Mystic Kids 1/4 Discussion

Jan 8, 2013

    1. @PeppermintPocky I noticed on Missy's downsides you said she was very pink. I'm about to buy her, do you recommend I go with the yellow or white resin color? This is my first doll and I'm so unsure about everything!

    2. Well, I'd personally recommend against NS-Y simply because I've never seen Mystic Kids' NS-Y and I wouldn't want to take the chance. Some companies' NS-Y can be reaaaaaaally yellow. All shades of pink resin >>> extra yellow resin, IMO. ;) (Not saying that is how Mystic Kids' NS-Y is, just that I don't know.)

I've seen some beautiful WS dolls from Mystic Kids. A quick search on this thread will offer you pretty pictures of their WS. Great if you want your doll to have pale skin.

As for my Missy, NGL, I was surprised at how pink she was when she arrived. I have numerous NS-P dolls from other brands and in those the pink is more subtle.

But I am still glad I went with the color. :thumbup It still looks like a natural skin tone, and it doesn't distract me or take away from her beauty. When I opened her box, her resin reminded me of my first BJD--- a Dream of Doll DOC Petsha, who also arrived very pink but has mellowed to a very lovely cream shade over 7 years. <3

So I'd say if you like NS-P the best, go for it. :daisy Resin can vary from batch to batch, so my Missy could have just been more pink than their usual. Despite my surprise, I like her color enough that I wouldn't.change her to WS or NS-Y, even if I could.

I always try to add a "worst point" to my dolls' profiles, and honestly I had a hard time thinking up one for her. Whatever resin you choose for your girl, I'm confident she will be amazing!

      I hope this helped. :daisy

    3. Adding to what @PeppermintPocky said, I do really think it depends on the batch. Or maybe I just don't view Mystic Kids' NS-P the same way as they do. :sweat

My Evelyn is in NS-P and I think it looks great! Not too pink for me at all. I think it looks very natural and somewhat resembles my own skin tone (although I do have rather pink skin). I have owned a White Skin Francis SP in the past and the color is a really beautiful milky white.

I'm sure whatever skin tone you choose will look awesome. :kitty2

    4. I've since edited Missy's profile to clarify what I meant by "so pink."

Apologies for any confusion I may have caused. :daisy

    5. Thank you very much. I did her face-up myself.

    6. Missy is looking adorable! She's such a modern girl. :fangirl:

    7. Thank you bunches! :daisy

    8. I hope no one minds me joining the thread. >-< I recently traded for a secondhand Mystic Kids Evelyn! She should be arriving sometime next week. I've read through most of the posts and from what I gather this is the important information:
      - 6/7 wigs
      - 12 or 14mm eyes depending on preference
      - slim mini clothes
      - impossible to find shoes for tiny feet
      - chimpanzee arms
      Is that right? xD

    9. Congrats on the trade!!! I hope you'll share photos of your girl when she arrives---I'm a sucker for the Evelyn sculpt! :daisy

Can vouch for the wig-size, at least my Lillian wears 6-7". I've seen Evelyn in 14mm and 16mm eyes so I'm unsure about 12mm. Slim mini clothes *should* fit, but my girl's dress (which was made for MNF) is a bit tight in the bust. Arms are long, but not as long as my Angel Fantasy Alice's. *snort*

Also, my girl fits perfectly in shoes made for 14" Kish (5.5cm) and Matt O'Neill by Tonner. :thumbup Boots made for standard minis (like Kid Delfs, etc.) will probably look a bit bulky, though... I went through 3+ types of boots before settling on my girl's current pair. :XD:

    10. @PeppermintPocky OMG I love that photo of Missy so much! She is so gorgeous! :aheartbea

We mind terribly! Get out with your beautiful MK doll! lol
I'm just kidding, of course we don't mind. The more the merrier! :D

6-7" wigs work perfectly for these girls; but with some companies, whose sizes run a little small, you can get away with a 7-8".
My Lillian wears a size 7-8" from Licht 2.5D, and it fits like a glove. But otherwise yeah, she wears size 6-7" from other companies.

And I'm going to second PeppermintPocky's shoe recommendation. 14" Kish shoes are perfect for these girls! I haven't tried Matt O'Neill shoes, but I think I need to now. lol

    11. Aww shucks! :blush Thank you! Missy thanks you for your kind words, too! <3

Yeeeeees! Matt O'Neill shoes work fabulously. These boots are the style Missy wears and I highly recommend them. They are snug enough to fit naturally but she can still wear thin socks, etc. :thumbup

    12. Chiming in here to say that my Evelyn wears a 7-8" CoolCat wig and it fits perfectly! :thumbup

    13. Oh my gosh, she's beautiful @HoushiChan!

Her wig is perfect, and I think the name 'Blanche' works wonderfully for her. I agree that hazel colored eyes would look really nice, even though the green ones already look great. If you'd like some reference, I posted a photo of Viola (my MK Evelyn) in gray Mako Eyes on page 35 of this thread. I know you're not looking for gray, but I figure it might help you make a decision.

      Thank you for sharing!

    14. HoushiChan, great looking wig! Your girl is so pretty!

What's the matter with the name "Blanche"? I think it's very cute and kinda retro. She's YOUR doll - choose the name you like! :thumbup

    15. Thank you for the reference pic. ^-^ It actually helps a lot. I really like the light hair with dark eyes combination. Your girl looks very pretty as well. Apparently we're in the pink hair club together. xD

Thank you so much! <3 And haha my first roommate thinks it sounds too much like garbage (with a snooty French accent) and the other thinks it reminds her too much of blanch (the cooking technique). Plus she's been calling her Luna since before she arrived, haha. They're both pretty entertained with my dolls so I consider myself fortunate. That being said... I still like Blanche. xP

    16. Your girl is absolutely gorgeous! :D I love her to bits. Beautiful wig, too---really brings out the pink in her lips. Congrats on her safe arrival! :daisy

And pfft, I think Blanche is an AWESOME name. Seriously. If you love that name, I think you should use it. Outside input can be beneficial and fun at times, but when it comes down to it, she's yours to name however you please. ;) It's like on a professional-level when a superior critiques your work---you don't necessarily go with every single suggestion.

I'm not sure what brand of urethanes you're considering, but hazel is sorta hard-to-find. I do recommend urethane, though because there are so many beautiful kinds to choose from in all different price ranges. Off the top of my head, some "hazel-ish" colors I can think of include Mako Owl-009---an olive w/ brown---and customs from Vings such as this pair.

Silent Paradise also offers a lot of eyes that resemble various shades of hazel, such as this one. I own a pair from SP and they are some of the most stunning urethanes I've ever seen. :thumbup

I look forward of seeing more photos of your girl soon! Please spam her! <3

ETA: I stopped typing mid-comment for some reason. :doh Fixed.

    17. Thank you so much for the suggestion. I agree, it is difficult to find a pair of hazel urethanes, I assume because of how they're made. I was hoping for a pair of hazels that were more brown than green which makes it even harder, haha. I might just have to settle for glass. I've been wanting to try a pair from Ms.Kokokok (is that what's they're called?) anyway.

And yeah, I've been calling her Blanche anyway (roomie still calls her Luna, though xD). My roommates are some of my closest friends and they're really cool about my dolls so I actually appreciate that they sass me. It kind of feels like we're in the hobby together so I'm all for their disagreements. But thanks so much for the support. ^-^

    18. Happy to help! :) I look forward to seeing what eyes you choose for her. Also, please note I fixed my previous post because apparently I stopped typing mid-thought for one of the sentences. :doh Sorry about that.

    19. Haha, don't worry about it. I understood what you meant. Also I seem to keep going back to Silent Paradise's eyes and they just keep calling to me. I've never spent so much on a pair of eyes but I feel they'll be so worth it... as long as clumsy me doesn't drop and crack them. I'll have to consider it more. If I sell some things, those are definitely on the top of my to-buy list. *-*

    20. That's awesome you like the SP eyes so much! (Although, maybe not so awesome for your wallet. :XD:) I like the pair I own more than my Mystics, etc. Here's a picture in my non-MK doll. They are Real Type #6. :thumbup You can find a few more owner photos of other colors in this thread, if interested. :)

    21. Just popping in because I restyled my boy Dorian at last~ he's desperately needed it for a while. I just ordered some new eyes for him, so probably I'll be back with better pictures within the week (got him some ultra-sparkly Sprouty eyes, eek! <3 ) but for now.. crappy-casual flash phone pic :p

    22. An update, even tho it's double posting (it's been weeks, so I think that's okay? lol).. Dorian got new eyes and he's absolutely perfect now!

    23. roserising, his new eyes look very pretty!

    24. Thank you!! They're my new favorites.. I used to get Eyeco for all my dolls, but we're slowly going to start switching all the dolls in my household over to Sprouty Doll Eyes <3 I love them so much.

    25. I just recently stumbled on MK on a search for a first bjd that would be on the lower end of the price spectrum. Fell in love with Francis! Does anyone know if it would be cheaper to by his head separate and maybe make a hybrid with another body or just to buy him whole? I'm really new to this hobby and I know I would love love love a doll ( I don't have one yet) but it's still hard to hand over that much for one. Recommendations?

    26. Well, I can't tell you what to do with your money, but imo it's less expensive and stressful to buy the full doll (especially with a relatively inexpensive company like Mystic Kids), especially since matching resin colors across different companies can be tricky. For MK I would recommend checking out JunkySpot if you're in the US, they often have sales :) You can also check out this list of dolls that are under $300US for a look at other less expensive companies.

I do have to say, though, that Mystic Kids has some of the best inexpensive minis on the market right now imo (DollZone used to be quite good, but their prices have gone way up in the last few years). The resin is very nice and they pose beautifully. I can't recommend them enough. :)

    27. I agree with roserising. For a beginner, it would be best to get the whole doll. And since MK dolls are priced so reasonably, it just makes sense to buy a whole doll and avoid the hassle of trying to match up the resin, or ensuring the neck sizes match so the head will fit properly on the body.

The Junky Spot just got a new shipment in and is running a 15% off sale. That's a great discount! And Emory is great to buy from.

I have a Vincent and his body is very nice and poses well.

    28. I'm also going to agree with Rosering about ordering a whole doll being waaaay less of a hassle. Also the Mystic Kids body is one of my favorite bodies I've ever owned for MSD sized dolls because it's like a solid little brick that poses very well especially for the price. And the only alternatives I can think of right away for lower priced bodies are Bobobie or Resinsoul who could try to resin match as well but, I personally really love the Mystic Kids body, poses nice, has good proportions for the head, and resin matches by default!

I think it's totally cheaper (and definitely less stressful IMO) to start with the default body than hit or miss with other more pricey bodies or those that may or may not resin match, etc. and end up being put off from the hobby for it begin so frustrating right away.
As time goes on if you begin to collect more and become less put off by some prices you may start hybridizing things and such with a body from a company you might really like.
And then if you decide on a new body later some time, you can always sell the Mystic Kids one.
But for me, it took owning my own to sort of grow more comfortable with the higher price tags after getting a feel for BJDs overall. (And now I'm a slave to MSD Centaurs and fantasy parts so RIP my wallet.)

TL;DR: Mystic Kids dolls are my favorite "less expensive" BJDs to be quite honest. I love their resin, it's thick, smooth without any seams, poses nicely and they're sturdy little guys.
It's a pretty nice body IMO and I think it'd be way less of a hassle and probably cheaper to buy the whole doll body and all unless there's something else you're looking for in a body that the Mystic Kids one doesn't have or if you just dislike the appearance of his standard body and prefer another company's body.

P.S. Francis is awesome. I think he's one of their most popular MSD sculpts(?) I have my friend's old Francis from a trade. He's great.

    29. Hei~
I just stumbled across this Thread (might be 'cause I'm not very active here >.<'') so I just head to read the posts up to the newest ones... I have to admit that I'm reall happy that I ordered my first doll via MK last September. It's a FrancisSP Doll and he is just goregeous, plus he poses really good. The first glimpse of the resincolor was like a litte surprise for me because even it is a normal pink skin tone he really looked pale (migh just be thanked to the missing face-up) but now I really, really love it and I'm quite sure that my Yahiko won't be the last doll from MK ;)

    30. Thank you guys!! Time to start saving!!!

    31. Oh sorry, one last question. Is Acbjd.com a legit distributer? I've seen them on there for a decent price, and I just want to be sure that it is a real website. Thanks!

    32. Acbjd.com is the site address Alices's Collection. They are an authorized dealer for Mystic Kids, and many more lines of bjds. I buy from them all the time, and have never had any problems. If you cruise the Waiting Room threads, you'll see that many members buy from AC. You could also check the Company Feedback threads to research a specific company's reputation.

(Also, please be aware that AC charges an additional 4% Paypal fee on all their transactions.)

Best of luck in getting your first doll! :thumbup

    33. Personally, I'd opt for the Mystic Kids body. My girl stands like a rock and was a solid poser right outta the box. Highly recommended!

If you live in the USA, JunkySpot also carries Mystic Kids dolls, but their stock is constantly changing. (They only offer in-stock dolls, not preorders.) Good luck saving for your Francis!! He is my favorite MK boy!

    34. Thanks! And thanks for the transaction fee warning!

    35. Hello everyone!

I just wanted to pop in to show off my new girl. :) Today, my MK Lillian arrived, and I am beyond thrilled with her! I've wanted this little gal for a few years, and the wait was certainly worth it!

She doesn't have a name or character yet - and I hope to give her a faceup very soon, but for now here's a quick picture I took of her all dressed up after her box opening. <3

    36. I've been watching this thread for a couple years, although I've never posted, oops! Anyway, my Mystic Kids Lillian, Rhea, recently came home from getting her new face up, and I figured I could post her here!

    37. Do you guys know if acbjd.com would be willing to send a Francis head on a girl body? The sculpt perfectly fits a character.... but that characters a girl.

    38. She's beautiful!

    39. I asked Alice a while ago if that would be possible and she said it could be done. I didn't end up ordering it, though, so I don't know if it would take extra time.

    40. Dukie1346, she's sooooo pretty! Thanks for posting!

    41. What a beauty!!

    42. I have a Lillian Mystic Kids and her resin is super smooth especially compared to the Little Monica resin. The LM resin has a finely sanded tooth to it compared to Lillian. I just love comparing the two. But when I feel that really smooth resin, I am in love with the silkiness.

    43. Loving the new body! Cannot wait to see how well it poses :)

    44. New Oscar and Nicole look awesome!

    45. I agree. Nicole is tempting me for several reasons, but for now I'm gonna stick to my shedule of planned dolls and in the meantime use this time to try to even think of a character she could represent.

    46. Nicole looks awesome! I need to wait until at least two of my current preorders come in before adding to that list though. I just got a Mixue in normal skin this week and wanted to share a picture of her. Her name is Aurelia.

    47. Got my boy with the new body! I opted for the one-piece torso body over the three-piece because I like its aesthetic more! My boy could probably do more poses with the three-piece torso body but I have no regrets! The one-piece torso body is lovely! :D

You can see more photos in his box opening and the body blushing posts on my blog.

And while we are here, here's a snapshot of my Francis SP! :aheartbea (Sorry for the dark picture!)

    48. omg~
your Francis SP looks so cute *____*
I just checked you Boxopening and body-blushing Posts on your Blog and I've to say that the one-piece-body looks absolutely lovely. Congratulations (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*:・゚✧

    49. Hi guys, I've been stalking this thread since last year. I received her on February and I'm finally have the guts to share my Lilian here. She is my first doll ♥

    50. @yutaroyuu Thank you! I don't have their 3-piece torso body so I can't really compare but he's still very poseable so I have no regrets! I really like how their body looks! >w<

@fuuwa she's adorable! I love her wig! Did you do the faceup yourself? :XD:

    51. Thank you, I can't get enough how adorable Lilian is. I'm glad I chose her as my first doll :D and yes, I did the faceup myself :whee:

    52. Wow, it's lovely! I think Lilian is a great choice for a first doll! She's really adorable! :love

    53. That Lillian is super cute!

    54. @Galileo I came across your boy on Flickr while browsing for pictures of Francis, he's really pretty! :) Love the wig choice!

I'm considering jumping on the Francis bandwagon, but I still don't know whether to choose the normal or SP mold! o_o The character is supposed to be a nature spirit, so maybe the SP eyes would probably be a better fit?

By the way, can MK dolls sit cross-legged, or in the lotus position (or half-lotus)?

    55. @PrincessLyra Thank you! I love his wig too haha, it was a pain braiding all those small pigtails but so totally worth it! :D

I think both Francis are really cute but I personally like the SP one (owner bias LOL) :whee:

I took some photos of my boy sitting cross-legged! I hope it helps! He has the MK new 1-piece torso body. I can't be sure but I think the 3-piece torso body might be better at posing since they generally are. But I have absolutely no regrets choosing the 1-piece torso body over the 3-piece one. I really adore the aesthetics of the 1-piece torso body and the posing ability is also quite good for a 1-piece torso! Maybe someone can advise on the other bodies. I'm also pretty curious. :XD:

Dude fell asleep waiting for his slow mistress to finish taking photos.... (๑→ܫ←๑)

    56. @Galileo Haha! Silly dolly!
Thank you so much for the pictures! I think I'm going to get the SP mold after all, it's going to look great while meditating (just like your boy, hehe).
I was actually aiming for the 2-piece torso body, simply because it's taller and the fingers are a bit more slender. The arm and leg articulation is not much different from what I can see in the company pictures, but it would be nice if someone could clarify that.

    57. @PrincessLyra I think you're right! The SP mold would would great for mediating since he could also look like he's dreamy/in a trance. I'm not too sure about their other bodies though as my little boy is my first (full) MK doll. I'm really liking their dolls more and more! Hope to see more around! :XD:

    58. Aaaaaaaaand it happened. I ordered Francis. :kitty2 First time I ever took advantage of an event, even! Can't wait to have him with me... Though I hope his wig gets here first, hehe.

How long do MK dolls usually take to ship? I've been looking in the waiting room, and it seems it's around one month, can anyone confirm that? I think around 2014 they were pretty darn fast, I remember people being in awe at how little they had to wait. :XD:
