USA New York City Meetup

Jun 7, 2021

    1. Hello all ~ I'm just re-entering the hobby after MANY years away and wanted to introduce myself quickly! I live on the UWS. I won't be able to make tomorrow's meet up but I will definitely be at the next one <3

    6. Also these are the subway trains that go into 3rd street and 53rd avenue.
      Subway: 6, E, M, 4, 6X

    7. I'm on the bus now heading into NYC. It'll be a fun day in the city. The Santa Stumble is happening today.

    8. Yeah, Santa Con. I was thinking about stopping by Cassidy's for Irish breakfast before the meet, but I don't think today's the day. Maybe next time.

    9. I’m on the train now, and I have some cream puffs for those that want to partake. See y’all in a few hours!

    10. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be going to the meet today after all. The NJ Transit train was late, and I could see the lateness timer tick up in real time as I was watching one of the monitors they have at the station. Even after the train was already late, it was quantifiably getting later. This is what I was afraid of when NJ Transit changed their tickets from never expiring to expiring after 30 days. I don't like waiting around for the train, but I used to be able to call a mulligan and use my tickets in the future. This time, I'm out about 30 bucks. It's not world-shattering to me, but that's a sting I don't want to feel again. It's really disappointing because I really enjoy the doll meet. I strongly dislike the travel it takes to get to the meet. I can't emphasize the word tolerate enough when I say that I tolerate being on the train, and I won't wait around for it. I really, really dislike the train. It's a me thing, but I am me. I don't know if I'm ever going to go to the meet again or even NYC in general, and that really sucks. I hope everyone has a good time today and into the future. Happy holidays to you.

    11. I'm here. It was really easy. I just exited through SE exit next to Dunking Donuts and up the escalator. I'm at the top of the down escalator.

    12. I'm heading out soon!

    13. I am here )) going up but not sure where)

    14. Merry Christmas all!

    15. I'm currently hoping to give it a shot this Saturday. My NJ Transit tickets from last month are still good for a few more days, and the weather forecast keeps getting better and better.

    16. Remember take the "E" and exit through SE exit next to Dunking Donuts and up the escalator. See you there.

    17. I'm walking from Penn Station

    18. Me too, near 96th Street Station. Hi neighbor! Anybody else close by? I'd love to make some doll pals in the neighborhood!

    19. Hi everyone, snowing and bitter cold in my area won’t be coming today. Hoping to make the Feb meet!

    20. Hey there! Not super far from that area.
I'd love to try to attend the Feb or March meet-up if I'm not too shy, one of my new-year's goals was to meet some doll people IRL. This sounds like such fun!

    21. I'm planning on making the trek up to NYC on Saturday weather permitting! Hope to see some of y'all!

    22. I'll be there too. It appears that the snow flurries will begin tomorrow evening. So even I should be good getting back home.

    23. I'm unsure if I'll be there. I'm not excited about getting stuck on a train getting out of NYC if the precipitation messes things up. I don't want to leave my dad to handle the snow alone, too.

    24. I'm on the bus heading into NYC now. See you guys soon.

    25. I'm sorry I missed everyone yesterday. I feel dumb. The weather wasn't quite what they were making it out to be.

    26. The end of the day was hectic. My journey home was extended by more than 2 hours. Traffic in NJ really bit the big one.

    27. Maybe I had the right idea after all

    28. What's the setup for mobility disabled folks in the new location? I'd like to do March or April but I'm mobility impaired and need to know the layout. Is there an elevator?

    29. There is a person at the desk in front of the elevators. There is also an escalator that brings you right up to us.

    30. So long as there are working elevators I'm okay but I can't take escalators without help. Walkers and escalators aren't a good mix. I've fallen a couple of times, badly, trying to navigate those.

So where is it exactly? I'll look it up and see what I can find. Probably will attend in April.

      TY!

    31. I'm not sure if you are coming in from the subway level, however I would imagine there should be an elevator either from the subway to street level. or if you exit next to the Dunkin Donuts takes you into the correct building. There is usually a person standing there that will guide you and the rest room which is on that level. If you are coming on the street level next to the Starbucks, you will see the escalators in front of you. On the other side of them is a "Front Desk" with a person stationed there. The elevators are next to him. We will be on the next floor up. It is an open mezzanine style. You should be able to see us from anywhere on the street level. We will be at the top of either escalator. The elevator comes up between the 2 sides. i shoot to arrive between noon & 1pm. Most of the people start to show up after 1:30pm.

You can post a note here. I have my phone open the DoA. And a few others do as well.

      See you there.

Not sure how you are getting to the building, however, I come into PABT between 11:00 -11:15 and grab a snack. then I take to subway up. If you would like to meet there a go up together?

    32. Regarding the Lexington Ave./53rd Street E/M subway station that's right next to the new meet location, I just took a quick look at my map. It is noted as handicap accessible. I don't know first hand if that means that it's got an elevator, but I guess it's likely that it does. The 5th Ave./53rd Street station that I used to go to for years does have an escalator, I don't remember seeing an elevator at all, and it's not listed as handicap accessible. I guess the presence of an elevator equals handicap accessible.

    33. Can anyone point me towards the actual location of this building? Is this the one that's near Columbus Circle or a different one? I'm really confused as to where I'm going. Actual address would be good. I will figure it out from there. TY!

    34. 875 3rd Ave, far side of the upstairs space on the 52nd side

It's further east than Columbus Circle.

    35. Hello everyone I will be there on Saturday & bringing some heads to sell.

    36. Was I imagining things or did the date change to 3/8 from 3/15?

    37. It moved! A number of people couldn’t make the 15th and we have friends who came in for the con who could do the 8th but not the 15th.

      • x 1
    38. The address is: 875 3rd Ave it is on the corner of Lexington Ave./53rd Street E/M subway station.
I come into PABT about 11:15. If you would like to meet there and go up together that will work too.

I just called them, and they have an elevator that can be accessed either from the subway level or the 1st floor (street level).
      Hope to see you there.

    39. Got it. Sadly won't be able to make the 8th but will see y'all in April.

I was just checking because I told a few people who weren't aware of the meetups that the next one is mid-March, so will make sure to let them know of the date change. Thanks, and thank you all for organizing such an incredible con!

      • x 2
    40. Thank you for letting them know! Hopefully they can make their way here to our date list.

And thank YOU for coming to the con. Honestly, I’m still exhausted and sore and catching up on sleep but every time I see a pic from the con I feel so happy and satisfied that we were able to build this wonderful thing for the community.

    47. Hi ya'll quick q, I noticed the April meetup is on the 19th, which is the 3rd saturday of the month instead of the 2nd, is there a reason we went with that day? Just curious :)

    59. Hi all, I’m interested in starting to meet new people in this hobby as I’ve been in it for quite a bit of time, about 10 years I believe but as of recent have done very little in the doll-scape. Was wondering if I was allowed to attend a future meet, and also how people pack their dolls for travel in the city (or any trips in general!). For reference, I live in NJ and have attended about 2 local meets many years back.
