Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 64

Mar 26, 2019

    1. congrats! My Lucywen elf is one of my favorite dolls, so pretty *-* You'll have to share pictures. I use 12mm eyes for mine (and for the regular Lucywen I used to have), with regular iris sizing. Mine wears a custom wig but I used a 6-7" Leekeworld wig (and a couple Fairyland fullset wigs from other dolls) for my regular Lucywen, and I doubt they're significantly different.

@Animethemed, the colors you've picked for your Ria are so fun! Did you dye her legs? The gradient looks really nice.

I'd second Kirahfaye on antiquing for doll furniture, although it can take a long time to find good pieces >< You have to like antiquing for it to be worth the time, but it makes finding good stuff extra exciting. The bucket chair style phone stands you can find at places like Claire's are tolerable (if short) for modern-styled dolls too.

    2. thank you! :D i'm hoping he'll be home by the end of the month but there's no way of knowing for sure. it's been a long wait searching for him, though, so this is fine. :P
i wasn't really sold on lucywen till i saw it as an elf in tan, even though dolls with teeth are some of my absolute favourites? of course by then the preorder was over and the only way to get them was secondhand.

i might go for 14mm since i want mine to be a little more doe-eyed i think!
your boy is gorgeous btw!! :love:love:love i didn't know anyone else had lucywen elf as a boy! :'D i love his wig, he's such a fancy guy! :blush
i was guessing i'd have to have a custom made one, i just hope i don't have to send him out. x_X i just want something short-ish and fairly simple, but with parted bangs.... why are boy-style haircuts so hard to find aaaa..... _(:,3ใ€โˆ )_

    3. :O! thank you!

    4. Thank you for the suggestions! Sounds like I'll have some shopping to do. :) Is there anything in particular that I should look out for or be aware of when antiquing? I've never gone shopping for antiques before.

    5. just popping in to ask if anyone has an iru to show off? mine came and i'm trying to decide how to do her faceup :D i've got pics of her blank on my instagram (tskonk) <3

    6. exciting! Good luck with the last stretch of patience ^^ Glad that gave you a comparison for eyes - everyone has such different taste in them it can be hard to know what to recommend. Thank you! Yeah, I feel like I don't see too many of that sculpt in general but with all the different platforms and methods of tagging who knows. I made that wig b/c I wanted the specific texture/color mix, but it would at least be worth trying premade wigs if you can find a style close to what you're looking for. I don't think the overall size is unusual, although the ears make things a little trickier. Hope you can find one ^^

@Denovo I guess I'd say patience/knowing you probably won't find quite the right stuff right away even if you spend ages sifting through musty kitsch, and trying lots of different shops to figure out which ones you like, if there's a variety near you. As an example, near me there's a high-end antique consignment shop that often has (fairly expensive) salesman sample type doll-scale furniture, or a couple general antique stores where I mostly find roombox/diorama decorations, or more thrift-store type places. Find out if there are antique fairs/flea markets near you where lots of vendors come to sell stuff - those can be fun :3 Just know around how much you're willing to spend before going, too ^^; and consider what you can improve on if you're crafty; a little repainting or simple cushions can go a long way (probably obvious advice but). And there's always EBay if you decide you hate antiquing ;)

    7. Ok, one more spam of my ShuShu and I promise I'll stop, lol!! Just lovin' her in red <3

    8. Paid off my Iru today. Hope he comes in soon!

      • x 1
    9. thank you! it's always the shipping that's the roughest part of the wait. xD
i know! plus different companies' eye sizes can be different. like my makos are bigger than the acrylics that came with my bluefairies of the same size, and i think they're bigger than the ones that came with my FL Rucas? :o
i've been browsing premade wigs and nothing quite hits my fancy so i think the poor boy might be bald for a while until i can commission a wig TToTT it's impressive you made that wig though, i'm so jealous! i wish i had that skill..! owo<3
      well, lucywen elf is pretty rare in the first place, since i think it only came with the $1k+ full package if i'm remembering right? she certainly wasn't cheap, i think that was actually the most i've spent on a head... o////o;
so that might explain the relative lack of them. i feel like i see more lirias tbh lol (tho she is the hot thing right now, at least on my instagram feed! : o

    10. Thank you for all the advice! Sounds like antiquing is going to be fun, just a bit time-consuming. Haha~ Hopefully, I can get some furniture set up for Iru before he comes home. :kitty2

Congratulations! :celebrate I'm waiting for my Iru too~ :dance

    12. Has anyone seen any owner pictures of the Iru fullset? I find it strange that no pictures have surfaced yet even though the fullset was released back in February! Iโ€™m still waiting for mine but Iโ€™m so desperate to see some pictures lol:lol:

    13. Same! Mine will be paid off on the 22nd. Then he'll be on his way home. But, in the mean time, I haven't seen any Iru's being shown off! (I've been looking.) I'd love to see them.

    14. I canโ€™t wait to see full sets of Iru! I didnโ€™t get one but Iโ€™m so taken with his outfit. Itโ€™s beautiful.

@cads your girl is so pretty right now. Sheโ€™s going to be amazing when finished.

    15. Ah, Minifees... < 3 I kind of really want a tan mnf girl but I'm so torn on the face sculpt!
Haven't followed any doll releases in YEARS so I'm really behind. What are some cute/popular choices nowadays fellas? I know that Chloe is really popular, but have any other faces gained popularity, aside from Chloe? I'm super curious

    16. Just random post here. When I had tried to find this information before no one seemed to have an answer so..just going to post this for posterity's sake.

The boy moe body can wear both active heeled and moe heeled feet. I assume that the moe female then can also wear active heeled feet. The moe heeled feet on the boy body look rather small and so I bought a pair of aline heeled feet hoping they'd work better proportionally and they're nearly identical in length to the moe flat foot for boys. So I thought maybe this will benefit someone eventually?

I will say though, the aline heeled foot does limit the range of motion in the moe ankle. I don't entirely understand why as it fits so perfect but it's something I noticed.

    17. I'd been wondering that myself! I know the motionline feet don't fit the moe ankle piece but the activeline fitting is awesome! I plan on switching legs for my motion and moe bodies, but thinking about the boy getting the smaller feet... just fits the moe boy better...

    18. @Zavrinas Yay! Happy to help <3

@xaya She's beautiful. Are those EDEs I see in her?

    19. @akaisha0 Yes they are! 14mm I think... they are Milky 42, I've had them quite long time for her. :)

    20. Hello everyone :) I can finally join this thread after having my girl back from her faceup! I've had a couple of MNF before, but I think I've finally got one that will last with this girl. I always wanted a vampire/elf doll ever since I got into the hobby, so I'm so glad to have her! No name yet, she's proving difficult to pick for :XD:

    22. Been working all morning on dolly projects and just got a minute to take a nice pic of Hemlock! My newest girl and wanted to share! I need to do more than just a quick pic at some point though.

    23. Hi there! I just recently sold a Minifee Juri 14 head to a young lady in Germany. She was originally sold to me on a minifee moe body. The customer has an a-line body. I was not sure if you guys have heard of any issues with different bodies or not? She states the head does not fit the neck at all, that the hole for the head is too small. And I apologize if this is not the right place to ask this - I am on my phone and it is hard to maneuver through the site on mobile! I appreciate any and all help you guys are willing to give!

      Thank you,

      Whitney

    24. Yeah, that's actually a known problem. Either they need to modd the head, trade out the neck mechanism for a neck donut, or jet the fairyline body.

    25. Plenty of Minifees have issues fitting on other neck keys, itโ€™s not an isolated issue and def normal. Even some of the sleep heads have issues fitting on the bodies they were ordered with (Lunnula specifically had so many sleep heads from her fullset that couldnโ€™t fit on their own bodies). Fairyland warns some sculpts wonโ€™t fit on the Fairyline bodies due to being small, some recent event heads donโ€™t fit easily as well on Moe or A lines.

If the buyer doesnโ€™t want to sand the head, they could sand the edge of the neck key ever so slightly instead. Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™d try first in this case, given neck keys can be repurchased but Soony is a limited head.

    26. This is a common problem. I actually had to modify the neck of mine when I had it.

    27. Oh dang, ya'll are right, I had never noticed until I just now went to check myself, but Juri 14 def doesn't fit on the original a-line neck keys.
If it helps, though @whitfit , I tried my Juri 14 on my Ria's New Release A-line body and it fit totally fine?

Finally took a pic of Gabe in his new wig! I need to get some wig wax for it, but I quite like it! Bless Monique Wigs for selling decent short wigs, haha!

    28. His eyes are so scary! His makeup looks very natural.:)

    29. She is so gorgeous <3

    30. Hi everyone! I hope it's okay if I pop in here and share a picture of one of my girls that just got back from a faceup. This is Pythia my Nanuri 14 and I'm still in shock that she is mine!

    31. She is beautiful. <3

    32. I'm wanting to get my Mirwen redone...she looks so sad!!

    33. I'm thinking about getting a Minifee for my third doll. I've always loved them, they're so cute and i like how slim they're bodies are so they fit into a lot more of the MSD clothing than my 47cm boy does. Anything i should know before getting one? Celine is my favorite so if i can get one second hand that's what i'll do.

    34. Yes, one very important thing to know before you get your first MNF - they are ADDICTIVE. And demanding, but in the most adorable way so that you can't say no to them! LOL

      • x 3
    35. I am going to timidly poke my head in here, too. I am currently thinking (and awfully close) to purchasing my first MNF too (probably an A-line Celine). I only have 65cm+ dolls, so this will be a big change of pace for me. Oo;

I was checking around the links on the first page but most donโ€™t seem to have been posted in for a long while. Does anyone have recommendations on places I could look for clothing (aside from Etsy and eBay lol)?

    36. Etsy really is the best place, these days! The marketplace here is a lot drier than it used to be, especially secondhand, unless you're looking to commission custom work.
Good luck to both you guys, haha. Minifee are like pringles, 'one' just isn't an option XD

    37. Does it matter what type of body i get? Do all the minifee bodies have magnetic hands/feet? Im thinking of doing the faceup myself, i've been trying to decide if i want to do the makeup myself or have someone do it for me.

    38. All of the bodies for sale on the fairyland site have removable hands and feet. The older aline body has hook feet. Iโ€™ve seen comparison videos on youtube for the aline and moe line bodies. There are lots of little differences that might sway you one way or the other so I would check them out.

    39. there's definitely some aesthetic differences between the bodies (the moe is MUCH shorter than all the others, for example), and there's also the additional problem of a couple of the heads not fitting on every body. We were just talking recently about how the Juri 14 head won't work on the original a-line body, but does work on the moe and the renewal a-line, for example.

    40. Are the boy and girl Minifee bodies usually the same height?

    41. No, female bodies are always shorter than the male body of the same type. You can find exact measurements for every kind of body on their website ^__^

    42. I was just curious because i've always wanted an MSD doll thats androgynous. I love my 47cm boy but its so hard to find pants to fit him because his hips are big and his legs are long so i gave up the idea of him being my androgynous doll so i figured i'd try a Minifee or Mini Doll Dream, since their smaller

    43. -sucks in a breath and lets it out in a rush- Plunge taken- my girl, tentatively named Violet, has been ordered. @,@; Let the wait begin and the plotting commence!

    44. So, there's Fairyland dolls on the BJD Shop website, is that a recast site or a legit site? I havent heard to much about it

    45. BJD Shop is a recast seller. It's unfortunate that they're one of the top results.

    46. Has anyone gotten the Honoka fullset? If so, I would love to see owner photos. I recently applied to a few jobs and am planning on blowing all my cash on new dollies. :dance

    47. I do have her, but Iโ€™ve redressed her since. I love the fullset. Itโ€™s very cute and the wig is very nice.

Even though I love the outfit, knowing that I like her redressed so much, I donโ€™t know if I would do it again if I went back in time. Iโ€™d just get the doll. But it is very nicely made.

    48. According to Fairyland's website, their only licensed dealers at the moment are Denver Doll Emporium in the USA and DOLK in Japan. If you're seeing them anywhere else and it's not being sold second hand by a previous owner (even then check that it's legit by asking for a COA or at least to see the inside of the head for the makers mark) then it's a recast and you shouldn't buy it.

    49. My Beatrice (Rendia) is finally complete enough to post! :D

    50. She looks lovely! I can't wait to get my Honoka properly kitted out

      • x 1
    51. I did! It took me months, but it was worth it.

EDIT (since I don't want to double post): When I was taking her head off to add to her faceup, I accidentally pushed on the turnkey and most of her S-hook broke off. She's holding together for now, but I'm worried.

Is there somewhere I can get just the S-hook without buying a completely new neck mechanism?

    52. I feel like Im spamming with questions, so Im sorry if I am, but I know if you ordered the fullset Honoka you got the winking face, is that offer still going on? I am thinking of getting a Honoka instead of what I was planning on getting, and I really want that winking head...

    53. @ToshiIsAoba If you're looking to make an androgynous doll, I'd highly recommend the male moe body. I have a cross dressing boy and I got that body specifically for it. A lot of the female bodies are just that, very female in shape. The non moe boy bodies are aggressively masculine. The moe boy body by contrast is slender and under-developed. It has small enough measurements to fit into many clothes made for MNF dolls (male or female) so you have a lot of options. I also confirmed in an earlier post I made that the moe boy body can wear heeled feet if you go that route. The slender, underdeveloped qualities of the moe male body really lend itself to general neutrality.

    54. @CAKE TIME you did a fantastic job with her dress.
I have seen places where you can buy just S hooks usually on company sites like how you can get minifee neck parts on Fairyland's site.

    55. Thanks for the help hun~ I already have his character in mind and like i said my 47cm boy isn't really small enough for the character he was supposed to be so a Minifee is definitely worth it. Quick question, i know im probably asking a crap ton but what's A La Carte? on Dolkus.com they have the body listed as Minifee A La Carte

    56. A la carte: You get to pick the body and any head in the list to make your doll.

    57. Oh God don't go through Dolkus. You're in the US right? Denver Doll is the official Fairyland USA partner. Dolkus is a nightmare to deal with.
