*laughs* I can tell you, the dolls and the cats run the show around here!!

I have TWO pieces of extremely good news -- one, I got Leonard's shipping notice in the wee hours of Wednesday morning (eeeeee!), and two, I am about to unveil a very special doll to you

Teaser preview, because many of you know just how long this project has taken me, and just how much it means to have him home and in one piece, at last.



It's late, my hands are torn to pieces, and I'm about to fall over from exhaustion . . . but HE IS FINISHED.

Anubis, the god, is very, very special to me, and has been since I was a young child. I have *always* wanted to find or create a fitting shape for him to take, and now he finally exists on the physical plane, as I've envisioned him for years. He's a work of art, a gorgeous doll, and a little altar, all in one.

I've been working on this doll project since 2011 -- had to go on hiatus a number of times due to events beyond my control, but I kept coming back to him.

And I got a big box of parts in the mail from FunnyLori today (impeccably packed to avoid scuffs), and have spent the evening assembling him (which posed some challenges, such as having to craft a custom S-hook to keep his faceplate from getting nudged out of true by the standard size -- that's why my hands are wrecked, because I was using *decidedly* improvised and inadvisable tools and supplies.)

I had also previously fairly heavily beveled his eyes from the inside, in order to fit him with 16mm goldstone spheres (and to get them to sit far enough forward that they'd catch the light.) I love that he has actual semi-precious stones for eyes.

Almost all the credit (for everything other than design/planning/hybridization) goes to Lori, for doing an EPIC job on his customizations -- it was a ton of work that had some false starts (the damned sealant on black kept blooming, OMG!), but she stuck with it, and I couldn't be happier with the results

He's mostly based on this 2005 painting, although I've had him as a character in my long-running and intermittent "Angel of Death" graphic novel/art project since 1990, and have been avidly drawing him since I was in second grade.

He has weathered two moves (mine and Lori's), two body swaps (Mega Gem to EID, EID to SID), being Franken-dollied together out of parts of four other dolls (IpleHouse Light Brown SID body; IpleHouse EID Magician Chase beast hands, originally white, and IpleHouse EID Shadow Chase beast feet, originally Ebony, both of which were dyed and then painted with Tamiya spray paint and airbrush; and the jackal head and outfit/wig from SOOM Ender.)

I will try to get some actually-good photos tomorrow (it's the dead of night here), but HE'S DONE HE'S DONE HE'S DONE!!!

Okay I also have a very mild affinity for the gods of ancients, Egypts pantheon is ... guh... You have done well Ash! The gods would vastly aprove! Especially Anubis

As for Leo.... *damn I need one of Celga's 'frantic' emote's* lol

and like you I too need sleep, 2 hr nap for 2 days does not cut it when this was my do all day ;p

Ashbet: He looks great! Congratulations on seeing your vison complete. He looks like he just came that way...and not cobbled together from so many bits and parts. Just awesome!

 

Is Iplehouse still running their photo contest? If so, you should enter him, Ashbet. Anubis is awesome, amazing, fantastic, and all the other adjectives people are using and will use for him. He looks like every part was intended to come together that way. Great job!!!

The photo contest that was going on during the summer is over now. But they do still have their regular gallery contest thing they do ^^

WOWZA! Amazing!! I would never think he went through so much, he just looks like he was made that way and someone did an incredible paint job. I can't believe he's gone through so much and you've spent this long on him! It really gives me a perspective on my future projects and ambitions. Thank you for sharing him

OH my goodness Ashbet! I love the Egyptian gods especially Anubis! I think he's the coolest of the bunch! Now you need some doll-sized scales and a feather....and something that looks like a heart (um...if you were ever wondering. Mice are around the size of a SD. How do I know? My cat once ate a mouse on our carpet and the leftover was a complete heart. So I know... )

 

Ashbet I have a soft spot for Egyptology and your Anubis is just perfect! I especially love the gradation from the tan to the black on his arms. I'm hoping to create a BJD version of Sekhmet someday, but haven't found the right parts yet. lol. So glad your Anubis is finally finished; Can't wait to see more photos!

 

Ashbet - you've heard a few times by now, but WOW!!! Your Anubis is wonderful. He looks as if he was born (well, made) this way, and not made up from so many different parts.
I really want to see more of him!

LeeAnnB - he is breathtaking!! This is my favorite picture of him! I mean it... Can I like... save it onto my computer and stare at it everyday?


I uploaded some "back shots" of SIDM Dark Garnet Coat and the Dark Knight set on my flickr. Especially so you can see the back of the Dark Garnet coat ... and how nothing is going on. They really could have used that cool pattern that you see on the cuffs more. But if you don't have a long black coat... this is a nice one. I think if it had come with the pants... I would have paid $172. Maybe I do feel a little jipped....

animerockstar-- Thanks for a look at those outfits! I was drooling over both of those... may still order (I think there's a GO going on now)... I don't have a long black coat for my SID... and the sexy leather outfit is just too cool. I never envisioned a style like that for my dolls, but... It's one of those times where I'm going to just force my dolls to wear stuff!
