Hybrid discussion

I don’t have pics that I can share from mobile, but my favourite hybrid ever is my girl Azrael, who’s a Zaoll Luv head in a Doll Chateau y-06 body. I also have my withdoll Adriana/resinsoul hybrid, who I love, and an Iplehouse/Dollstown girl, and a feeple65/supergem hybrid who still needs a bit of modding that I might try my own hand at before I send her off. I also have one hybrid boy, who is a doll chateau a-04? And a dollzone Raymond head.

-soom gluino MV head (+dollzone gene winged body)

-I might put my f60 Lacrima head on an AS new 1/3 body, so I can mod her moe body to male and put a Kara Klum head on it

 

hear hear!! i love seeing other hybrids and enjoy the thought of having a place to specifically discuss them and share photos. i think my favorite hybrids that i own are ten, my crobidoll yeonho on a luts junior delf body, shion, my esthy peroth on a peak's woods dandy body, and alaska, my feeple60 halloween17 event head on a merrydollround petrichor body

 

I am a huge fan of hybrids too. I don't think I can chose a favorite hybrid among my dolls.
I am very happy with my Rover (Les Enfants Terribles Don on a Soom Super Gem body) because the match was not something I was expecting. These pictures are from when he was first put together.

i will be in this group as well, as im waiting new head for my impldoll male idol body. i will swich his head to black cherry nikky head. so it will be perfect hybrid for my character project. and one impldoll azalea head i will order mirodoll 62 cm female body as it looks not bad as well. i know some mirodoll bodys is baned but not this one so im on legal project.

Hybriding kind of came naturally to me (and I'm grateful to see this thread finally being made), as I tended to swap out a majority of the default bodies for my Pullips while I was still collecting them. So, when I moved on to bjds, it just came as second nature.

About 3/4 of my crew are hybrids. Some didn't have resin matches at the onset, but it wasn't too difficult to blush them to match.

I've had a few hiccups when finding the right matches between bodies (proportions, aesthetic, etc), like when I was trying to find a good body to go with my Dollshe Aramis head. It's been a real learning experience in shopping for the right fits---always checking measurements, looking for reference photos and doing extensive research---but it's been enriching and enjoyable with some great results. It's so lovely how customizable bjds can be to suit what your tastes are, and what you can achieve with swapping between so many different companies. It allows you to be so creative!

And, to add one of my hybrids---this is Azabien, a Little Rebel Kai head on the Resinsoul 70cm body:

 

Shucks, my only hybrids are out of need and caused by Fairyland. You know how they keep having events and then you have more floating heads than bodies? Well, I ordered bodies from Impldoll with resin matching so we'll see how that goes. I also ordered a loongsoul body for a doll where I have a rare character in mind. She needs to be able to pose on a skateboard and I think the loongsoul 58 bloom body version 1 will be the ticket. We shall see though! Impldoll did mistakenly send me a doll head (a Narissa human head) and I believe it was in a "real skin" color. Turns out she looks really good on a luts type 1 delf body of all things. The resin isn't too far off. The luts body was very yellow and even so the impldoll body has some pink tones, they just work well together! Anyways, here is that match:

Currently, I have 3 hybrids.

- Migidoll Jina + ClassyDoll senior girl body (pretty happy with this combi)
- Akagidoll Ban + Impldoll star female body (the skin tones are very different. I'm thinking of getting a matching skin tone head from Impldoll just to make it complete)
- Domuya Fin? + Custom House Ai SD female body (total disaster, disproportionate, not liking this combi at all)

I mostly own hybrids at this point. I am obsessed over proportion and height, and most of the dolls I like don't come with the measurements I want them to have. So, hybrids!

I have way too many pictures to post them all, but my favorite doll right now is made of five Ringdoll K heads, a Dollmore Model body and Soom SG jointed hands!

You know last night I was bad again. I was messing around with my Supiadoll with the new 65cm body and thinking I'd like another doll with that body, but something more mature, and I realized I had already spent the money on resin matching for some bodies at Impldoll, and decided to add a head. Supia matches close enough for me, the Fairyland resin I had Impldoll match, and now I can just hold on to that head until I can afford another body. I think it'll look really good on there But ugh, no more dollies! LOL

 

I currently hybrid three heads to one body. One day that will change but for now they all share my Spirit Doll proud with the Doll Legend jointed hands.

From left to right we have Orsino, a modified DL Chimera. Sir Thomas a look-a-like sculpt from Natrume; and the last one is Æthelstahn a Dika Doll Floyer.

I thought I'd share how each fits and matches. Orsino is the main owner/wearer of this body so him first.

He fits well proportion wise but he's much pinker than the Spirit resin, the face up draws it out even more. Once he has proper clothes to wear it wont be nearly so obvious.

Æthelstahn is an almost perfect fit, his resin matches near seamlessly. He;s meant to be my model doll who can wear anything, any style and not have it be out of character, so this good match is nice.

And then we've got Sir Thomas. Hella pale in the resin and I got him in the normal variety. Also, as @Spuggey pointed out in my box opening thread for him, he does look very bobble headed on this body. Not a great fit for him to be honest. My plan is to have him one a Granado Vigor but that's really a *someday* kind of thing.

 

I really love your Orsino, @PennyForTheGuy, but I can't help seeing the patchiness of the putty you used. So I wanted to point out that you could try smoothing it out by using Apoxy Putty the picture only shows one jar - there are two... You kneed them together 1/2 and 1/2 to activate the hardening of the putty. But anyway, you can smooth that stuff out with wet fingers or tools, just like clay and after it cures, you can easily sand it. I think he is so adorable regardless, but I wanted to share in case you wanted to smooth it out a bit

Yay a thread about hybrids! I love seeing others take on these lovely resin creations! Currently have my eyes on wanting get a SQ Lab SDG16 body but not sure what other resin matches other then volks.

 

two of my hybrids - My king Francis is blackcherry doll head nikky in normal skin but is more pink white could say and his body is impldoll idol FGB in real skin as is more peach colour so there is no colour match but with clothes on it looks not bad and girl is azalea head in special anti uv real skin witch matched not so bad with dollshe mango oriental skin ( body is classic 26F dollshe body ).

 

Oh boy, oh boy, is this the thread for me! Most of my dolls are large hybrids, most of my doll plans involve large hybrids, and I have pictures to spam so watch out. Also, I think the other hybrid thread was just a database (oh, and that one old ethics thread), but don't quote me on that.

Anywho, I have a Migidoll Ell/Beyours 65 hybrid. Went in blind since thanks to Beyours insistence on full dolls, hybrids are rare, but I got lucky and the mismatch is minuscule.



And my other current hybrid is my dark tan Island Doll Sparkle/chocolate Granado Female Nuevo. Almost didn't get her because even though I was enamored with Sparkle, I wanted a girl, and Island Doll only offered the sculpt on male and gender neutral bodies. Plus, a dark tan match is a pain. But I got lucky that when I finally saved up the money, the dark tans turned out to be pretty darned closed and saved me a good bit of money. It's so nice to finally have her together.

I also have an LLT Red Dove and LLT Lazuli waiting for a Guu Doll 60.5 body and boypink muscle girl body respectively.

 

Well, only for informational purposes, not out of the box solution, but impldoll did a perfect match with my custom color order to match Fairyland's normal. I got an Aurora head last minute thinking I would one day get her a Supiadoll 65cm body because Supia matches Fairyland quite well and I really like their (freaking expensive as heck) new body, LOL.

And the fairyland match was perfect too. The problem with Fairyland is that they have that mechanism at the neck. You can buy, and I have bought, these 3d printed versions at Shapeways. They work really well, but the heads don't have much range. On my Impldoll bodies, they can't look up down or tilt their heads at all without widening the opening of the hole to allow for a little movement of the chord, but even then the head only moves a little. If you look at Fairyland's neck piece you see it all slides around on a round bead embedded in a very large rounded area in the neck. This allows for amazing movement. The shapeways gizmo only allows for easy removal and switch out of the head, which is awesome especially if you change their clothes a lot.

Ultimately, there is a reason that the Shapeways neck adapter doesn't work as well as a simple S-hook. That is, when the pivot location is at the neck as in all other dolls, the point where the chord meets and wraps around the S-hook allows the head to pivot. And as I write this, I realize I can not just turn my heads into S-hook heads, and get the same results because the S-hook would end up too far away (unless I completely modified the actual head's neck opening, which I'm not willing to do) the neck opening in the Impldoll bodies are still too narrow, and the chords come out too stiff. So as I write this, I realize my best option is to continue to use the Shapeways adapter, and modifying my Impldoll body's neck to give the adapter as much range as I can, and just be happy with it

But The best part about these Impldoll bodies is the price, and they pose very well. The special color order was a one time charge of $50 for all the bodies and the head, which is incredible. I don't do nude photos, so the aesthetics don't need to be perfect, and the main look of the model bodies pleases me, though I have heard others don't like it, so???

 

Just FYI, getting a lighter head and darker body is a pretty easy solution most of the time. The head is going to be painted anyway, and it infinitely a smaller area to match than a body (well, OK, not infinitely, LOL) Here are a couple of my matches. I originally bought Impldoll's normal pink bodies for my fairyland heads. The match was awful, and I wasn't about to blush an entire body to match, been there, done that with an MSD size body, and I don't want to do it again (results were blotchy and easily damaged) So I ordered resin matching, which Impldoll did a perfect job on. Now we have to see how well they age together?!

Anyways, my point is I ended up buying a white skin Fairyland doll head to match to the body, and in my unskilled craptastic hands, I think the match is pretty close! Note, the doll needs wig and clothes and probably a second try on the faceup, LOL. Also, I got an Elfdoll Hazy in snow skin, which was yellowish, but extremely light, and I still think I did an OK / pretty dang close match to the other pink body. I'm also proud of her faceup, it's my best one so far. Practice does make a difference after all!

We're used to being careful with our heads, and if you have an artist do your head, send a hand or foot with the head, the artist can almost always accommodate this adjustment

That's true lol I just wanted to see what other options in have for heads but once it has a face up and wig it shouldn't be that bad. I've just seen some where they look like the same tone online then in person their way off lol and the cycle of reselling or buying starts haha!

 

Nearly all of my dolls are hybrids! Though I did just recently buy some older Dollshe bodies so my Saint heads are technically fully Dollshe now lol

Prior to putting them on Rhythmos and Pure bodies, I had one on an Akagidoll 66cm body and the other on a Doll Family-A 62cm body. The DF-A body was literally just a stopgap -- the neck was really too short for Saint and made him look much "stumpier" than he should have. But I will praise Akagidoll to the ends of the earth for use in hybridizing SD boys of all stripes -- it looked great with Saint and looks great with Aramis now, and my second Akagidoll 66cm body looks amazing with Little Rebel André (and worked proportionally with Rumpeldoll Morfeo even though the color wasn't right). Speaking of Morfeo, I took a lot of pics of Morf on various male bodies and found a lot of good hybrid options for it as well -- check out /threads/rumpeldoll-heads-and-bodies.774285/ for pics from lots of folks!

As long as I keep buying heads by themselves, I'll keep the hybrid train running.

Yaaaaay! Someplace to show off my little hybrid!

Right now, I just have this one hybrid. My Dina is a Dollmore Zaoll Dreaming Luv head with an SQ-Labs SG body, eventually when I get some more stringing elastic, she'll also have some DF-H jointed hands. Every piece had different colors, head was NS, body was real skin white, and the jointed hands were pretty much solid white. the color matching was so fun!

This makes me not want to wait for my next hybrid that should be coming in end of this year.

Not much of a drastic hybrid, but my dollzone gene head will be arriving soon to go on my DC a-03 body!!! I’m very excited

 

So a hybrid thread actually exists as a subforum in the Large Doll Discussion! My two large dolls are hybrids, but currently only the boy is fit for photos (the girl is undergoing a body upgrade -- will post again when she's no longer just a floating head).

Head: Granado Michael, New Normal (late 2016)
Body: Impldoll Idol male FGB, Realskin (late 2016-early 2017)

Color-wise, the match isn't 100%, but passable with blushing (Impl's colors are pretty erratic -- an older Realskin I used to have was even closer). Proportion is actually a bit on the pinheaded side because Granado's recent heads are pretty small. It also results in limited head mobility because the Impl neck is slightly bigger than what Granado's heads were meant for, but nothing silicone KIPS or sueding won't fix. Careful arrangements of clothes and hair make it a workable hybrid, though.

I´ve preordered a morpheo-head recently and am now searching for a good body to match. i am still very indecisive and unsure where to look best.

maybe somebody has suggestions? at the moment i am quiet intrigued by the old hound dollshe-body.

I was searching for some photo and can't find any. I'm looking a best body for my IoS Jade. Wondering if the Dollshe 28M will fit? Have you seen hybrid like that?

 

It's hard to answer that question, @Agata Z. Jankowska Are you wondering about a resin color match? The IOS Jade has a neck circumference of 12cm, so that's what I usually go by : that and shoulder width. The IOS 80 body seems to have wide shoulders, very wide. and I've seen pictures now that look like he's bobble headed (they look like hybrids)

I have no idea about the color, but the dollshe 28m says the shoulder width is 17cm , but does not say where that measurement was taken. If it is in the same location that IOS shows on their doll body (inner arm is 15.5) then it would be wider. For me, that would be a good thing, because Jake does look a little bobble headed even on his intended body, (but understand, I've been getting into more realism myself)

If however, that means the outside arm shoulder width, that's bad, that would be far narrower than the 21cm circumference shown on IOS's site. I don't think the 13cm neck would be much of a problem (again, that thick neck is nice and realistic on the dollshe)

So I guess what you need to do is find out what the real width of the shoulders are from someone who has the body. If it's at least the 21cm or whatever is shown on their website (looks like circumference) I'd say it'll likely be a nice fit/look. If the neck really turns out to be too big, I'd ream out the neck hole of the head a little leaving the neck alone because dollshe bodies are super expensive, and I'd rather mess with the head. and because any cutting done will show on the neck as lighter material, and inside the head socket it would not be seen. Hope that was somewhat helpful?

 

IngieBee thx! This is exactly what I wanted to know. I think that Jade's head look a bit funny on IoS 80 body - booble as you said. I want him to look as much realistic, as it possible, and this is why I'm still looking for better body. Need him to be big, and stocky. So, will search dolshe body real width of the shoulders.

Does anyone here know the resin matching for IOS and DZ normal skins? I want to buy a IOS head and a DZ body, but I can’t find much information about the two in the same pictures...

It's pretty obvious that Impldoll's RealSkin has gone a long way since 2016, with the older batches looking almost-white or a very light normal pink compared to the current. Also observe how wide the MGB's shoulders are -- effective for some sculpts, but not all. It's pretty good for Iplehouse heads too (the photo below is a peach gold IH Scarlet on the same body).

i added him beard and now want to change hairs so maybe he will be closer to his character. i like him more with beard as he was more ir girly side....

 

Tbh there is nothing better then getting 2 random doll parts, head/body, and having them match perfectly

 

I have my first hybrid on layaway- a Little Monica Sarubia head and a mirodoll 60cm body with small chest, both in white skin. I’m planning on dying her myself. I’m excited to see so many other hybrids

 

Ooo, this reminded me. My LLT hybrid is complete. Here's Ji-han:



WS LLT Red Dove on the 60.5 cm Guu Doll body. Good match, the head is a tiny bit yellower (faceup makes the match seem worse than it really is, next face up needs less yellow), but that might be age. I had a good interaction with Guu Doll, but others, not so much. And I think he is a tad pinheaded in person. I think getting smaller hands would help, but I am having trouble deciding on a pair. Hand sizing is hard to find when they aren't jointed.

 

5 of 6 of my dolls are hybrids, because sometimes for financial reasons you have to buy a head first, and then a body or just because the doll’s own body does not suit for any parameters.
I have such dolls as
1) Domuya Ida on April Story 16 years body
2) SpiriDoll on Loongsoul 73 body
3) Vezetto Dollclans on SpiriDoll proud body
4) Domuya Faith on Loongsoul 58 girl body, but I plan to replace her body with Loongsoul 63 body because to next to a tall man she looks shorty =)

 

Can anyone tell me if Fairyland Tan matches Little Rebel Tan?

@Pinkhairedprincess Fairyland tan is more pink than Little Rebel Tan that is quite orange.

I only have one hybrid right now, a Kaitou Asa (very small company) head on a April Story body. They look good proportion-wise! The head is a bit yellower than the body, which is paper white, but I hope to have it blushed sometime to match better. (And for now I just do some touch-ups for photos.)

Like some other people in this thread, I have a Rumpledoll Morfeo head I need to get a body for! It probably won’t be for a while, as I don’t even have his character worked out yet, so I’m not set in stone yet in case something better comes out while I’m waiting. I do have a few ideas though!

 

I have quite a numbe rof hybrids - and since real people's face colour usually isn't an exact match for their body colour, I don't see the point in being fussy about an exact resin-colour match between heads and bodies in dolls. As long as it's reasonably similar, that's close enough.

However, even resin colours that start out similar can age/yellow differently.

My poor MerryDollRound Merry is on a modded Luts Delf body. I noticed last weekend at a doll meet that the body has yellowed, and the face has faded and greened, so I definately need to do somethign about that degree of mismatch (I'm not into zombies)

I agree 1000% with your matching philosophy, @Teddy And your doll's are so adorable!!! I love their pinafore dresses, so cute!

Yellowed bodies are difficult, but as long as one isn't married to the Faceup, I have found it surprisingly easy to blush heads to match bodies. So maybe dying a body (which I have never done yet) and then matching the result with a new Faceup is an option for dezombification ? I'm thinking of trying it on an old Lutz body

 

Somebody suggested I try that for my poor Meri.

Still, only one hybrid doll whose head and body have discoloured differently among a large number of hybrids, isn't bad going, so I've been lucky really.

I got lovely even results on a Narsha body when I tried - but the head came out blotchy and uneven. I think it had been painted and wiped so many times that it effected the resin's ability to absorb the dye. I bought a new head, cheap in the sale, but haven't had the mental energy to try dying it to match the body yet.

Try blushing the head with pastels instead, @Teddy . It's less messy and you have far more control over the results. Plus it's easier to clean off, especially if you are in the United States, as our formula of Winsor & Newton brush cleaner wipes off layers upon layers of paint so easily, I use a soft toothbrush, and safely! You'd be surprised at how easy it is. Just get a good, non-bleading set of pastels, work in good daylight, and blush the first layer, seal and continue like a normal Faceup

 

I wonder how a Youth Dollmore Eve head would look on a Huajing Doll 1/3 body. The Huajing Doll body has a neck circumference of 8 cm while Youth Dollmore Eve Mio has a neck circumference of 7.2 cm. Does that seem like too much of a difference?

 

It probably wouldn't work with that big a neck difference.

I just looked aty the measurements and have seen the Hualjing 1/3 body neck listed as 8.5cm so it's an even bigger difference than the measurements you gave.

EDITED TO ADD: Ah - I see you were listing neck size of the version 2 body and I was looking at the measuremnts of the version 1 body. Even so, I think it's still too big a neck difference to work. The neck wouldn't fit into the cocket on the head.

Ahhhh… I’m sorry, I didn’t realise that this is the section for large doll, lol. Well, my other fave of big boy hybrid is this supergem Dia using spiritdoll 65cm body. Ns. The color matching is perfect.

I have an illusion garden head in WS-- I just ordered a DFH 70cm body so hopefully it looks good together!!

I now have an eve head (Emile) and I can try her on most of the bodies on my profile! (F60, supia double-jointed, dollfie dreams for a weird hybrid option and maybe new supergem?) Of any of those would help?
