I will never buy a doll with my credit card if I do not actually have the money to pay it off immediately. (I had to get a Granado Lucifer while they were available in mature tiny size! Even if I don't really have a paying job)

So when i first got into the hobby, the HUGE trend was effeminate, or cross dressing boy dolls, done up with tons of cutesy clothes and accessories and i didn't want to be a sheep and follow the herd of owners with such pretty boys. I loved the idea but i swore i wouldn't be a copy cat, but my newest boy, reagan, is turning out to be just that. I feel such a strong effeminate/cute personality from him that ive already looked into getting him some cute playful clothes

 

Volks is too expensive, I won't buy it before I find my job. But now I am going to buy my second volks......They are too pretty!!!!

I said I'd never buy a BJD as way back in the day they were mostly anime style & I'm not fond of those. But a friend's doll changed my mind & I've been hooked ever since. I also said no child dolls but here I am with 2 Little Fees, a Peak's Wood FOF & another one the way.

 

I never thought I would own a volks doll.... because I either didn't like their sculpts or they were too expensive, I now own 5 and I'm happy to say I think they are worth the investment. They really are nice dolls with beautiful resin.

After going slightly over the top with my other collectables I was only going to have one BJD, then only one Tiny BJD then only one of same sculpt ..............I have now given up and having what I want

I will never want either a Delf Shiwoo or El, way too many people had them when I started and I just didn't see the appeal...

Tbh “I will never get Minifee!” Yeah I was one of those people haha. Now I own only Minifees and I’ve got 3 of them :P

 

I will never own an MSD/"young/kid" doll... then I saw a Soom Ace & Grey that stole my heart.

I will never spend more than $100 on an outfit... blew that one just this evening, but it was worth it.

 

I never thought I'd be interested in a Doll Chateau doll, but I started liking some of the facial sculpts. I also never thought I'd get an MSD sized doll, but some of those are looking pretty good.

 

I told myself 3 dolls was enough. But now I find myself waiting for my 4th doll to arrive.

 

"I will never have a white skin doll". I had nothing against then, just didn't see the appeal nor had a character who'd require paper white skin color. And now I'm anxious for my girl to be ready and sent home.

I've never really liked the idea of a white-skinned doll, but now I have my second one on the way. I kinda wish I had gotten the first one in peach or pink. It was a case of wanting it to look like the promo photos.

That's easy. I liked looking at other people's BJDs, but, "I will never buy one of my own." Which is kind of true when I think about it, because I left "one" behind over twenty dolls ago...

 

Order an Amadiz wig. They are insanely expensive it’s ridiculous to spend that much on a doll wig ...but somehow I ordered anyway.

When I first started collecting dolls I was dead set on never owning any girl dolls, and that I thought that Dollfie Dream/Anime Styled Dolls were the scourge of the earth.

Now I'm literally swimming in girl dolls and Dollfie Dreams!

 

This was kind of almost an attempt (no purchases have been made), but I told myself I will not have my first doll as a girl. And then...I fell in love with a girly I saw. Although, due to priorities, I decided against buying her. I was suuuuuuper close to getting her, though! Maybe...

 

I will never buy a doll larger than 65 cm. My last 2 have both been larger.

 

I will never buy a smiling doll. Smiling dolls are psycho.... So I must apologize my boy, because he is a smiling sculpt, and I fell in love with him in that moment when I saw him on IOS's website...

 

"I will never buy a fullset doll" and now I have one fullset at home and a second one on the way.

~Have a second one on the way and plans for for three others in the future.

~Bought my third for Christmas.

I will never own a doll bigger than an SD.
~Just bought a 65cm boy to go with my new SD boy.

I will never make doll eyes, I'm content with sewing and wig making.
~Currently make both polymer clay and resin based doll eyes.

I will never buy shoes, I will only make them.

I told myself that I will only ever own 3 dolls at most but Im already at my 6th. I said I would only ever own SD sized dolls but cuttently I am on layaway for 2 YOSDs.

 

I told my boyfriend I wouldn't buy another doll, when I get my first doll. But now, I have 6 dolls.

...Yeah. I had quite a few minis in the beginning (Serendipity dolls and a few Volks mini dolls) but firmly decided that SD sized dolls were for me. As much as I liked how big they were, I never did much with them. I shopped quite a bit for them, but I never tried my hand at making them things for whatever reason. Within the past year, I got a DC Queena, and since then, I've acquired some other mini heads. As a whole, I've been so inspired by my 1:4 dolls. I'm seriously thinking of letting go of all of my SD-sized dolls except for 2 and focus on keeping my collection. Decisions, decisions...

I have turned into a huge proponent of floating heads. In the past, I wouldn't view a doll as complete until it had a body. Now, I'm collecting quite a few heads and am 100% more than happy for them to share the 2 bodies I'll have for them. The thought of getting all the heads a body is just so off-putting to me.

@Gintsumi My YoSD is a boy dressed as a girl. I do have a Harucasting smiling Adori coming who has a genderless body and I'll be swapping them. My son is trans so I have no issues with cross-dressing dolls! lol

3. Treat dolls like people
--Yea..most of us are guilty of this I'm sure
4. Spend more than X amount on a doll
--....lol. I won't disclose what that amount is but I surpassed it over 2x on a single doll
5. Have dolls based on real people
--Again, first two
6. Have more than one doll
--2.5 years in the hobby and I've surpassed 20
7. Have a doll in a non-skin tone.
--Planning on 2 thus far, one already ordered in purple, another is gray

Oh, yeah! Now there are three, and i can't tell that it's all. Mostly likely it's only beginning.

I'm thinking of shelling one of my OC's, and if I do, I'm thinking of going with Rhea(Charm Dolls) Joyce (Charm Dolls) or Bellis (MaskCat Dolls)
But then I'm in love with Dream Valley's Mia, sooo...

Hard decisions come with this hobby, I suppose!

 

I never thought I’d wipe my first girl’s factory faceup. I definitely never thought I’d repaint her myself. But I’m glad I did both of those things, since she looks like how I wanted her to look from the start.

Justified by:
- One head was on discontinued list, and I wanted that sculpt badly.
- I really disliked original body of second head (this one does fave a face-up, actually).
- I need a head for particular body (which I didn't order yet, but it already has a character)
- I want to try to make a face-up, so I need more heads for practice.
