Dollstown Mini discussion part 6

She's an English WW2 evacuee. I don't have all the details of her character worked out, but it's not that important, I suppose. Right now she's just wearing some things left over from other dolls, though in her general style (however they don't fit quite right). I'm looking for fabrics and such for making her wardrobe, presently.

 

That's a great story! My uncle was also an evacuee when he was small, he did not think much of the experience. I don't know the details, though... he'd never really discuss it. I remember he enjoyed the movie "Hope and Glory", though he was reluctant to watch it at first. In it, the boy character is almost evacuated, but his mum couldn't bear to let her children actually go, and an embarrassing scene (from his point of view) ensues.

I do plan to make her a gas mask box. I have a 1/3 scale box I made for an 18" doll, but Mary Herring (her name, which is a play on her original name) will need hers to be 1/4 scale.

 

I tried it on her, and it looks too oversized. I had made it for an 18" doll (chunkier frame, if you will), so that's probably why!

Now I'm struggling to get some patterns together to make her clothing... I'm a bit rusty at this stuff, and when I moved my pattern collection disappeared :-P

If you look for KW size patterns they are about the right size for a DT7 girl
And Martha Boers has a basic dress pattern for free on her page that is a good starting point too

Hello! Hopefully this is an okay place to ask: does anyone have experience with/recommendations for heads that would hybrid well with a DT 7 year body? I am hoping to find a little sister for my Maskcatdoll Yael. I absolutely love DollsTown's sculpting, but I am curious about other options that would work with scale of the body.

I'm curious - when you go about choosing a head to hybrid with these bodies, how do you determine whether it will be a good "fit" literally and aesthetically? I think I am most worried about the head looking disproportionate or stylistically too different - but all of your hybrids look very intentional! Is there anything in particular you keep in mind?

 

The 7yr body is one of the favorites in my collection since they are so portable relative to my 60-70cm adults. I opted to hybrid the body with the Black Cherry Dolls Xiao Yu head. Most people pair that head with the Elf body, but I got it in my mind that she looked more child like than young adult. I especially asked the faceup artist to paint her with "unkempt" eyebrows because that feature really helps to make her look younger.



I also never know if I should post her in this thread or the Black Cherry Dolls (Large Dolls) thread since she doesn't fully belong in either, but if this helps others think of hybrid options with the 7yr body, then I'm glad.

 

She is really lovely @VeraLyne, such a sweet face, and I'm glad you posted her here as I wouldn't have known about her and how perfect she looks on the 7yr body.

 

Thanks for the warm welcomes @mikki and @Teddy! I adore my Dollstown bodies. My other MSD sized doll was a Big Baby, and I happened to get Xaga Doll BB hands that work pretty well with the 7yr body. So if you're looking for alternate hand options. I had luck with them.

@VeraLyne the girl looks so nice with this body! Now I'm pondering on whether to give my XiaoYu DT Elf body or 7yr one...

Hello everyone
I have a dollstown doll in a 5 years old body that has been disassembled for some time.
Today I decided to reassemble it and only found three hooks. One big and two for the hands and I was in doubt: were there supposed to be 2 hooks for the feet? Or does the cord simply loop at the foot joint?

 

That's gorgeous Teddy, it's perfect for January. I do love her, it's great to see her again.

I did the restrain to the dollstown 5 years old body and the body wobbles and doesn't pose very well. Should I tighten the elastics more or does the body 5 years old just not pose very well in general?

I am thinking of adding a Dala as I miss having MSD sized Dollstown kids. Plus my other MSD girl would love a friend to share stuff with.

I did it! I ordered a Dala on the 7 yr body in Copper Oriental. Hope to have her here in 3-4 weeks depending on DT schedule and any holidays. Will share photos once she is home. So excited.

 

Has anyone have there 7 year body as a boy. I am was thinking of turning a Dala into a boy.

My Dala could arrive on Monday. Depends on customs as it went in but not out yet.

 

Does Dollstown provide a certificate when you buy just a body?

 

@nancy_schroeder_ca It seems so. My Dollstown 7years body from 2018 did come with a COA. But if I remember correctly, back in the *really* old days, the bodies did not come with a COA?

 

Thanks! Someone told that they didn’t give them in the old days, but the year you got one helps a lot!

 

Alas, it seems like I always arrive to bjd things rather late. I've quite taken to these 5 and 7 year old sculpts from Dollstown and may order one sometime over the summer. (Still deciding on which sculpt!)

 

@Teddy - excellent to know, I'll have my sueding kit at the ready for whomever I eventually decide on.

 

I got her then sold her as was stupid. So now getting her in Oriental skin and this time she will stay.

Can anyone tell me how wide the 7 Yr girl's foot is. They give length, but not width. Thank you, M

 

I measured my 7yr's foot and the width was 1 inch or 2.5cm. She is an old girl though, so I don't know if the new ones are the same.
