Favorite company?

May 25, 2014

    1. I have been out of the community for a very long time, but Luts and Fairyland will always be my favorite companies in terms in sculpts. Soom and Dream of Doll has/had a lot of sculpts that I enjoyed. Always wanted a DoD Shall and was one of my dream dolls. I remember at the time when DoD released Duncan, I didn't like his sculpt at all and didn't understand the hype for it. Now I really want a Duncan because I fell in love with his sculpt.

    2. I will admit, I'm a bit of a sucker for Fairyland. I love the aesthetic of them and while I have dolls that actually pose a bit better, I can definitely see myself getting more in the future.

    3. Hmmm, I went back a few pages and didn't see that anyone had mentioned Alchemic Labo too recently!

Whatever it is about their faces, every time I see one in the wild, I pause for a moment and feel so much joy - then realize the doll must be another Alchemic Labo doll!

I also just think the idea of being able to change out the faceplates is fun, and gives so much potential. Definitely my favorite company so far... for the dolls, both to design and play with.

    4. So far it's definitely Luts but I am quite new so my opinion might change in the future ;). I love their sculpts and the fact they always offer tan skin as an option.

    5. My heart belongs to Volks. Many years ago, before I started to collect dolls, I discover the Lolita fashion.
Gothic & Lolita Bible was my access to everything that was in the Harajuku scene. So, when Volks presented the collab with Baby the Stars Shine Bright, I fell in love.

    6. Harucasting is currently my absolute favorite, with Fairyland following closely behind. Also really love Bimong and Supia Doll a lot. :love

    7. Right now I'm obsessed with just about every Maskcat sculpt in existence, and would love to own one sometime soon!

      • x 1
    8. Now it's Iplehouse. I love their sculpts, especially female ones and really love female bodies they make. Maybe they're not the best at posing, but they're very aesthetically pleasant for me.

    9. I am Doomed, I mean SOOM (Idealian). LOL. I love SOOM Idealian.

There is something about their faces that reminded me of time may have already past or may have yet to come.

    10. Volks is my favorite company. They were my first doll and I adore their collaborations with BTSSB, Disney, and various anime. I am also a big fan of Dollshe (though I currently don’t have any).

    11. I am really curious to know what are all the many different companies that design BJD. I am mainly aware of Volks (that's where I started) but after being on DOA, and seeing all the many different types of dolls, I am curious to know where they're all coming from. Feel free to share some of your favorite companies or even solo designers. Thank you!:3nodding:

    12. Although I dont have any doll of them yet, I love everything cocoriang creates.

    13. My favorite right now is Atelier Momoni. I have 5 of her dolls and one on preorder that should be here the end of summer/beginning of fall. The artist is based in Spain, and her dolls are by far my most favorite of all the dolls I have owned so far. I personally like the size as they are not too big, nor too small. They pose like no other doll I have had, and depending on how they are painted can look older or younger.

    14. At the moment, Luts, Volks, and Maskcat.

    15. I like Volks for their continuity-of-service (resin consistency between years and batches, availability of replacement parts + refurb services), Angell Studio for their fullset concepts and execution, and Dream Valley and Doll Chateau for the way their sculptors make creative choices about body design without straying toooo far into dysmorphic/uncanny valley territory.

Honorable mention to ResinSoul/Bobobie, because while their aesthetics can be hit or miss, they deserve all the customer service kudos for making the hobby accessible on a budget and for their willingness to do special orders or customization.

    16. My favorite company overall has got to be Volks. They have an aesthetic I really love, and I've literally never seen a nicer resin than theirs. Truly, the quality of their dolls are top notch.

Fairyland deserves a mention for engineering. Hang around long enough and you'll start hearing stories about how amazing it is. Let me tell you, they deserve the hype. They've had some serious quality control issues in the past, but those seem to have been sorted out. They're not my absolute favorite company because TBH their aesthetics don't match mine perfectly, and their resin isn't my favorite either...But the way they pose keeps them in my top five.

Another favorite company of mine is Soom. My absolute favorite dolls have all been Sooms, and the only thing keeping them out of the top spot is that their sculpts are very hit or miss for me. I either Love Them or Hate Them, with no in-between. Their resin isn't quite as nice as Volks resin, but it's still very good.

Rosen Lied also makes the list. Most of their dolls are outside my preferred size range, but their Holiday's Child and Thursday's Child lines are GORGEOUS. Their customer service is also very good, and I love the clothes they sell for their girls! I love their whole aesthetic, really. The only things I don't love about them are that their resin is kinda so-so in terms of texture (like Fairyland resin, it's too light and smooth for me. I prefer a denser, toothier resin), and their Holiday's Children are single jointed. But overall I highly recommend them!

And then there are the companies I haven't actually bought from (yet), but whose dolls I always find myself drooling over...As to those, Maskcat Doll takes the cake. Their girls are stunningly gorgeous. Loongsoul, Switch, and Dear Mine are also consistent winners.

But I think my favorite company whose dolls I haven't managed to snag yet is La Légende de Temps. They're an extremely small company, and pre-orders tend to be very limited...So far, the timing's never been quite right for me. But one day! One day...

Anyway, this list barely even scratches the surface of all the excellent companies out there! If you want to get a wider idea, I recommend browsing Legend Doll or Dolk. They're both reputable dealers with a wide range of companies on offer. (My favorite dealer is Alice's Collections, but her selection is much more limited)

      EDIT:

      In reference to this:
While Bobobie and ResinSoul are related companies, they're not quite the same. Bobobie's customer service is...rather bad, actually. It's ResinSoul that's known for their excellent customer service. And boy, do they ever deserve that praise! They're well known for making basically anything you can imagine. They're happy to do custom colors or help you hybrid different dolls of theirs together, and their prices for such services are extremely reasonable.

    17. Hmmm, my absolute favorites?

Volks, La Legende de Temps, and Mori9 are at the top of the list at the moment.

    18. Universe Doll and their sculptor Musen is my absolute No1. Yeah I Am into big boys. The 70cm body is a great poser, and as detailed as a doll can be. Second one is Doll Chateau. Me is a happy owner of a DC youth girl. Dream Valley is a nice company too. My third body is from them. Oh and I Am in love with Granado too. I not own any dolls from them. (But My mom owns a tiny) My lovely heads (for my big boys) from Ring doll and Immortality of Soul. Those are probably in my top 10 too. As you see I try to own something from every company I like...

    19. I have a LUTS and Resinsoul so far, with a brand-new Souldoll hopefully arriving in July. So far, I am in absolute love with LUTS so far. And they're just stealing my heart even more now with their new Muse line.

    20. My favorite company is definitely Dream Valley! I love their 1/4 sculpts, especially the fantasy event ones. They're super unique and stand out from other MSDs! The two 1/4 dolls that I own from them are great posers, too. I also have a Dollzone girl (but she's quite old and needs restringing), as well as a Dearmine Picasso who is very cute, and a 2D Doll Light, but 68cm is a bit too much for me :sweat.

I have an order in for a Dream Valley Order, and just got the other wolf-taur, Chaos, in-stock yesterday, so he should be on his way soon! Order and Chaos are such a great duo, but I'm also a big fan of DV's mermaids and giraffe-taurs. :D

    21. Meeksdoll, Dollshe. I have also owned a lot of Luts in the past.

    22. I'm a huge fairyland fan. Once my Miwa gets here, fairyland sculpts will probably outnumber any other company in my collection. I just adore everything about their dolls, the faceups, the pose-ability, the design. Mostly though, I love their fantasy line stuff.
My fiance's favorite company is aimerai and their mao collection. We're accruing a little group of just aimerai and they all just look so precious together.
As for companies I'm obsessed with but don't own (yet), I'm sure you can find in my post history me talking about rugged realism. I'm so in love with their newest collection. I also second Mori9 - they have gorgeous sculpts, if not impossible to get- and I love Lost Chronicle. Very detailed and realistic heads, I just haven't had a place for one in my collection yet.

    23. My favorite companies are :
      - Fairyland for the posability, the elegance of the molds.
      - Cocoriang and Le Mouton en sucre, for the good mood they inspire me.

    24. Dollmore, Ringdoll and Granado with honorable mentions to Luts, Fairyland (though I really only like their older stuff), Iplehouse and Dollshe (for their bodies).

    25. Oh! So many!! Most likely Dollzone.

I have mostly Dollzone, but I also have more then one from Doll Leaves, Mystic Kids, Luts, Ringdoll, Doll Chateau, Doll Family :love

I do like Resinsoul and Bobobie, but they are not the best posers.

    26. I'm still fairly new and I feel like I end up gravitating towards some of the major big companies like Luts, but I know I like a lot of the sculpts from Little Monica and LoongSoul too

    27. Volks. and some of girls from ringdoll (which is now discontinued, sad)

    28. It's hard...

Aesthetically, Iplehouse has really won me over and I can see them making up the bulk of my collection moving forward... but Resinsoul was my favorite customer experience, in terms of getting great, fast communication about my doll and being able to really go wild with resin color.

    29. At the moment my favorite is withdoll.

    30. I am a total simp for dollchateau. I've pelted them with money practically this year and plan to continue doing so when work picks up again at the end of the year. Mainly the youth dolls. I love the shape of the body. I just wish it came in flatchest.

    31. I like Ringdoll for now. The have very interesting dolls and stuffs.

      • x 1
    32. Right now my favorite company is Luts, and I've been eyeing more and more of their sculpts.

    33. I like DOLLCHATEAU. Their dolls are veary unique

    34. Dollstown and Elfdoll from the early days. The beautifully sculpted bodies and the expressive faces of Dollstown were always a draw, and those early Elfdoll girls had faces that struck a note in me (Ryung, Lydia, Vivien...).

Sio2 more recently. Something about the Sio2 SD heads gives me that same thrill I got when I was just entering the hobby. The fact that there's so few of them out there means I'm always crossing my fingers someone revives the company specific thread out of generosity of spirit.

    35. I always love how iplehouse sculpted their doll head with so much dimension. It just makes it easier for me to visualise the face up I will put on them. But I also have an eyes for Idealian boys too especially River. I wish they would resale him again!

    36. I adore and love Meadow dolls. They look so real and pose like a dream.
But I have the great luck in the world and honor to work with Meadow.

    37. I like Doll Chateau because of how different and unique their dolls are. They all seem to come from an alien or fantasy world. And even though I don't own a Luts, I really appreciate them from afar, they are all so cute.

    38. I used to be a huge Dollshe sculpt fan for years, but thesedays I have been also really into Soom Idealian and Ringdoll sculpt aesthetics. All of these companies make great quality dolls. Also Loongsoul has been winning a place in my heart recently with their sculpts and resin.

Plus, I must mention Dollmore, because I love their customer service and communication, it has been always really easy to order from them and orders come relatively quickly.

    39. Ringdoll and Migidoll, only cause I actually own dolls from those compaines. It would be nice to own all the Miho face sculpts though. But as far as BJDs from other companies, I'd say I like Switch, Soom, and I Have Doll. I do like specific BJDs from Soom and I Have Doll. Switch, I think I just generally like the way their dolls look even though I haven't found a sculpt from them that I would like to own.

    40. I really love the facial sculpts from Impldoll. I don't have my own BJD yet, so I've really been taking it all in, and I always come back to the Impldoll Melissa

    41. Certainly Merrydollround. The balance between stylization and realism is just right and I love the unique features.

    42. Oohhh, I like those!

    43. Impldoll is really nice! I have been considering bying Aigne for the longest time :D

    44. I think my number one fav company would be Iplehouse just based on my wishlist. Gorgeous sculpts and so many options. The second fav would be Dollstown for their beautiful bodies.

    45. Hard but think my Nr.1 Peak’s Woods as that was my first doll from ,but must say still love the dolls from them and Nr.2 Dollstown great body’s and that my friend Val make the look fantastic in their face ups and outfits

    46. my favourite company hands down is doll family specifically H but i also love a lot of A sculps.
i adore many ringdoll sculps as well but i can't see ever buying one unless it's second hand

    47. i like old fl/cerberus project dolls and dream of doll (rip)

    48. I got my first MSD from Dream Valley late last year, and love looking at their quirky fantasy dolls. They remind me of a mix of Dollzone and Soom's aesthetics. I'd like to own at least one more.

    49. My boy is an Angel of Dream and my girls are both from Doll Leaves. I got so many questions about my girls and where I got them.

My bestie likes CP (Fairyland) and they have quite a few dolls from them.

    50. Old Cerberus Project (like the old Luts Delf and early Fairyland).
Ignoring business practices and just going by aesthetics, Dollshe is also high on the list.
I also really like Dream of Doll and wish I had more. Would own them all if I could lol

    51. Oh, this one is hard. Back in the day, I really loved DollZone's style. I mean, the age my dolls are, back from the early 2010s before they changed the first time to become stylistically more like Doll Chateau. Currently, I have my eye on some Luts dolls, but I haven't looked around a ton cause I be broke, lol.

    52. That is easy for me. 5 Star Doll. I have 3 of them and want to get a couple more. I have SD Tumnus, SD Edmund, YOSD Rex and YOSD Quintus. I used to have an SD Becca and a YOSD Vivian but sold them a few years ago because I was having financial trouble.
Many of their dolls are sold out, so I hope they are not going out of business. I would be very sad. I still want a Keven, a Bright and another SD girl if they ever issue one again..

I'm also a huge fan of Resinsoul/Bobbie dolls. They are inexpensive, well made, imaginative, and have good customer service.

    53. Cerberus Project/old fairyland will always be my big favorite, 'Im sad I didn't hop on the chance to grab more sculpts before they all got discontinued but I currently own 7 diff dolls (4 of them are still just heads though) from them. Volks and soom are also up there for me as well as Unoa. There are some independent bjd artists I love as well like Frappzilla and DigiDolls.

    54. Depends on the size! For MSD and lower, I adore MYou Doll. I have one of their mature 27cm and one of their big babies, and it's a struggle not to order more haha.

For SDs, I adore Loongsouldoll. Their bodies are gorgeous and pose so we'll, and their faces have a lovely delicateness to them.

    55. I just ordered my third Granado, all the newer Tiny Model line. They have more mature face sculpts than many dolls this size, and great posability. I've recently become an admirer of Dream Valley's surreal beauty. My first MSD is one of their winged ones, and I'm wanting one of theirs with a third arm too.

    56. Granado all the way baby~

    57. For me it’s definitely impldoll, I just randomly saw a photo of Alma and never forget it.

    58. Does Atelier Momoni count, since it's pretty much just one person...? I love Lola's dolls so much!

Also MYOU, the dolls are nice, they pose reasonably well for reasonable prices, the sculpts are generally attractive, and my MSD Delia is basically the easiest doll I have to clothe. Her measurements are almost exactly 1/4 scale versions of an online pattern company's. Can't beat that.

    59. Supiadoll, the Rosy has haunted me for many years :)

    60. Asleep Eidolon, their 1/4 girls are so pretty!
Doll Chateau, too, their sculpts are hauntingly beautiful.
They're the only companies I'm hoping to own more than one doll from.
