I didn't think I really edited my photos very much, but when I compared the originals to the ones I posted, I was surprised to find I did. I could do more though, and I've gotten some great ideas from you guys. Anyways, here's one I've done recently. Looking at it now, what I did didn't help very much...
I generally don't edit all that much, other than adjusting shadow and light, colours saturation and contrast. Mostly it's to make my dolls come to life more and the resin colour more natural looking (sometimes it tends to look very orange or grey in photos, depending on lighting). Before and after editing:
the after & before XD He is one of my oldest and dearest dolls and I was very happy to see a small heart in his eyes, hence the enlargement in black and white.
This thread is great!!! I usually don't edit much my photos because I'm lazy, but here's one that needed a bit of edition:
Here's an example taken at a recent meet up (She's not my doll) Before Meet-1 by tomb202, on Flickr[/IMG] After Punk by tomb202, on Flickr[/IMG]
Always want a good base image to work with! Here's an example of a possible doll workflow (this doll doesn't belong to me but I wish she did xD) SOOC (Straight out of Camera [RAW]) -> Lightroom -> Google Nik Color Efex Pro 4
those of you who are experienced and know how to get good photos, what filters do you typically use in editing?
I rarely use *any* filters whilst editing. Only filters if I'm looking for a specific effect after other editing completed.
Regarding filters, I'm pretty much the same. Unless I look for a specific feel I tend to just do a skin smoothing plugin and adjust contrast / clarity / etc to make the photo pop more. When I do use filters, I just do it through Color Efex Pro from the Google Nik Collection.
Interesting thread! I'm still very much a beginner at photography. Angelic Unedited by ladymadrigal80, on Flickr This one came out well, but I wanted a moody, black and white photo to go with the lyrics of a song. (That's my PKF Cony.) Angelic (3) by ladymadrigal80, on Flickr One black and white filter and one vignette later.... Original (PKF Luna) Aura by ladymadrigal80, on Flickr Edited (Different crop, High Key filter added - probably wasn't a good idea.) ADAD - Dark by ladymadrigal80, on Flickr
Wow it was hard for me to imagine how the pic's would look before editing and it's amazing what you all did! I will try to edit some pictures of my doll as well
I just got a new doll in and remembered this thread while I was editing my new-dolly photos! This is my before: And my after! I really enjoy editing photographs, and I love the difference it makes
I see quite some comments on using fancy camera's. You don't need an expensive camera to make pretty pictures! Just learn how to use your camera properly and you will make the prettiest pictures
This is true. If you have a point and shoot camera, you can still get very close results. Just make sure you have the right settings!
I find editing can almost be as enjoyable as the shoot itself. It's amazing how a few subtle changes can alter a photo so much for the better.
I don't usually edit much: little bit of colors and lighting. But the corner where I have Hilja's "room" is really yellow. The walls are yellow and the light is yellow since there are no windows. So I decided to practise making photos less yellow. Before (small edits): After:
I have so much fun editing, and love bringing my dolls to life through pictures. I still use Lightroom, it's perfect for what I need.
I didn't have enough light yesterday and most of the photos I took came out dark. I don't usually photoshop as much but this one I really liked and wanted to salvage. Before: After: Tease by R u b i n ✿, on Flickr
HAhah i think i have the most dramatic before and after XD from this, yellow lighting obvious breaks in the background ect to this
For a theme photo I was making, I wanted to add more mood to the photo. It went from this to this And I tried really hard to get a good detail shot to add to the story. Finally, I took these two and played with the sharpness, color & cropping & focus for these results Computer isn't a thing I have much experience with so for me I do most of my editing as I go, with checking the lighting & using different settings on my point & shoot camera then play around with the edit settings on photobucket layering several options on the same photo before saving it. So far, so good, for what I wanted.
Photo editing looks so much fun! When I edit usually use Picmonkey to do small improvements to photos such as adding brightness or shadows, sharpening, cropping and so on.
FInally have a newer one I can show Straight from the camera, the scarf in the finished picture is puzzled together from the scarf in this picture and a second one. And the finished picture, the chessworld photos are usually the most edited because I want their world to look very desaturated and nearly monochrome with a deep black. First put the picture through Lightroom for clarity, contrast and the like and then did the rest in Photoshop CS3.
Ahh, I made a before-after, too ^-^ It's just a light retouche, without bling and stuff. Just made the photo a little "better" ^-^
U guys are amazing, all this pictures are so inspiring I can't wait to go and take pictures of my boys , Thanks
Just light color adjustments to one of my box opening shots. I need a bit of creative practice when it comes to photography yet. :^>
I use Pixlr for my photo editing, mostly. (It's easy to have everything on my Cloud drive just in case.) Here's a before and after of my Bei Lie doll. Before After: And here's my newer Doll, Frank from Doll Legend :3 This one has some more heavy editing than usual, but I'm trying to make my pics look smoother when I add in a different background. Before and After:
Other than the eyes, I think I prefer the original photo. It is already very well done. Beautiful guy too!
I love editing photos! \o/ But I'm still learning and picking up new stuff along the way. :3 Here's a semi-recent photo I did earlier this month.
Wow I've never used filters for photos and these posts have show me the way XD all of these are incredible!!
