) in something translated into Semi-order where you have a choice of heads, eyes and bust sizes. They sell replacement parts for their discontinued/terminated bodies if they’re stocked.

Parabox doesn’t require a proxy and ships through DHL for 2,000 yen. Parabox sells a wide range of Obitsu doll bodies, wigs, clothing, and Parabox-exclusive heads on their site. I got Meigana’s Luna D head from Parabox! I love it so much! The price? Ehh.. not so much. :...(

Both sites sell new Obitsu bodies for 22k JPY with shipping costs. Your shipping costs may be a bit different if you go through a proxy to ObitsuShop. I don’t know much about it because I’ve bought items through Parabox, not ObitsuShop.

I won Meigana’s Obitsu 50 body through Yahoo Japan Auctions and bought my Obitsu 60 body from Rakuma.

    12. @Rneiro Acetone does have its use in faceup removal, just not generally as your first go-to. For that, I usually use rubbing alcohol. But sometimes, I encounter paint that is being stubborn about getting off, and I'll break out the acetone. It'll even remove sealants that say they can't be removed. Early experimenters supposedly tried soaking their doll parts in acetone and found that it would eventually damage the plastic. But just for taking off a faceup you shouldn't worry too much, since it evaporates so quickly.

    13. I’m soaking the doll head that I messed up with ink in a bag of 91% + 71% isopropyl alcohol.

I got off some white paint over the ink using 91% isopropyl alcohol and a cotton ball. I used 91% alcohol at first then I washed it off and combined it with 71% alcohol. Was it a bad idea to do that? Probably. I hope it removes the stubborn black ink from my doll head!

It removed a trace of ink but not much else. I’ll update you all on the results later.

    14. I couldn’t get the pesky black ink off the head! I scrubbed it with hot water and soap and will wait for the Remove-Zit stuff I ordered to arrive.

    15. I’m thinking about buying Dolly Pop’s 50cm 3-piece bust, abdomen and lower trunk set, but wanted to hold off until the Parabox stuff I bought to be delivered.

Here are some of my questions about the DP50 3-piece set:

Do you own a part or more of the set?

If so, how is the fit on your Ob50?

Do the parts feel firm in your hands? Do they feel thin?

How is the color match with the rest of your doll’s limbs (stock or not)?

I’m sorry for bombarding this thread with all of my questions. I’m an overzealous first time vinyl BJD owner!

    17. My new Parabox Obitsu package arrived today! Putting Meigana’s body back together with the new parts I ordered is way harder than what I expected. I shall update you all later on the results.

Meigana’s nickname for me is “Miss Frankenstein” because I keep disassembling and reassembling her when things don’t look right!

    18. I know someone on Doll Dreaming brought one of those and made a thread about it, you might want to check there. (It's a mostly vinyl forum.)

    19. Yes, I already read over the "Dolly Pop! DP50 3-piece set" thread and have an account on the vinyl doll forum DollDreaming.

I assembled Meigana again and now her hips, leg and thigh joints are floppy/loose and not holding their positions. How do I fix this? These are all new replacement parts but none are performing properly!

Edit: I’m sorry for sounding irritated and aggressive in this post. I’m frustrated that I’m having such a difficult time getting my doll properly functioning.

    20. Do the armature parts fit together loosely without the outer pieces? If so, some suggest putting a layer of tape on the pegs.If they are not loose without the outer pieces, the pegs may not be engaging all the way.

    21. Okay, I got one leg in right. I forgot what I did to get it in correctly so I’m back to trial and error. I hope I don’t break the hip joint like I did last time..

    22. I might have found the problem. When replacing the thigh/hip ball joints, I had to wiggle and coerce the part out to replace it.

In replacing the ball joint, I unknowingly flattened inside of the leg joint and rendered it unable to hold the thigh joint in place. This resulted in the thigh joint shifting back and forth when I attempted to connect it with the thigh joint holder.

I used a blow dryer and my hands to create a decent ball joint border that is holding up the ball for now but can be improved later.

I’ll see if this fixes my leg floppiness issue and will update you all again in the morning. Or soon if I can’t sleep.

    23. There's a ring on the hip that needs to come over the receiving end. You push it towards the torso to be loose, and pull it towards the foot to be tighter. Sometimes things are much easier when you are well-rested. I find I get frustrated very, very easily if I try to do much of anything that takes focus when I'm tired.

    24. This is my last update for tonight.

I got Meigana’s legs and internal skeleton parts working properly! I stuffed tissue paper in between the leg wall and thigh joint to keep it stable in order to insert the leg tube completely into the hip peg. I then used rapid horizontal and vertical movements mixed with brute strength to get the leg into the hip firmly.

The less-problematic leg needed to be coaxed in by holding her leg and rotating it along with vertical and horizontal movements to jimmy the leg tube into the hip peg.

I didn’t break or crack any parts during my operation and will not disassemble Meigana unless it’s necessary!

It was my curiosity that caused me to break Meigana’s parts in the first place!

Miss Frankenstein needs to sleep now.

    25. My RemoveZit was delivered today! I made the horrible decision of smelling it and got an incredibly pungent whiff of what smells like vinegar and baking soda multiplied by 100. Most of the time, I can’t breathe or smell out of my nose but the smell was.. BLECH!!!

I applied RemoveZit all over my yellowed doll limbs, Meigana’s body and my black ink-stained test head. How long do I need to wait to remove this stuff?

    26. I've been using Remove-Zit for about 10 years. I've never used it on yellowing. For straight up clothing/dye transfer stains I'll leave it on for a couple of days at least.
Darker stains can require multiple applications.

    27. That’s why I haven’t been getting the results I was hoping for! I thought I was applying it incorrectly, so I kept removing and re-applying it after a day.

I am having trouble keeping both of Meigana’s hands/wrist tubes from coming out when rotated or adjusted. Meigana’s hands and wrists were not like this when she arrived. I suspect her wrists loosened after I disassembled her for the first time. How do I fix this?

02/17/21: I decided to buy Dolly Pop’s DP60 dynamite bust + 50-60 plump thighs + 60 abdomen (to prevent gapping) for Meigana.

The arm holes require trimming so Meigana’s arms will fit and maintain their functionality. The neck needs trimming to fit a 50cm neck joint.

    29. Is that an Angel Philia doll? I haven’t seen an AP doll with a pear shaped body before.

    30. Yes she is. I think she has the same body as my AP girls but with the small bust. My AP girls look to mature because of her huge bust. But when I change her huge bust to the small bust their body shape looks like that.

    31. Ai is so cute. I think I have seen her on Instagram before. She looks familiar :) I love her outfit and congrats on the new girl :)

    32. I just ordered a 40 CM Obitsu body for a head that I have. I hope it fits. I know the head is obitsu, but I don't remember which one it is, lol.

    33. The head should fit on both a new and old style neck joint piece. I have a new style neck joint so I’ll tell you what I did.

I got this idea from Dolliehsanctuary when I was struggling with the installation of my new style neck joint piece!

I opened up the doll’s head cap, disassembled the new neck joint using a screwdriver, positioned the neck joint locking collar on the U-shaped part of the neck joint holder. The neck joint locking collar’s “teeth” should be aligned.

Then I reassembled it making sure it stayed aligned and tight without stripping the screw in the center of it.

The head should be able to move back and forth and side to side firmly with little to no resistance.

K-2 knows more about this than me, as it was from his post and other users’ replies I got my solution from!

Here is the link to one of the tutorials I read.

    34. Talking to myself about the AP small bust option made me remember I have a winter outfit I haven’t even try on Dulce because only fits on her small bust. I was to lazy to switch the bust but I finally decided to do it. Let’s say her bust shrink because of the super cold winter :p

    35. No wonder! AP thighs are really curvy and influence how, well, everything looks on its user!

    36. Yes, two of my girls are hard vinyl so her curves don’t look that big. But the one with the soft vinyl once I stuff the legs with cotton it made the things look bigger :)

    37. I’m exploding with ideas on what I’m going to do when my DollyPop stuff is delivered! I ordered 50cm-60cm combined plump thighs, dynamite 60cm busts and 60cm abdomen.

I am beating myself up for shipping through FedEx instead of DHL due to severe winter weather and COVID-19 vaccine delays in their Memphis FedEx Express hub!

I have a question about AP and Obitsu arm and shin part fits. I went on FaithZ to look at AP soft skin arms and soft skin shins to put on Meigana for increased flexibility and appearance.

Will AP arm and shin parts fit on an Obitsu 50cm doll?

I read APs are 48cm, so replacement parts sold would be for specifically 48cm dolls. However, I saw that some AP arm and leg parts have Obitsu 50 in their descriptions.

    38. The arms would definitely fit. The shin are going to be smaller. I put together an AP body in parts and I used the obitsu 50cm skeleton frame. The arms fit perfectly, but the shins where a few cm smaller than the skeleton. I will have to trim it down.

Here is the link to the picture if you want to see it. It is NSFW Almost done :)

    39. Thank you! I am also bouncing back and forth between both threads.

I tried looking at the picture on Flickr but it showed a black box instead. I checked the AP thread and viewed the picture on here. I caught the missing 2 centimeters between the frame and shins. All I have to do now is wait for my DP parts to arrive so I can get an accurate color match for the AP parts I want to buy.

    40. I forgot to order a 60cm DP waist part! I didn’t know I needed to order one until now. For now, I can only use the plump thigh parts, but not the 60cm dynamite bust or 60cm abdomen!

I decided to check DollyPop again to see the plump thigh part outlined with a separate 60 waist part. :sorry

      I’m ordering a 60cm waist part now..

    41. Most of the 45 to 60cm scaled heads made by Obitsu for their own dolls or for others companies' dolls (Parabox, Azone, AP, etc.) fall within a tight size range so you should be fine.

    42. If i posted a picture would someone here be able to tell me? XD I got it off the junkyspot a long time ago, it was the last one they had available.

    46. Guess what?! My Dolly Pop parts came in! I have ordered the 60cm waist to complete my set. I did my first part modification on the 60cm DP Dynamite bust today.

The cuts I made to the bust shoulder area definitely weren’t perfect but at least Meigana’s new chest fits! Meigana’s body is a lot fuller, but her waist area is missing.. I won’t take any pictures until I have the matching 60cm waist along with 60cm clothing.

    53. @Rneiro That's great news! Here's to Meigana being all fixed up sooner than later. I'm very happy that you were able to locate all the bits you needed for your dolly.

    54. I got a notification that my package has already been processed, sorted and cleared through customs in Cincinnati! I like using DHL, but it’s expensive to have as your go-to shipping method.

I’m so excited to complete Meigana’s DP60 set!

I was nervous modding my freshly unwrapped DP Dynamite Bust to fit Meigana’s arms, frame and neck. Why? Because once you cut or clip vinyl, it can’t be undone! This part modification wasn’t pretty or smooth, but it isn’t supposed to be pretty or smooth for your first time!

    57. tl;dr: DP 60cm 3-piece set installation was easy to put on Obitsu 50 frame with trimming and widening of the arm holes on the DP60 Dynamite breasts. DP 50•60 plump thighs were an absolute nightmare to install, gave up trying to install them. Meigana can only fit clothing made for Dollfie Dream Dynamite bodies. Can Obitsu 50s fit DDdy clothing? What clothing will fit an Obitsu 50 outfitted with 60cm upper parts and huge breasts?

I condensed the text below as much as I could.

Warning! Lots of text below! Only proceed if you are ready for ranting and raving below!

Okay, so I was easily able to modify and slide the upper 3 60cm parts on my Obitsu 50 frame.

I couldn’t install the DP 50•60 plump thighs were a complete NIGHTMARE to work with on an Obitsu 50! I gave up trying to install them nearly a week later and put the old thigh parts on Meigana. The darn things would not stop popping off of her hip, leg and knee joints even with the slightest of movements! I think those thighs are best made for 60cm lowers and not 50cm lowers as advertised. First, you see a curvy upper body and then you look down and see straight legs and thighs that do not "work" with the upper body. I wish soft curvy thighs compatible with 50cm Obitsu frames and also happen to closely match the DP skin tones existed.

Meigana can only fit 60cm clothes. It took a lot of stretching and tugging to get Meigana into her 50cm body stocking. Will DDdy clothing fit her?
