IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread 14

Sep 24, 2019

    1. For whatever reason, the forum likes to drop me from threads I'm watching/responding in. I'll wonder why thread 'X' has been quiet lately only to find when I go to the specific thread that it has continued on but my notifications were dead asleep at the wheel.

It may be discouraging to not get responses but people are seeing the post. They may just not feel like they have anything to add to that particular post so say nothing.

    2. Comes out of lurk mode....

There are members like me who don’t even have an Impldoll, or an SD, but this is one of my favorite threads. It’s so upbeat and a lot of valuable information is shared. (I mostly lurk as most of the threads I can participate in are empty, the dolls not popular anymore.) So, yeah, I don’t post as I don’t have anything to contribute. I do heart pictures or comments though!

    3. Watching all the alerts that come up for this thread make me thrilled that I'm waiting on an Impl body for my girlie Than. Now I'm even more impatient for her to be finished so I can share.

      • x 2
    4. (*waves to Kurogane* Haven't seen you in a WHILE! Now I know why! *hugs*)

    5. Ooooh... which body? And which head sculpt? A hybrid?

    6. I'm getting the 63.5cm Star body for my Black Cherry Dolls Ichigo head. :) I'd originally thought I got this on Ebay...but the seller had apparently not realized it was the 56cm Model body instead. I mean, she looked...ok? Just needed her to be taller xD

      • x 1
    7. Oh yes! I recall that being mentioned recently! What a shame! Buuuut I love the old Starwoman bodies, they're so poseable! The models are great but /small/. Your girl will be awesome, please don't forget to share!

      • x 1
    8. Oh I'll happily share her. I can't wait to go at her for /all/ of her tattoos <3

      • x 1
    9. Oh sweet! I love tatts on dolls! I just wish I wasn't so lazy... more of mine would have them.

    10. Her's take up most of the left side of her body. So once I color match her head... I'll probably be doing a body part at a time.

    11. I have quite a few with tattoos/markings on them. I'm a huge fan of the temp tattoos for dolls. Nearly all of my marked guys have them via temp tattoos. Malachite (the custom green Ziv I recently ordered) will not have any though. One of the factors that pushed... well nudged.... okay, led me by the hand to purchasing a doll 2nd hand was the awesome tatts he had.

      • x 2
    12. *LOL* I cannot lie... sometimes the tatts on a 2nd hand doll convince me to make a purchase, too!

      • x 1
    13. I agree on all the comments and opinions above

    14. So whow I thought was an ugly woman was actually a man! (This lets you know how bad the pics were hahaha) I'm not sure what sculpt he is, but he has arrived...with his fingers all broken off. :...( He was barely padded at all, just a few plastic bags in his box. Definitely not sold by doll people! I messaged the seller and we'll see what he'll do for me. Hoping for a partial refund because I'd like to keep him. Needs a bath, new face, restringing, and a wig though.

He also came with a really wonderful impl carrying case! It's nice faux leather with tie downs and pockets and a carry strap. Came clothed too, but they're not quite his style, but the shoes are nice.

    15. Is that an Ekin? Aw, those poor hands! And yikes, bare bones packing!

      • x 2
    16. What was this sculpt called...Bosco, I think?

I think I saw him on eBay before you bought him.

Good luck with the seller. If your doll is the same one I saw, I hope you didn't formally open a return, yet...eBay may try to make you send the whole doll back for a full refund if you end up having to escalate the case.

    17. @chalyss I think he's Ekin all right! I'm going to give him a beard I think. Different eyes. He can join the weirdo vampire coven with my other Impldoll John. My Rumpeldoll Abadon fits the body surprisingly well so he might steal it until I get him something else more muscular.

@Madame Rosebud I messaged the seller about the damage, but definitely haven't started a return. I want to keep him and I'm growing more fond of that strange face by the minute.

      • x 2
    18. @Thymeseer A face-up can change a doll like whoa. I've seen dolls with different face-ups where one made me go not a hope in hell I'd ever buy that to holy cow, he's beautiful. I hope you get the hand situation sorted without having to do some sort of return.

      • x 3
    19. It's definitely strange! You could write a poem under his nose and still have room for a mustache (to go with the beard).

I agree with Irondog, though - the right faceup could really bring out his appeal. I always liked the distinctiveness and personality of the older Impldoll sculpts...so much potential.

Fingers crossed for a quick seller response!

    20. Not an Ekin, a Bosco. I haven't seen that sculpt in years! It is full of character though, and could be something special indeed!

      Here's his old sales pic:

    21. @Madame Rosebud OMG you made me crack up!!!

@Thymeseer is he on a boy model body? Or a girl? Anyway, I think he is cute, but am not a fan of the Faceup. Not that I could do any better, LOL.

@chalyss that Bosco looks very nice. But I think a talented Faceup artist could make him look amazing. I want to learn how to do amazing faceups, but I lack talent apparently, ROFL.

I am looking forward to my event head from Alice's which I am getting with my FGB for Plaice. It's a doll family and I'll be using it to practice skin texturing etc...

The thing with Impl's newer boys and girls is that their detailed sculpture makes faceups hard to ruin. But I still think knowledge of texturing could maybe step it up a notch :D

      • x 3
    22. @chalyss Wow I haven't seen that old sculpt in years. I kind of miss the older sculpts from Impldoll. There was a uniqueness and character to them that I don't really find in their newer sculpts anymore. Don't get me wrong, I like their newer sculpts and think they are gorgeous but they're different, more realistic I guess than their older stylised sculpts. Honestly, if I had more room for the bigger sized dolls in my cabinets, I'd be incredibly tempted to see if I could order more of their older sculpts. I already have their Christopher who I adore.

      • x 2
    23. They do still carry the old sculpts- one need only ask to order one. Hard to find them, though, to order them. I think Alice's still has them up. The old ones certainly do have a style and character all their own!

      • x 1
    24. @chalyss hi! Waves back! Definitely enjoying this thread! I get to see so many beautiful dolls!

      • x 1
    25. @kurogane, glad to have you! Feel free to de-lurk anytime! (I like seeing the pretty dolls, too! :love)

    26. @jade-eyed-cat
I'm curious...why did you switch up your Berenice? I love her old pinup girl makeup. She reminds me of Bettie Page.
Also, I know what you mean about not being motivated to share. I do all my doll sharing on Instagram, where I don't feel quite so badly if they get snubbed. But I've also just completed a cross-country move so nothing motivates me
@chalyss Nah sis, Alice's collections took down the old photos too, which sucks because I like looking at them and getting inspired.
      -
I have reasons to post here soon...my Aurora AND my Little Rebel hybrid are on their way. My doll cup runneth over

    27. Oooh, when did you order, @A Wee Tiefling ? I'm waiting on a body for my Plaice and the new Leona head. I hope they don't give her those drug addict eyes, or at least not as bad as the previous two new heads :doh. But I figured it would be worth a go, and maybe I can minimize the red somehow. I'm just so sick of trying to do brows and lashes and having mediocre faceups on my dolls :(

    28. @IngieBee :D :D :D drunk eyes! yikes!!
I got both my dolls (nearly all my dolls) second hand. FUUUU...I ordered my Tony. He'll be coming in a year. make that THREE reasons to celebrate.
I don't bother facing my dolls, I'd rather scope out proper artists.

      • x 1
    29. I always want to try to do faceups because I want to be able to do it, but I can't seem to get control over my hand!

@A Wee Tiefling why is Tony going to take a year? Do you mean he'll arrive next year? Because it's November???

    30. I'm genuinely thrilled to be on a thread that actually has movement on it. Normally I hardly ever post even pictures to DoA because I'm just not motivated to do it. I'll tend to post on IG or in my FB groups. I also have issues with my own self on posting too often even if I'm not.

    31. Im a little confused and have searched this thread and the earlier thread to understand better but I would still really appreciate some help understanding orz Im not familiar with this brand TBH

I love the muscle female body, but looking at box opening it looks nothing like the one in the pictures. I come to understand (thank you @IngieBee for the warning) that only the shorter body gets the muscular legs / star body. The taller one gets regular legs, but will be getting the muscular legs in december IIRC from @chalyss ?

Do they both have the muscular arms, or is that only for the shorter / star body? or has that been scrapped? Do I need to message them requesting the muscular legs + arms when ordering the body?

I really like Sicily but Im not sure what to think of the body not being like pictured. I would love to see what the recent faceups look like, to see if they match up to the promo pictures, not sure I trust the promos after seeing the body being sent without the parts in the photos lol.....!

    32. I'm going to be getting default face-ups on both incoming dolls (Model Ziv & Baby Teno). I'm not sure when they'll be arriving though as the Ziv is a custom colour and I ordered him (and got the Teno free) during the event at the beginning-ish of October.

      • x 3
    33. @IngieBee He's on a layaway so though he'll be done sooner, I won't have him paid off until next fall.
My rough faceups aren't very good. But supporting an artist? My jam.
      @GreenTeaSlug
I can get you some photos of the Star body in a few weeks, so you can determine if you like them.

      • x 2
    34. I actually tried to order one of the older sculpts in June, myself, through Alice's...they told me Impldoll doesn't make them anymore, and then removed them all from their site (so, sorry to whoever might be trying to find them there, now...they're all gone, and it's my fault).

I don't know if ordering directly through Impldoll would have a different outcome...I don't know whether Alice's information came from emailing/calling Impldoll, or just from seeing that the old sculpts are no longer on Impldoll's site, either.

    35. @A Wee Tiefling , I have had AngelToast do most of mine as well. It's still something I want to accomplish properly though, LOL ugh I hope you can pay him off sooner!

@GreenTeaSlug FYI,I think Sicily is on a normal star body in the picture, though she should fit just as well on an idol body - muscular or not. Muscular bodies have muscular arms and torsos. The legs for the idol muscular version had some sort of problem so Impl sent those bodies oug with normal legs. They promised to fix it, but it's been forever and I've lost hope. The star size muscular body did/does come with muscular legs so far. I would definitely check with them to see if they have the muscle legs made for the idol before ordering one.

I do see a difference in the sculpting of the arms and torso of my idol muscular girl compared with my normal star girls. They are very ripped. Unfortunately, without those legs, I can't do the outfit I wanted to do :(

I also have an incoming doll, hopefully by next month, with a default Faceup. I'll share when she arrives :)

      @Madame Rosebud that's a bummer :(

      • x 3
    36. @Iron_Dog that would be helpful, yes I would love to see them when they arrive safely to your world :)

@A Wee Tiefling that would be amazing! I love the promo shoots but it looks a bit confusing to see what people are getting in comparison, that would be a very big help to me orz. Ive always wanted an Impldoll, was going to wait for the 2 new exciting models to be revealed to get them, but Sicily looks very beautiful to pass up lol

@IngieBee Ill be using the Sicily head on a slim tall body like dollstown vision body, and the muscle body for another head I have. I love the muscular body, and I like that the Idol is the taller of the two, I mean, a muscular and tall woman? Thats so cool. I would understand your disappointment, hopefully news will come around soon! December isnt that long of a wait and based on what Ive read and seen, Impldoll does care about their customers so I wouldnt give up hope. In the mean time, you could go the hollywood way and blush the legs to give it fake definition until the proper legs arrive to you :)

I appreciate you talking about it, I would have never known if I hadnt seen your posts

      • x 3
    37. @GreenTeaSlug Yeah, what @IngieBee said! *L* For whatever reason, Impl did not like the way the Idol muscle legs looked, so they stopped including them. A few of us complained, so they capitulated and are working on the Idol muscle legs now. Yes, it has been a looong time, sadly, but I am told by Impl (I bug them a lot on Facebook messenger) that they should be ready by December. Any one waiting for them should remind them as such when they come out. The Starwoman legs are quite lovely and muscled and you can see them on the sales site. I also have a few of them so if you need more pics, just let me know.

@Madame Rosebud, when Impldoll removed the old sculpts from the site (this was a few years ago now, though), I was assured by them that if you request one, they will make it. They're not out of production, just not actively marketed. Maybe that's changed by now, but please, anyone interested, just email them and ask.

      • x 2
    38. Hopefully it hasn't changed; I'll have to send them a message when I'm ready to go doll shopping again.

Reading back over this thread, it looks like there could be several potential buyers if they ever did decide to put those older sculpts back up on their site.

The only ones from that time period I still see there are Fantasia, Isaac, YunYan, and Aaron - but, I think Fantasia was one of the ones Alice's told me was unavailable...?...

It looks like we've got ourselves a mystery, here. :ablink:

      • x 1
    39. @IngieBee he's on the boy model body. I mistakenly thought he was a girl because he came with heel feet and a very purple sweater haha. (And one of the nicest pairs of pants I have ever seen before in my life!)

I glued his fingers back on and the seller gave me a small partial refund. I'm happy enough with the outcome, and now get to restring and suede him this (my Mon-Tues) weekend.
Really wanting to redo his faceup, but he's got to get in line. I've got a few other dolls who were here first and one that needs mods still. I'm also still trying to find a character that fits him. I have two stories with my dolls and I need to figure out which he lives in. And my Abaddon is refusing to vacate the body, the greedy cur.

I like doing faceups, and it's the reason I got into the hobby from repainting fashion dolls (which I still love to to), but I am EXTEMELY heavy-handed. Things are always a bit more intense and blocky than I originally intended, but I just need more practice I think.

I am also in love with the muscular body, to the point I'm trying to rationalize that a certain character of mine now needs to be buff.

      • x 3
    40. Can't wait to see what you do with his faceup @Thymeseer :D Yah, I think it's time for me to re-ask about those legs :D

Edit: I just asked on the Q&A

    41. Hallo, I would like to try hybrid Impl Star Muscle body (small bust) with Rainmanking Tsunaina TAN.
According picture in IMPL gallery, optimal solution seems to be special real anti UV skin. I read somewhere at DoA that TAN in Impl color scheme is more yellow/brown (and picture at their site suggest it too).
      Any advice/ opinions?
I am OK with fact that there will be color difference but can it be solved with blushing / basic coloring (not paintbrush, just brush)?
I can still ask IMPL for custom color match :-) Thanks.

      • x 1
    42. For $50, I'd get them to color match. The only thing is, you need to send something like a headcap in, which they will return, but I don't trust the mail system. You could ask R&R if they could send you some scrap resin? Or you could get a matching paint chip at the paint. Store. Beware, I believe impl tan is very orange.i think their 'brown' is a better color :)

      • x 2
    43. Yes. Mailing my Tsunaina headcap to Impl is nightmare because poor SU should end up without it. Terrible vision. But thanks for idea ask Rainman about scrap resin I didn't think of this simple solution.

      • x 1
    44. @susana789 Impl is really good about the resin matching thing. When I ordered my Ziv in custom green, they sent me a link to choose the colour closest to what I was looking for (an exact match isn't necessary as I wanted him (the Ziv) to be close to his child version, an Impl Simon Colourful Life).

If you don't feel comfortable sending out the headcap, @IngieBee has an excellent suggestion of going to a paint store and getting a paintchip to send them. That's what I'll be doing for a head I have that is an artist cast where the head cap is a slightly different shade than the head, so sending the cap would get me the wrong colour regardless.

    45. oh gosh, I think I need Sophia. I just adore her eyes, and keep getting something else, bypassing Sophia.... and Garza. I think I would want to reduce her lower lip just a little, unless it's the faceup that makes it look a little too much for me. May I ask for Sophie spam?

      • x 1
    46. ask, and ye shall receive
      [IMG]

      • x 3
    47. I asked Impl and they told me that no, they don't sell the Old dolls anymore. If it's not on the site, it's not for sale. Not sure when that changed, but mystery solved!

Another way to color match is by giving Impl the html color that matches what you want. When i got my red girl, I just told them Chinese happy red, Hellboy red. And that is exactly what they gave me.

      • x 2
    48. Thank you! :)

It's kind of a shame, but it's understandable. They're coming out with new sculpts...the inventory can only be so big.

It looks like Thymeseer's new Bosco is a tremendous rarity, now, then.

      Beautiful!

    50. This. I don't think they accept head caps for resin matching. When I requested it through Alice's they handed me a color chart. Got closest I could and then sent in an official picture of the color I need. Hopefully all goes well with this xD

      • x 1
    51. of course, happy to help! that's the Impl faceup she came with too, no special requests on my part. and another shot of her lips, since I know that was a point of concern for you

      • x 4
    52. Just thinking about smoothing out the lower lip a little, but that might just make her look like everyone else, so it's probably a bad idea:doh I have Leona incoming without a body, so it will be some time before I can buy another doll. In fact, I've been bad lately with buying heads :doh. I want to to sell some dolls, but I love them too much!

      • x 1
    53. @chalyss Thanks for finding out and solving that mystery for us. It's a shame they decided to change that as you used to be able to order the older sculpts by emailing them. That's how I ended up getting my Christopher but as with everything, all good things must come to an end. It's sad to see them gone though but it was probably bound to happen eventually. Although I did notice they still had Aaron, Isacc and Fantasia on their website so they must still be available.

I would post my girl more but since the whole debacle with photo bucket, I'm not really sure where to host my photos to be able to post them on here.

I still kind of wish I could have gotten some of their newer bigger dolls like Azalea but I cannot fit anymore big dolls in my cabinet unless I decided to move some on and I don't want to move any on... and I can't add anymore cabinets as I've run out of room for that too! Maybe I should just get a bigger house!

@Girrl Your Sophie is stunning. Impldoll do such a great job on their default face ups. I really love them.

      • x 2
    54. @shirahime I know! I'm more than a little sad about that! I'm glad they have a few of the old sculpts yet and they do sell the old body on the options page, but what a shame!

How about a free flickr account? There are other free hosting sites too... frog something? I can't remember. try a search for free photo hosting and sharing.

YES! BIGGER HOUSE! *LOL* That is what I need! Or for the kids to move away so I can claim their rooms. Which they did once, then came back, and now I have to give up my doll room. Boo!! I also need to whittle down my numbers-- 85 is too much, I guess.

@Girrl, she is stunning! I need a Sophie. ...No I don't, I need more pics of others peoples' Sophie so I can drool over them. :)

    55. I've been meaning to post again, but I keep putting it off and now I missed so many messages again, aieee!

I really love this IMPL subforum; it's definitely one of my favorites in DoA because of the awesome people in the discussion. *hugs to everyone* Believe it or not, I feel out of place sometimes in the local community because my taste in doll aesthetics (realistic big guys and gals) is quite a minority there. If not for this subforum, I may have totally gone hermit in the hobby.

Anyhoo, that's really hilarious, re: getting a bigger house just to display dolls. XD I doubt I'll go beyond my current lineup of five (except maybe if I get a secondary body for my lone MSD), but even at their relatively few number, it's already getting crowded on the piano. (Yep, I don't find it creepy at all to have many pairs of small eyes looking my way when hitting the keys, haha!)

      • x 3
    56. @chalyss Ah, I actually have a flickr, I just forget about it a lot and rarely log in these days. Plus at one point I couldn't log in for some reason and had to wait for a week to hear back from them as to why. I never think to use that. I will have to see if I can log in again!

And wow, 85 dolls. That would be an awesome sight to see in a group but I daresay, it would take ages to set everyone up for a group shot like that! And here I was thinking my 23 was a massive number already. I did whittle it down but it kind of crept back up to 23 again. In my defense, 5 of those are Yo-SDs and tinies so they just sit on the laps of the bigger dolls and don't really count as "space" occupiers.

The only problem I'm running into as Christopher is on the old Star body or Version 1 is clothes that fit her. I got Lydia's outfit but it's a bit big for her around the bust and I am pretty hopeless at altering clothing or sewing in general so I sadly can't really use that outfit now. But I'm going to have to get custom clothes for her. She's surprisingly too big for some SD clothes but too tiny for others. Why do I always get the dolls with the unusual body sizes that no one seems to sew for.

@AntarelNefertili Famous last words! I said when I got into this hobby, I am not going past 3 dolls. Then it was I'm not going to go past 7 dolls. And then I stopped counting and hence, my current situation of lack of cabinet space! That's pretty cool you play the piano. And I think it's cute that's where your dolls are displayed.

      • x 2
    57. I'm occasionally bewildered at how I managed to end up with 63 dolls when I said I was only going to have 2. I played the number creep game, too. Anything over double digits was too many. Then 20 would be too much. Then 30 was crazy. Then 40 was what would you do with that many? After I passed 40 I sort of threw my hands in the air and bowed somewhat gracefully to the fact that I had a lot of dolls and would likely get more.

I took out all my dolls for a group shot a few years back when I had about....45 or so. It took me an hour to get everybody out. I had three rows of dolls on my love seat and they barely all fit. I'd probably be at least 1.5 hours now and have to use the couch. I want to do another group shot but I also want to take it with everybody home which means waiting for 3 dolls and a body to finish being made.

    58. Oh boy, I don't know how I could manage a group shot with more than 10 dolls! With my crew I'm already taking a minimum of an hour (because I'm OC like that), but I guess one learns to be more forgiving with group shot posing when you have a lot of resin to account for. XD

And yes, @shirahime I do play the piano. :) Nothing concert-level, although I did do occasional choir accompaniments during high school years. The piano I inherited from my mother is one of those wall piano types, so the nice empty space on top has been claimed for doll use. (Note that only my two Impl hybrids are in this photo.)
