i'm not sure if this has been brought up but i'm really curious as to how many of the same molds would you get if you reallyreally love the mold and just feel 1 isnt enough! for me its the mnf woosoo[since i cant afford the SD ones...] but the mini one is just perfect! i got 1 3years back and is planning to get another 1 hopefully soon with the sleeping head and a body for it so 3 woosoos! some might think i'm crazy and that i'm wasting money but just 1 mold could have so many different looks! and i just wanted to know if theres anyone that thinks the same
You are right! I always feel that there are usually lots of potential in each mold since one mold can achieve different looks depending on the wigs, eye, outfits, faceup and so on. Personally though, the most I'd ever buy the same mold of would be 2, and that would be my twins! XD
haha yeah! but if i where to get a new woosoo y not get the SP head as well and a body for it MUAHAHHA my excuse to get another woosoo hehe and they're not even gonna be twins coz if i where to think their twins they'll tend to look the same and everything they wear would be similar as well.
I have two Elfdoll Soah heads (one normal and one with closed eyes) that are twins and I have three dreaming El heads for the same character. The Els are all faced upped differently and modded to have a slightly different expression so I can switch looks without removing and redoing the face-up all the time. I also happen to have a LittleFee El and a Chic-line El, but I'm not sure if that counts. ^_^
I have always wondered why people buy more than one of the same sculpt (unless they want identical twins of course) but recently I have been wondering about getting a second head. I have a Peakswoods Skiya and have tried all sorts of other heads from PW to be her sister but I just love Skiya way more than the others and my eyes always go straight to her face. I wondered, why not get another Skiya to be her sister, do the face-up differently and so they are closely resembled sisters rather than twins... I probably won't do it but at least the compulsion to repeat buy heads is starting to make sense. I ahve always understood the desire to have multiples of one body sculpt though. Some bodies just pose way better than others and so why not get more than one for your favourite heads?
Two!!! Because I'm a sucker for boy-girl twins. I have 2 LTF Shiwoos (boy/girl) and both have their own open-eyed and sleeping heads
I'm planning on 5 ^^;; Bluefairy Louis is my favourite mould, it's one of the few I can never get bored of looking at. I currently have the msd NS and WS version but I also want the valentine head, sd version and yo-sd sized doll (if they ever release the last 2 and I hope they will xD).
I love Resinsouls Song sculpt. I have 2 (one in green and one in light tan) and would consider more if it fit the character. I love how different my boys are despite being the same sculpt, with the default face up. Quinn (Lt tan) has a bit of attitude and loves attention while Oren (green) is super shy and sweet.
Oh, I would definatly consider buying multiple heads of the same sculpt. With dollmore`s zaoll for example. I have a beautiful muse that I`m in love with. But I would like another muse tu be a more fantasy character and then a zaoll luv , dreaming luv , and a ramie wich they say is zaoll`s sister , but they have the same body and verry similar faces. So I guess in the end I am gonna end up with 5 zaoll dolls. I guess it sounds a bit much and exagerated , but I think this sculpt has so much potential ,and they can look so different and versatile that I just want them all , besides the dreaming muse , wich doesn`t really atract me.
I have two Minifee Marcia's at the moment and I want one more, on a different body. So I will have three in the end. I also have two Littlefee Ante's and if Fairyland makes tan Littlefee's, I will be getting one more. They all have their own look and personalities.
hahaha guessssss i'm not crazy after all!!!!!!! truthfully i've got more than 10 dolls back and forth but theres only 1 that holds me heart all this time and his my minifee woosoo![his like the 4th doll i had and i just love him when i saw the SD ones before mnf even came out] i could never get sick of his cute little face but others tends to come and go like the wind.. my very first dollzone cherry is staying with me though but i've got no intentation to duplicate her >.<
I have doubles of a number of scuplts. I like to make twins but seeing how different I can make the same sculpt look. The potential of sculpts I love interests me.
I have two minimee heads the same( they came in pairs), but they aren't remotely like each other now. I also have two Heliot heads ( it just happened that I wanted a partner for the other and a head was for sale), but I modded the eyes open more...
Right now I can't see myself have more than one of each. But I've noticed that I'm often drawn to molds that have similar features. But who knows what the future brings if I really fall for one.
See, I'm the other way around. I can understand wanting to have two of the same face-sculpt, but having multiples of one body... that feels odd.
I was thinking two would be the most I'd ever want of the same mold and went for twins (Migi Mihos) right when I got into the hobby. Lately though, I've been thinking of getting two additional Soom Dia boys on top of the one I already have, since the characters they'd be representing are supposed to look almost identical anyways. Plus, I have an undying love for that sculpt to begin with, so I'm quite sure I won't get bored of them any time soon. Now here's to saving up and debating who comes home first: them, or someone else from the wishlist. Decisions, decisions.
My thoughts exactly. Bodies are relatively expensive compared to heads, so I want to get the most out of my money.
At the moment, I have three, and I'll have four if Soom ever bothers to ship him. *grumble* Euclase is the sculpt I compare all other sculpts to when I'm out shopping. I love his elegant eyes, his little smirky lips, his narrow face. I did also recently get a tan DollZone Chen head, and I already have a white one, but I haven't any pictures of them yet as he just arrived. :3
I wouldn't mind having two of the same face sculpt for twins or something if the sculpt was right for them. I'm not so sure of having two of the same bodies with it though. Maybe it's just me, but if I ever do get twins, I think I would have one boy and one girl, rather than two the same sex.
I have several duplicate tiny dolls. I buy two of some dolls usually because I want to mod one of them and also like the original version. If I had another bright idea, I can totally see buying even a third doll.
I used to think I would never get two of the same sculpts, even if I wanted twins I would instead seek out two sculpts that were similar but still not buy two of the same exact molds. And after having two DoCs as my first dolls, despite having different head molds the fact that they had the same bodies drove me absolutely insane. So this further solidified my feelings of never wanting duplicates. Things have changed. I am so completely drawn to DiM Bellose and Kassia molds it's rather odd. When I brought my first Bellose boy home I was in complete love, especially as for the longest time I had completely overlooked the sculpt and bought the head practically on a whim. And long ago I had decided that if I were going to get a single girl doll for my group it was going to be a Kassia as she was the only female doll that had ever stuck with me long term. That plan still hasn't changed, however I've been on the hunt for two sculpts to embody my two twin characters. My rule for not wanting to buy two of the same sculpt to be twins still stood solid, but it never occurred to me that I could buy the same sculpt again for dolls not intended to be related. So now, I'm saving for another set of Bellose and Kassia, though sleepy eyed versions, to be my twin boys. I reassure myself that it's fine since the twins will have modified mouths and the fact that their eye shapes are almost closed make them different enough from my current Bellose and planned Kassia. It's sort of a confusing equation as I shall have a set of nonidentical twin dolls with different sculpts yet two sets of dolls with identical sculpts not intended to be twins. Oi!
I doubt I would ever get two of exactly the same mold, but Zaolls have done me in for mulitiples. I already have a dreaming luv, and a muse, I keep trying to convince myself that I don't need a ramie... and then I still want a normal luv... and that new dreaming muse... I'm doomed.
I'm planning a set of twins who AREN'T the same sculpt... but both heads are from the same company, to keep the aesthetic similar. I don't know if I would get duplicate heads for my own dolls' characters, but I have a DZ Hid and my friend is planning to get one too - they'll look nothing alike, their characters are completely different, but the sculpt seemed fitting for both of them. And since my dolls are usually over at her house anyway... lol, it's about as good as owning two of the same heads, since our dolls are tied up in stories together.
I have four of Dollmore's Kara Klum, and a fifth head whom I've been seriously considering buying a body for just for the hell of it. I can no longer guarantee I won't get more of them in the future...I can't help it lol it's like an addiction!! I also have Liebe Klum and Pado who are all in the same family according to Dollmore, and you can totally see the resemblance. I actually want them all to have the same body since they're all the same person, but that means no one else in my collection can have it (I'm not a body repeater either...). And because they're all one person, it means odd versions Dollmore may release in the future (tan or elf ears) are out. But sleeping and fangs I still have hope for... EDIT: the 5th head did eventually get a body this year XD I'm officially at 5.
Let's see here. I have: --four Shushus (did have five, but finally parted with one) - I would have her in multiple sizes if Fairyland makes a F65 and a LTF version --two Chalcos --three Lances (two big, one tiny) --two Juris(big 05, small 08, but they're basically the same sculpt) --if I get lucky in this Dolpa, I will have a Little Lorina (though mine is a boy) and a big Lorina If I find something I like, one is rarely enough.
I'm not much for repeats generally, though I don't mind repeated bodies. However... I do have a MNF Elf Shiwoo, MNF Scar Shiwoo and a LTF Elf Shiwoo, and am getting a Delf Shiwoo. And am sort of regretting selling the regular MNF Shiwoo head I had. I also have a modded dreaming Delf El and a modded sleeping MNF El, and could totally see myself getting more Els in the future. I've also got a MNF Woosoo and modded sleeping MNF Woosoo. And I just remembered the Puki Puki and LTF Pipis. CP owns my wallet. They do all look VERY different, though. Most people, especially non-doll-people, would never guess Ruth and Kale are versions of the same sculpt, for example, and I don't think Ciaran and Alexis look one bit alike. (I don't think the MNF El really looks like El anyway, it looks more like Moon to me.)
^_^ At the moment, I only have one set of the same mold; Soom's Pyrol and Minette. I didn't even realize they were the same sculpt though, not until I got them and saw their blank faces next to each other. :P That, and if it counts, I'll have both the sleepy and open eyed faceplates with my Dollshe Saint (if I ever get him). They'll be the same person at different times. His SA faceplate will have a burn, and the OE one will be scars. And if I had the kind of money to do it, I might even envision getting more OE faceplates, to put varying degrees of scar on his face, to show the progression of time... :P Maybe someday...
In general, I don't think I could ever repeat a sculpt more than twice (for identical twins or if a 'character' calls for it). However! If I were to win the lotto, I would consider tracking down one of each YoSD Four Sisters. I own Kira and love her to bits -- and deep down I'd love Sara, Megu and Nana, too. Oh! And Una (WS version).
I have three Esthy Peroths, two in NS one in WS they have been slightly modded to have there eyes a bit more open, they where supposed to look alike which was why I have them.
I have two Shiwoos, a regular Delf and a littlefee elf version. If all goes well I will be getting a mnf version very soon. I don't think I could do it in the same size, like two delf or two little fees since I have no plans for twins in the near future.
The most of any particular sculpt I've ever had at a time was three... For awhile I owned a trio of open-eyed BV Breakaways; one NS (Julian) and two BWs (Galen and Hon Mun). Galen eventually went on to another owner, but the other two are still here. I have quite a few same-sculpt/different-resin pairs in my collection. Original Breakaways and their vampire counterparts, BV Breakaways, Standard Shiwoos, both Type 1 and Type 2 Dreaming and Vampire Shiwoos, Standard and Dreaming Els... The dolls themselves end up looking different enough that it doesn't bother me. They don't look like "clones" of each other.
So far the most I have of a particular sculpt is two and those are a technicality. It's the male and female versions of the sculpt but the face is the same. I have Fairyland Bisou twins and I'm waiting on Soom Trond and Kivi. I have all the incarnations of Fairyland's Cupid on my wishlist, but I don't know if I'd ever get them. I think twins of anything is as much as I'd want. ^^;
^_^""" The last time I thought of this question and my answer was a straight NO. 1 is enough. Then later when I got twins Williams =A=..Ok....That's the only time it will be... but no (-_- ) now if you consider Scar Reisner as the same mold with Reisner then I already have a triplet at home OTL it's simply irresistible !!!>w<...when you fell in love with it +_+
I have two Lishes, it wasn't intentional. They are different resin tones, one has a custom face up and the other has default. They don't look anything like eachother.
I'm not normally a repeater (I don't mind body repeats if it suits the character well) because of the way I collect shelling characters not just buying dolls I like the look of, but I did wind up with two of the same mold. When I decided I needed to shell a particular character's brother I had to hunt down a second JDF summer event head 1. So I have two of them but they are not on the same body.
I would definitely get another DZ Cherry, because Yumeko and her mom are known for looking a bit alike despite their very different skintones. Yumeko's tan, though if I were to get Priss (her mom) she'd most likely be in pink resin (though there is somebody in the DZ waiting room who's getting a yellow Cherry so I wanna see what that looks like too).
I used to own 3 CP Delf Woosoos (one unmodded OE one, one modded OE one, and one vamp one with only an eyemod), but since I no longer collect/wish to own fantasy dolls such as vampires and elves (I feel it limits what I can do in terms of character) I sold the vamp head. It was kind of a hard decision to make since woosoo is my FAVORITE doll and I love them to death..but money was tight..I knew he wasn't going to get much play/face time..and I was able to find an incredibly nice woman from the local doll meets to buy him, so I can still see him when she brings him to meets. I've also had 2-3 els at a time, and 2 lishes. I have a couple friends who you'd think ALL they collected were els/lishe/breakaways. I know at least one of them has 5+ els, and 3+ lishes, and 2+ breakaways..and the others have about the same numbers. I see nothing wrong with having multiples of the same mold- if that's what you like, then that's what you collect. Who are we to say you can't have 10 of the same doll?
I have doubles of two of my Minimee celebrity heads. I guess I wanted to do different styles for them. I just cannot bring myself to purchase 2 regular dolls from a merchant because all I would think about is, "I COULD HAVE GOTTEN SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR THIS MONEY."
Two of any one head sculpture is my current limit. I have a pair of Wintery Sr Delfs from Luts, which became identical twins - faceups, hair, outfits, and eyes are all as similar as I could manage. However, it's not a set-in-stone limit, and there's a good chance one of these days I'll end up with 3 or more of the same mold.
I too, am guilty of one too many same molds and I would want more if I can find them. Some differ in gender, some in skin color, and whether it`s the open/closed eye version. But the head is still generally the "same mold". I enjoy having same molds with different faceups, as it makes each one unique and different. Up to date, I have.... 6 Remi/Colins , Sasha/F16/SchoolAx2 , LittleAlice/Lorina , WhiteRabbitOE/SwD. And I still want more Remi/Colin , Masha to be twins with Sasha (Resin difference), 2 more MSD20`s to make triplets, GrLorina to match GrAlice, if possible. I really like most of my dolls to be twins or more.
I have Volks Williams triplets 2 SD17 and 1 SD13. I love the Williams mold but I wasn't planning this at all, its just that they kept releasing them, LOL!!!
I wasn't planning on having duplicates of a sculpt, but I've got an oldskin white F05 incoming (it used to be the FCS Four Sisters sleeping head) and I already have my normal skin Megu. I will be modding the eyes open on the incoming head (the head has already been modded a little), so the expression on their faces will be different and their resin colours are different. I am a little bit tempted to get a sunlight skin F01 through FCS (just waiting to see if the SDGrG body becomes an FCS option because a sunlight Graffiti girl body would be a-mazing ) and a normal skin SwD head (for my current Megu, Mafonwen) and then I'll have four combinations of Four Sisters I even know what my girls would be called - My current Megu is Mafonwen (fair raspberry), my incoming F05 will be called Mefyswen (fair strawberry) and my dream FCS girl would be Melys (sweet), because they all have to have Welsh names I don't think it's that strange that if you've found the perfect sculpt, you'll want more than one. BJDs are versatile and they don't all have to look like twins or even siblings really. Dolls with the same sculpt face can look so different from each other, particularly if they've been modded slightly.
I feel the same about Zaolls! I have a muse, next I want a luv, then I'll probably want a zaoll boy mod...maybe a dreaming luv for him... Not that that's exactly the same doll. I do love the idea of twin dolls if I could justify spending the money on two dolls the same. I just love how some molds are so versatile and can look completely different with different faceups and wigs. However, I might be tempted to have different bodies. There are quite a few heads that look so interesting and vesatile I'd like to have two. Having said that, there are so many lovely molds out there I'm tempted to get a few off my wishlist before I start doubling up. I'm a little surprised how many other people like the idea of more than one of the same mold.
I'm planning on three Els. One down, two to go I think he's such a beautiful and versatile sculpt that it seems self-limiting to just have one! They can look so different with different faceups, wigs, eyes etc. Sometimes I've seen two Els together and not even notice they're the same sculpt. Plus they're my absolute favourite sculpt. I want more :P
I'm definitly planning on getting a few duplicate molds because I have OC twins that I'd like to make into dolls. I've only decided on one doll to be duplicated though and that's MNF Shushu, and I'd get her and her head and a male body.
I'd probably do twins for the same size molds. As for different sizes but same molds (like puki Ante, PKF Ante, and LTF Ante) I wouldn't feel weird getting lots of them. xD
I've been tempted to get another Soom Breccia. I love mine to bits and think she can look so different with a new face up. Everytime I see one on the marketplace I want to adopt her. Maybe someday.
I was always perplexed by duplicates, honestly. Couldn't understand wanting multiples of the same doll, when there's so much variety out there. Then when I got my Granado Boyd, I understood. Without even knowing it, I had (one of) my grail doll. Now I'm just itching for another body, at least, even if I can't pick up a head.
Haha, I won't ever have enough money to blow on a billion Doll-Chateu Bellas, but if I could I'd have one to be an elf, one for cosplay, one to be a witch, one to be a dragonfly girl, one to be a bird, one to be a succubus, and a human... maybe more that sculpt just has a ridiculous amount of potential. I might start to feel really weird having so many girls with the same face though xD I'd probably sell a few after fawning over them like one fawns over a completed art project, I guess...
So far, all I have are two dolls, but I don't see myself getting the same sculpt unless I had some twins or other multiples planned. Yeah, you can do a lot with every sculpt, but I can always change their looks if I really wanted to.
So far I've got twin Roderich heads and I've got one Edria head and I'm seriously considering buying two more. They wouldn't be triplets though. Two would be twins and one a completely different person and gender. So I guess to answer the question, as many as I can think of something to do with.
I have twin Custom House Hyuns, and despite them both being boys and both having default faceups, I have no trouble telling them apart. However, if it were a matter of just wanting more than one of a particular sculpt, not necessarily for twin characters, or for any good reason at all other than sheer appreciation of the pretty - then I'm with Cloudedmind; La Légende de Temps sculpts are probably the only ones so far that have really made me feel that pull. XD Every time I see a Roderich or an Edria on the Marketplace, I have to carefully and methodically talk myself out of pouncing on them. And if the Ludwig sculpt gets released this month and looks anything as handsome as the prototypes promise, I am sunk.
Two... I often think that I want twins, but then again it would be boring (sorry twin lovers) To have two dolls that looks so much alike... That is not for my taste x'D But I do have a doll incoming with two heads (Soom Adamelli) and I plan on using both heads on different dolls... But they will look NOTHING alike :P (despite the fact that one in human and the other has a horn and pointy ears x'D) I couldn't imagine my house with 3-5 different dolls of the same mold... @___@
Well, I do have a second Celaran-head (he's a Minimee, I got two). And also, a second Ark-head. Since both are kinda "replacement heads" just in case something happens to the original heads, I don't think they really count, though ... But I really do love Ark and if I had the money (and if Unidoll still were in business and if he hadn't been discontinued), I'd get another one. Every time I see one up for sale in the Marketplace I really have to fight the urge to get him. He's just so perfect, I want to buy him over and over again.
I don't think getting more than just one of a same sculpt is a waste of money! If you want it, then go for it! So many sculpts have so much potential to look different depending on what kind of faceup you give it/wigs/eyes/clothes/etc. Or... if you want to go for twins/triplets/etc with a similar-ish look, go for that too! Personally I don't think I'll ever be getting the same sculpt for a doll (unless there's a dreaming head I want/etc.) since I base my BJD's off my characters. I also feel attached to the "one" that I have. So having another might feel funny. Maybe if I make a set of twin characters that I get attached to.. but I don't think that'll be happening. I do admire those who can bring out a lot on their same sculpts though!
well when I started out in this hobby i could not imagine getting 2 or more of the same mold, I liked so many different molds so how could I justify having 2 of the same molds? But now I have 2 Fairyland Ante's (A Littlefee and a Puki) because of the size and ears they do look very different though. And I bougt a Soom Aphan which came with 2 heads (human and faun) the human head now also has its own body and char, so also 2 Aphan's. In the future I am still Not planning on getting 2 of the same mold (but who knows what will happen)
Probably 2 would be my limit, unless there were slight differences in the sculpts. For instance, I have a Crobidoll Lance and a Crobidoll Daydream Lance and they look so different that I consider them separate sculpts. So I wouldn't mind getting a third Lance as long as his face-up was nothing like the other two.
