Fairyland ChicLine 40cm Discussion Part One

Apr 22, 2010

1. I never saw her...Post piccies when she's in?

Oh! and I found the most delicious book on wrapped and draped fashions. It's out of print and remaindered - I found it at my local 1/2 Price Books - but it can be had inexpensively off of Amazon.com. The patterns are all in 1/8 and 1/10 scale, and easily adjusted via copier to your doll's general size (for instance, 1/10 at 200% = Chic Line size, 1/8 at 160% = ditto.

The skirt is from the book, the top was a scrap that I modified in the same style as the book. Skirt was a 1/8 scale copied at 160% and fit perfectly first time, just like it showed in the book. No sewing was involved, just careful selection of a fabric (in this case Spandex) that wouldn't readily ravel, and orienting it to use the least stretchy side for the ties.

I highly recommend it to everyone.

2. Ooh, that's very nice dhawtx, your girl looks gorgeous!
The book sounds perfect for lazy-zero-sewing-talent-people like me,
maybe I can find the ebook version somewhere (I’m vegan!)… XP

3. Congrats! I've got a Chicline female body coming for my MNF Miyu head so I'll be back to being fully Chicline-enabled soon too! :D

4. Nice work Dhawktx! I love the way it looks on her. Sewing is so not my thing though >.< I'm turning into a chronic commissioner lol.

Grats on the incoming body ForeverVirginia! Your man Cage is an awesome hybrid so I can't wait to see how your girl turns out.

5. No sewing involved xhanthi, just cutting with scissors!

6. Cutting? Oh I can totally manage that! lol

7. I’ve been working for a pretty long (freaking) time on an outfit-project for my Rou,
and I am very close to finishing everything (even if it’s not perfect but) I’m almost there now.
The only think that is sort of holding me back are the beads. I tried having them sculpted
out of clear silicon clay, but sculpting tiny beads is apparently not as easy as I thought. ^ ^;;

If there is anyone here who knows anything about beads that would look good on a belt sized for a CL-male,
and would like to help me, I would be extremely grateful. I have created a thread here, where
I explain a bit about the bead-size and provided an image for what I am looking for. (:

8. hello everyone! waiting for Lishe... the girl will arrive in underwear . and so want something for her to sew. Maybe somewhere there is a link on the patterns of clothes for chicline?

9. Awesome find, dhawk. I think I may need that one. My skills at sewing are in dire need of aid and this looks just the ticket.

10. It's awesomely easy sistercuervo and I would grab the book while it's available cheap - later on I can see copies gettin' 'spensive! I have to get some pics - I used the same silhouette but eyeball adjusted it to the IOS Jack's dimensions (25.3cm tall) and it worked perfectly.

Literally, if you get the right fabric (a tight, fine spandex) and leave the ties thick enough, you don't even have to finish any of the edges, though the book does cover that for full scale garments. Now, repeated use will likely see the ties fail first, but I spent all of 3 minutes laying it out and cutting it so, drat, I gotta whop up another one? Snap!

One bonus? the part that is cut away from the bottom that accentuates the curve is perfect to use as the top. NO WASTE! LOL!

11. Dhawktx I couldn't resist this book and just grabbed one from Amazon. Can't wait to try this for some of my girls! My Lishe was ordered well over two months ago, before the cutoff, so hopefully she won't be too much longer...(taps finger impatiently...)

12. Still waiting on Fabilis to show up. There haven't been any updates since he left customs at 2 am on Sunday morning. :(

13. kadepie: I had that happen with every one of mine that came straight from Fairyland...no further updates till I came home from work and saw the Pink Slip of Joy in the clip at my front door...

14. On the last couple items I have gotten, it's been no updates for 30 something hours and then all of a sudden someone wants to scan the box properly. I am hoping for some sort of update today.

I should be thankful he shipped! I wasn't expecting to get that notice so early. Especially after they posted and said that certain parts of the fullset were going to make things delayed. And he's in tan which I figured would take longer.

15. Yay claywimmin! Just remember to enlarge them like I said above: 1/10 = copy it at 200% and 1/8 = 160% and either print them on 11x17 (if you have access) or be prepared to move the book around on the copier to get the full pattern and tape things together later. I got a plastic scrapbooking 'box' and a bunch of gallon zip locks to keep each of the patterns in their own space till they can be cut out and taped together. The one I got will also hold the book, so yay on that too!

I've found it is so easy to make these things - and they look so 'right' for what I've been wanting to do, that they are probably going to be the foundation of the 'casual' style of the Fae court!

I need to get the camera out in a few days when I get everyone Wrapped and Draped!

16. Lesidej: Unfortunately, not yet! The CLines are slightly smaller than the MNF line, so unless you can alter existing patterns you just have to wait for someone to make some available. Other than that, if you like the style in the book I mentioned "Wrap and Drape Fashion", I highly recommend it. It works flawlessly with spandex style fabrics.

17. You can always use patterns for fashion dolls like Gene, Ellowyne and Tyler. You can find those pretty easily on ebay. Ellowyne is probably the closest match to the Chicline body. Magalie (MHD Designs) makes some fabulous patterns and Designs by Jude's are easy to make, too.

18. Talk about quick! The tracking updated twice today and I made to the post office shortly after he arrived, so he is home! I was working on pics when my camera battery died so it's charging.

The face ups are gorgeous and the tan is nice. It's lighter than a chocopuki and the slightest bit orangish in tone but not drastically noticeable. The tops of his shoulders, the backs of his hands and wrists, his heels, one waist joint and the top of his head are much lighter from gate sanding I would venture a guess.

Hope to have pics for you soon!

19. Grats Kadepie! I'm going to stalk this thread until you post pics!

20. Thank you! :) The battery is still charging. I was working on trying to dress him and found the fullset wig is like every other FL chic line wig and doesn't fit his head. It pops or slides right back off. :( I guess I am going to look for a fur wig for him.

The bottom part of the costume is extremely long and drags the counter top or floor even with the sandals.

21. kadepie, it's the shape of their heads. If you use your fingers to stretch out the wig a bit, and put a circle of hot glue around his head behind where the edge of the wig will be, it will stay on. You just have to wrestle the wig over the bump of glue.

22. Sigh...I had sold my Chicline El ages ago...now I am thinking of getting Rou. I always seem to have a problem with anything larger than yosd, but I keep coming back to the chiclines and minifees. I saw Iplehouse's Claude not long ago, and I feel like I really need a "man" doll, if that makes sense. No way I would get him though as he is definitely too large. What the heck is up with me lately? LOL

23. redmaiko, that's the whole reason I went with the ChicLines...wants a real (resin) man I does...but nothing bigger than 1/4 scale. I'm happy with my crew so far...

24. Thank you! I will try that. Right now he's wearing the wig with a rubber band underneath and one to hold down the excessive flyaways.

I love Rou, he's gorgeous but I went through the same sort of stage too and it drove me nuts. I love Claude but I am supposed to be breaking from it all.

I have a feeling this guy isn't going to let me though....

He has no name yet and I gave up messing with the fullset outfit and just put him in regular clothes. I have bald/some nekkid shots if anyone has any requests.

25. Wow, he is gorgeous Kadepie! I didn't like him too much in FL promo images,
but your photos bring out a very soft-beautiful side that their images didn't.
I like the tanned resin too, which is weird because I don't really like tan resin.

- Enzyme

26. Oh my gosh his nose looks so thin... sort of like the infamous Shiwoo nose. I'm sure it's just the faceup and shadowing, though.

27. designedforsmiles: Nope that's that demmed Cerebrus Project Nose again. Those guys aren't happy unless you can cut your finger on the edge of their nose. I'm seriously considering modding down the nose on my Rou that doesn't have a faceup - I want a nose with a wider bridge on him.

28. kadepie - I'd love to see any photos you have! It will ease the waiting for my Fabilis!

designedforsmiles - It looks a lot like the Breakaway nose... it was thinner than more pointed than the Shiwoo's

29. Lol! Dhawktx, that is the infamous CP ultra thin-nose for sure! My non-bjd-friends always make witty remarks
about my CP VDES’s nose. Rou doesn't have such terribly-thin bridge though, that is one of the reasons
why I went with Rou, and because he doesn't look like the typical CP-sculpt. XB

Fabillis is a gorgeous sculpts though, I think he looks a lot like Ino, which kind of makes me think that
if I did want an Ino as a male I could always go with Fabilis (if they don’t discontinue the CL sculpts, that is).

- Enzyme

30. Yes, I would ALMOST think Rou had been sculpted by a new artist in the group. Fabilis is just a bit too girlie for me...my El is too but then, he's gay, so it works for him. One girlie man is enough in my crew! The rest are gonna be MANLY men and they're gonna LIKE IT! LOL!

31. Oooh he's gorgeous Kadepie! I love the light blue eyes aginst his darker colouring. Very nice!

32. Oh the tan is just so pretty! I hope they start providing it again for the future dolls... I'd love me a hunky man in tan <3

33. I thought so as well, that he was sculpted by a different artist. But then Rou does have the typical CP-profile,
so I am thinking he was just something new the sculptor (or team) was trying. I like manly-male-dolls as well,
which is why my collection is very small despite all the years in this hobby. ^ ^;

- Enzyme

34. Enzyme: I had been in the hobby less than six months when I found out about them too late to get in on the initial release (the first release 'rejects' were hitting the MP and I snapped up what I could afford) so I only had one standard MSD to get rid of. I had fallen for the EID menfolk, but that's just too much resin for my wrists and my house, so I regretfully 'made do'. VERY happy to see the C-Lines, just want some more manly faces...a cleft chin would be nice too. May actually do that at some time, just to make it look like I have more sculpts.

35. Dhawktx, I was very excited about the Chicline release, and very pleasantly surprised
that a company that I avoided for so many years (after my first resin-purchase),
had released bodies with proportioned I actually liked! I am a huge fan of the tiny
heads and the long torso the CL-sculpts have. I would love to see more realistic faceplates,
but I doubt I’ll own too many of them (I doubt the second-market prices will agree with
my wallet too much). I would love to own a girl though, but I know it probably wouldn’t work
because I suck at sewing and I’m obsessed with video game characters. ^ ^;

- Enzyme

36. Oooo! He is gorgeous Kadepie!! Yes, they need more face molds for this line, it is really limited at the moment and Rou seems to be the most masculine to me. That is probably why I never bonded with my El. Hopefully they are able to release more soon. It is difficult to be patient when they are so popular and busy with others. I must remember that Chiclines are still relatively new.

37. Enzyme: Last year I never thought I'd pay more than $200 for a doll, much less wind up with five ChicLines! The ones I got on the MP were all reasonably priced - just people offloading a doll they decided didn't go with their existing collections. I avoided the few that would have cost me more than ordering straight from FL. Was able to get some cool event gifts - the sword and shield from the EU release, a LOT of the Cat girl faceplates separately to modify and play with - so far she's everyone's fav of my whole crew. Wound up with a full set I don't really want/need, but it can sit in the box for a while.

Video Game girl costumes + the large bust ChicLine girl? Aleene's Tack it Over and Over! LOL!

Edit: OOps! miscounted, it's six CLines now! Oy!

38. Wow, six Chiclines! I envy you, dhawktx, I wish I could get a second male
and a girl, but I know I won’t play with them so it would just be wasteful of me.
The part that stinks most about not being able to sew and loving videogame characters,
is that I am obsessive.. I want accuracy even when it’s next to impossible at certain “scales.” XP

Oh, and for those people who wondered if the Dreamingtreestudio paperweight eyes would fit,
they do! I like the way they sit better than the full-globes, it’s like a perfect match for the socket.
I got the 6mm size (AD2 irises); however I only have a Rou. I am thinking all the CL have the same
size sockets, but I can’t say for sure not owning any of the other sculpts, but at least they fit wonderfully in Rou!

- Enzyme

39. Yes, Enzyme, they're all 6mm round. Can you get some closeup pictures?

40. I will try to do that dhawktx, not sure when I’ll have time but I’ll try to do it soon. (:

41. She's here! She's here! I just picked her up from the post this morning. Meet Gabriella (Chicline Ino - faceup by Lyn Raftis)

42. I love that faceup. She's so gorgeous! And so different from the default Ino!

43. She's a beauty! Lyn does such nice work!

44. Oh what a beauty Tiasdolls! Congratulations!

Thank you all for the comments! :) Fabilis does look a bit girly and nothing like the promo pics at least so far in any of the ones I have taken. I never even noticed his really skinny nose until you mentioned it. I should take some other shots from other angles to get a side view of it.

Here he is right out of the box and his sleeping face plate. I need to get the Anubis head painted and the Pharaoh head piece done too.

45. Oh, wow, Kadepie...he's GORGEOUS!

46. Thanks Lyz! :)

I found one shot from last night that has a different angle on his nose...

47. Wow...he's smokin' Congrats on adding him to your collection.

48. He's so cute, Kadepie! Great beauty you have there.

49. He's lovely kadepie!

50. I hope they make the tan available soon...that resin is just yummy!

51. He is just handsome! I love that Tan color, so gorgeous on him!

52. @Kadepie - is that dreaming tree eyes you have in your fabilis?

Also, I can't see the paper weight eyes in the Dreaming Trees Studio order page anymore *_* Did she remove them?

53. Yeah I just found that too T_T;; I think the normal flatbacked eyes are still orderable, so I just opted for those for now. pity the paperweights are suspended until further notice. Just like our chiclines. Omg why do they torture us so??? ;_;

54. I have been wondering for a while, as I can't make out from pictures that I can find. Mostly wondering for the Male C-line body can the chest latch on in the front when they tilt backwards? Similar to the MNF, and also what does the unside of the hip look like, also is it similar to the MNF? Hard to find pictures of a unstrung naked C-line ^^.

55. Thank you everybody for the comments on this guy! :)

No, those are just the acrylic blue that Fairyland sent him with.

I keep staring at those photos, and is it just me or does Fabilis not look a little bit like Ino?

56. Hah! You made me have to go look!

He DOES have one, but it doesn't catch (on the normal body)! He has one in back that lets him do the brooding hunch thing though. The Muscular body catches a BIT at the front when you lean the pectoral back, but not much.

57. Thanks for letting me know, I think a tad bit of modding you could have it catch or some seuding that some people have done. Thanks.

58. His chest is already hot-glue sueded. When he's popped back enough to reach that lock, there's not enough contact to let the sueding work. Just looking at it, I'd have to remove quite a bit of the abdominal rim above the lock so the pecs could hang on it - those pectorals just get in the way! It's a bit of a moot point to me since he can arch his back almost to the lock and stay there pretty easily - When it's pushed as far as the lock he looks like a Cirque du Soleil performer!

I never answered your question about his hip joints either. He's got those inserts that mask the hip slot and have a magnetic return. The only problem I have is that his mobility joints let his hip slots tend to swing so easily that it's a struggle to get them lined up for him to sit if he's wearing pants.
