Granado's Vindolls part 1

Jan 12, 2017

    1. @K-2! Thank you so much for the article and link--really useful!

    2. I just never liked his face sculpt to begin with, I think the only reason I bought him super fast was because he was cheap and I was new and didn't know how to shop properly :( I'm trying to get a refund right now on PayPal. He looks good in a lot of your guy's pictures but he's just not what I'm looking for. I feel kinda and tho :(

    3. You're not going to get a refund, unfortunately. In this hobby, you have to commit to a doll when you buy because they are custom made. A change of mind is not a valid excuse to the companies. You'll have to try and sell him when he arrives. Maybe you'll like him in person. Also, they are planning on releasing new sculpts, so if you like how the body handles, you can just sell the head off.

    4. Granado face sculpts can be... lumpy? Exaggerated features sometimes. However, they also tend to be very versatile too. Most people seem to play up the contours, but they can also be played down, if you'd rather he not look so 'strong faced'.

    5. Or stern. I think Udell looks very stern or disapproving. :vein

    6. Like a cross teacher!

    7. Heh, compared to some of the dolls in my family, Udell is positively cheerful-looking. XD

    8. You'll fall back in love when he shows up. :)

    9. @Osaka lol, that sounds intimidating. I'd love to see your crew even more now!

Compared to the happy big eyed anime dolls I collect, Udell is so serious.

Exactly @chalyss! A stern schoolteacher! Hey, you! No goofing off, get back to work! Ha, ha. He's big enough, no one will step outta line.

    10. @chalyss Is your guy the Bronze skin? It's a gorgeous color, whatever he is.

    11. Things like this are to be expected when a company jumps into a new field. Their experience with resin gave them a big head start with aesthetics and proportions, etc., but internal skeletons would be a whole new thing. So far the problems that have been reported seem to have been assembly issues, which are easy to address. Overall they did an admirable job.

Absolutely he was a success. One of the best things was that they stayed true to their doll line's strengths, the super muscled male figure. No other large vinyl manufacturer has a model that comes close.

    12. Yes! It IS a very pretty dark caramel color. Kind of close to Iplehouse brown with a lovely copper undertone.

    13. I think my Vinny has very sweet expression. Neutral not stern. But we do project what we want to see onto our dolls don't we. And the leg falling off is an aggravation for sure but I have learned to manage him most of the time.

    14. Like I said, we're early adopters. As far as we can tell, they do try to quality test pretty thoroughly, so I'm not sure we're beta testers precisely. However, the whole adventure is a learning process that will inform how they proceed going forward.

    15. I wouldn't call this first run a beta test since they are fulfilling all orders made. Last year Obitsu introduced a new 1/6 body to replace their old design. Their first sale of the new body was at last summer's Wonderfest, where they sold a small limited quantity. Over the next few weeks they fielded questions about minor problems with a leg joint issue. Then months later the body went on open sale. To me that initial sale is more of a beta test.
It will no doubt be months before we see longer term reports of the dolls strengths and weaknesses.

    16. @K-2! Thanks for the detailed article. Yes, thinking about it now, it looks like the transparent box is completely useless. Hahahahahaa :XD:

My Vindoll ... has not arrived yet! Yes, Brazilian Customs is like Snorlax compared to other countries! Hahahaha :XD:

Btw, Granado was worried about this whole delay (6 days) and sent me an e-mail, asking if there were any customs problems, because my doll got stuck there. That was very nice from their part. I'm having a surprisingly excellent experience with them from the beginning until now.:3nodding:

I hope the tracking number will update by the end of the week. Let's be positive. Then, it's just an extra week for the mail to send it to my town and if it gets taxed, I'll pick him up at the mail office. Otherwise, they deliver him to my house.

    17. @Alaris F. I hope you get an update soon! Customs sure can be a 'taxing' experience, lol. Here's to a fast delivery!

    18. I see only three people ahead of me who need to get shipping notices. I am anxious to finally see this guy in person. I do hope it's in August, over September. But it'll be fine if it's September.

    19. I still don't know from my brother if I have a tracking number yet or no. (I would guess "no," because he's very prompt in passing on that information.) I'd very much like one soon because I have had thoroughly too much of being a Highly Responsible Adult this week and want a new fellow to play with.

      :doh

I just realized I will invariably get a tracking number by tomorrow afternoon, so that my giant, well-endowed, manly man of a doll will arrive right during my prudish father's 2-week visit. He doesn't mind my dolls, but their junk makes him tremendously uncomfortable.

At least he doesn't really have room to ask if I'm sure this one is a boy.:sweat

    20. LOL! So true. That's becoming less of an issue nowadays.

      • x 1
    21. I guess you could display him in it. His own little dust free cabinet.

    22. That's what I was thinking. :)

    23. I yanked my poor Hound's trousers down to his ankles the very first time Dad asked if I was certain he was a boy. Dad has never quite gotten over it, but he was very polite to poor Rei after!

    24. I got my boy in bronze but I just can't bond with him at all, now to rehome him to someone who will appreciate him,

    25. awwwww... that's too bad, but it does happen. :(

    26. @Mrkendoll1 that's too bad. Sometimes you just don't connect with a doll.

@chalyss I see we have some snuggling going on. ;)

    27. Udell is a handsome lad! Plus he's BIG. He can hold his own against my larger boys. He's shorter than an Impldoll Idol but he's got bigger arms and hands are almost the same size. Sorry the pics are dark- my camera chokes on the color differences and I forgot to correct it.

Here he is next to a 65cm Starwoman and a 70cm Idol boy (EID size)

    28. He looks awesome @chalyss the comparisons are great. Thanks for sharing them here.

    29. Thank you for the comparisons @chalyss! They are very helpful to me. Udell can hold his own next to the big dolls!

I am so happy with my Udell. I was fretting over his big size, but the light vinyl does make a difference for me. Now big dolls don't scare me anymore. I look at him and squee, I got me a big one!

    30. Thank you! If you follow the pic link, you'll find more comparisons to see how Udell looks next to other male and female dolls. I know that can be of concern for many who are thinking about getting him. I LOVE how light he is and how much I can handle him like the brute I am and not worry about resin chipping. Not gonna give up my resin kids, mind you, but I like the vinyl a lot. Just be careful with posing as I have broken the ABS plastic skeleton before.

One more pic of the set. This one is a 70cm Idol girl, Udell, and an Asa YiD, 58-60cm (I think):

    31. Thank you for all the amazing comparison pictures. Udell is so beautiful. I haven't got any shipping notification yet. I hope to getitmon August. According to my count this Saturday will be the 50 days since I order him.

But I'm sure it will take longer than that :p

    32. 50 business days, not all days.

I love seeing how everyone is styling their men! I'm still waiting to hear who won that poll they did...

    33. My Udell -- now definitively named Finn :D -- is coming with me to the Austin BJDC vendor room today! Hopefully we'll have some fun together, and maybe find him some clothes (he'll be rocking his undies in public haha).
