Granado Tiny Doll Discussion

Apr 21, 2018

    1. BTW...the wigs I made using Pookii (FL puki pukisha) as a model fit like gloves!

    2. Where did you get your wigs? They look quite nice!

    3. i commissioned some chinese wig makers, i found them on the idlefish app and used a shopping service.

    4. Vindalootoo, the pose-off is great! It's really informative. And special thanks for the shoes-on pictures, now I can see what shoes of the kind look like on the guys.
Now I want my boys NOW! Waiting is tiring.

    5. I'm glad it was helpful!

Re: shoes. I included them for two reasons: they help with posing, and are easy indicators of who is who! :D You'll see many totally justified laments about getting shoes on and off these boys. I finally just said something I shouldn't repeat here and took a utility knife and just sliced them down the back. (The yellow ones went on without a problem...softer plastic) Once I did that, they worked on quite easily and the plastic snapped back into place securely. Shoes are a problem for this size. I'm hoping I can make them so I don't need to go with plastic, but we'll see...

Oh...the rest of the Arrival story is now posted! I goofed and called it part five rather than six. Oops....

    6. Anevai has a face! And a new wig. Not sure it's her final of either, but it'll do for now, tho I'm going to make a try at eyelashes, and a little cleanup. It's only my third faceup and the first I've done in years. They certainly are tiny! I used a friend's pastels and acrylics last time and I've got to find out what brand she had, because the pastels I got are too weany color-wise, and the acrylics just wouldn't flow reliably off the brush, even with medium. But I think, for a first try at this size, she turned out OK.
I've also got to make her eyes. I've got the mold coming for small iris eyes. Hers are supposed to be dark brown, but I kinda like the bright gold!

    7. Oh she looks gorgeous! They ARE very small--that's certainly not a bad result, either, especially given the size and those issues! The eyeshadow color is so pretty.

    8. Thank you! She doesn't stand up well to super closeups, but I've got to get some better magnifying glasses to fix that! Oi!

    9. Really not bad! :3nodding: It's a challange to do a face up on such a tiny face! BTW how small are Granado guys' faces, like in comparison to a barbie for example?

    10. They're about Barbie sized! So pretty small...

This is a slightly (very) blurry photo, but you can see my thumb in here with two different Granado heads for scale. (The one in my hand is Shadow, and the other is 30Garden.) Garden is the smallest in terms of head/face that I have of all my Granado boys, just so you know!

    11. @Idoru Thank you so much!
:aeyepop: Oh, those faces are so tiny! Have no idea how I gonna paint my guys when they arrive. But it's really good to know what to expect and brace oneself for the task :mwahaha

    12. The biggest problem I had was getting the paint to flow reliably off the brush, and I found she had a tiny, tiny divot in her eye opening that I couldn't see until a photographed it. Also, I'm wondering if flat MSC rather than matte might be better, tho it won't pick up the pastel color as well, having less tooth, but if I have problem with the boys, I might, on the next go around, do a layer of flat, do the acrylic linework, then set that with matte for the blushing. It's kind of backwards. I got a bottle of high-flow golden black, basically airbrush paint, that I'm going to give a try with.

Mostly, on this go-round, I was happy to discover my old hands are still steady enough with the brush. Whew. It's the old eyes that need help. Her brows look much better in person.

    13. @Vindalootoo Hmmm - I'm curious if there'll be any noticeable difference between types of MSC. I believe eyebrows are the most difficult part to paint, I sometimes struggle with them even on MSD faces :sweat
I'm sure practice makes wonders though!

    14. I didn't have any trouble with them on my ChicLines, which aren't that much larger. (I used to do a graphic novel and did a lot of inking.) But I was using a friend's equipment and paints and I don't remember (it was several years ago) what paint she used. I found with this one that getting the paint to flow reliably off the tip of the brush was...a challenge, which made me press harder and get a thicker line. As I say, I'll let you know if the high flow paint makes a difference.

    15. @Idoru oh, how I wish I could have gotten a garden for one of these boys! Better than this one for JP.

JP got a face today. I want, eventually to do a little modding. The mouth is a little small and lacking humor, which he needs, but overall, it's more successful, esp closeup, than Anevai's. I need to get the guts to do actual black eyebrows for him. :D I'm not crazy about these super small iris eyes. I think they're 2/6. Another half mm would make a lot of difference in getting him to focus and not look startled. Might feel different if I manage eyelashes.

And I need to do something about his wig. He's got one eyebrow raised and it disappears in the wig.

    16. I just went up to Granado, and my Ascent order is listed as "awaiting shipment." That sounds like a good sign, yes?

      • x 1
    17. It does! Mine is in the same status! Thanks for the heads up!

    18. So does mine, it said "Processing" the other day!!! :sumomo:

    19. I emailed a couple weeks ago to ask if it was possible to change my order to a different resin color, and got the answer that it was too late to change my order since it was already being made! I just hope he is noticeably different than Rowan who is Normal resin. My new one is Windfresh, which is pretty similar.

    20. Okay...They're different, but it's more a matter of tone, NN is a bit yellower. I wanted a greater difference, so I'm actually dying my Windfresh with Chocolate Rit Dyemore with just a touch of the Magenta. The head was actually an R. Dean Jei, but the color match was perfect for the Windfresh. Haven't actually dyed the windfresh yet.
Here's a link to my adventures in dying/faceup project. Oh, this pic of the busts shows the difference between the two pretty well:

Oh...here's the little guys. Zen and Adagio are NN, Vigor is Windfresh
      [IMG]

They are different enough to look best in different colors, if that helps.

    21. I ordered Lucent in tan to take the place of the tan Lucifer I ordered when I didn't think there would be more. He will become the new True (on right), beloved of Lyric.

    22. @SteamWitch: ooooo...they'll be pweddy together!
@Gallye: that is a nice wig, isn't it?
Still waiting for that shipping status to change to shipped!!!! :D

    23. How neat!!! Who will the other Lucifer become, and which body did you order your new True on?

    24. I'm REALLY into Lucent... I don't know what I'd do with him, and I still have a disembodied Shadow, but... He's so my type. Granado, please, I'm begging you, stop doing this to me!! (Or don't, that's cool too.)

    25. I just recently came across this bjd company and at first, I questioned if they're legit, to which people says they are. Their bjd are cute and beautiful. I'm also really tempted to buying lucent, he's so handsome.

    26. Thereโ€™s no question, theyโ€™re very much legitimate.

I made a deal with myself that if I can finish enough outstanding projects during the order period, Iโ€™ll be ordering Lucent. Heโ€™s perfect but I also donโ€™t need to add to the to-do list without crossing something off first :sweat

I do wish I could find more photos of the amber resin, I still havenโ€™t really seen anyone ordering it. I like the tones of it more than tan when I look at the lineup even though it looks palerโ€ฆ but if itโ€™s too paler then itโ€™s a no go. I might just risk it regardless, weโ€™ll see.

    27. Thank you, I really love their characters. Chapters worth of love. :love
I'll just be swapping heads on the tan body. True and Lyric will remain themselves but won't be twin-like anymore. Not sure what to do with the extra Lucifer head atm, but I'll think of something.

    28. Trying to plan a December trip around the arrival of Noah/Ascent, so asked Granado if they had any idea of the shipping schedule. Got an answer: they plan to ship in December! :D :D :D Ah, well. I'll just watch the shipping info and have it held if I'm not going to be here.

    29. hi there! may i ask some advice for shoes for a small vigor? i thought some shoes for action figures without pins might work, but i'm not sure about it:roll:

    30. @xatshe Action figure shoes do fit even the Vigor. Finding ones that they actually state as hollow (not pin type), is hit or miss though. I bought a set, two pair, once from Amazon, one pair was open or hollow, the other was a pin type so I was disappointed to pay for two pair when only one worked.

      • x 1
    31. Thanks Robin! i do google already some 'hollow' and add it to my cart, but i wasn't sure if it's really fit, because most if the time it's a plastic shoes, so i wasn't sure about width :aninja:

    32. What I found was the hard/stiff plastic is a pain, the soft flexible plastic worked fine. I think if you contacted the seller and asked if the shoe is flexible, it might help with the success ration. With my hard ones, I just cut a slit down the back so I can get them on and off without wrenching the foot. The stiff plastic pops back into shape fairly readily. On my pose-off, the yellow ones are the soft plastic, the other two are cut at the back. It's not optimal, and I don't like this kind of work around, but it doesn't really show much and it means you haven't totally wasted the money.

    33. I can confirm this too--I have the best luck with soft cloth shoes/true faux leather, but the hard plastic DO work if you're willing to work AT it... (I heat mine up in some water from the kettle so they're flexible to take them on/off.) I've had some soft plastic shoes not work at all, but they're few and far between.

    34. Anyone else getting the holiday special 15Lucent? I had talked myself out of getting one but, the size, oh my, heโ€™s so tiny! My 30cm Napoleon is still my favorite doll, so a 15cm Granado guy, too good to pass up.

    35. I will be ordering one!

      • x 1
    36. I ordered one in Windfresh. I'm hoping he will arrive in July or thereabouts. A present from myself. I like the way Crocus changed the knee and elbow joints, so they aren't so fragile, like the Zen body knees.

      • x 2
    37. I broke down and ordered one in white. I think he's going to be Pookii's alter ego (Bwahahahaha) I have no other excuse for getting one this size. But giving Pook an excuse to add a new magic trick to his arsenal works for me!

Anyone else wishing they'd never started checking the shipping status of their Ascent? They obviously didn't make the December shipping plan. Sigh....

    38. All three of my Granado orders state 'awaiting shipment', so I'm just checking once a week. (liar liar pants on fire :sweat)

    39. Hate when companies do that. You just ask them about the shipping date to know how long you should master your patience. Who forces them to promise something they can't do :(

    40. I totally understand what you're saying, but I'm willing to cut any small company a lot of slack, and one where one guy really does all the work even more. When I asked the end of November and they said "they hoped to get them shipped out in December", I kinda figured it was a real process.

I don't know if shipping is done by someone else, but all it takes is one person getting sick (worse, getting covid) to really put a cog in the wheels. I just wish I hadn't noticed two months ago that it was "awaiting shipment" which implied he was done and sitting in a box. :D I've never checked status before...just waited for a notification in my email, so timing didn't bother me. But the last shipment I got from G, I didn't get an alert, so I started checking. BAD mistake!

    41. Interesting. Both my orders are back to "confirmed." Hmmmmm.....

    42. Unexpected, this is, and unfortunate (c)

Really counted on getting the guys before two weeks of holidays. Now when my winter holidays are finished I don't care much about when the dolls come, won't have time for them until May anyway. Unless they're super cute and huge fun to play with and I might neglect my work a bit for them ^^
      Ah well ~

    43. I know. It is frustrating. I'm betting Covid is in there somewhere. Sigh. Sorry about your holiday plan messup.

      • x 1
    44. Covid interferes all spheres all over, that's true.

Vindalootoo, thank you for your support :)
Hey, I actually got my tracking number this morning. And feel happy about it.

    45. ARGHETH! You got my hopes all up, but noooo. No tracking # yet. Funny factoid...my new little 15cm is showing as "awaiting shipment" on the order itself, (not on the order summary page) and my much older order is still just confirmed! :D Consistency is a wonderful thing. Not that I have any business thinking about them, since I've got LOTS of sewing to do for the batch I got last fall. Almost ready to take on the craft room and get to work at the sewing machine.

Hah! just in the time it took me to write this, the Ascent 31 order changed to awaiting shipment. Timing, the essence of comedy!

    46. Sometimes I think they put those statuses at random :sneaky
Now I really do hope this time your "awaiting shipment" is true and actual shipping is a matter of days or even hours!

    47. No kidding! I've got two of my small crew on hold. One's body is the Ascent and another needs the Noah head that's coming with! :D

    48. Still waiting on my two boys and a tiny one for Ash's birthday (his own doll)
Rune decided to sneak into the pub to see the dinosaurs on the wall.

    49. I just sent another query to Granado on shipping. Just asking if there's any news, and hoping no one was ill. The Ascents seem way overdue. I wonder if the whole shipping from China mess is affecting their decision to ship or not.

    50. I got my Ascent 31 , Noah and Shadow couple of days ago, but the funny thing is I also ordered some wigs from some chinese artist in China and its not even done yet . So both of my boys are sharing one wig. My dolls ship faster than wig

    51. My Ascent hasn't been shipped yet but I ordered him in windfresh. I wonder if that could delay him.

    52. I wouldn't think so. I ordered a normal the second day of the sale and it hasn't been shipped yet, either. they said in November that they hoped to get them shipped in December. I'm sure there are lots of reasons. Sigh...patience is a virtue...... :D

@chinadoll Oh, the frustration. As I mentioned above, I ordered him on the second day of the sale! Wah! Patience......

    53. @chinadoll You mean, they actually arrived? :D Congratulations! ^^

I wish mine would move already :(

@nancy_schroeder_ca I don't think the color is an issue since one of my three boys is in wind fresh. May be Granado have their own peculiar queue list :huh?:

    54. Heard back from them. THEORETICALLY he'll be shipped "very soon." I heard that two months ago, but at least I know the order wasn't lost! :D

      • x 1
    55. I got a package of Mattel Ken shoes bought from Ebay today, and the two pairs that are a softer plastic fit the Granado guys' big feet.

      • x 4
    56. Argh. The Evolve 32 is out and it's gorgeous. WHY doesn't he do that kind of flexibility in all the bodies? I'm tempted to get it just to copy the elbow joint for all my guys. The inability of the arms to rotate at the elbow is kind of annoying. These look like they might.
