Nendoroid Doll

Jun 12, 2018

    1. What are Nendoroid Dolls? | Good Smile Company

A genius idea by Good Smile Company to take on the Obitsu and Cu-Poche doll lines

Base bodies and first characters due in October, can use heads and accessories from almost 1000 licenced characters that have Nendoroid action figures.

I've been collecting Nendoroids for almost a decade and this is the perfect way to get into BJDs.

Getting a couple archetypes preordered. :)

    2. Would these be on topic for DoA?

    3. Those are so cool and cute! I hope to be able to get the archetype boys when they release. Unfortunately, and to answer goilat28paces, those are not on topic for DoA.
Here are the criteria for on topic dolls that can be posted and discussed in all DoA forums. However, you can discuss them in the Brigadoon section of DoA!
You can have a mod move the thread there or ask them to delete it. (:

    4. These are going to be off topic of this forum because DOA is for resin dolls, so this thread will probably be deleted or moved. You can discuss this in the brigadoom section, however.

These remind me of the Obitsu11/Nendoroid hybrids. I have one of those little cuties and it takes a slight modding of the body to get it to fit right, but it's a good match.

    5. Oh wow, thanks for this! I have 2 obitsu 11 bodies arriving really soon and I plan to mod them and plant my spare nendroid heads.
With this coming, hopefully more clothing options will be available too!

    6. Oh, thank you for this! Just what I’ve been wanting for some of my Nendoroids.

    7. I saw these and I’m SUPER EXCITED!! I hope they start making little clothes for all the characters!!

    8. Just found this, and I've been wanting to get some chibis for a while. But I know next to nothing about these. How do you get heads? Does it always have to be a whole doll? Will the bodies ever come back on sale?

    9. So be prepared to be addicted if you like tiny things! Nendoroid itself has been around for awhile, but the doll is something new that they are coming out with starting next month. They’re relatively affordable between $40-$60, depending on what you get. They’re all based on manga, anime, comics, games.

The archetype dolls were a special that was sold only through the good smile website that I’ve found so far, and like most of their specials, if you didn’t preorder it they will be very hard to find especially because the bodies were only like $18! You might find them “used” I say it in quotes because even though they are marked used most people don’t take them out of there boxes.

Currently they are selling the whole Emily/Ryo doll, (they just started to release the Alice and Wonderland collection for preorder this month) and if you have a classic nendoroid you can switch out the heads between them. Because classic nendoroids are not very articulate, more of a Chibi figure. I’ve never seen an entire head sold separately but they do have special face plates for certain ones, like the fate zero Saber series. They sell classic nendoroid bodies with different themes like office, or wedding but the clothing is a vinyl part of the figure. For the dolls looks like they will sell clothing separately. The hair is also vinyl and can be switched out between most dolls I think (I’ve never switched the hair before)

There are also CuPoche dolls as well, they have a few different face plates and hair styles for the friends collection. These are also an off topic doll though.

    10. I've just had a craving to make chibis of some of my characters (even though I told myself I wouldn't :doh) and everything I found before was not articulate, customizable, accessible and/or cheap enough to make a chibi army. Shame I missed the bodies, but I have no heads so maybe buying them whole is my best bet. How does the hair/head work?

      • x 1
    11. The hair is vinyl so you just snap it on.... I have seen people customize them though, taking the faces off and putting wigs on them. So maybe buying the Emily doll and customizing her? I plan on buying two of her myself one for keeps and one to customize. There’s also the Obitsu 11 that you can get blank so maybe that work? They have anime styled eyes that work with the mono/muffin head. Or you can buy them with blank faces that you have to draw/paint on... they also have eye decals you can buy as well. The Obitsu you can find either at the Parabox website or the The Junky Store. I just discovered them the other day and ordered two blank ones ‍♀️‍♀️

    12. I don't know about Obitsu. For some reason I've never been fond of their faces. I am very picky when it comes to anime style faces, it turns out. This is all hypothetical anyway, and I really shouldn't be buying anything right now. I'll just watch and see. I hope they have more cinnamon releases, I especially want one of those.

    13. I have quite a few Nendoroids myself, and I had actually intended to get in on the preorder of the bodies, but missed it by literally a couple of hours! I was so disappointed.
I did preorder one of the character dolls with the poseable body, but really I didn't need another head, I just wanted the bodies for posing my existing dolls. I hope that they release the bodies again!

    14. How about the eyes? I've seen eye stickers, can I peel them off and stick on new ones? The Alice dolls have the right hair for two of my characters (well, with a color change), but I would need to change the eyes. Wait, where do they sell faceplates? That sounds simpler.

    15. Here’s hoping they do another release. To be honest I thought it was kind of lame that they did an exclusive release for the bodies, so maybe they’ll release them again in a year or so....

    16. The eyes aren’t stickers per say. The face is printed/painted on kind of like a MH or Ever After doll. You can totally take off the eyes of the dolls if they are anything like the nendoroids. The face plates are always fun! You can find them on amiami (shipping and payment is weird though, not sketchy just a PAIN!!) Tokyo Otaku Mode has some as well!

Another way to go would to join a nendoroid buy/trade/sell group and let people know what parts you’re looking for, there are people who always buy extras and end up not wanting them in the end. So maybe join one of those groups and see if anyone will sell you one?

    17. Awesome! Thanks so much for your help!

    18. Of course!!

    19. bringing this thread back from the dead to ask if anyone has gotten a nendoroid doll archetype in peach skin!

does it match most of your existing nendoroids? or is it very different in skin tone?

    20. I got the archetype body in cream, but won't be receiving it until a few more weeks... mail from Japan, particularly from Tokyo always takes forever to reach me. I don't have any unboxed Nendo, so I would probably not be able to compare anyway. However, I do have plans on having the cream body for a custom Sasuke Uchiha Nendo, whom I don't even know if it will be a better match for the cream/pale body, or the peach one, but I went head and got the cream one anyway (because I suck, and Sasuke was pale in the earlier series of Naruto, so I want mine to be pale too. Although, it might not actually match the already released Sasuke Nendo! Like the idiot that I am, I didn't even think about match, so yep, I suck!). [font]

    21. I have Nendoroid Doll bodies in peach, Nendoroid Face Maker custom plates in peach, the original Sasuke nendoroid, and the option blank faceplates that Goodsmile sells that I can take pics of when there is decent light if anyone would like

    22. I just bought the cinnamon boy body for the Archer Nendoroid that will be released in a few months. The face looks darker than the body, but with clothing it will be alright. I fell in love with the Archer, but wanted a jointed body. I’m so happy Nendoroid released a tan body. I might need to get a couple of the light skinned ones if I like them better than the Cu-poche bodies I have. The heads keep falling off! Really annoying.

    23. I would appreciate comparison photos if you could take some with your Sasuke. I'm hoping he will be a match for the cream body, so if he doesn't match the peach, I'm good. Thanks in advance! (:

Kurogane, I got the Cu-poche body as well, for my Sebastian, but I never did unbox either. I kind of regret not getting a duplicate of Sebby to do a custom one, but I kind of never do anything with my smaller articulated figures anyway. DX I never thought about using that body for custom Nendoroid, because they seem so much smaller and thinner in proportion to the Nendo heads. It's a great thing that GS decided to make articulated bodies for their Nendoroid figures, but not so good for my wallet.

    24. thanks for the insight!

i wound up being able to answer my own question because my two peach bodies showed up! they don’t match the nendos that i wanted to put on them at all, but they match another one well enough that she gets to use the girl body! don’t know what i’m gonna do with the peach boy body, but i want to track down a cream one to see if that works better.

    25. Well, I decided I needed two more boy bodies and had to get the peach as the cream was sold out. I think it will be ok. The body would be covered by clothing anyway. I could wait until a cream body becomes available, but the price would probably be awful. That’s what I get for not paying attention to new releases, lol.

    26. @kurogane , i know that feeling of not watching the release schedule close enough.

i tried to put my azumane asahi and kuroki tomoko on the peach bodies and it was such an extreme difference that i couldn’t bring myself to leave them on there.

it’s funny though, the renge miyauchi that works with the peach body isn’t that different from the other two, maybe a little closer in warmth or something. i guess the other two just have more of a yellow undertone than renge, so it made their faces look really sickly compared to the peach.

i also expect that nendoroid will release their doll bodies again in the future, maybe once the current round of pre-orders is finished shipping out. i might try for a girl body in cream, then wait for another pre-order period for a boy body to avoid after market prices.

    27. @c4tbus I’m hoping the peach isn’t too off. Both my boys are a little on the peachy side, but still a light color. If it looks really bad, they will just keep the bodies they are on until someday I can get cream. I’m going to have a small army of bodies with no head soon.

    28. I actually got one of the blank heads on pre-order, to avoid having a blank body without a head, in case I don't like how Sasuke looks on the body. I wasn't thinking about match back then, because I have no brain cells left (apparently), but I am glad now that I got the blank head, because if Sasuke doesn't match, I can at least have a head for the blank body, and maybe make a custom Sasuke anyway. DX

    29. [IMG]

A peach skin Nendoroid Face maker custom faceplate, one of the official Sasuke faceplates, and then one of the blank faces Goodsmile sells at cons, they don't have any options for those but it looks like it's also peach. Underneath is the peach Doll body.

I wouldn't say Sasuke is lighter or paler, but his skintone is more yellow toned than the peach.

    30. Thank you so much for the comparison photo Kim! I think the cream body might still work for the Sasuke Nendoroid faces, if fully clothed, if not I'll just make a fully custom Sasuke chibi-fied figure (I always wanted one from the Rock Lee and His Ninja Pals, spinoff).

    31. @Kim thank you for the comparisons as it’s very helpful.

I will take pictures once the bodies arrive. My guys are getting a house upgrade, and now bodies. It never ends!

    32. These are so cute! I am a little confused though, where/how exactly do you order the bodies? I found a website where you can do the custom face plates, but haven't had quite as much luck locating the bodies.

    33. I got my body from AmiAmi, but any Japanese toy retailer will carry them. I'm not sure if they are all sold out already. You could also check online retailers in the USA, that carry authentic GoodSmile products, if you don't mind paying a bit more for them, than purchasing directly from Japanese stores.

    34. I got my bodies from Ami Ami just yesterday. They still have the peach and cinnamon boy and girl ones in stock. I also checked Hobby Search Japan, same thing. The only ones seem sold out are the cream bodies (boy), I haven’t looked at the cream girl ones to see if they are sold out.

    35. cream girls seem to still be in stock on amiami! i think i’m gonna pick one up plus pre-order the blank peach headplate/headback thing to go on my now headless peach body.

also @Kim thanks for the photo reference! (also is your custom faceplate shiro from the voltron reboot !?!)

    36. Sadly I also bought peach bodies, only to find out that they did not match my nendos at all. :( So I'm now on the hunt for cream bodies.

If you are really desperate for one, you could always buy one of the full nendoroid dolls. I have the White Rabbit doll and he is on the cream boy body. He was $50 but he also came with really cute clothes. Poor guy, I'm probably just gonna steal his body for my nendoroids now until I can get my hands on another cream body lol.

    37. @c4tbus - yes, he's Shiro. I'm working on custom Shiro and Keith nendos. I have all the parts I just need to get off my butt and actually paint them now

    38. Bummed I missed out on the paler boys, but I mostly wanted a cinnamon anyway, so I ordered that. But how to get a head? I want to make some OCs, but the headmaker seems like it might be fussy to use, what with needing a Japanese address and all.

EDIT: Nevermind, I saw that they sell heads too. Now for the hair and face, hmm...

    39. yall!!!! (@Enzyme @greencoquitea )

i just checked amiami and they have cream boys in stock !!!:thumbup i expect they received the shipment and had people not pay or cancel the order! limit is three per household so i expect they don’t have many.

@Kim that is so neat! i’d love to see them when you are finished !!:D

    40. @c4tbus thanks for the heads up about the in stock cream boy bodies!

I went and bought two. I have no idea what to do with the peach ones. With everyone saying peach doesn’t match at all, I panicked and now am stuck with too many bodies. With the Cu-poche and now the peach, that makes four. I guess this gives me incentive to try customizing my own. Yeah, it does!

    41. @kurogane ahh! i meant to tag you in that and not enzyme since they already have one incoming !!!:doh

i’m glad that you got one !!!!

    42. @c4tbus Thanks for the heads up! I snagged one. I've only really collected BJDs, so I'll see how this customization goes. I ordered some hair and eyes, so now to fumble through. I was sorely tempted to get a girl body, but I don't need another doll collecting hobby. Let's see if I can stick to just these two.

    43. Thank you so much for all the recommendations on where to buy them! I've never used amiami, but I picked up a pair because they are just too cute! I think I will do a pair of faceplates as well. I'm very excited to try these! I have some OB11 clothes coming for like tiny BJD, so I'll also be curious to see if they fit these bodies.

    44. Okay, nevermind, I bought the girl body after all. :sweat These guys are going to have to share bodies though. But now I need two more blank faceplates, including a cinnamon one somehow.

EDIT: Or just order those two. :doh Oh dear...

    45. I got shipping notices for my 5 incoming Nendo bodies. Crazy Nendo Lady, is crazy!

    46. I ordered two sets of blank heads, only to realize it would be smarter to simply get faces from the facemaker. But apparently cancelling is hard. I'm debating just taking the loss or getting another cinnamon body. Probably the former. If I get another body, I might be tempted to just get all of the OCs. I'll figure out something, I hope.

    47. Yeah, looks like I will need to do some research regarding heads and face plates for the two extra bodies I have. I don’t want to rush in and make more mistakes. So much to learn!

    48. My peach and cinnamon boy bodies arrived. I really like them and am happy to have them. I put two peach heads on pre order. Might as well. As for shoes, the feet are the same size as my Azone Pico Danshi boys which are 1/12 scale, or same size as Figmas. I guess finding shoes will be challenging.

      • x 1
    49. the cream bodies i ordered arrived today too! they match just as badly as the peach bodies, if not a little worse! :sweat

    50. Thanks for letting us know! I'm still glad I ordered that blank head piece. Now to wait until mine are here, and eventually my duplicate Sasuke, and months after the blank head, I hope they at least match those!. DX

    51. Oh, no , not the cream bodies too! Well my guys are just going to look awful. But on a better note I found the Chibi Chop Shop store and ordered Ryo’s hair and another Nendo’s hair for the two peach bodies. I’m all set, I think...Frankenstein Nendoroids all the way!

    52. Yeah, that Chibi Chop Shop is where I got the hair for my OCs, which arrived long before the rest, but I did get the cheapest shipping.

    53. I didn't know these had their own thread! I have one XD
Getting clothes for him has not been easy.

    54. @Enzyme i’m curious to see how the bodies look with sasuke!

@kurogane i was so hopeful that they would match! i don’t have many nendos anymore (5 down from around 20 when i was actively collecting) but 4 of them are almost the same color and don’t match either body at all! i really hope nendoroid makes one more color that more closely matches the yellow undertone that is so common in their characters.

now i just have to decide if i want to try and sell my three unused bodies or try and make some cute hybrids! i’m tempted to find a proxy for the face maker to make some customs that i know will match the bodies i have ....

edit: @VampireAngel13 i have found that obitsu 11 clothes fit pretty well! also some cu-poche accessories work!

    55. @c4tbus I got my cream bodies today as I was on vacation, and they match my Conan Nendoroid from last year close enough, but my Edward Elric is going to have to work. It’s okay, but the face plates are yellow cream, not peachy cream like you mentioned. I’m wondering why they didn’t match the majority of the Nendoroids already made. Unless it’s the type of plastic they are using for the bodies. It seems more Cu-poche like in texture and color, and different from the type of plastic on the face plates. I did order two heads for the peach bodies and will be using a proxy for the Nendoroid maker website. I found one, I’ll post the info here once I go gather it. Here it is: DeJapan. They will be a proxy and have a instructional page that explains the Nendoroid maker website, as it’s in Japanese.

I also got a couple Nendoroid hair parts from the Chibi Chop Shop. Now I have hair for the peach bodies. The prices are very good, and the store is based in the US. They take apart Nendoroids and sell the parts separately, even the Nendoroid dolls as I got Ryo’s hair. They even had his outfit for sale. I paid $10 ea for the hair. Not bad at all.

P.S. Maybe I should keep Edward on the Cu-poche body, as it keeps his character true. He would be a shorty, lol. Why do I feel guilty about doing this to a plastic doll? :sneaky

    56. I just received my cream body and cream hand parts, so now I just have to wait for my duplicate Sasuke to be released and shipped to me (probably won't get here until late July, because I am cheap when it comes to s/h and always go with registered SAL if the figures are not over $100, in a single shipment). However, just by looking at the body I think Sasuke is a lot yellower than the cream body, which appears to be a very pinkish shade instead of an actual cream-white, which is what I was hoping it would be (and what I assumed when I got the "cream" color body). If I wasn't as lazy (and it wasn't hotter than hell here), I would search for my original release Sasuke buried deep in my closet to compare, but I don't want to unbox the original, when I already have the re-release on pre-order (it would probably be faster to look for Itachi, but even he has a years worth of boxes on top of him). I'm now wondering if these bodies match any of the already existing/released Nendoroid figures or if they just made them to be stand alone dolls, or full customs. ^ ^

Kurogane, I'm glad the bodies worked for at least one of your Nendo! I have no need for additional characters, so I'll probably won't be looking for parts if I don't like Sasuke on the cream body. I'll probably just make my own custom Sasuke's hair since my favorite version of him is with the parted bangs anyway (and there are no Nendoroid that I know of, who have similar hair styles). (:

    57. The bodies and faces are all finally almost here... Just in time for me to haul off to work for five days. Well, it's not like I have heads anyhow.

    58. @iamkathybrown yep, I’m in agreement as I’m waiting on heads too. I have an even longer wait for the cinnamon body’s head. The Nendoroid I’m using for it, isn’t released till end of August. So, I have the naked, headless body standing on my dresser with my bjds.

    59. So I added on that extra cinnamon body after all. :doh:doh:doh And I chose the absolute cheapest shipping to make up for the fact that I ordered it after all of the others, so goodness knows when it will get here. Hopefully it is in less that a month an a half, otherwise I'll be in another state.

Also, the post office wouldn't deliver my things because they need a signature and redelivery didn't match my work schedule, so I need to go the the post office. At least the hands are here.

    60. Since I have a couple peach bodies needing heads, I decided to shell a favorite game character in Nendoroid form. He’s not an exact copy, just a representation of the character. Plus he was on sale! Having headless bodies bothers me. One down, two to go....
