Dream Valley Mini Discussion Thread

Feb 6, 2018

    1. I'm having to fight myself over ordering one of those Wolftaurs in Dragon's Blood Red! I just know they'd be gorgeous! It's such a deep and unique color for them! <3

      • x 1
    2. I couldn't fight myself- I've already ordered one. ^^;

    3. A question for my fellow DV Mini (well, large mini) B4-04 owners - how in the world are you dressing them? I have my boys stuck in long skirts and wizard robes but want to buy them actual clothes... has anyone found a good place to get them properly sized clothing? Especially pants!

      • x 1
    4. I managed to get Achelous's head with faceup expedited since I'll be out of the country soon and for the summer (not sure what to do about the other orders but I'll figure it out) and it's ....really sparkly. The faceup is glittery as hell. Are... Dream Valley faceups usually this sparkly? Most of my dolls have company faceups and only one has sparkles in her's, but it's nowhere as much as Achelous's.Otherwise, he's pretty cute. Waiting on his body. Here's some pics of his company faceup for human Achelous.

    5. I also received my human Achelous full doll (B4-04 body) today, here's the box opening thread. So, so pleased!! The anpiel is a genderless little angel in my doll world. (One day I'll sand off the private parts, but it'll have a male body for now.)

@dayspring10 I got the factory faceup too, but I don't think it's that sparkly. I barely noticed it at all and it doesn't show up in my photos. It's very lovely!

    6. Oooohhh how's everyone feeling about the new tentacle girl? She looks so interesting and complex!

      • x 2
    7. I'm not interested in having a doll with tentacles though I do like the new girl Amal's face. I am highly tempted by the red resin though.

      • x 1
    8. Awww! She looks like a little baby Ursula! Only 4 tentacles, sadly.
Anyone else getting Coral Reef vibes? Just me?

    9. If the tentacle boy had 8 instead of 4 I might've been in trouble as I do have a character who has the lower body of an octopus. My wallet was grateful that wasn't the case. Still a very cool doll though. I'm also safe on the red resin, as gorgeous as it is, because I've recently received a doll that's been dyed a very deep red.

      • x 1
    10. Does anyone know if the Freyja would work on a male body? The neck measurement for her human version is 6.8 cm and the male body is listed as 6.7cm.

      • x 1
    11. I've been eyeing DV dolls for a while now, and I finally decided it's time to order one when I saw Amal - I had a look on DV website where they show the body poseability and it looks just so surreal and fluid that I had to order her straight away :D I picked grey as the base colour - I wish DV allowed more colour combinations, for example, I think grey-red would be cool, but there is always the option to just dye the tentacles in colour I want, which I will probably do.

      • x 3
    12. I don't own a Freyja head, but .1 cm is a very small difference in terms of head/neck sizes. Especially since the head hole is the bigger one, I'd say this would definitely fit.

      • x 2
    13. Not trying to self-promote - I remember someone asking somewhere that they wanted to see pics of the new B4-19 female 45 cm body. I finally got around to posting some here.

      • x 3
    14. Newest DV mini is now on their site! Uncia, the snow leopard boy. I really like seeing an anthro head option and that they offer just the pawed legs on their own, though I don't know if I'll go for either just yet. The tail being available during 'the first sale' makes me hope that they'll offer the paw legs long-term.

      • x 3
    15. The new boy looks great! I wonโ€™t be buying him myself, but Iโ€™m interested to see if they make more anthro heads in the future. Their dragon/human hybrid dolls have always been gorgeous and it would be awesome to see dolls like that with full dragon heads. Or maybe a werewolf doll with a wolf head some day? Lots of possibilities if they make more anthro dolls in the future.

      • x 3
    16. They seem to be heading toward more anthro indeed. They also had the bunny girls earlier that year, and one head was clearly less human.

I'm probably going to buy that boy, unless something unexpected prevents me from doing it. Snow leopard+tibetan clothes is a personal attack on me it feels.

      • x 10
    17. I'm so excited to see what else Dream Valley has planned for these interchangeable lower parts. I've already got the female three-part body coming (with the bunny girl), but now I'm tempted to grab a male three-part body eventually.

But I've already got their SD cat boy, Scar, so I think I'm safe from this new cat boy, even if his Tibetan outfit is preeetty.

(Hey Dream Valley, you interested in making an anthro kitsune with all the tails?)

      • x 3
    18. A werewolf with a properly wolfy head and digi legs is my dream. But yeah, bring on the anthro heads. All the anthro heads.

      • x 4
    19. I always knew from starting the hobby that I wanted a snow leopard themed doll as snow leopards are one of my favorite animals. I loved the promo photos but was worried it would be the 73cm scar body so I'm excited the new release is in 1/4 scale! I actually really like the whole fullset so will most likely order it :dance

It's also great to see DV are starting to offer more parts, it's fun to be able to change out fantasy parts and maybe create new combinations ;)

      • x 3
    20. What are the thoughts on the two-part versus three-part body design? Looking at the sample photo and pricing, it looks like it'd allow some waist rocking, but the main difference is one less part to deal with while restringing. Is the waist joint that useful?

      • x 2
    21. I'm loving the new snow leopard boy! I'm not normally one for anthro sculpts but his beast head looks amazing, his clothes really suit him and he's just gorgeous overall. I won't be able to order him since the timing is bad and I have other things to pay for But I look forward to seeing owner photos!!

      • x 3
    22. The three part body allows you to swap out the lower body with other compatible lower bodies. I assume they'll release more dolls that you can change the lower body on. For the males Achelous's mermaid lower body can be swapped with Uncia's snow leopard lower body and vice-versa. Here it mentions the replaceable parts.

    23. Put my order in for a snowy-fullset, now comes the painfully long wait! With the naga doll and now the snowleopard guy, Dream Valley are making sure I don't have any money this year :sweat

      • x 6
    24. If they do this for girls... Wait a minute. Why haven't they done this for the girls?!? I've got a Rita manitaur and an Abyss mermaid that this would be perfect for! Waaaaah! :...(

      • x 1
    25. Aha, makes more sense now! Still debating this guy. I love the legs and clawed hands, I just wonder if they're gonna do a canid with him sooner rather than later.

      • x 3
    26. Snow leopard marks the third time this year dream valley came after my wallet, time to hide for the rest of the year to recover :XD:

Iโ€™m now waiting on the bunny Olivia, the Phoenix, and now the snow leopard Uncia

      • x 3
    27. DV continues to knock it out of the park with fantasy dolls, wow! already placed my order for uncia

      • x 3
    28. I can confirm that the 3 part torso Safina (rabbit girl) has the resin loop and hook set up that Uncia does. So it seems like DV had already planned and implemented being able to switch lower bodies on their fantasy leg dolls for both the female and male dolls.

It's not a complete surprise as I know people have asked about being able to swap upper/lower bodies on previous fantasy doll and it does seem like DV listens to what people ask for! I noticed on the release of the 1/6 naga doll, a bunch of people asked if they would do a 1/4 version so I'm thinking I need to start putting some money aside in case DV listens again

    29. I think it's very likely they'll do some sort of canine version so it's just a matter of waiting! :XD: Though given how long-leggy DV likes to make their dolls, I can imagine a Maned Wolf would be pretty cool. I actually thought the wolf-taurs looked like Maned Wolves but nor sure if anyone's done their doll up as one?

      • x 2
    30. Does Randall count? I was half going for Maned wolf when I was painting him. I need to give him a bit of a touch up at some point.

    31. While I keep mulling over Uncia, it occurred to me: Dream Valley seems to have a pattern of previewing the next doll prior to the current one's period ending. So far for 2023, we've had:

      -merman
      -girl/dragon/dragontaur
      -bunny girls
      -no gender phoenix
      -centaur boy (with bonus wolftaurs)
-Tentacle girl (with bonus tentacle boy)
      -snake girls
-and now currently, snow leopard boy.

What critter will the next preview be? BASELESS THEORIZING, GO!

      • x 2
    32. Speculation is fun!

This year's lineup put in a different way...
      - fish tail
      - 4-leg dragon
      - 2-leg paw with animal head
      - 2-leg avian with wings
      - 4-leg hooves
      - many leg tentacles
      - snake tail
      - 2-leg paw with animal head

Maybe we're due something spooky for Halloween? Minotaur-type creature with beast head, claws and human body? A doll with a mask or modular head-type ornaments would be interesting.
How about insectoid, 6 or 8 legs? Even something plant-like?

This year's lineup is all 1/4 and 1/6... DV doesn't make many large dolls, but it'd be cool if they squeeze in a 1/3 before the end of the year. They haven't been too adventurous with fantasy 1/3s (for good reason, not easy to engineer at that size), but I can imagine a minotaur-type for a large doll.

Dream Valley's monthly releases reminds me of Soom's Gem MDs back in the day. They must be taking a leaf out of Soom's book, because this marketing is so successful.

      .
Can't speculate without paying the doll tax. Here's the anpiel (DV Achelous human), looking very mischievous with Halcyon (Dollstown Rhea).

    33. Oh, a dragon centaur would absolutely kill my wallet, but for Dream Valley I would do it. 1/4 snakes would also be lovely. I would also love a male version of the scorpion girls or skeleton mermaid girls that they previously released. Or maybe a bone dragon? Like the Greyson/Collier type, but with skeletal wings and tails for the spooky season.

Speaking of things, here's my new boy with his tail and wings! The tail is going to go in storage for now because my apartment is small and I don't want to risk damaging it until I have the proper space to display it, but it is so pretty! My little mer dragon.

    34. A male drider (spider-taur) would be temptation for me. A tentacle boy (with 8 tentacles) would also be tempting.

      • x 3
    35. If they ever do a lion-taur I'll be in serious trouble. Though honestly I'm almost in trouble every time they post a new doll, so.

      • x 4
    36. I don't collect girls and my collection is quite large at this point (79 dolls). But I was wickedly tempted by their Bast girl (she's a tiny). I resisted but whenever I see her in the MP, I'm tempted all over again. DV has my number and it may be on speed dial, lol.

      • x 4
    37. they put my number right next to yours apparently
i'm tryna hold out and not cave but that snow leopard is so cute.

      • x 3
    38. I was/am seriously tempted by the current Uncia Beast Face full set. I just don't think he'd quite fit with my current crew. I ordered a Freyja head and the muscular male body in the limited red available during the last event period.

      • x 3
    39. I'm also considering Uncia Beast face version, but I'm not a big fan of DV's white. At least a few years ago the doll I got wasn't really white but had a bit of yellow to it that of course has just increased in the four years I've owned the doll.

How do people think he would look in gray? I've done some two minute color mods on their photos to show a very approximate version of a gray doll with the fullset. Obviously these are DV's official photos, just with a bad white to gray mod.

Any opinions? I'd also consider just skipping the body blushing. While nice looking it really cuts down on the ability to play with the doll in my experience as it just chips so easily. Or maybe I'd get it and see how it goes as there's not much price difference ordering the fullset, vs ordering everything from the fullset but the blushing and easy to wipe if it becomes a problem.

    40. Just so you know, @scripple Dream Valley's gray has a bluish tone to it. My Howard is gray and I like the color. I think Uncia would look pretty neat in that color. I have a Rosa in white and she is definitely not paper white, which is fine for her, but might be less ideal for a snow leopard.

      • x 3
    41. Thanks for pointing out the blue undertone @Leo Pheonix. I'd missed that but can see it in a photo of a gray Coco fullset. It looks as much pale blue as gray. Hmmm.

Yeah I'm not really sure about a yellow-snow leopard. :XD:

      • x 2
    42. Glad to see Iโ€™m not the only one considering grey if I get Uncia. Actual snow leopards are more grey than white and I figure grey blushing will chip like crazy, so going with colored resin seemed like something to consider.

      • x 3
    43. I didn't know dv's white resin was particularly prone to yellowing, that's interesting! I do have one doll of theirs that had yellowed significantly, but I had assumed it was all bad care on my end (it probably also is).
Now I'm wondering if I should see if I can change my order to a grey skin, or if I can live with a snow leopard that'll someday be yellow...

      • x 2
    44. I have a DV 3-arm body in WS that I bought new in 2019 and it hasn't noticeably yellowed. It is also a bang on match for the old white of SD (the head is a SD one). Granted, my guys all live in their boxes as I lack display space but I haven't seen any yellowing for Kheima.

I can't comment on the grey they do as my other DV boy, Kyrieleison (Dean giraffe-taur), is in purple. However, depending on lighting, he will be either a grey toned purple or a purple toned grey and yes, it does look different in different light. That's actually perfect for his character as his soul is a tiny fragment of Saimeer's (the Elder God of Chaos) that was left over after the creation of the universes.

      • x 2
    45. Took a photo of my grey Howard on the 3-arm body (Deimos), white Rosa (Morrigan), and white Rubin. I got my Rosa in-stock from DDE in 2020, the other two arrived September 2022. It's hard to see in the photo, but Rubin is whiter than Rosa. And I don't think she's changed noticeably since she arrived. Maybe DV's white resin has gotten whiter?

    46. Sorry, I shouldn't have said that. It was an impression at that moment from picking up a doll I haven't handled in a couple years, but I don't actually have any other newer DV dolls to compare against and memory isn't such a great reference for absolute color shift. So I should have just stuck with their white, at least a few years ago, wasn't pure or "paper" white to begin with and all whites will yellow over time.

I've removed the comment from my original post.

      • x 4
    47. It was no problem! Like I said, I do have one DV doll that has yellowed a lot (from 2020 if I remember well) so what you said fit with my own experience. I do also have a newer white doll from 2022 (I think?) that has not really yellowed at all, but I've also gotten more careful with my dolls.

Ultimately, it's pretty hard to predict how resin will age :sweat

      • x 2
    48. It's very hard to predict how the resin will age as there's a lot of variables, some of which are completely out of our control as owners. There might have been an issue with a batch (which happened with my RS old blue Jun which mellowed to a completely even light turquoise, which is beautiful and works better for his character), the company may not use a UV blocker in their resin mix, a former owner may have had the doll constantly on display, it might've been exposed to constant/higher than normal heat.....

      • x 3
    49. I know when DV started they used that creamy colour resin that a lot of the budget chinese companies use. At some point they seemed to change to a white resin that was more white and my dolls with that resin haven't yellowed very much. Though I also take care not to expose my dolls to too much sunlight so don't know if that's a factor! :sweat

I was also thinking about white vs grey for the snow leopard. I think what puts me off the grey is that it looks quite dark, I think I would have preferred a lighter silver grey. And as I was getting the company blushing, it think it might be too pale for the grey base. The thing that put me off most about the white resin is that they airbrush the doll when they're assembled which create a 'stenciled' outline on the piece below. I'm less worried about yellowing as my more recent DV stuff hasn't yellowed too badly and that the 'white' fur on snow leopards often has a yellow tone.

I think i'm a little wary of grey resin as I have a couple and the grey is very greenish. With yellowing i'm sure they'll get more green over time which isn't quite what I wanted foe those characters! It really is one of those, I wish the company had done an example in different resin colour/s so you can see what it looks like jobbie!

      • x 2
    50. I'm still on the fence about ordering the snow leopard. Now that I've seen the blue/green in the gray I know that's not something I'd like for this sculpt. So it's white or nothing.

      • x 2
    51. I had been thinking about getting the little Uncia fellow as a mini-me for my grey 70cm DV Scar (made in 2022), since I had planned to make him a snow leopard since late last year. my Scar doesn't seem as dark of a grey as Leo Pheonix's Howard, so I'm not sure how much variation the grey has by run. I don't have any 1/4 sized grey DV to compare though, just the big boy and a tiny Mike, who also seems more silver but he is definitely older. neither are as green toned as the Doll Chateau grey I have, but that is much older.

I definitely have received two kinds of white from DV as well. older items are the creamy version, and the newer items like Aria's claw and the owl wings seem more paper white to me. I didn't mind the creamy too much since it looks like bone which works great for my crew, but the difference is noticeable.

      • x 2
    52. I decided to go ahead and order a white one. Thanks everyone for all the info on the gray undertones and the new shade of white they're using.

      • x 4
    53. Looks like my guess was somewhat correct... DV's next release is a 1/3 girl with rabbit legs, taller sister of Olivia and Safina. Time to head over to DV's Large doll thread!

      • x 3
    54. I saw the preview on their instagram and was very surprised, given they already did bunnies earlier in the year. She looks impressive!

      • x 1
    55. For anyone who missed them at their initial release, the bunny girls are back for sale until late november

      • x 3
    56. So with the rerelease of the bunny girls, I find myself eyeballing them again, after holding back earlier in the year. Has anyone who ordered one received their Olivia or Safina yet? Thoughts?

    57. I think the ones you're talking about are in stock and Denver Doll. No discount, but no wait either.

    58. Yep, I saw them! About $50 difference, and between that and being able to pay in chunks (because I'm already working on a number of doll projects already), preordering and then just waiting is tempting.

    59. Understandable. I was just trying to provide some possibly helpful info.

    60. I've received my Safina in grey skin and I have only positive things to say about this lovely girl! :D Well, maybe the ear magnets could be stronger, the ears keep falling when she's wearing a wig.
I haven't had the time to start with bodyblushing or face-up yet but I'm sure I'll have fun blushing those bunny legs!
