coleen - this is his original dandelion head - prior to the other sizes he has come out with. Xiao Xing, Millie and Zoe by Martha David, on Flickr This is my original dandelion (she was my first BJD) with my original dollstown girls to give you a size comparison. This is the same head in the resin that comes closest to the dollstown resin. There are several others who have used the elf body to hybrid it this head.
@Xiaoli I love your little ladies in their sailor inspired outfits. I love your little Dandelion. The limited edition Dandelion head looks closer to Narae rather than the first Dandelion. I wanted the new head because I ordered my Narae with sleep head. I liked the shape of the jaw & mouth, but then she can't have her eyes closed all the time! The new Dandelion head looked like Narae with her eyes open. But I couldn't afford it, so my Narae will be sleeping a lot!
@Xiaoli that is a super photo of all your school girls, what a lot of work you've put into their outfits! I look forward to seeing their adventures
Oh my goodness! No posts here since January *gasp* I have to confess that I don't photograph my dolls as much as I used to but I am still loving them just as much as ever. Here is Penelope (my Deogi) out and about in the muddy park. Blue by Jane, on Flickr
Great picture of Penelope, Jane. She's the intrepid type so a bit of mud wouldn't put her off. I've not been taking many puictures either (the whole photobucket thing got me right out of the habit) but Winnie got a new dress the other day (not made by me, it's a Volks oufit) that I should let her show off, so I'll see if I can find where I put the camera. Teddy
Thanks Teddy and I agree about the mud not bothering Penelope. And I was wondering the other day about how much the loss of Photobucket had to do with me not photographing my dolls to the extent I used to. I used it a lot. Looking forward to seeing Winnie in her new dress soon now.....good luck with the camera hunt!
Penelope looks ready for an adventure! You might want to try Flickr for your photo hosting. The free version meets my needs and the advertising isn't obtrusive as with Photobucket.
I've sweitched to Flickr (and Jane's on there too) but I have the daunting prospect of around 12 years worth of photo's to pull off Photobucket and add onto Flickr... Meanwhile, my Flickr account has only a few pictures on as I get back into the swing of taking dolly-shots to share here. Hopefully, I'll get pictures of Winnie's new dress this weekend. Teddy
Teddy- that is a daunting task! I only have 17 photos on Photobucket and I wanted to pull them to load on Flickr and the darn ads kept popping up and slowed down my laptop and I gave up!
Thanks Coleen I really should take more photos of my dolls as I do like to look at them. They seem more alive in the photos somehow. And I love Flickr But I like to keep my account tight and tidy there, as I am active in a lovely dolly community over there. Photobucket was great for 'dumping' extra photos for hosting on other sites. I have opened a free account on Postimage to try and take the place that Photobucket had, but I am very wary of free accounts now. How are your DT dolls nowadays?
Well I hope you manage to get them at some point. Meanwhile, it looks like things are picking up here on the DT Mini thread thanks to Jane's picture of Penelope. Teddy
After getting Lilianna back from her faceup I'm afraid I didn't do much with dolls. I had several operations and just wasn't into the dolls. I have been busy knitting again for the dolls. But I am afraid I have ripped out more outfits than I have finished! I prefer crocheting over knitting but knitting patterns are easier to find. I'm wanting to make outfits for the DT girls and a new 43cm Narae I just received. I started a LuLaRoe clothing business and I am afraid the only photos I have taken are my inventory!
Our discussion of photo hosting led me to search the free hosting sites. I remember that I had photos of my trip to England that were hosted but I couldn't remember where. I discovered Shutterfly, which I used to use under a different email account. I logged back in and lo and behold there are my pics of Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, and London. Also pics of my OOAK dolls I sold to finance my BJDs! I can't remember what the site was called before Shutterfly bought them, but that was my main site I used to upload photos. There are photos back to 2002. Those photos were lost due to a hard drive crash so it is fun looking down memory lane. I guess I need to decide what site I want to use for photo storage.
How wonderful that you found them again!!! I am so pleased for you......good luck in deciding how to store them now. And I have almost stopped knitting for dolls at the moment.......I never did knit much, but I always made something for them. So last week I bought some laceweight yarn and as soon as I have this present (human size) project off my needles I am going to knit a cardi for one of my DT7 girls. I did make mittens for my girls last year though........ DT7 mittens by Jane, on Flickr
@Jane I love your mittens! I learned to knit when I was in the 7th grade. One of my girlfriend's mother had a knit shop in their basement and I took lessons from her. I made tons of slippers for the family from the pattern I was given in the knitting class. I made a sweater, booties, and a hat for my son when he was born. Again, I never did much after that but when I recently pulled out my craft boxes I found 2 projects still on their needles; a scarf and a shawl made from that crazy eyelash yarn. I love the look of it but it was a pain to knit with! I never progressed to cable or double pointed needles.
Thanks Coleen! Last year I learned to use double pointed needles with ease......in fact I can't stop knitting with them. To think it has taken me this long to feel wholly comfortable with them. But being able to use them with confidence has really changed my whole attitude to knitting, and made me (for the first time) in control of my knitting. I am so looking forward to knitting more for the dolls now.
I'm having problems with yarn overs. I can't get a consistent look. And several patterns I purchased have those. Hence the many rip outs! I have never used circular needles either.
Do all the doll knitters know that Dollswest is closing at the end of this month? DollsWest Designs Her KW size patterns work perfectly for the DT7 girls
No; I did not. I recently downloaded her free patterns, possibly found link here on DoA. I am off to visit her site right now! Thanks for the heads up Jane!
So am I Clara! LOL! But mittens it must be first, as I promised Penelope (DT Deogi) that I would makes hers next.
After taking a break for several weeks, you have inspired me to pick up my needles again @Jane . I am knitting a short cardi for my DT girls.
I am too slow a knitter Clara and I have wrist issues so sometimes I have to stop knitting entirely.......sorry. I can't wait to see what you are making Coleen......do you use a pattern or just make it up as you go along?
Hmmm... I stopped gettign notifications about posts to this thread so just had to have a little catch-up read... Glad to hear you found your old photos, Coleen. I must give that mitten knitting pattern a try, Jane, but like you, my wrists (carpal tunnel, in my case) have put a damper on the knitting side of things and I haven't picked it back up again much since October. Good luck with Peneelope's mittens, and the cardi after that. And I STILL haven't taken that picture of Winnie in her new dress.... {sigh!} Teddy
The trouble @Jane and @Teddy is that when we are a little older and have more time to knit our body wants to give us issues! I too have had 2 carpal tunnel surgeries on my right wrist and I have arthritis. I don't notice the problem when I am knitting,, but when I go to bed I can feel my wrist and arms aching. I use a pattern Jane. I am using a Soudane pattern I got from Etsy. Créations Soudane by soudane. I did try a hand at my own pattern, and ripped it all out! When I pulled out my box of yarns and threads I found a bunch of ponchos I made for the 16" fashion dolls and a tip I made from my own. I discovered the top fits my new Narae!
Thanks Clara ((hugs)) Sorry to hear you are having wrist issues too Teddy *sigh* I cast on and have completed the cuff of the first yellow mitten for Penelope. And I am still looking forward to seeing Winnie soon.....hehehehee Isn't this the case! *rolls eyes* And thank you for the link to Soudane's pattern site. I haven't decided which pattern I will cast on yet......I will get this next mitten project finished first.
What sale period???? Jane dashes off to the DT site to find out more......thanks Coleen! Adding in a question: does anyone know how to order a face-up with a head? Do you email Mr Anjonghak and ask for it to be added? Second edit! I found out how to do it *duh me*
@coleen Thank you very much for pointing it out. I have a spare DT7 freshskin body here that has been waiting for a head for over 6 months now. I am just deciding if I get a DT face-up or get an artist in the UK to paint a head for me. Are you ordering?
I'm not this time around. I just ordered the special Dandelion heads from Bimong and will order the classic Narae body next week when his sale period opens. So many dolls, so little money. sigh
I know that feeling so well! LOL! We are on rotation display over here.....I simply don't have the space to have them all out at once now.
My Deogi has a DT faceup and it was really easy. Before I placed my order I sent 3 or 4 photos of the general style I was looking for (basically I wanted red hair colouring and no sad eyebrows) and asked if they could do it. They replied that they could and then I placed the order. It was really easy and communication was great. I'm also trying to decide whether to order during the sale. I have a Seola (no faceup yet) and I'm trying to decide whether she should just share Deogi's body or have her very own.
Thank you so much Kristin......did you have to request a custom face-up or did all that communication count as a standard one? And good luck with deciding about the body sharing idea. I am playing body sharing with 3 of my SD girls with ease but I like my DT7 gang to play together so I simply couldn't do it with them.
It was custom. In retrospect, I should have just scoured the DT Flickr albums and found one that looked close on another doll so it would have just been standard. I was a bit afraid of her looking too old if I chose a faceup from a sculpt meant for an older body type. Even the custom price is pretty reasonable, especially when you figure you don't have additional shipping charges to and from a third party faceup artist. I wish they offered faceups when I ordered Seola! Which head are you considering getting for your body?
Thanks again Kristin....that really helps. And I understand what you mean about choosing a face-up style from an older doll and requesting that for a child sculpt. I prefer how some of the lips are painted on some of the older dolls........I have lots to think about here The usual suspects....Maru, Amy 5 or Jea
I love Maru! I have considered getting her, but I think she might look too old to be friends with Una, though. I have also considered Jea, who looks much younger.
I am totally undecided at the moment. I would like her to work with the girls I already have and they are young (around about 7 years old I always imagine) so I too worry about Maru looking too old for this gang. But then I always thought Alina was an 'older' sculpt until I saw Teddy's Alina's and they are young. I am still deep in the thinking stage
The faceup can definitely make a difference. The faceup I got for my Amy definitely looked older than the faceup for Deogi. I ended up getting Deogi facedup again. Instead of 5 and 7 I made the girls 7 and 9,
@Jane I opened a Postimage account too, to use for sale photos etc, as I like to try and keep Flickr for nicer photos. I was really pleased with it until yesterday when I was bumping my sale threads and noticed all the images had vanished! I went to the site and there's a notice saying the domain is locked. It gives a new domain to use, but I just sighed and stuck my pics on Flickr. I might check out Shutterfly @coleen that sounds good. Anyway, here's a pic of Jodi looking rather fed up at being taken to the beach in the pouring rain. Have fun choosing your new girl's head Jane
It is a real bother about Postimage.....isn't it *sigh* I will give them a week longer to see if they fix the issue before looking into Shutterfly. I love that shot of Jodi in the rain. I think she needs a friend to help cheer her up! Heheheheee Here is my girl Penelope (Deogi) at the beach too but I had better weather last week.....windy but at least it was dry. I have more photos of her to show but I haven't loaded them to Flickr yet
@mikki and @Jane I love the photos of your girls at the beach. I love the wildness and naturalness of coastal beaches. Where I live they are just small man-made beaches on man-made lakes. Ah, the saga of the photo hosting sites...
Thanks @Jane and I think you're probably right, she does look rather lonely doesn't she. That is a fabulous photo of Penelope, it's just perfect, her outfit, rucksack, picnic table, everything. She is such a pretty girl with a pensive expression. Thanks very much @coleen
@coleen I live very nearly in the centre of my country so only get to see the coast about twice a year........I get so excited when I see the sea. Are the lakes near where you live very large? @mikki Yes! She needs a friend of her own age! And thank you, I felt mean only taking one doll of holiday with me last week but I knew the weather forecast wasn't going to be that great for photos so I settled on just the one BJD in the end and Penelope got lucky. This photo was taken on a small outcrop that gets cut off by the tide so I had to keep an eye on the time when I was taking photos here.
@Jane where I currently live are only small ponds and lakes at a golf course and Boy Scout camp. I grew up on Indian Lake, which is a 5000+acre lake. Until 4 years ago I lived near the Ohio River, separating Ohio and Kentucky; long, but not wide and full of commercial or industrial development. I am now at the opposite end of the State and I am about 1 1/2 hours from Lake Erie. It is a large lake, one of the 5 Great Lakes.
@Jane Oooh, being cut off by the tide wouldn't be fun for you or Penelope. She looks as though she was keeping a good lookout. @coleen Wow, a 5000 acre lake! I'm trying to imagine how big that looks!
@coleen I had to go to Google maps to get an idea of where you live. I can remember learning about the Great Lakes (as we called them) in Geography lessons in primary school, many many years ago. @mikki it wouldn't have been fun at all as it was so cold last week! And so far I am leaning towards getting a Jea to go on that spare DT7 body I have
Last time I looked Jea was the top of my DT wish list. I daren't go looking again at the moment because sadly I have to be good for ages!
@mikki Oh bother about you having to be 'good for ages' *rats* Unless it is a good reason you have be good of course! I am lucky, as I have an extra special big birthday at the end of the month. So I am allowed treat myself.....so long as I don't spend too much
@Jane It's mostly Iple FID men, haha, although there is a crown and bridge denting the purse too. Oh lovely, yes extra special big birthdays deserve treats for sure!
*rats* about the dental work Mikki ((hugs)) And I wondered how old Una was Kristin, as I knew she was a Girl Guide and not a Brownie Guide. And an update: It occurred to me this morning that I am looking to buy because there is an Event on at Dollstown, and not because I need a new character And that (for me) is not a good enough reason to buy. And that would also explain why I can't make up my mind about who to buy........so I am shelving buying plans at the moment. I will buy when I am aching to buy someone
Yes, I know the body is supposed to represent a 7 year old, but I have a tall lanky 12 year old daughter and the DT7 body looks far more like her now than it did when she was 7, so that's the age that works for me. I love that it is so versatile and covers an age range of a few years very well. This is very wise. I am also on the fence. My Seola doesn't have a faceup yet and I’m not sure she will even “live” in the same time period as Una. If she is more modern, they can easily share a body.
If she doesn't live in the same time period they can easily share the body.......what colour resin is Una?
