I made it back to the New York City doll meet today. Thank you for not being totally awful, NJ Transit! It was a nice time at the new location. I like the new location a lot. We had a lot of fun and even restrung a couple dolls. I brought my Iplehouse SID Eva, and everyone brought a bunch of great dolls. I was so happy to see a couple Licca-chan dolls, too. I don't think I've ever seen one in person before. Here are group shots and highlights. For the full set of photos, follow the link to my Flickr album for the meet. There was a beautiful nude doll, a mature tiny, and I put those photos behind the moderate filter on Flickr. It's their house, so whatever. The photos aren't naughty, just a bit nudie, so heads up in case you don't want to see them. If you're not logged into Flickr or if you have safesearch on, you won't see the photos. Wow, the meetup's gone up in the world -- literally! How are the new digs, are the tables big, how's the staff patrolling the space taking the clustering hobby? (Can you move tables? is the space crowded?) I took a fast look at the address - lol, does every building in NYC have its own Starbucks? (How's the food access otherwise?) Quite a schlep to the east side for the folks arriving to Penn and by bus and over that midline ridge Manhattan has-- I actually worked on 3rd and 55th and 54th manymanymany moons ago -- Dolls - yes, every group of lace-frocked, bonneted ladies must have a few Tall Austere Divine Gentlemen present, eh? Whoever brought that - playhouse? Theatre-front? - was feeling very ambitious that day!
Thank you, Hobby The new location is pretty nice. It kind of reminds me of how cozy the spot across from the IBM Building was before it was remodeled, but there's a bit more room than that place used to have. The tables are decent, I'd say. I didn't have any complaints. Some of them have the tiny grate holes which could make certain situations difficult such as heels without stands or the Smart Doll antenna stands, but not all of the tables were like that. The staff was unobtrusive, and I saw one table being moved. I don't know if it's frowned upon, but nothing bad happened. There weren't too many people coming through, but people do have to come through because the down escalator is by where we were. I guess there's a possibility that we'd be on the other side of the upstairs area which would put us closer to the up escalator, but that would be the flip side of the same thing, I guess. I didn't really go looking around in or around the place, so I don't know what the food access is like. It has its own Starbucks? I honestly didn't notice. I should give the place a walkthrough next time. It looks like there's a below ground area, too. I walk to and from Penn Station. It wasn't too much different from walking to the IBM Building. I think it's a little bit more east than the IBM Building would be north from say 53rd, but it's not much of a difference. The good thing about coming from Penn Station if you're taking the subway is that the Lexington/53rd E stop is practically right next door to the meet. It was more of a distance to get to one of the 53rd stops from the IBM Building. The dolls were indeed awesome! Very nice ladies, gentlemen, and everything inbetween I don't know who they are on DoA, the one who brought the drink stand. (Check out the pic on Flickr. You can zoom in and see the menu of drinks in the back.) It was quite adventurous to bring it, but it was quite the sight. It's a big hit on a doll prop group I'm a part of on Facebook. They made the closeup pic the banner for the group. I feel so honored!
Hello hello!! We hunted down the space in December, it's perfect-- Starbucks AND a Dunkin, and after we gave the security guards some baked goods, they're extremely friendly, we're good to move things as long as we're not too loud or messy. We basically get the entire half of the second floor, it's a lot quieter with fewer people walking through. Food access is meh, no more Dainobu for snacks but there's more stuff on the side-streets because we're not in the middle of offices. I know it's far but could we possibly hope to see you in the upcoming months?
