IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread part 12

Jul 26, 2018

    1. @UrbanHermit Bernice has such a happy, relaxed face, I really love her!

    2. I was wondering if anyone has the newest Star Female Body with the different neck and shoulder jointing system? I know it was released a few months back, but was interested in maybe ordering one too. :D

What a great colour! Was it difficult to go through the custom colour process with Impl?

    3. I don't think anyone has received them yet, @masala_chai_tea ! I ordered mine before they even got it up on the website, but I also ordered through Alice's collection (acbjd.com). It could be that mine is ready to ship any day now, but I contacted Alice's to ask them not to ship anything until after January 1st. So I know I won't get mine until after that. I pretty much freaked out when they were posted on their facebook, and immediately asked Alice's to put one on order for me :P

RE: custom color process, for me; I have a bunch of fairyland Feeple60 event heads. I needed bodies, and I wanted it to be inexpensive. As my first order, I ordered Impldoll's model bodies, but they were way too pink (the normal pink was the only choice at the time, real skin is/last time too dark but more do-able) So I decided to have them do a custom color and sent them a piece of Fairyland resin (a neck ball that was messed up) Told them they could grind it a bit, and grab the "freshest color" and I ordered several bodies in that custom color. They turned out perfect. There are other challenges with the neck and the shapeways neck adapter that I used, but I'm super pleased, especially since they only charge $50 for the special color order for the whole batch. I even got an Aurora head in that color so that I can get her a Supiadoll body some day (do something different) Or maybe I could get a feeple65 body for her? So yah, I'd say getting a custom color order went super well for me :D

    4. Thanks so much for the information on the new bodies! I appreciate it! I was super excited :D:D:D:D when I saw this new body with their new jointing system. Perfect for some hybrids I am interested in, but maybe also a grey or custom colour Azalea or FeiXu! I'm glad to hear the custom colour process is relatively streamlined to do. I've never had the opportunity to do custom colours, so now might be the time to try it out. ;)

I just saw Impldoll's latest sculpt on Instagram...a gorgeous Asian male headsculpt! If anyone wants to check it out too, see it here: Impldoll on Instagram: โ€œAsian style new male head.:) #impldoll #bjd #bjddoll #bjdphotography #bjdsculpting #bjddollsโ€

    5. Yes! @masala_chai_tea ! They posted that a few months ago and asked if anyone would be interested in an Asian male, I think a few of us asked if maybe he could have a less promanent nose as it seems too Western which kind of ruins it.

Personally, I'm bored with all dolls looking alike. Imple has some great unique sculpts, even for the western people's, like Sylvia, which I should have gotten long ago. I love Vanessa, but her large eyes scare me that she won't fit in? I have rather realistic collection, and separately a fairyland collection. I fear Vanessa might look ailian with the others, though It might just be the faceup? But I must admit, their boys are each unique. They really capture a LOT of very different looks with the boys :love Because I think I'm OCD with floating heads, and I got the wrong heads in a head event, I ended up with more dolls than planned for. It got out of hand. So I have too many similar looks. I think Azalea looks too much like Lydia, whom I have a grey and normal color of. LOL, But I started thinking of making a blood elf, then last moment, changing her to a brown, LOL. It's a real problem when you don't have specific Characters in mind!
So yah, I love that Asian boy's face. He'd be a great buddy for my Dylan! Maybe they will release him with a new male mobility body? :cheer :celebrate:dance:shudder

    6. I definitely relate @IngieBee ! Most of my dolls are very hyper realistic (e.g. Supiadoll, Iplehouse, Zaoll, DIM Minimees, Bimong sculpts, Souldoll, etc) and I tend to go for the BJDs from these companies with the tiniest eyes and sometimes open-mouthed teeth looks. My stylized BJDs are in the vein of Twigling and PashaPasha, so really...not too far from realism. My rotating doll head group is getting huge.

I loved Impl Vanessa too, but the eyes just won't really fit with my crew of dolls. I think all the Impl realistic sculpts fit well into the same realm as Iplehouse for sure, but there is a lot of similar looks going on. FeiXu reminds me a bit of a Soom Saiph, so I'd consider getting her just to mod. I hope they get around to releasing the Asian male sculpt on a new body! And hopefully they release an Asian female sculpt too at some point.

    7. One of the reasons I love Impldoll is the variety and realism in so many faces, for an affordable price. Plus, though every sculpt is attractive in its own way, they don't look like super models who are too gorgeous to be real. (One of the problems I have with Iplehouse is they look so uncannily perfect, it makes them boring).

    8. You hit the nail on the head, @A Wee Tiefling although, I still love Iplehouse, I can't see buying too many unless I'm rich and can add on to the house, LOL. I mean, I do love their sculpts, but they are so similar. I'm now looking to eventually get a few of their oldest sculpts that were more unique, but can't now. Will have to wait a while :D I'm with you too @masala_chai_tea :D

    9. @IngieBee With Iplehouse, when they go for quirky imperfections I think they look beautiful (I've seen some beautiful Raffines and Rexes) but it's still weird to say that imperfection is perfection is beautiful. With Impldoll, I think their aesthetic is already very humanizing, giving people a unique nose or a different eye shape, (Tony's cleft chin! Some people hate that chin and I'm like 'But why, it's so different!').

I need to get my lady faced up and I don't want to do that until there is an Impl winter event. Will there be? I was kinda hoping...

    10. @Anita2006 Thank you! Your Aurora looks gorgeous the way she is now; I never would've known her wig was too big from the way she looks in your photos.

@IngieBee I think pretty much all of Mysteriousdollworld's clothes should be a good fit for the Star body. I ordered a couple of her SD grab bags, and I was able to get everything but the stockings (which were actually a bit too big) onto my Azalea without any problems. Some of the shirtsleeves were a little tight around her arms, but I imagine that wouldn't be an issue on the non-muscular body.

@rubydoll I might end up modding her ears in the future, but I'm content to leave them as-is for now. Impldoll were super nice and offered to send me a replacement head with elf ears when I contacted them about the mix-up, so I'm fine with her having human ears until that arrives. Depending on how long that takes, I might try to do some ear-sculpting in the meantime, but I don't expect I'll have much time to work on her until the end of the holiday season.

@masala_chai_tea Impl's custom color process was really easy to go through for me. I just sent them an email asking about ordering my girl in a custom color, and they sent me a link to a webpage with tons of dye colors to choose from. They were amazing at responding to emails, too; I never had to wait more than a day for a reply from them.

    11. @Squishle thank you, yes her wig little bit too loose but i fixed it with few seamlines on the back and now it not folling all the time ( not sure if im writed good word). I mean not fell down :-D i still think so that her new body will be more atractive in her character as she is Queen wich lost everythin, women on all sizes, wich belongs from her kings mercy. so she need to be on femine body.

    12. You know, I think I keep falling for a certain look, then I realize my dolls start to look alike and I get annoyed LOL. Iple does have unique sculpts, but I'll stand by that I think Impldoll has more variety. I love both companies desperately either way, LOL

    13. I get that too! Five of my eight girls are from Impldoll, so I do worry that they're not varied enough, however, they're all different colors and all styled a little different so hopefully, that's enough variation to the aesthetic! I do love Impldoll's sculpts and the fact that they don't all look TOO perfect. Martin, for instance, is used to shell a character who is a little underweight. I love that the thinness of his face and the prominence of his cheekbones (including a little blushing to emphasize them even more) gives that character a realness to him without being too extreme, which isn't always easy to find.

    14. @UrbanHermit

You've nailed it! Impldolls look perfect at embodying what they are, like your Martin. He's perfect for a thin looking guy, he doesn't have to look perfect *for a human being*. With my Delia, the minute I saw her I thought she looked perfect for the character: she's a handsome looking woman but she's not TOO pretty or delicate (and yet still womanly). I desperately want a Tony also. He looks like the more human (and still good-looking) of an Iplehouse Rex. (Not that Rex isn't a great sculpt too, but there's somethin' about Tony I prefer)

      • x 1
    15. Tony reminds me of a young John Travolta, LOL

    16. Good to know! It's fantastic that they have a lot of dye samples to choose from so you can really customize the colour that you want! The communication timing sounds great too.

    17. Hey! My Impldoll Aurora came in a little over a week ago. I just got done posting her box opening.

    18. Yowsers!!! She's a hot mama! You are making me very happy that I got mine in brown instead of a paler color! Is yours tan? I hope brown looks just as good ( fingers crossed)!

    19. @IngieBee Yes, she's a normal resin tan. It's a really beautiful hue! I'm sure the brown will be lovely.

    20. So exciting after seeing yours!!! I did ask them to do the faceup, since it's not so expensive. I hope it turns out OK. I can always wipe though, I guess, or add to it. I hope they don't paint the lips all square though... :doh I should have asked about that, but it's too late now :P

BTW I absolutely love your eyebrows, I just can't get the handle on eyebrows let alone lashes. They're the bane of my faceup existence because they actually require skill, LOL :D Excellent job @Mirrin

    21. @IngieBee Aw, thanks. I totally did not have the right brushes for anything this small scale so I'm left wanting to redo those eyebrows. Eyebrows were the biggest challenge. I'm so glad someone thinks they look ok! :D

I am a lover of any darker skin tone resin so I am way excited to see what that brown of yours ends up looking like. <3

    22. @Mirrin Wow, she's gorgeous! I'd have such a crush on her if she were a person. The darker skin is beautiful on her, it brings out those cheeks! Ugh, I'm theoretically planning to get an Aurora on the muscle body...but in paper white. I'll just have to admire your gal from afar.

    23. Yah, I don't think it's very dark, just more of a coffee tone to the tan. I hope it still looks good next to my tan Dylan! I never found my Etsy doll clothes order, so poor Dylan is still without an outfit :doh it'll be a while before I can afford to reorder. And I just don't have the time to see! I'm going to make a resolution to find the time next year!

    24. She is so beutifull. looks like party girl, young and full of power. totaly difirent doll when you see her on difirent make up.
I just realised how hard is impldoll idol boys body to dress up, hes moving all around, sitting when i need that he would stand, maybe i need to restring him, or just hot glue sueding so he will stay stabel when i need to fit him clothes.
At least i made my Kings jacket and shirts. Gosh it was so hard to dress him up.

    25. jacket for impldoll idol body and simple shirts :-) [IMG]

    26. Wow, fantastic jacket! It's awesome, he looks great! @Anita2006! Looks like the Queen approves too!

    27. @IngieBee still need to finish some details in jacket but so far it looks it have small Christmas gnoms on it :-) anyway thank yu for good words, i need more practice to make better clothes for my beloved dolls :-)

      • x 1
    28. @A Wee Tiefling Thanks! :D The muscular bod always looks great with the Aurora head sculpt. I'm sure she'll be fantastic.
My girl is based on my pathfinder witch character... so she has like no muscle to speak of. :P

@Anita2006 For sure! It seems like everyone that has her has done something totally different!
I'm eventually going for a witchy contemporary vibe, but haven't had the time to really make her clothing yet. The skirt I made is very flashy and party girl though, you're right.
It sounds like your boy might be a little loose if he's floppy or needs to be restrung. I didn't even notice how floppy my Spiritdoll Celtis was until the Impldoll Aurora came in and she was strung tightly. I just got used to the flopping. :sweat

    29. @Mirrin yes, i need to restring him or little bit tight him up :-) we will see if it helps.

    30. I am so happy right now. Impldoll informed me that my Nicolas head with custom faceup is done and that my order is ready for shipment. Sadly, somehow I cannot post the pictures here. The eyebrows seem to have a bit too much white, but I can correct that.

As soon as he arrives, I will take pictures of the head. He looks absolutely fabulous!

      • x 3
    31. oh, i wish i could do restring for myself, but im so afraid to go wrong. looks like my boy not strung tight inafe....

    32. Huge congrats @Ipledreamer on Nicolas! He's such a hunk of brooding goodness!!! LOL. Can't wait to see him when he arrives! Just in time for the holidays!

I've found that the trick to restringing is to use the existing string as a guide, tie the new string ever so slightly shorter, then restring with the help of a burly friend or in my case, husband or son, LOL. A set of hemostats are almost essential. Beware "upgrading" to a larger string, as they may not fit in the channels :). I do fear intensly the day I have to restring Nicholas, he's HUGE!

    33. Ah well, it is not that bad. It is better when you are still training that skill to make the strings a tad longer. Your doll may end up a bit too floppy, but it is easier to shorten the string than to lengthen it (which is impossible). You can always cut away extra string.

I like to use a long shoestring and start from the head. I use two separate elastic strings which run from the head through the body, separated at the hip and running through each leg.

And I like to have the knots in the guys' big chest cavity and pull up the loops through the neckhole. Pushing is a bit easier if you use a long skewer. You can catch the end of a shoestring and push it through the whole of each part, one string at a time. That is why long shoestrings are better, that way nothing can fall off.

Did anybody understand what I mean? If not, I can try to make a video for you.

    34. @Anita2006 wow that shirt is stunning!
@Ipledreamer Oooo, a Nicholas. Always exciting to see custom faceups.
@Mirrin Heehee. My future Aurora is shelling my monk/drunken master elan so she has muscle (and legs) for days. I based her on the alternative model Ulorin Vex. (Mostly I like Aurora's very stark, sculptural jawline)

    35. @Ipledreamer your meathod sounds far more practical! I do end up with more mistakes in the things I do by attempting to get it "just right" the first time :doh

Gotta remember, measure twice, cut once :XD:

Hee hee, my Aurora is supposed to be a hippy chick ATM

    36. i think i will try to tight u old string and just see how it works then, i know when i changed head i lost string in hafe whay and when i put torso back its little bit loose in that side. thats why when i want him to dress up he starting to folding up in hafe :-) oh hope so everyone will understand what i mean. i need to learn better in english ( thats why im going to college ) :-) i will try to tight him up just pull string up frm head side. hope so it will work.

@A Wee Tiefling thank you, next time i will do difirent way, little bit more space on sleeves when adding jacket with shirts under it so it will be more easy to dress up as now it was hard to take hands in to jacket :-)

    37. @Anita2006 Oh yes, dressing bigger dolls is a chore! I'm excited to see the magnetic hands though, I want to give those a whirl at some point.

    38. yeah, magnetic hands its really good decision i will buy for my guy one pair in future or jointed hands, still cant decide. jointed hands is more posing possibility can give you.

    39. Ihave never had luck with pulling up strings at the neck. Even with a large doll, or maybe especially with alarge doll, I find just restringing works best.

    40. I love magnetic hands, but the only pair they have look like claws. We need more choices!

    41. A new discussion thread: Part 13 !

      :)
