The preorder for Jose and Jacob has just opened on Taobao. Here is Joydoll's announcement post on Weibo.

According to the post, both Jose/Jacob will be available in two sizes: for 68-72cm bodies (cost: 588rmb or Chinese yuan) and for 75cm bodies (cost: 668rmb). These two heads are different sizes and take different sized eyes. The Taobao preorder is open from now until 18 August, about a month duration.

If you buy direct from Taobao, you'll have to make two payments: the deposit (right now) and the balance later when it's ready for shipping. You may be able to pay in full right away by buying both deposit and balance listings, that's what I did when I bought Lai direct from Taobao. But you'll have to check the TB listings for Jose/Jacob to see if that's available. (For the record, I bought Lai for 588rmb.)

Joydoll usually posts preorder information in English on her Instagram about a day or two later, keep an eye on that. UPDATE: EN-language preorder info on Instagram

Oh, I think you're correct, I might be misremembering the first Jakki release and it was 1/6 after all.

 

I purchased Jacob using SpreeNow as my proxy and my order + local shipping + proxy fees was $110USD. I'm anticipating probably another $20 or so once production is complete for shipping to me.

In CN¥, the base price for the head is 658¥ (258¥ for the initial deposit and 400¥ for the final payment, you can do both at the same time if you like). Hope that helps!

I managed to preorder too. Mine was $95 for a Jacob in 68-70cm size. But I think my shopping service (yoybuy) only includes the taxes when it's time to ship, I think

I ordered by the end of July, so not very much earlier, I used SPO. I forgot how long they said they were probably going to take - do you remember?

I only saw Jacob orders before. Jacob's certainly conventionally prettier, I guess? But I felt intrigued by Jose's quirky beauty so much, you know?

 

For some reason, I liked Jose's look more. And, I don't know why think Jacob looks a bit like Tobey McGuire

 

I believe they said 3-6 months? So we're getting close to that, should hopefully get info soon!

I agree, Jacob is pretty but I love how Jose looks! I love unconventional heads, and I think Jose is absolutely stunning - all the promotional pictures were beautifully taken!

 

I absolutely agree, about his looks, his picures and unconventional heads in general^^ I loved how Jose is like a new doll person with every new look, even though his features are so distinctive. I can only hope to bring out even a tiny bit of that beauty with my amateur face up

I got the smaller sized head, so I was hoping he'd fit onto an old Loongsoul 68 body I have - the measurements were similar! The skin tones don't quite match, but nothing some faceup and body blushing work shouldn't fix!

 

Right there with you on all points with my ANS71 boy bod. I also ordered the smaller version of Jose. I have a Loongsoul73, and if your LS68 is anything like that, your Jose will be a very happy boy )) Another great reason to come home soon...

 

I got the email from SpreeNow to pay the shipping invoice for my Jacob, so it should be on its way home to me soon! I'm stoked to add such a beautiful sculpt to my collection.

Glad to see a thread for Joydoll! My boy Jose came in a couple weeks ago with his body from Dollsphere. He's so gorgeous, I can't wait to work on his face!!

I still need to figure out a body for the Jose I got! I have been keeping an eye on secondhand sales hoping something suitable might magically pop up.

 

What size head have you got? I got the 68-71cm Jose head version, and it appears much smaller than the head size suggested to me... the body I had for him (AnS 71 boy body) fits as far as neck circumference goes, but the head looks comically pea-on-a-stick like on it - probably due to the massive shoulders. I really would have needed the bigger version head.

 

Yes, I got the smaller size as well. I tried the head on my df-h 68 boy body that I have my Lai on and noticed some pinhead effect as well. I might try to put on a 65 or on a girl body.

 

What's with all the pinheading going on! So Jose is smaller than Lai even? It would be nice to hear if you found something that's a good fit. And if you put Jose on a girl I would so love to see that. That sounds interesting.
Mine is on an IOS class 70 body now that I happened to have. It fits somehow... but I might have to modify the neck if I want to keep it that way, make it a bit slimmer perhaps. I'm still on the fence about that... sigh.

 

I ordered the smaller size Jose and Jacob and I'm really hoping they're even smaller. I only have vague plans for both of them (Jacob will go with my Lai, who still does not have a faceup) but they kinda hinge on them being smaller than 68cm.

Both mine shipped but they've been hung up in the US for weeks and it's driving me nuts.

 

Here's a comparison of the Lai head versus the Jacob and the Jose. (on df-h 68) I think it's due to the narrowness of Jacob and Jose's faces in the cheeks and jaw.




and here they are all wearing the same wig. Seems like pretty much the same head circumference to me.



To me they seem fine at 68 if you like the look of a thick neck, but I was already thinking about going smaller, so now I'm really convinced!

 

@larvaltrust That is a fabulous comparison, thank you for posting!! I have my Lai on an old Dollstown body and if Jose-the one I'm most worried about- is the same size or a hair smaller he might be the perfect size for what I want

Now if they could only get here. With all the snow and ice we got the last few days I doubt it'll be any time soon.

I got my Jose, too! And two Jacobs, but I'm not keeping them. One is for a friend, the other a mysterious bonus/accident. I won't complain, because my friend wasn't sure which color she wanted, so now she can pick! I too need bodies... I think the small head look is just popular in China (and by extension much of the rest of the hobby) right now, but they are somehow smaller than I expected.

 

That occured to me too. I'm sure you're right about that.

I think if you like the more old school look, and pea heads on broad shoulders are not your thing (however trendy^^), you could go with a 65cm (or even smaller) body, but I haven't tried that yet. The IOS70 body I have Jose on is only 66cm incl. a head and it looks so much more in proportion than the 71cm body did. But the narrow chin/ jawline are quite in contrast to anything overly broad and muscular looking, so it's a thing of preference I guess.

@Idoru congrats!! I have tried Jose on the body my Lai is on - old DT15 (which I wish I would have bought more of before they got discontinued). Bald he looks ok, with wig, a little too big for this body, but he might keep it until I find him something else. I don't have a lot of bodies rn and he's my priority of the heads I have (but really he and Lai can share, I'm just not great at that)

Jacob...Not sure he'll work for the character I had in mind now that he's in hand, but holy hell do I want to turn him into a girl. I mean, I'm ready. If I had a body in mind I'm good to go.

 

Lai is an incredible sculpt. Every doll with that mold I've seen so far was completely different and always gorgeous.

 

Joydoll herself posted a few pictures on her Weibo back in July (Sina Visitor System) of the heads on a few bodies... I think the balance looks best on the Vings68, personally, but oh my wallet... That one is lovely and I'm obsessed with it but it is not cheap. Or always available.

My runner up is actually the body I was intending to get for my Abidoll head, but have decided it's actually too narrow in the shoulders, the Dikadoll 68. Not in her comparisons, though, so I'm frowning about it still. I will probably take my time, but oof he's so pretty it makes that hard!!

Agree. I love mine, I just need to finish his faceup.

I gave him his body back, Jose is now on a Ringdoll Teen, which is just a hair taller, but has bigger shoulders and a longer neck so he looks really good. I'm done now, I like this. I just need to find another one somewhere so the doll I swiped it from can be complete too (though he's the Penguin, and my OCs and the DC characters don't really mix, so they can conceivably share)

Yeah those Vings bodies are nice!! So is the DK one. I like the shoulders, they're shaped nice.

I ordered the 68 Jose & Jacob heads from NCS recently, they're shipping right now ^.^ They're both for ocs i have but i only have a body for one currently.

 

I just got in a secondhand impl 62cm in mia white (8.8cm neck circumference 13.5cm shoulders) for my Jose head! Here she is beside my Lai on the 68 df-h

 

I actually got the same outfit for my Lai, but in cream

She usually looks to the side, but here's a rare time when she's looking directly forward. Eye position changes her mood so much!

With her brother (Bimong Narin - both sculpts have serious family resemblance). Somehow Oshidori feels more lively when she's looking to one side or the other...

 

i unexpectedly managed to get an angel no 2 head on eb*y, from a seller within the same state even! so very shortly i'll have the head to try on various body sharing options. I'll want it to have it's own body at some point though, do any of you have preferred hybrid options for the Angel heads? I'm hoping for ~65cm size or under though iir it needs a relatively wide neck... thoughts? It seems like a relatively rare head, I've only seen one other angel 2 for sale second hand, so I'm not finding much about it

 

Here's some info on Angel no.2 on Instagram. According to the post... Head circumference is 20.5cm (~8.1 inches), Joy recommends 62-70cm bodies and a neck circumference of 11.5cm maximum. Joydoll heads are on the small side, I think you can safely hybrid to most <65cm bodies if the neck circumference isn't excessively small.

Hey all, just wanted to give a heads up on something that Joydoll is making: a soft cotton body for resin BJDs. She's just opened a preorder for this body, and I think it's a fascinating alternative to full resin bodies for BJDs. It's off-topic but still adjacent to BJDs, so I've made a thread for it in Brigadoon - check it out.

I think Joydoll is one of the most innovative sculptors in the BJD space currently, she's making really cool BJD and BJD-adjacent things. I want to raise awareness of her work.

Joydoll has just opened a second preorder for Lai, for a month. This is the Weibo announcement (in Chinese) and the listing is already live on Taobao. I'm sure the English Instagram announcement (and info about EN-facing dealers) will appear soon.

Joydoll seems delighted that there's demand for a second preorder. If you missed Lai the first time around, this is your chance!

If you're on the fence, maybe Oshidori's nose and cheek profile will convince you...

am I allowed to your pick your dolly brains a little? I have come to a better understanding of what type of body would fit my idea of José, thanks to you all, but now I'm really struggling with finding a reasonable resin match that I can work with. Maybe it's because most of my dolls are senior citizens by now , but nothing I have seems to fit. Joy Doll NS seems to fall between the yellow and pink normal skin tones, too.

So, do you know what company's skin tone could work with Joy Doll normal skin? I'd so appreciate your input .

Also, I'm so excited there are likely going to be more amazing Lais on the board, and I've been staring in admiration at @aihre's and @Lotte Rotten's very distinct beauties. Thanks for sharing!

 

According to this Instagram post, Joydoll's normal is close to Volks pureskin normal and Switch normal (aka powder beige). Volks NS and Switch NS are similar but have slightly different undertones. They don't actually match each other perfectly anymore, because Switch changed their resin formulas some years ago.

Since you said that your Jose is between yellow and pink, it sounds like he's a peachy/flesh-toned type of colour? If so, I suspect that Joydoll's NS is more like Switch NS in colour. It may be safer to use Switch NS/powder beige as a reference, instead of Volks NS/pureskin normal.

For what it's worth, I ordered my Lai in Switch NS, and she matches pretty well to an actual Switch doll. (Joydoll offered the Volks NS-matching and Switch NS-matching colours separately for Lai's first order.)

I didn't realise it before (and I feel pretty stupid because of that), but I ordered via Stacy's, and she was apparently the only dealer offering Jacob/ José who listed the color simply as 'normal', while another color was listed as 'sng milk tea'... and so I thought that with José Joy Doll's normal skin color was actually different from those heads previously listed as close to Switch NS and/or Volks new pureskin normal. It was my first joy Doll order

But! When I read your post I checked and it turns out that other dealers did list José's skin tone as Volks/Switch NS adjacent, just like Lai is listed now. So I'm guessing I have the same type of normal skin the new Lais will come in as well. And that sure is a good reference point, so thanks again!
