Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 55

Sep 12, 2015

    1. I love her expression in this shot!

Does anybody have a pair of 14mm oscar doll eyes in their Chloe by any chance? I just want to make sure these new eyes I ordered are going to be a good fit.

    2. It's starting to get really cold and windy here. I'm trying to find more varieties of things to use instead of MSC for this reason. My poor RFA head has no face and I want to display her but she looks so sad.

I found you can use Liquitex Medium for the first coats, and then Liquitex Varnish for the last coat with an airbrush. Also I'm pretty sure it's non-toxic so it's a better alternative for MSC if you would ever want to go that route. :3nodding:

    3. Fawne, I'd be scared to try anything but MSC! Can you put the head in a big cardboard box, bring it outside and spray in the box? Might cut down on the wind problem.

And ...I got an invoice from DDE last night, and my Liria is on her way already!! (Hugs DDE). I can't wait. She was a total impulse buy, even though I've wanted her for months, and now I don't know if I have any right size eyes and wigs for her. i may try to make her an alpaca wig.

And happy birthday, Sher! I feel bad for snagging a Liria when you had to go the secondary market route, but at least we will both soon have our girls. :D

    4. I found the tutorial on Nicolle's Dreams youtube channel. I also need an airbrush anyway for better blushing on face-ups so I just thought why not try this method too? MSC somehow always gets in my nose & hurts my lungs afterward even with face protection on so I always am looking for better alternatives.

Congrats!! I can't wait to see her! :3nodding:

    5. Yea, I saw that tutorial, too, but the finish was different. I can't remember how, but I remember deciding that I'd prefer the MSC finish.

    6. She said it makes the face feel rougher because of the finish but I don't mind that. It was experimental so she even could of put too much on and that made it look strange? Oh well I'm gonna try it and post my results sometime.

    7. I use the the liquitex matte Varnish in an airbrush for all layers (base layers, color building layers, and setting layer) and absolutely love it. MSC has never worked well for me.

@xaya, thank you! A Christmas event is what I'm hoping for. Good luck with your Dolly saving!

It's gonna be either Luka or Celine.....

    8. @Angel kat Do you need specific weather/heat/humidity conditions to use that? I'm so fed up of MSC lol.

    9. Well, I've been using it inside with a mask (I have a cardboard box I spray into) and then sticking it in front of my forced air heater to dry. The humidity has been at 85-90% (Seattle, two weeks ago when I wanted to spray outside and checked the humidity....). I haven't had any problems with bubbling, or white spots, even on dark resin (Arubi pure skin).

    10. You obviously don't want to use it in weather extremes.
I've tried it and found the hardest part is keeping the appropriate distance because you practically can't see where you are spraying the stuff.

    11. i would love to try the liquitex but can't find anyone who carries it here. i gave up on msc ages ago though and use purity seal instead for all my face ups. it doesn't have the bad ghosting problem on tan skin and isn't nearly as finicky as msc though you still have to watch for extreme weather. the texture is a little rougher but not bad once you get used to it, and it has a very slight sheen that i like, not shiny, but just makes the skin look slightly luminous, instead of totally flat

    12. @auntbear I'd be happy to try to ship you a bottle if you want... Or try amazon? I don't think it has anything it it that would limit the way it is shipped.

    13. Testors Model Masters Flat handles humidity better than MSC, if you're looking for a good sealer. You still have to wear a proper respirator and all, but at least there's much less "ghosting up", and Testors is available in a lot of places.

    14. I use testors exclusively and it's always worked wonderfully.

    15. Humbrol vanish Matt no.49 works well too. SInce i cant find any MSC in France im really happy with it ^^
here is my modded Mio which i used Humbrol, i like the faceup a lot ;->

    17. Omg I love modded Mios! I adore when they look dreamy!

    18. chenedelic-Your Mio is adorable! Love the mod and faceup! :D

    19. I use Games Workshop/Citadel Purity Seal and it works great no matter the weather and humity! :3nodding: Denmark is a very humit country and it can sometimes rain constantly for weeks, but I have never even once had problems with Purity seal. No bubbles, no cracks nor chipping. I use it all year round, the weather being cold or warm, it doesn't matter. It really surprises me how few knows of Purity seal, especially since so many seem fed up with MSC. :nowords: And, Purity seal is a lot cheaper since you get like 3 times at much in a can, compared to MSC. It's also a lot easier to find, imo.

@chenedelic Your Mio is so, so adorable! :o I love the faceup you have made, very original and cute! Is it a sleeping Mio head that has had its eyes opened? It looks great like that! The OE Mio head has such big eyes, I didn't recognize yours as a Mio at first. :XD:

@kia20: my Mio is modded from open eyes head, i was disappointed with FL's official faceup and her big eyes right after she came home so i gave her mods ^^
      this is the first mod:

    22. @chenedelic wow your mio is so beautiful and very original. Everything fits perfectly.

    23. i agree, i like her so much better with the eye mod and your face up is lovely!

    24. I second for the Purity Seal, I'm using it for my dolls face-ups too and never had any problem with it however the weather is.

    25. @Loodles Sooo Jelly of your VE Chloe :aheartbea That is my last grail head sculpt!! Love the dark eye shadow around her eyes. She's lovely!!

    30. Ah! Gorgeous! (though honestly I'm completely in love with your entire doll family lol!)

I'm hoping my Celine comes tomorrow or Tuesday, but knowing USPS I'm lucky if she comes by the end of the week!

    31. Goosh, I agree with Kia, your Mio is suuuper lovely! I already liked Mio, but yours is the cutest I've seen yet, she's very expressive and sweet.

Also joining in the hunt for minifee Celines! I would love to see a BW Celine especially, extra big bonus points if she has white hair. I'll happily take NS Celines with white hair too, but I'm dolly planning and I'm so excited. I will trade with this picture of my girl, Ilia!

    33. Sorry to interject into the Celine spam, but I was able to pay off my Liria that I had on layaway at DDE! I hope she makes it here this week, but with the holiday, who knows. I'm excited, though!
I think her and my modded Nanuri '14, Ambellina, will be the best of friends. :3nodding:

    34. How about a blonde Celine?

    35. @Shiyaria Congrats on paying off your Liria :)

My Celine is "out for delivery" today, but knowing my lazy delivery person I'll have to go pick her up tomorrow. :|
I'll keep enjoying looking at your beautiful girls though! Gaaah! So many pretties! :kitty2

    38. Oh Happy Delivery Day! My tan Chloe is out for delivery too. Finally. Too bad her head will probably be shipped out tomorrow. Everyone's Celine's are beautiful, I miss mine but her face up wasn't for me and I couldn't bear to wipe it. Anyone else have to re-home a head because the face up didn't agree with them?

    39. I just caught my mail man just as he was leaving! :) A tan Chloe is next up on my to buy list :3

I'm so worried I might not like my tan F-line Sia (off topic in this thread, I know, I know :P) because I got her with the default faceup. Not sure how it'll look on tan skin >3< And if I don't like her faceup I don't think I'd want to wipe it x.x

    40. Ooo, deliveries! I hope she gets there super quick for you Loodles. My tan Chloe will probably be after Christmas now since she was an early November order but I'm still so anxious!

      • x 1
    41. Congrats on your imminent tan Chloe delivery!

I re-homed my Celine for pretty much the same reason you did. She was the full set with default face-up. I just couldn't stand the yellow in her eye makeup. Combined with the violet it looked like someone had punched her in the face, giving her two black eyes which were slowly turning colors. Back then I didn't like to wipe a professional face-up but I've done it several times since. I ended up liking the dolls much more, even if I can't replicate FairyLand's beautiful feathery lower lashes.

    42. I'm not a fan of Celine's default faceup at all and have been on the fence about her because of it!
I saw the most beautiful Celine in the MP though and I just had to get her. Just opened her box up and she's even more amazing in person. :kitty2 I'm so happy I could cry.

Edit: Edited to say that I think the FLAM head is adorable, someone uploaded a picture on Flickr and I'm in love. Aaaah. Gonna have to order a body for mine when it comes I think.

    43. @Loodles This has happened to me many times, where I cant bond with a faceup. I had one of my volks girls repainted 3 times , before I felt like she was what I wanted. :

    44. i used to have a problem with wiping faceups, part of my scottish heritage coming out, i couldn't stand to waste something i'd paid for ! ;), but then decided it was cheaper to wipe a faceup and redo it with one i liked, than to rehome a doll and get a new one. i've even bought a couple of le's planning to wipe the face just 'cause they weren't available bare and i really wanted the doll, but i'd far rather buy bare dolls and not have to worry about it.

    45. Oh goodness, I had to rehome the Chloe I once bought. I purchased her for her outfit, and I found her face so derpy and so sparkly that she didn't even stay a week after arriving.

    46. I've heard some stuff about this sealant too, I'll have to look into it. It's good to know that it isn't as finicky as MSC with weather!! :)

Also the Liquitex is so expensive at my crafts store, on Amazon it's about $7 cheaper but dang USPS won't ship those types of things to a PO Box. :...(

    47. Fairyland tends toward rather dark and glammy face ups. They are well done but you have to like the style.

I'm actually really anxious to see them bring back the temporarily suspended scuplts because the info stated they'd be getting new photos and potentially new face ups. I love the way my DES and Shushu where painted so I'd hate to see them redone.

    48. My Liria is off for her face up! I helped out a face up artist this weekend with rides to and from a con and she offered me a face up slot. Super excited! I'm really glad I didn't get her default face up. I saw one tan Liria with the face up and her eyebrows are invisible. I world have worried about wiping a professional face up too! So I'm glad I got her blank.

I'm impatiently waiting for the old sculpts, too! I want a DES, Ari, and Soo!

    49. I am also awaiting the return of old sculpts...one in particular which is a MNF Shiwoo...I have a vampire Shiwoo but...he doesn't have the same cute cheekiness as standard shiwoo (the chubby squirrel cheeks are what got me!) & I don't wanna sell V.Shiwoo in case...they don't bring them back O_O

    50. Has FL announced a Christmas event yet? :atremblin

    51. Nope, I check their blog every day and they haven't even mentioned anything yet. I'm really hoping for a nice event, that being event heads or an addition to their Fairyline, I don't care. Though, I am hoping for event heads with elf ears!:chibi I loooove their elf ears..

But don't they usually announce the event earlier than this, like start/mid November?? I hope they aren't working their hands off or anything..
