Iplehouse Fashion Doll Discussion - Part 8

Oct 22, 2018

    1. They said it in answer to my question whether they were releasing new characters in the April ordering period. In the past it has taken a little bit to get the new dolls up. I've been going a little crazy too lol. If they're as busy as it seems they are (with the FID's taking a long time and the like) it may be that they're trying to get a lot of stuff taken care of at once so it will take a bit longer to get the photos and translations and everything together in order to put up the new doll. I'm hoping they haven't changed their minds about releasing her this period, cause I need to decide if she or Elle will be better for the character I want to shell later this year. (I mean, I could wait, but I want to have a clear image in my mind of what I'm planning for).

    2. I just finished sewing the Opulent gown by Designs by Jude for my FID Grace. Here she is with Claude (wearing Iple's Prince set).

If anyone else purchases this pattern, be aware that it appears to have been designed for the large chest. My girls all have the medium chest and none of them fill out the bodice. Also, some instructions are missing, so it's a joy and a half trying to put this together.

    3. @TatterPunk I had fun looking up your Charlie! I love her aesthetic, I think your choice of either Elle or Doria would make a beautiful Charlie

Elle has that brooding look, but Doria also has that cold feeling to her sculpt that matches the aesthetic well, its your character so I know it will click once you see them :)

Im biased and hope you get a Doria, I have yet to see a Doria I wasnt in love with lol

My only hope is that she comes in a theme or at least clothing "exclusive" like the Bianca/Mari/Isabel etc

@vermont chick The dress looks great :)

it is so neatly sewn, and I take it you are a seasoned seamstress because everything is so neat and symmetrical

That pattern sounds worrisome to noobs like me lol, thank you for being honest about it.
Ive only had experience with one pattern maker and it was so nice with all the step by step, and the beginner friendly explanation and details, but that pattern maker only makes for general MSD and SD size :( MHD Designs

    4. @vermont chick The gown looks lovely! I really like the fabric! It´s so difficult to find fabrics with such tiny patterns.

    5. @vermont chick wow the gown came out great! I have the pattern too but I found the instructions so frustrating that it wound up at the bottom of my pattern pile! I’m an intermediate seamstress and I almost just want to design my own before giving it another try! :...(

    6. So beautiful!!
I like the patterns but the instructions are not that great. I found that the pants to the 'Summer' pattern had missing steps. There was a step to leave the crotch open for the American Model doll stand...oops...that step should have been removed, for the Iplehouse doll pattern. I wrote Tamara about the problems, as I saw them, with that pattern. I am not sure if she made the changes.
Oh and on the recent FID guy 'Dress it Up' I found that if I did not have some prior experience in sewing there were steps missing, plus the placement of the darts (if you follow the pattern) are way off. Also the way the cuffs are suggested done, personally I did not like. This is the finished result, as the pattern has them done. I will be making another pair, with adjustments/corrections.

I have considered taking some photos or creating tutorials for how to sew up some of her patterns.

    7. @GreenTeaSlug - Thank you. I guess I could call myself seasoned, but when I encounter a pattern like this I feel more like an intermediate seamstress--if that. I've used (and liked) MHD patterns for other size dolls. I wish she would design for this size, but she seems to have abandoned BJDs for 18-inch play dolls. My local doll group invited her to our meet-ups (she lives a few miles away from me) but she refused. I would have liked to pick her brain.

@Ashemanu - Thanks! The fabric, which I purchased online, turned out to be something of a disappointment. The flowers start small at the top and get huge at the bottom, so I can use only the top half of the piece I bought. This dress is cut from the top and the beginning of the middle portion of the print. The fabric is also thicker than I anticipated and thus hard to sew. That's what I don't like about buying online. You can't feel the fabric or see how it drapes and it's hard to get an accurate reading of how big or small the print is, even when there's a ruler photographed with the fabric.

@guls207 - The only reason I wasn't more frustrated with the instructions is because I've used her patterns before. I should have known better with this one. I previously bought it in another size to make for my Raccoon girls and ran into the same problems. When I compared the instruction sheets for both sizes, the instructions were identical. Silly me, I was hoping she would have noticed the missing instructions and include them in the new pattern. I would design my own patterns if I could but that skill is not in my wheelhouse.

@LaurieESW - Thank you! I've been tempted time and again to let Tamara know about problems with her patterns; just never got around to it. I used to make a muslin mock-up of any new pattern to see where it needs work. In recent years I seem to have abandoned the habit. I should probably start doing that again. It's really worth the extra time. The Date Ready pattern gave me problems. I had to use the size for 19-inch male Tonner dolls because she hadn't yet made any patterns for FID guys. A simple thing like a man's tie--and I couldn't figure out how the heck to sew it together. I had to get instructions for a human size tie online. I also had to remake the Date Ready pants to make them fit, but that's my own fault for not making a muslin first. Photo tutorials for her patterns would be a huge help. MHD Designs patterns are so easy to sew because she lays everything out in photos.

    8. Ive got a couple of questions:

      1. Can someone explain how the little wrist rings work?

      2. Does anyone happen to know exactly when they consider it the end of the sale period?

I get paid monthly, so I do not get paid until the last day of the month, which is when the sale period ends, and I am a little worried about the 14 hour time zone difference. If they are open until midnight their time as long as I order by 10am my time I think?

    9. 1. wrist rings don't "do" anything other than cover the 'hole' where you can see the hook and string. They just make the wrist joint 'look' nice hiding the hardware of the doll. if you notice them falling out when you are 'playing' with the dolls and or taking photo's just learn how to insert them and don't put them in unless you need them for looks. If your doll just sits looking nice don't worry about them. mine rarely have them if they are loose ones and only for pics if I remember them.

      2. Dates are always noted on the iple site 'somewhere'... usually in the banners that run on the top. Date's can vary from sale to sale due to where they fall in the week. Not all dolls always fall under a sale period and some can fall outside of them... look on you dolls page (the doll you want) to confirm. If you place an order you technically have 3 days for the payment to be place before an order is canceled automatically. Only you can determine how this would fall with you pay day.

I suggest you go to the iple web page and spend a long while reading in the shopping FAQ section.

As for the April sale of FID's it is the 1st to the 30th KOREAN TIME
You have to work out when that coincides with YOUR local time.

    10. I have to say this image is so beautiful. Just amazing with the effects.

Niiiice. Simple and effective. Reminds me of punk and heavy metal band mates.
      Beautiful menses lol

    11. So I got my Lahela from customs. I am really impressed with her! The sculpt turned out lovely - I have the EID Lahela too, so I could compare. She even looks good in Glow skin normal, which I wasn´t sure about, since her face is more the darker skin type. My Ron is already enjoying her company, while she is waiting for her journey to my face up artist :)

    13. I'm very happy because my repair faceup on Jae Jin worked pretty well and my daughter sent me the mini coca cola bottle with hangul on it that she found for me in an antique store (with brown liquid inside)! I'll add a photo later.
