How many of the same molds will you get?

Jul 6, 2011

    1. So far I own chibi Newt and regular newt. I also am in love with noble dolls raspberries so I am thinking of getting another eventually. My favorite sculpts are still by far by lillycat but I would definitely get more of my grail, Pandore I think.

    2. I have six Luts Borys, two Luts Abadons, three PeaksWoods Tristans, three Soom Ambers, two Soom Sullivans and two Leeke Khals

    3. I normally don't buy the same molds, but I have one bought as a back up head in case the the main boy has something unexpected. I am planning for buy the back up heads for my 2 other boys.

    4. I was just thinking about this the other day as I recently saw a secondhand doll available for adoption that was the exact same face and body sculpt as one of my own. I thought it would be cute to get him a twin... but the more I looked at that doll's photos, the more I couldn't feel the bond. Even though they were the exact same too! I guess my boy wasn't destined for a twin. I think I would definitely get multiples of a sculpt if they came in different skin tones, though.

    5. i keep telling myself i wont buy multiple of the same doll, but whenever my fave sculpts pop up for sale i actively consider it lol atm the only double i have is just an extra head because i'd like to get an eye open mod on one of them

    6. I believe I have a special love with Volks FCS-F-16, so they should be triplet in my house.
I saw a series of Kiriko at Dolpa 42 before, so may be another FCS-F-16 will come...

    7. Oh man, I would just keeping any version of my Volks Kun if I could afford to! My first doll was a basic Volks SD10 Kun in all her default glory. I later got a Yo-SD version about a year later. I just recently got a Dear SD version a few days ago. And I have on my watch threads a couple on the Marketplace that I'm not sure if I would keep for myself and customize or give to a friend that also appreciates the same sculpt to customize for me.

The funny thing is, I don't think she's even the prettiest of my dolls. She's definitely within my top four or five. :sweat I feel it's more sentimental reasons that I keep getting her. That, and I've seen a lot of owners' pictures out there to know how great she looks with different face-ups, eyes, and wigs. I remember when I first started the hobby that there was a member here that had a beautiful one that she customized that was tan/sunkist and I've been wanting to do something similar someday through Volks' FCS.

Oh dear...my husband just pointed out to me that we have two Volks Dear SD Megus and two Volks SD13 Jun Tachibanas. :? Hahahaha. I didn't get any sleep last night.:yawn The Juns are his so that's probably his sculpt that he would get a lot of. I actually like the Megu sculpt a lot too and probably would also get her in a Yo-SD and SD10 size if I could. I would also get more Volks Charlotte, especially in Yo-SD and Dear SD sizes if they ever have her in those sizes some day.

    8. Just bought a LittleFee Shiwoo that I'm currently waiting to ship. Number eleven.:kitty1

I'm a hopeless Shiwoo fan! :blush

    9. Yesss on the Shiwoos!
I have two SDs one in Beauty White (Now green) and a Normal Skin color. Plus an EL head, and incoming Harang head.
I will buy any CP head or full doll that's a decent price. :XD: It's going to end up being a problem if I'm not careful.

So...old CPs? I will buy all their sculpts a million times over. :drool

    10. I was like that when I first got into BJDs, and now I find that I'm starting to lean that way again. There's just something about old CP heads that I just adore!

    11. Well of course that makes sense! You and I started the same year!
Shiwoos and Els were the big thing. "Hound" was the first "realistic" sculpt out there and they became HUGE!
You basically had one of three types of Shiwoos or Els. Gothic, Pastel, or Feminine boys. As much as I thought they were too hyped up for the time, I'm now looking back on them with so much nostalgia since the aesthetics of BJDs has become so broad and there are so many different types. :love

I have been selling off some of my newer sculpts to get back my older ones, nostalgia is such a funny thing!

    12. I'm doing the opposite, getting more old CP dolls as well as a couple newer ones here and there. In December, I managed to find a body for a floating head I've had for seven years. To my luck, it was a Shiwoo head that came with it, so I ended up with a Shiwoo I hadn't had before, a Beauty White (Beauty Green) Shiwoo! :dance

I must have been the exception. My first Shiwoo ended up as a rock star, my second one as a crossdressing mangaka, and my third as a gothic/punk lolita. So one out of three is Goth. :whee:

    13. I have 2 Minifee Nanuri 13 girls (twins), which I think is fair. Although I also have 3 FeePle60 Lunnula modded sleeping heads...just because I love the sculpt and have a problem. I really want to change it to 2, preferably 1 Lunnula head but I really like them all, I also think I’m scared of getting rid of any of them because they’re so hard to come by.

    14. In the past I have thought about this question about buying multiples of the same face mold. I felt like the dolls are so expensive already, to keep buying the same face mold was kind of nuts. I buy a lot of the Fairyland brand dolls and really like the normal skin color. I had several of my favorites in that skin tone. Then I noticed the tan skin and realized I really wanted my favorite mold in the tan skin also, so I ended up getting ante in both colors. This was several years ago. Recently Fairyland came out with a Littlefee Cygne and I fell hard for her. I love her face mold so much I decided to get tan twins, I love them both. Crazy as this sounds, I was really wanting a normal skin one also. I feel like they look so different from each other I could pull it off. I got her and I was right. Then... I ended up getting a Cygne vampire Face plate ! So I have another Cygne. Four to count. I never thought I would end up getting so many of one mold. I love them all. I figure what does it matter. It’s all what I enjoy and nothing more. When I don’t anymore I can sell. Not a big deal. I’m happy and that is what matters. Same for anyone.
      Here are my Cygne girls.
      Littlefee Cygne

    15. Probably any Unoa, I could own a thousand of the same Unoa sculpt and still be happy.

    16. I would've just stuck to only my volks kurumi and miruku as the same mold in my little family of dolls. However, a my dear friend is a Volks F-01 Four Sisters mold lover. When you get beautiful spam like that, it was hard not to cave. Even though I swore up and down, I wouldn't. Well, crap. I bought one. I believe I bought a Yo-tenshi Una. I stared and stared. Dammit. It went. My dear friend turned me into a F-01 lover too.
I am not specific to which of the four sisters I want to collect. I want to have all four sisters, and if I could manage it, the fifth discontinued sister, Sara as well in most of their available sizes. My dear friend for example loves her Megus. I turned into ok, I started with yo-sds. Then I found the swd versions of the f-01's. So, I transitioned into the sd size. After that I took a chance on a sd F-01 with her eyes open.
So, I've come to terms that in a certain regard I have to have them all. I will say that as pretty as the sdm size volks offers of Nana, Kira, or Una, I hate the sdm body. So I am ambivalent of buying that size until I can find similar sized bodies that if I do plunge, I can buy in white skin. I've found I like the volks sdc body but, I've never seen ones in WS. So unas in that range are just really expensive floating heads at that point.
I do want to mention that through my one mold insanity, I've figured out that I've gone from the opinion of that I like as new as possible, to I really want the older ones. I am really into getting 1999 versions of one or two of the F-01 sd sisters I am still missing.
As for the Dear SD size, I am not a fan of the dsd body. Since certain versions of the f-01 that are older are more scarce, more ungodly expensive to get, I am ok with collecting the dsd version heads and sticking them onto other bodies.
I can make a note that acquiring them all a little at a time is fun, tough on the wallet but so much fun.
This mentality also stretched into similar volks sculpts. Like the sd F-15 or Shou. Or the Cyndy volks released. So....here I am still pining for other models, but I salivating at the mouth for more of the volks f-01 and its affiliates. A lot of people will find it crazy, but I have so much fun making them look wildly different from each other despite, the mold being the same...lol.

    17. Oh man... I can see myself wanting... so many of the Clever Littles. Right now, Party Martian's got no one his own size to hang out with, and I've never seen a color I didn't think was beautiful.

    18. I have doubles of 4 different heads. Just can’t resist the faceups on them. I love them all, so I decided to get an addition head instead of getting just the faceup.

    19. oman.. I have volks old number 9 head (white skin) and I was able to get Licht head later on.. they are basically the same sculpt so that's that.. and two 1st michaels + one one-off Michael.. and one normal skin one-off aya and one one-off white skin aya.. number 9 head is my very first bjd and I think I'm obsessed with head molds similar to it(as you can see). And also oddly obsessed with having different skin colors of them as well. I really want to get white skin one-off Michael but last time the person who posted it on yahoo japan didn't allow people from outside of the country bidding for it :/ Anyway, I have Anais, Chris, and mini Ken and some more but I am not really planning to get extra head molds for those ones.

    20. I have one Mei, Bobbiedoll/ResinSoul.
But I am getting a second one so I can do a Dark Tan upgrade because the light tan wasn't enough.
Maybe the range isn't as good as they can make it but because my son and I are light and dark tanned, then I want to get corresponding tans! After that, I may not get a repeat of a sculpt. Only because all people have variations and so do my characters!

    21. So far the only double I have is my Real Puki Aki and her Sleeping faceplate. To me she is one doll with two different expressions. I sold the sleeping plate that came with my other Real Puki. Now the only doll I can see myself owning two of is Atelier Momoni's Kitty M in two different colors. But I haven't even gotten one yet, so who knows if that will happen.

    22. oh I'm pretty sure if I had the money and were able to find them, I'd buy every single model of Luts Delf El possible lol. I just am obsessed with that cute face!!

    23. I have 3 Aidolls Hani, 3 Aidolls Uri, 2 doll love Youyou and 2 Xagadoll Tata now.

    24. I once had 4 Resinsoul Meis (a very neutral and easily obtainable sculpt) and it was a lot of fun experimenting with how to make them all look different from one another as stand-alone characters. But I eventually tired of that and branched out. Now all my multiples have specific character relationships instead: 2 Luts BabyDelf Gabriel Genies twins (different skin tones), 2 Luts 2010 Summer event brother and sister who are my gamers (I absolutely adore the sculpt and couldn’t resist), 2 Doll Chateau Lunas (as spooky forgotten toys). Now if I buy multiples, they have to have a relationship to one another and are always designed to be displayed together.

    25. I would definitely buy duplicates of the dolls I already own if I had the space and money to do so. I‘d showcase them in different outfits, different faceups, or even just different poses! Unfortunately even one SD takes up a lot of space, and the dolls I have were only available in limited fullsets, so getting duplicates would cost quite a bit of cash that I’d prefer to use buying clothes and accessories for the dolls I already have... or possibly saving up for a completely different doll :)

    26. OT but I have several vinyl dolls, and one mold can be made into several different characters as they are sold with a face-up and wigs/eyes. I have two of the same mold, and can't bring myself to get more even though I absolutely love that mold. I just can't justify spending $$$$ on what would essentially be the same doll. I think there's only so much variance with one mold; it would be better to pick up a different mold.

    27. Do you ever buy multiples of the same doll, and style it the same? I kind of want twins, but at the same time I keep thinking I might regret it since I could spend that money on a totally different doll. So I am torn!

    28. I have four Kaye Wiggs Talyssa's. All styled differently!

    29. I do have multiples of a few favorite sculpts, but there are always variations between them... One will be male and the other female, for instance, or one will be the standard open-eyed head while the other is the sleeping/dreaming version, or they'll be different resin colors, or at the very least they'll have completely different outfit styles, hair and eye colors.

No one doll in the set is likely to be mistaken for the other, in other words, even if they're both Heliots, or Adels, or F-31s, or Breakaways or whatever.

    30. I have five of the same head sculpt, but styled differently and on different bodies - male and female twins, an older sister an an even older cousin for four of them, the fifth is a floating head and there should be a sixth, but it went to an artist for a faceup several years ago and the artist has since left the hobby and stopped answering my emails, so I'm reluctantly having to write that one off.

I have two of another sculpt as brother and sister too.

      Teddy

    31. I've got four pairs of identical dolls and before I had three dolls of one kind. I never do twins, I try to style the same dolls to be as different as possible. It's like to explore the potential of a doll you like. And once I just couldn't decide what style I wanted for a doll I liked so I bought two and realized both ideas. Personally I think having two dolls which look the same is a bit boring. I like looking at photos of such dolls of other owners' though.

    32. I have twins that are the same sculpt but not styled the same- Jericho and Shiloh. I also have two FL Alicia mermaids in different color combos, Breakaway and Soony in different sizes and styles, and if the mail would stop mucking about I'd have two KDF Maskas in different colors and styles. Oh, and my twin DD Mikus- one is snow and one is sakura. So um, yeah, I have multiples, and even twins, but not styled exactly the same.

    33. I actually wish I could have the same doll twice, styled exactly the same. I think that's a super interesting and cool thing, visually.
But at the same time it feels a bit like a waste of money :chomp:

    34. My msd twins are different sculpts from the same company but I do have yosd triplets (2 boys and a girl) and the boys from that are both the same sculpt with identical faceups, just different expressions. If I ever shell their cousins I may do the same sculpts but with different faceups.

    35. I have a pair of Breakaways who are brothers, but they look nothing alike, and I have two Elf Chiwoo heads - both have been modded in different ways by previous owners, one NS and one WS - that will also be brothers when I get a body for the WS one.

Other than that all my multiples are either the same person in different styles or extra heads for the same doll. I love extra heads.

    36. I've never owned 2 of the same sculpt, but I see myself getting up to 3 in different resin colours since the aesthetic changes completely! My grail doll is iMda 3.0 Modigli, and I hope to get her in normal skin, in choco skin, and her sleeping version as 3 different dolls with different styles. She's just such a versatile and unique sculpt with so much potential :D

    37. Once they come in I will have 2 minifee Alicia's and 2 littlefee Cygne's, plus their sleeping face each. The duplicate awake face will be an alternate faceup. They will have a normal face and a "magical" face. I'm thinking facepaint markings, extra glittery, etc :chibi

I'm also gonna have all 3 faces of the winter event Dina. But her heads will be different characters, though they will share the body.

    38. I love the idea of twins/triplets and siblings in my crew, so I have a few of them now. I have two YoSD Harucasting Geuru’s, one the smiling face and the other normal face, plus a Big Geuru, their older sister in MSD size.

And then I have two Fairyland Minifee Halloween ‘18 event heads, twins Daria and Quinn, who both have ginger hair and brown eyes, but one has a darker faceup and dresses edgier, while the other is a bit more sweet looking and wears lighter colors.

and I’m just waiting for the right sculpt to come along to get triplets.

    39. I saw I had responded to this thread, but I knew it was not recently. And, I am surprised to see that my perspective has not changed all that much. Although I have "twin" SD heads, for instance, one of each of the twin heads is on a SD body while the other is on a Dear SD body. But, I do have three Yo-F01 girls - YoTenshi Una, YoSD Megu and YoSD SwD Nana. Each one, however, has a unique style and is painted by a different face-up artist, so they do not feel the same to me.

These days, I tend to be drawn to the same sculpts again and again. With time, I have developed a very strong sense of what it is I love versus what it is I like, I suppose.

Seeing this makes me think back to my collection back in 2012. It was so small and intimate but few of those dolls remain. I wonder, though, if I could achieve a small and intimate collection like that again. I shall have to think on that.

Here is a photo of my "twins" (left: Abella, YoSD Megu, right: Adora, YoTenshi Una).

    40. I don’t find myself wanting doubles. In fact, I don’t even like to buy more than one of the same body (I’ll buy multiple heads/face plates to swap out on the same body whenever possible).

    41. I'm not a huge fan of doubles except in certain circumstances (like if I was making twins or mirror versions or something). Then again, my favorite company is Fairyland and there's a million different face plates for me to experiment with so I've been able to branch out in that aspect.

    42. I feel like I could have multiples of most dolls I look at/own. I get so inspired by owner pictures, and take those ideas and run with them and create differences and personas in my head for each style I come across. I think I could possibly own, like, 10 of any one sculpt and have 10 distinct characters- that is by utilizing different skin tones, faceup, wigs, etc.

    43. I don't really like to duplicate molds, but different eyes/hair/skin tone/face up can really make a mold look radically different. I am not super opposed to it as long as the dolls look different enough. I don't like having dolls that look almost or exactly alike.

    44. I've only got one mold I MIGHT get another of--the minifee FLAM sculpt, which is my alltime favorite. But other than that, I really want to work on avoiding the same sculpt and having very diverse sculpts and bodies.

    45. I thought I wouldn’t be interested in multiple face moulds but I do have two versions of the Iplehouse Bichun, albeit in two different sizes. I have an EID and an FID. I would love another EID Bichun in a darker skin tone than the current real skin version I own, when space and time permit.

    46. Very interesting to see the many opinions.

Personally I don't think I would ever get a double intentionally unless the 2nd one was not for me. While you can manipulate the sculpt however you wish I don't think it is something I would be keen on.

    47. Most of the time I stick to 2 at the most, 2 or more of the same skulpt is rare for me. Now with that said, I went way overboard on my favorite head mold and own 11:XD:

    48. I wouldn't buy duplicates- unless I wanted to have identical twins or something lol

    49. I don't think I would ever buy a duplicate. I can see myself buying closed eye and open eye sculpts, or the standard and "romance" sculpts, like Luts does sometimes. I really don't think I could do two identical sculpts though.

    50. I would consider it. I’ve thrown some ideas around about doing some sort of “mirrored” concept—like a human version of a doll, and then a ghost version as well. I have far too many dolls on my wishlist to go through with it right now, but it’s still something I’ve thought about. Does the same sculpt in a different size count? I’ve wanted a Doll Chateau Bella for quite a while, and then when they released Mini Bella I fell in love with her too. I would love to have both even though they’re the “same,” but I also feel like their heights differentiate them.

    51. I have bought duplicates in different colors, but I would not buy the same sculpt in the same color twice. I know some people love to do this, but it kind of seems like a waste of money to me. I noticed that duplicate sculptures in the same color seem to be quite frequent in the Dollfie Dream and Smart Doll circles. Anybody else notice this?

    52. I tried duplicates in different colors a few years ago, but in the end I kept only one. Now I tried it again because I want to make twins and did not find two times the head in the same color (it's an OOS mold). One will be female and the other male. I may modified the female one for half-closed eyes, so they won't be 100% the same in the end.

    53. I'm exactly the same! I try to have all my bjds with a different sculpt. And for my minifees, I only have one body to share with 2 heads :)

      • x 1
    54. I’m so glad other people have multiple moulds! I have 4 OE elfdoll dami and 3 or 4 of the half closed eye one as well. I also have two of elfdoll Amy and two for oasisdolls yaoyue, Naomi and Linglan. Come to think of it, I have too many of the same moulds LOL but I love them!

    55. The only one I really plan on buying the exact same sculpt is kinoko juice haine. I have her in mint and want to make a boy version in lavender. That's the only one though.

    56. In my case, I am not planning to get a two or more mold of my girl. Except a really special one that made me enter to this hobby: Volks DDS Shimamura Uzuki.

I got Volks Shimamura Uzuki 2nd version last year and sold her 1st version, and found out that it's a very bad decision since I can't really let go of her 1st version. And she's really my first doll ever in my life so I got a really special feeling for her. Thus I'm looking to get her 1st version back right now lol.

    57. I had 3 lunnula mods at one point. Haha. It’s my fave sculpt and I loved all of their faceups. I am parting with them all now though. I have 2 minifee that are the same and they’re twins. I probably won’t get more then one of the same doll again in the future :)

    58. For the exact same sculpt in the same scale, I don't think I would want to own more than two, and only for a select few sculpts that are my absolute favorites. If the sculpt has some kind of alternate, like a human/fantasy or open/closed eye version, then I could stretch that to three, but I would only use that as an alternate head for a doll I already own, and not as completely new full doll. As much as I love my favorite sculpts, though, I don't want to have more dolls than I can handle, and if I'm going to get a new one I'd rather use my limited space to explore something new instead of something I already own.

Maybe one day in the future if I have the space and money I'll buy a duplicate sculpt of one of my favorites, but make them look completely different from the one I already own: ideally a different resin color, a different body, faceup style, even a different gender if the sculpt allows for it. I see a lot of people with identical twin dolls and the idea is so adorable to me, but I know I could never make it a reality in my own collection since any duplicate sculpts that I would own would look so different from each other that I doubt they could ever pass as twins!

    59. I’m unintentionally going to be the owner of two of the same sculpt. With the first doll of that particular sculpt that I bought, I didn’t like the resin color when it arrived (which was only a week ago). So I’m ordering it again, just in a different color. I’m trying to sell the first one, but if I can’t sell it, I’ll just come up with a unique look for her.

TBH, I’m not a huge fan of the idea of owning doubles, because I don’t want a large doll collection (as of now, I have 5 dolls). With such a small collection, I want every doll to be unique.

    60. I don't think I would get duplicates of the same mold intentionally. I enjoy having my dolls being identifiable from one another, I think it adds to their character and uniqueness. Having two or more of the same mold would just feel like I have a bunch of clones. Though maybe I'd make an exception if I wanted identical twins.
