Hi all! Juuhachi Go here. I am actually pretty knackered right now (it's pretty late in Italy at the moment), but I was eager to introduce myself here. During the last 4 or 5 years, I finally yielded to my lifelong desire to collect dolls and sew for them. Long story short, 25 years ago my late grandma sewed my porcelain doll a beautiful coat from scratch and I was thrilled, but she always refused to teach me, so I taught myself now that I'm an adult. I suck at it, because I am impatient and work a draining office job I hate, so I have little time to get better^^ but I try to make things with love, at least. Back in 2007, one of my best friends started collecting BJDs and I fell in love with them. I was 17 and I had decided I would own one someday, when I'd be a financially stable adult. I'm almost 34 today, and I have become a lot more serious in my search once I got a permanent contract... except I didn't like any doll in particular, especially because the prices made me feel so guilty. Until I found MYou doll. My friend introduced me to their dolls, and when I saw 1/6 DouDou a few years ago I thought "Okay, that's her!". I waited for a better financial situation and I bought her in December 2023, so she's arriving in hopefully a couple of months... AND THE WAIT IS KILLING ME!!! Other than collecting mostly Paola Reina and Rainbow High (but I do have a BJD wishlist, strictly locked to six), I write stories, read books, manga and comics... even though I have to say the doll fever is currently consuming me and all my creative effort is aimed at fleshing out DouDou's... or rather, Delphine's character. Please tell me that things get better after doll #1 arrives XDDD IS IT ALWAYS THIS BAD? I want to believe I feel like this because of the almost-20 years of waiting. I feel very proud of myself for actually gathering the courage to buy her... I feel strangely vindicated? I knew my boring job would at least help me in some respect, other than the mortgage!!
Congrats on ordering a Myou Doll 1/6 DouDou! Myou has some darling dolls! Wow! I can't believe you had to wait almost 20 years to get your first BJD. So happy you finally made it! But @Molliebean is right, BJDs are like potato chips - you can't have just one! Welcome to the hobby!
You know, I am surprised myself - both for holding on for so long and for finally buying one. It helps that these last few years many companies with lower prices and independent artists sprung up, technology moved forward, you can pay in installments, etc. I remember back then, when I started dreaming about one, those few companies that existed had such high prices that even now I would find no reason to justify the expense even with layaway (no judgement on anyone who does, eh! I just don't have the money, these last few years I went a little overboard with playline diolls AND I live in a very tiny flat XD.)! It's a blessing that 95% of my want to buy dolls are Myou XD! One is Skyland dolls Pigi, she has just the loveliest face. And luckily, I don't think preorders for her will be up soon! My wallet is very happy XD
Welcome! I also found out about BJDs in my teens and waited until my 30s to finally buy one (or 2 or 5.....), I think it's pretty common in this hobby Congratulations on buying your first doll as well - I hope she gets to you soon!
Welcome to the hobby! Myou is a wonderful company; though right now I'm limited to a Myou body I've always loved their mature tinies and hope to get them some day. Congrats on the incoming doll and hopefully the wait doesn't kill you.
Thank you I definitely want to get at least two of their 1/4 girls if I figure out where to put them (probably Doudou and Delia as well XD)
Welcome to the hobby! Hope your doll arrives soon and would love it if you post a picture of her when she arrives
I THINK IT DOES ALREADY (and my boyfriend's too XD he gifted me Delia's intended body, hopefully it will arrive in time for my birthday!)
Welcome and congratulations on your purchase. I'm sure you will be very happy with ther when she arrives, I've heard nothing but good things about Myou. For me, the wait was dafinately the worst in the beginning. Once you have your first you can distract yourself by doing things with it while waiting on another.
It is a slippery slope indeed! I remember back when I brought home my first, Volks Megu, that she would be the only one. Well that is not what happened lol! Congrats on your first BJD and enjoy!
