Granado's Vindolls (Vinyl) - Thread 2

Jul 29, 2017

    1. Finn has clothes now! Still using the default wig and eyes, though, but still! Multiple outfits, even!

I put some quick (and ugly) pics of the clothes I bought and how they fit him in my Flickr, but I also took a few staged shots to show him off. I am not a photographer -- I used my iPhone and Flickr's built-in filters -- but I am super pleased with how these look!

At the Austin BJD Con today, someone had brought a doll-sized replica of the "i love you so much" wall that's on South Congress here in town. Taking pics with that was so much fun. Also, I found a great leather motorcycle jacket in the vendor room, but Finn's 1/3 scale Fatboy isn't here yet. We snuck out to the garage to take pics with the "big boy" motorcycles to tide us over. ;)

      Clothes bought:
      -Leather motorcycle jacket
-Leather motorcycle pants (too big, looked like Juggalo/rave pants on Finn)
      -Military green tank top
-Black skinny jeans (come up really high on him, and gap in the back, but his shirts will cover up the problem areas)
      -Red and black brief undies
-Grey/white striped t-shirt and matching socks (Hound sized, a bit tight but it's doable because it snaps up the back)
-Black zip up hoodie with grey printed roses
      -Coppery-shimmer Iplehouse harem pants
-Black/white checkered long sleeved button up shirt
      -Yellow dress tie

      Total spent: $60

    2. Awesome @emac! Great finds! Thank you for sharing! Now I'm thinking I should bring my guy to our local bjd con next month. It would be easier to find stuff for him. I'm going to need a stroller.....

    3. I definitely recommend doing it. He was nonstandard in nearly every way when I went to try stuff on him. The only thing I didn't try on before I bought it were the leather pants -- and those are the ones that look horrible lol. (But I'll just pass them on to someone else with a larger boy body eventually.)

Plus, people were definitely interested in him as a doll! "Is that the new Vindoll?" was asked more than once. :)

    4. WOW only $60 that's so cool I spend almost that in just a pair of jeans I order from Etsy :p

He looks so cool, and I love the name Finn it suits him perfectly :)

I'm so in love with your finn. All those pictures you took make me want to order another vindoll in normal skin. I need somebody to hide my wallet :p

I love all the outfits you got him and you are a great photographer. Sorry for fave almost all your pictures on Flickr but they were so good :)

    6. Thank you! Filters hide a multitude of photography sins, that's all I'll say LOL

And used doll clothes are the way to go, hands down. There's another swap/sale type event happening near me in October so I hope to score some more deals then. :)

      Thank you!

EDIT: Apparently this is comment #1000 in this thread! Woohoo!
EDIT 2: ...Aaaaand we got a new thread. No longer #1000 lol

    8. @emac what a haul! It must have been much easier on your arm to lug a lightweight Vindoll around the sales floor, vs. a heavy resin. :)

    9. Nice haul, @emac !! ^3^ (and new thread, wooooo!)

Still no number for me, but I'm so busy with Life right now that I haven't even had time to notice. o_o

    10. FO SHO

Though both of his legs fell off at one point (due to all the trying on of things), which necessitated a trip outside the dealer's room to do emergency surgery lol. Sadly, putting masking tape on the post didn't help -- it just kept the sockets from sitting flush. :(

Which reminds me... When doing a little spot inspection of Finn yesterday, I did notice some very slight pinkish coloring near his junk. He only had on his red undies for about 24 hours, so just FYI that the "less staining" vinyl formula might not be all that. :/

Also, his right leg is rattling like there is a broken piece of plastic in there! How do I take the leg apart to check? Granado had a tutorial on their FB page I think, but I can't find it. This PLUS the fact that both legs were extremely loose in their sockets last night, which was new, meant that I dropped a line to Granado on FB about it. They said they'd mail me a new lumbar joint, and also gave me this very helpful tutorial for reassembling the legs to hips.

    11. I'm sorry to hear about the legs, but I'm glad Granado will send you some replacement parts.

About the staining my Dollfie Dream gets stain with a few minutes of wearing dark color fabrics. So I say that's a plus. But my Smartdoll have been wearing her dark cap wig for about 8 months and she hasn't delevoped any stains yet.

    12. @emac I'm glad Granado is sending you new parts! I hope the problem isn't too complicated.

    15. Uh... poking in here to say my frame finally shipped XD
I'll update the waiting list when it gets here!

    16. @Sicktress congratulations on getting a shipping notice! I'd love to see pictures of the frame when you get it. Just the frame will be interesting, and no head either. Yes, very interesting!

    18. :nosebleed I LOVE his faceup. I was waiting for a custom one 'cause I really don't like the default. It just seems too light, like it's not even there.

      • x 2
    19. Oh, yeah, that custom face up is niiice! I changes his looks so much, you wouldn't think it was vinyl.

    21. Holy crap, he's so gorgeous. I could almost talk myself into a second Udell. :sweat

Mine is with Angel Toast. *vibrates with impatience*

    22. Looking the default face up in the promo pics, I had a completely different impression. Now I'm feeling kind of fool paying for it. I can't wait to receive mine and send it to my face up artist.

      • x 2
    23. Yep, I'm going to be adding scruffies to my Udell when he gets here. :3 I'm not one bit sorry I went ahead and got him with a face-up, since I haven't painted vinyls in a long time, but I will be enhancing the heck out of the default.

    24. Yay! Shipping notices! Wheeeeeeeee!

I am thinking of adding on to my guy's face up. At least the hard part is already done (eye brows). :thumbup

      • x 4
    25. I'm planning to enhance my guy's faceup as well. :)

      • x 1
    26. @kurogane --Truth! I always get that first eyebrow perfect, and the more perfect it is, the worse the second one goes. DX

      • x 1
    27. @Osaka so true! Eyebrows are the hardest! I've even tried to do them upside down to fool the brain into just making shapes. Ha! Yeah, my shapes end up one higher than the other, or one is too far back compared to the other. So frustrating!

      • x 1
    28. So the frame is here! Unassembled... looking to see if they have a video on how to assemble. I'm horrible at puzzles!

      • x 2
    29. Congrats. It will be so interested to see the frame by itself :) good luck with the assembling :)

I found out this Udell on Flickr and he looks so yummy and f$&@#%g sexy. He has the default face up but every Udell I have seen with the default face up always looks so different from each other depending on the style of clothing and posing. But to me all of them are super sexy :)

    31. Those face ups, especially the first one, are fantastic! I want to get a custom job on Finn, but I am not well-versed in who the good artists are. I know he needs freckles though!

    34. Finn's long-johns arrived! I bought the 70cm kind, they'll do the job. They certainly emphasize his... endowment, however. Lol

      https://flic.kr/p/Xd4w14

Sadly, the boots I bought are waaaay too big. :( The listed measurements online matched up with the ones I took of Finn's feet, but they are like adult shoes on a kid in person! I guess they'll be fine from a distance...

Nice use of the frame ^^ the ball joints beat the typical art mannequin and are more conceptual.

    38. So...my Udell finally arrived yesterday after yet another false start :doh (not gonna share any more details). I'm still trying to decide how I feel about him. He's certainly pretty, but his joints seem like I have to force them to bend and his entire right arm and left forearm keep dropping off. He seems top-heavy and I don't trust him to stand for more than five seconds, but at least he won't snap a finger or crack his head when he falls over haha. I'm actually scared I'm going to break him, since he feels so light and fragile and his joints don't move as smoothly as I imagined they would. But I do really like the texture of the vinyl and it photographs just like real flesh. A bit disappointed that his face is so shiny for some reason, but I can work around that.

Currently, he's wearing an EID shirt (too big) and EID pants (only too big in the waist but fitting everywhere else) and 70cm "Converse" from Alice's Collections. I discovered he can wear most of Tyler & Michael's shirts, which are 70cm size from Nine9Style, Bear Seller and M3 Studio. Wig size is 7-8 from Dollmore, although I don't think this is going to be his final wig. He's got 12mm eyes in, but I think he could wear 10mm.

      Here he is:

    39. I think he's amazing gorgeous and looks the best in Bronze! I hope you can bond too :)

For the face, would a magic eraser dull some of the shine? Though I'm not sure if it would erase the faceup.

      • x 1
    40. Congrats. He is so beautiful. I love the way you style him he looks so sexy with that wig.

I understand you about been afraid with posing him. The same happend to me at first with my Dollfie dreams but after many years I got use to it. I did ever got use at posing Obitsu dolls they do feel very fragile.

I sold my only resin boy recently, but I know what you mean about braking to easy. I accidentally broke hog back and upper arms when he fell off from the top shelf at a bookshelf while I was posing him for some photo shots. Since then I was so afraid to touch him. I was lucky and Iplehouse sold me the replacement parts :)

I can't wait to see what you do with your guy and how he will fit in your stories :) I hope mine is as gorgeous as yours.

    41. Hi guys

My Udell arrived. I'm very glad that mine seems solid and there's no lose parts on him. I also wished that they had not sealed the whole face with the shiny sealant and had used instead one of half and a half or a matte one. Or used it only on the parts painted. It makes his face look oily and very shiny when I take pics. Also made his face be darker than the rest of his body.

One of his eye well is bigger than the other so the eyes keep getting moved around when I changed the wig or put the head cap on. I did use the ear plugs to keep his eyes in.

Not sure if it's just my guy but he seems to have his face kind of squashed in. I kept messing with this face and pushing in his cheeks to see if the nose would pop out like I expected it to be. Not sure if it's because of how nicely tight he was wrapped in bubble wrap to prevent breakage, which I do much appreciate or if it's how he was pulled from the mold. What I really love about Udell was that he had great bone structure and beautiful angles but in mine his nose looks a little bashed in.

He is squeaky as all get out but he does hold his poses well.

      On the plus side,

I can turn his wrist around and up and down and he is solid. So that's great to see. No parts falling off him so far. Keeping fingers crossed. He also does not have any parts not being even on his frame. Yeah!!!

He is so light. Wow. I'm not use to a big doll being that light. Finding a right wig for him was a challenge. The wig I bought for him was too big and it looked ridiculous. I finally found this one that fit half decent.

I'm not sure if I can have more than one pic. I hope it's okay to put two.

This one shows his eyes. He is wearing dollbakery eyes in 12mm with the iris being smaller. They look good on him and they seem to work. yeah.

and here he is wearing the top and bottoms of the iplehouse white EID outfit I bought him so he wouldn't stain. They are a little big but at least he doesnt' look like he is sticking out all over the place. If you know what I mean. He is also next to a nYID Stella to compare how he would look with her. He would work just as fine with the SID's and EID in my opinion.

[IMG] In this picture he is wearing his original golden glass eyes, but I didn't like them like I thought I would. I like his silverish looking ones above much better.

PS. I did take pics of him with eyeco eyes in 11mm and they do fit nice in him. So that could be another option. What I did find was that the Urethane eyes had more life to them and in him I liked them better.

PSS. Sorry Forgot to say Congratulation to SapphireStarglazer on her Udell coming home.

    44. The bronze skin really is lovely!

What kind of matte sprays work on vinyl? I know some people use the similar spray coats to those used on resin... but I know very little about customizing vinyl...

      • x 1
    45. @april I have used both msc and zukiemura (from Volks) on vinyl. I prefer the zukiemura brand over msc, just for everything, but especially vinyl. But that's just my two cents.

I don't know why both of the most recent bronze guy's faces are shiny. My tan guy's face is matte, same as his body. I wonder if a different sealer was used?

Anyway, both are gorgeous and are styled so well. I wish I knew the secret to make my guy look awesome too. He just looks so blah. Owner issues, not the sculpt, lol.

      • x 2
    46. I'm wondering if it's the darker color... I've heard that the typical sprays can sometimes look foggy on really dark RESIN... maybe the same happens on darker vinyl and they have swapped out the type of spray? OR maybe they just ran out of the other spray and have tried using something else on a few dolls, which makes them a tad shinier? --But, I think if people want to try and cut the shine a bit or make the color look closer to the body, they can try spraying the body a bit... I've sometimes done that when the sprays make the resin look darker and more matte than the bodies... it can help a bit.

Interesting to know people are using the same sprays on vinyl. Thanks, @kurogane . :kitty2

      • x 1
    47. I use Testor's Dullcote (sometimes topping off with Testor's Glosscote) on all my dark dolls. It doesn't "ghost" as much. Actually, since I started using Testor's for the dark dolls, I just use it all the time now. We tend to have higher humidity here and it doesn't seem to be as temperamental as MSC is with humidity. I've only faced-up one vinyl doll, but like everyone else, used the same sprays, pastels and acrylics.

I was interested in Granado's vindoll but it's starting to sound like the resins are more poseable (or at least easier to pose), despite the weight.

      • x 2
    48. I also use testors dullcote for my obitsu. Never had any problems with it.

      • x 1
    49. Thanks for the congrats, everybody! haha I don't think I've ever had such a hassle trying to get a single doll home. Hassles, yes, but not quite like this one. :XD: Anyway, for better or for worse, he's here now and I'm attempting to make the best of it.

@Bren - congrats on your guy arriving, too! I'm sorry his face is so shiny. Your guy's face looks even more shiny tnan David's. It's somewhat of a comfort to know it's not unique to him, but it's annoying nevertheless. Your guy looks awesome, too. The blue eye colour is certainly striking with the dark skin colour.

@AnitaS - I'm a big fan of Testor's Dullcote, too. I've used it on dark resin and fantasy coloured resin with no issues of clouding or ghosting, and I also live in an area where the humidity is frequently high. I actually have some here right now, so when the humidity goes down to a reasonable level, I may try it.

@kurogane have you posted pics of yours and I somehow missed it? Admittedly, I've been MIA for a while...

@MrFjmg2003 - Since you said you needed all the pictures you can get, here's another one of D. I made him a hat, so he went outside to show it off in the best light.

    51. He looks so cool. I love the hat and his belt :) I wish I had the talent to do things like that. What size of pants is he wearing?

Thanks for accepting my instagram request :)

      • x 1
    52. @april - thanks very much! haha more spam is not a problem. ;)

@MrFjmg2003 - Thank you! And it's no problem...I followed you as well. :)
He's wearing EID size pants from M3 Studio. They were snug on the bigger boys, but they're perfect on David. they're a bit big in the waist, that's all, but that is what belts are for. ;) Turns out he's got lots of clothes to choose from here. He can wear most of the shirts I have for Tyler and Michael (nYID Oscar and Justin) too. The only shirts he can't share with them are the form-fitting ones. He even can share shoes with my EID-size boys, so I really don't need to buy him much. I need to finish making the rest of his jewelry, and he will need some socks, but other than that, he's good.
