Thanks @Jane although I must say it is splendid to be able to chew efficiently Well done for not being swayed by the sale. That's a good rule of thumb, to only buy when you're aching with longing. Jodi won't be getting a friend of her own age anytime soon, but at least she does have Vinnie for company, so that's a consolation... or is it?
She is oriental resin. Fresh probably would have been better with her colouring, but I already had the oriental body, so I had to go with that. I don't think I have shared a photo of her here, so I will as others may be interested in seeing the Dollstown faceup. A quiet Sunday afternoon. by Kristin, on Flickr
@Jaybirdfinnigan She is gorgeous, I love her colouring and her faceup is beautiful. I love that little bear too.
Gosh; I didn't get any notifications and I have missed 2 pages of posts! Congratulations @Jane for being able to curb your spending for when you really "need" a doll. @Jaybirdfinnigan your doll is lovely. The coloring suits her and this is the first DollsTown faceup I have seen. I love your display. You said you spend way too much time making things for her. Did you make the bear, clothing, and her Classics readers? I love her viewfinder. I remember having those as a child! @mikki I love the pic of your girls. Is it Jodi on the left, not impressed with her Vinnie? She's not feeling it!
Hahahahaaaa! Do you hear that munching sound????? That is me eating my hat! My tracking at the moment says: "Your parcel has arrived at its delivery location......Grande Bretagne" I am just so excited EDIT!!!! Status has changed to "Out for delivery" !!!! And I missed the last 2 sets of photos of Jodi, Vinnie and Una!!! Sorry @mikki and @Jaybirdfinnigan ((hugs))
Congratulations @Jane . No need to eat your hat; you merely decided you needed that doll! Which doll did you get? It must have been in stock for you to get it so quickly! Can't wait to see your new gal!
Indian Lake (Ohio) - Wikipedia Here is a link to the wiki about Indian Lake. And, the spillway was built in 1850 by Irish Laborers. Many thanks to your ancestors. And possibly a few of mine. There is a picture of an aerial view of the lake. I lived for a time on Seminole and Crane Town Islands.
Thank you! Yes, I made all of the stuff in the photo, with the exception of the bed frame - it is an American Girl bed, and her Monique wig. I still have my Dad's Viewmaster and it is still fun to pull out and look through every now and then. His is the one I used as a reference when I made Una's.
Thank you @coleen Jodi is the little one on the right, she's a Seola 7. Vinnie is Soph on the Elf body. Oooh, that's so exciting @Jane
Thank you so much everyone!!! She arrived this morning....................but I can't show you her yet as I am waiting to get eyes for her. The eyes she came with (though beautiful) are too big for her. And she is a DT5 Deogi with a custom face-up. I so missed having a Dollstown doll on that little body so when I saw her FS on the second-hand market I jumped and bought her. I am one very happy Jane tonight!
Boom! That is the sound of my head imploding! You made the Viewmaster? You even made the little sleeve the reel goes in. Awesome! I checked out your patterns on Etsy. I may get a few later. I started knitting for my DT and Narae. Made 2 sweaters and 2 dresses. I've probably ripped out 3x what I produced! They aren't finished as I lost interest in blocking them. I have a sweater on the needles right now. I stopped when it came to knitting the raglan sleeves. I got turned onto freeform crochet so I have been making different scrumbles. Focus, Coleen, focus!
Oh many congrats @Jane , how wonderful to have a new little one. I can't wait to see her when she has her eyes. I've been thinking about a 5yr old myself so will be most eager to see her. xx
I know that is how I felt when I first saw all that Kristin had made for Una...........it really is awesome! Una is one very lucky little Dollstown girl. And good luck with your doll sweater knitting....what pattern are you using? I have Dollswest pattern #213 on my needles at the moment, I do 3 rows each day so progress is slow.........but steady. I had forgotten how fiddly is can be knitting with the smaller needles and fine yarn. Awww....thank you! A friend is sending me some smaller eyes for me to try in her first. That way I can be sure that I order the right size when it comes to actually parting with my money And I think you would love a DT5 doll......would you have her as character in your stories? Or just as a free standing doll (so to speak)?
My sweater on the needles is Dollswest pattern #116. The other sweater(s) I made were Soudane's pattern; 2 sweaters of the same pattern. The 2 dresses were also Soudane.
@coleen.......that #116 sweater looks complicated and tiny! I hope you find the impetus to finish it. I know progress is slow on my sweater but at least it grows by 3 rows each day so it should be ready for next winter (with luck)
Making clothes and accessories for my dolls is the fun of collecting for me. Good luck with your knitting! I can relate to the focus issue - 40 thousand projects on the go at all times! Thanks Jane! Seeing your gang on Flickr really inspired me to get a Dollstown (my first larger doll). There is just something very human about them.
Well poo! Somehow I stopped receiving notifications about this thread so am a couple of months behind on posts. I'm glad to see there's been activity and it's not been as dead as I'd been assuming it was Teddy
I know @Teddy. Even though I have notifications turned on it hasn't worked for quite awhile on the DT thread for some reason. Have you been working on anything for your dolls?
@coleen the #160 pattern is lovely and so useful. I like little crop cardi's very much. @Jaybirdfinnigan I can't help but see on your Flickr page your Seola girl.......how do you feel about her now? And how did you feel about letting her use Una's body????
I wasn't particularly happy with her faceup when I did it a couple of weeks ago, but it is starting to grow on me. I'm going to live with it for now and see if her character comes to me. Still sharing the body for now. The Seola is not giving me a 1940s feel at the moment, so sharing isn't a problem.
@Jaybirdfinnigan lucky you that the girls inhabit different words. So far I haven't been able to play the body sharing game with my DT7 girls......even when they inhabit different eras!
Mailto is not only enjoying his life here but he's getting rather demanding. Kaito by Marie, on Flickr Me: You think you have enough stuffed animals there, Kaito Kaito: Yes, in fact I would love a sister to share them with. She can have the girlie ones. Me: You know that's kind of sexiest. But your nine, you'll learn.
@animemom that's when you know they are at home! He has a cozy little nook with his wicker settee and stuffies. And, he is willing to share! That doesn't happen often!
@animemom........hahahahahaaa! Good luck with the savings plan then. I hope you can bring a sister home really soon.
My Arin says he should think carefully before making that wish. Sisters can be a pain. Arin: "I must not tell my sister that real Princesses can pee through twelve mattresses. I must not tell my sister that...." "So unfair to make me write lines - it's not my fault that Nettle is so gullible!" Teddy
Hahahahahaaa! That is just so funny Teddy! And I have heard this before and I still find it so funny {{still giggling}} .....keep writing those lines Arin. And keep going for as long as it takes 12 mattress to dry! LOL! So funny!
@Teddy Poor Arin! Like @Jane I am still laughing! Unfortunately for Arin, boys seldom win the argument against girls.
Unfortunately for Arin, he's all too keen to take advantage of his (older) sister's gullability and trusting nature... Teddy
Poor fellow. I have had an Arin as a boy with a twin sister, a Selola. I loved having twins. These won't be twins, just siblings. If I can manage to ever find a five year body I can for sure make her seven years old instead of eight with growth spurt.
Alice, Jane, and I took DollsTown girls to visit a friend a couple of days ago - and get acquainted with her DollsTown girls: A row of pretty DollsTown girls by guyelfkin, on Flickr Teddy
All the girls look wonderful, and they look like they are having such a fun time! I miss having doll friends close by. When I moved 4 yrs ago, there aren't any doll collectors I'm aware, and if they are I would venture antique dolls. This area is all country and antiques.
I am very lucky. Even though I live in the country I joined two groups, one in Illinois and one in Wisconsin. I have to drive at least two hours one way to attend meet ups, but so worth it. Luckily my daughter in law joined the hobby about nine years ago and we go to meet ups together as well as talk dolls a lot. If you post where you're from you might get help finding others near you.
I missed this post until just now! It was great seeing your January again Teddy. @animemom I had to drive over 2 hours to get to this meet-up too.....but it was so worth the journey. Like you, I love meet-ups I took along my new Deogi....the girl in the blue dress with the blonde hair. Have I introduced her here yet? I have forgotten
You might not have introduced her here, but you have shared on Facebook page. I am going to get a Deogi as a little sister for Kaito asap and also the body I need for an Arin Head to be another boy. I wrote Dollstown asking they consider making a non gender specific body so the boys could wear tight shirts or no shirts in summer without worrying about breasts showing. Modifications on chests can get expensive. I took new photos of Kaito so will share here soon.
I hope you find someone within reachable distance fo meets soon. We all travelled from different counties to get to this meet, I suspect we were all taveling for similar amounts of time, although Alice and I went by train and met up in London to travel on from there together, while Jane drove. Jane's journey was probably the most time consuming. Not that the dolls would care about that, of course - they get put in the bag at one end and taken out at the othr so the journey itself is nothing to them. I'm pretty sre that my Arin boy has the same chest piece as the girl 7year body because they just used a different lower-body piece for the boy body (when they still made boy bodies, that is) : This is an old picture I took some years ago and I should get aorudn to doing comparison shots with January's girl body. I don't think you have, Jane (althoguh I haven't been getting notifications of posts to the thread so may have missed it), but it was lovely to see her at the meet. Teddy
Thanks Marie....you had me racing to your FB page as I knew I hadn't posted her photo there so I wondered what was going on!!! And I see that it was a friend who posted a photo of her.....not me. So all was fine. Anyway here is my new Deogi who arrived back in April but it has taken me ages to find eyes that I liked for her. This doll arrived on the smaller DT5 body, but when I saw her beautiful freckled face-up I remembered that I had a freckled DT7 body that had been waiting for a head for over a year!!! The body is an older freshskin one and the head is a newer orientalskin colour, but to be honest the colour match couldn't be more perfect so I am thrilled with the swap. I have called this new girl Jillian Now I just need to find a head for the spare DT5 body I have now! LOL!
@Teddy could you share a photo when you have time of your boy's chest next to a girl body. I could have sworn the boys were more flat. Plus I wish Dollstown didn't delete the albums of the old bodies and heads. It would be great for reference as its hard to recall details like that.
Oh @Jane she's adorable. I am so happy I am going back to Dollstown kids especially. No other company makes kids as great as Dollstown. Just wish things would ship so I can make more solid plans.
I agree....we have lost a really valuable resource *sigh* And thanks Teddy.....I wasn't getting notifications to this thread either. I just randomly checked and saw your photo of the meet-up
I have a memory like a steel trap - it crushes and mangles anything that gets caught in it - but I'll try to rememebr to take comparison shots of Arin and January for you Teddy
I appreciate that Teddy. I keep feeling I need to make a time line or something to record the dolls of Dollstown. So many bodies come, change or are gone as well as the heads. Thing is if I made it where to put it for prosperity esp if I can get photos.
Do you watch the thread? I do just don't ask for email updates, I just see it in my notifications at the top right of page.
OK here is Kaito with his latest pet, Samson the Lemur. Or is he a monkey? Anyway Parker wasn't taking very good care of him so when Kaito pet sat for Parker's lemur he bonded with the little guy so a new owner and a new name. Kaito with Pet, Samson. by Marie, on Flickr I love my new set up for photos. So much easier to set up the space for anything I want to photograph and it was here all along, but the diner was hogging it. Haven't felt like doing stories so this was better until maybe winter. Then the diner stories will resume.
I'd never remember to check on DoA regularly enough to keep up if I relied on that - I have email notifications of new posts to each of the threads I follow. Adorable! Teddy (Busily trying to copy across old photo's of Arin from ancient Photobucket accoun to new Flickr account....)
Kaito with Pet, Samson. by Marie, on Flickr Can you tell Samson loves Kaito. He really feels he is home with Kaito and he will never be ignored again.
OK while Wiki page for Dollstown is very good, it doesn't say when the heads were discontinued. I made lots of notes from the albums and I had holes that wiki filled. I just wish it had photos of at least a blank head and a blank body. Anyway it filled me in on what was what and I am going to write this all down in my spread sheet. Just for my own history as I owned most of the heads and owned everyone of the bodies but the 15 Yr girl I think.
I rely on the email notifications too, so if they stop coming I forget to check here. I've just agreed to buy a 5yr Freshskin body from a friend and have ordered Jea head today too! To answer your question from ages back @Jane I don't have specific plans to put her in the stories, although my Seola 7 will be appearing before too long, so maybe she could be a younger sister, who knows. Your new Deogi is so beautiful The meet you went to with @Teddy and Alice looks so much fun, I would loved to have been there. @animemom Kaito and Samson are adorable!
@mikki Congratulations on being so quick too and ordering that Jea head *yippee* I must order a head for the DT5 body I have one day soon too! And it was a fun meet-up at a fellow Sasha doll collectors house actually........it just happened that we all had DT7 dolls too. Hehehehehee. And thank you, I am thrilled with my new Deogi, she is just so different from my other one (Penelope) @animemom That is such a sweet photo of Kaito and Samson.
Thanks @Jane it's been a lovely surprise for me today really. For a good while now I've had 5yr Jea in mind for sometime in the future, but when Sally told me the 5yr body was no longer available from DT I decided to go for this opportunity. The website said her head was in stock, so hopefully she won't be too long.
@mikki Yes the DT5 body has been discontinued and that is why I am keeping the spare one I have, rather than sell it on. I have a fancy for a belligerent 5 year old in my stories one day in the future. But not just at the moment as I am still figuring out how my new Deogi (Jillian) fits in with the other girls. I like Jea so I can't wait to see yours
Well Kaito will soon be able to wear tighter t-shirts and all thanks to a local friend who was able to make the breasts go away. So that was one bit of good news, the second bit of good news is I just put in my order for his sister. A Deogi head and a seven year girl body. I also ordered a fresh skin body in elf size for the future head coming from Russia. But that won't be here until I hope not to long. Anyway kid sister hopefully before Kaito heads to Disney World. She's going to be so jealous, but not much I can do unless she arrives in early September then maybe send to friend in Ohio to do her face up. Not sure if hubby would allow two kids on trip. Maybe another trip I can take them both.
Good luck with all that! I took January (7Year Alina) and one of my SD gang on my honeymoon. There was now "allowing" involved, I just packed them and took them. Here they are enjoying our visit to the Japanese Tea Gardens in Golden Gate Park: Teddy
@animemom .................Thanks for all the updates. Great that you found a customiser who could work on the DT7 upper body, as that was really bothering you. And I am looking forward to seeing a Deogi at your house again *yippee* @Teddy.........are the girls wear dresses made from the same fabric? I love that they both have a style that suits them. And I always forget.....what colour resin is January please? I just remember that she is honey resin *duh me*
No - the subnlight was bright enough to wash out a lot of the detail. Maudie is in a dress I made from cotton printed with autumn leaves, and Janary is in and Anne dress with a pattern of wols (and a toy own in the pocket) I can never remember myself. I always have to look it up (and DT don't seem to be offeringn the Honey skin versions any more). I wanted to order Cocoa Tan but the names of some the colours were different on the DollsTown list from the ones on the Dollshe site (where the colours were illustrated) and I didn't want to risk getting something as dark as Espresso Ebony by mistake, so opted rorf the slightly lighter shade of Caramel Brown instead, and I can't say I was disappointed - I was happy to note that it actually looked darker in person anyway, so going for the lighter shade wasn't a problem at all. Teddy
Thanks Teddy........caramel brown rings a bell in my head now. And yes it is funny how the DT/Dollshe tan resin colours always photograph lighter than they really are. I wonder when DT cut back on the range of resin colour and mixes they offered? I missed that change
