Dollshe Discussion - Part Sixteen

Mar 1, 2020

    1. @VampireAngel13 - he's beautiful, and i love the outfit and stance for the photo, very well done :thumbup now i'm humming a song...

@Iron_Dog - i got out my new studio light, and had a decent sunbeam that wasn't going through the greenish glass we have... if you want anything else i have compared, just let me know. i guess the AoD is creamier than i thought, my Universe Doll is much more paper white.

I had this idea that an IOS 60cm body might work for you since it has the10cm head. My NS 70cm IOS body matches to varying degrees a lot of other colours spanning rosy white to pink to NS, and even Charm Doll yellow. scroll a bit here for the measurements... so if you want to see that with the Timeless i can try to do it tomorrow to get out the big boys.

Also, DZ B60-005 has a 9.3cm neck? and maybe the peach or DZ pink would work, that is a slimmer body than the IOS i think. you have to look at a full set doll like Snow to get the measurements on their site.

Here is the AoD white hand on my blank Venitu in older OR which i believe is lighter than the "new" OR from Dollshe. Studio light vs. sunlight. the studio light looks pretty accurate to what i see with my eyes, but you know how it is with monitors... ymmv...
that is the same background in both.

flickr link here if you want to look at the large photo .
and, if we need to put this thread in a hybrid channel just let me know.
i'm waiting for my Dollshe's so i have none to spam at the moment :pout:

    2. I ordered my boy in November 2018 and had his head changed to Bermann about a year later. I think the last I heard, the molds hadn't been made yet.

    4. Anyone happen to have a stringing guide for the original Dollshe bodies? It looks like their stringing is pretty standard except for the knot at the neck, and I'm a little concerned about being able to get it back together. My guy is ancient and only ever came with a Dollshe bag and I believe a CoA, no instructions or anything else.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:
      https://i.imgur.com/44CKZQz.png

    5. Oh no. I ordered Diana from the site. Did not read all the info here. Am I in trouble? Will I ever get the doll? Help!

    6. Diana should be fine, she has already been cast and sold before. Not sure about different skin colors since darker colors can take longer but you should get her within a few months. My Saint took 6 months last year.

      • x 2
    7. @Frillseeker I'm fairly confident that you'll get her eventually! I wouldn't worry about that. The time you wait is what's up in the air. @Revvy may have got her saint in 6 months, but I'm on 18 months for mine, and he's in oriental so not an uncommon color. Wait times are completely random.

      • x 2
    8. Should I just cancel and redo the order through BJDivas? I only ordered an hour ago.

    9. that might take just as long. there's no guarantees with DollShe

      • x 2
    10. @Revvy, @Thymeseer, @Girrl,

Thank you for this encouragement. I really do want the doll, but 18 months? Why do people do business with them? Obviously you guys have loved the products, and I have other dolls to work with. Diana has a ballet foot, and is so much less expensive than Popovy. Youโ€™ll hear the biggest cheer when I get her..

    11. Yeah, unfortunately the problem with Dollshe is that the dolls are just too nice, the prices are too good, and we get drawn into the trap, even though most of us know the wait times are ridiculous. I'm quite sure I'll be ordering more once the four I'm waiting for arrive eventually. It's always been worth the wait, to be honest (I have five Dollshe dolls, four ordered directly from the Dollshe site; I waited only a few months for my fashion boys, about a year for Classic Maxi Rey Lewis, and over a year and a half for fashion Diana in Copper Oriental. Didn't regret any of them!)

That being said, I was wondering... Does anybody have an idea if the new Fresh resin color might match the old Oriental? I know the new Oriental doesn't match the old one, and the old Fresh is a shade lighter than old Oriental, but I'm wondering how the new Fresh might fit in. I want to buy a Mystic body for my floating Saint head I got as a gift from a friend this year, it's in old Oriental (same as my Rey Lewis). Should I get it a new Oriental body and tried to blush it to match, or would Fresh work better?
(Huh... maybe the question would be better asked in the discussion threat rather than here?)

    12. I've posted this pic before in the old thread but it's dark so I can't take a good new pic right now. Far left is "old" oriental, from around 2010. Far right is pale fresh from 2019.

    13. I apologize for my late response @Grimalkin but DoA dropped the ball and didn't send me thread notifications again *grrrrrr*.

The IOS body is lovely but still too muscled for Oleander. He needs to be very... sleek for lack of a better word. He has a girlish figure and with the right wardrobe, he can easily pass for a pretty female (he does use that aspect of his appearance when working as a spy/infiltrator).

The photos are very helpful for more than just Oleander resin matching purposes as those specific AoD hands are ones I was toying with for another of my dolls. I may PM you to bug you about measurements of them so I don't drag the thread too far afield.

    14. ^^^ a few got by me too in here lately :thumbup. it's all good.

and well, i finished the layaway for David & Grant in 28M Classic... prolly nowhere near done  only 10 months...

of course, i'm eyeballing the grey now.. anyone have a Soom grey & Dollshe grey side by side?

      • x 1
    15. Hopefully you're not waiting too long on that order @Grimalkin

      • x 1
    16. As much as I really was looking forward to Tom Cruise, Natalie etc, Ive decided to cancel all 5 of my orders because I feel like Ive been years for them to be made only for them not to have been in production yet - Tom Cruise doesnt even have a prototype since those computer renderings in June 2017! Those werent sale dolls, those were full package, full priced dolls.

I was willing to wait because I always read that dollshe dolls were worth it for the quality alone, but after comparing my Khan body with the Khan body my friend got recently, theres a massive difference in weight, the strings and just the general feel of the resin. I believe Dollshe changed a lot of things, including his resin formula and making some shortcuts to keep up with the demand of the sale dolls. I personally preferred the older one and will not be buying anything from him. When my refund gets processed by Diva's, Im going to save it for Agatti's Tom Cruise instead. I guess in a way this was a blessing, because I didnt like the production Natalie, and much preferred the grey prototype Natalie with the dark wig that I ordered.

Has anyone seen overlook_stories on instagram about the knee breakage issues? I would take a look and then either make the resin thicker/stronger on the top part of the leg, or sand the ball joint smaller or even make the hinge of the upper leg shorter so it wouldnt be prone to breaking.

The 28M is one of my favorite male bodies, Im just happy enough that I own one that I got secondhand, its an amazing body and the silicone kips in it is genius.

    17. Makes me so sad to hear of the issues with knee breakage etc on some of the new dolls...........
I am glad I have quite a few to enjoy as I won't be ordering any more from them either.
Playing with my Mystic Bermann this morning. I got him a couple of years ago, and so far so good with his resin quality etc.

    18. I had heard about the knee breakage problems on the Mystic body back in... 2018? But not a peep since so I assumed the issue was resolved or mitigated somehow. Didnโ€™t know it was ever a factor with the other bodies. That is too bad.

Hmm, Iโ€™m eager now to compare my incoming Mystic body with the one I received in 2018 and see if there is a noticeable weight difference.

For some that may actually be a plus and lead to easier posing and handlingโ€”one complaint I have often heard about the larger dolls is that people have trouble with the weight of the latest generation. So it doesnโ€™t necessarily mean a change was purely a decision to cut corners. I have always appreciated Dollsheโ€™s weighty, toothy feel but have owned and handled less expensive dolls with lighter resin that I found to be far less brittle. Maybe they decided to change resin for the breakage and weight issues. (Curious about the timeline with the faulty dolls and a formula change.) Or maybe it was cost. Maybe they wanted a resin that cures faster. (?) Many questions. Guess Iโ€™ll decide for myself if itโ€™s a good or bad thing when my guy arrives. Maybe I should get an electronic scale...

    19. Does anyone in here happen to have either an older Amanda, Erica, or Ausley head and a Zaoll of any of the sculpts head? I am wondering if they are similar in size and have not seen any comparisons anywhere.

    20. You might be able to find a older thread with instructions on how to re-string the older 1st Gen body, I long since sold mine and only have the Pure Body version of Hound and Rosen, gee can't believe they are from 2014!!

      • x 1
    21. I got a question to the people who have the old Hound body.

Did anyone of you ever try to attach different feet to it?
I'm kinda sick of not being able to find shoes for my guy. Granted the style I wish for is rare enough as it is, but at least a lot of female shoes come close enough.
Of course those are all too small for him

Since I don't want to cut off his toes (unless I would get another pair of Hound feet), I thought about maybe attaching smaller feet to the body. Maybe even female ones.

    22. What style of shoes are you looking for for him? If you're looking for heels, a handful of places have been making high heels for larger boy-sized bodies (~SD17 size, their feet are huge). I can go try a pair on my Hound if that's what you're looking for!

Edit: I had them handy so I can confirm that this model fits the original Dollshe body (and likely the 18 Pure body as well). I didn't try standing him, but I don't think there's anything in his engineering that would prevent it aside from an overall lack of balance that Imo is kind of inherent to Dollshes anyway >w<.
I have a handful of other heels that are currently packed away but I can give those a shot in a few days if anyone's interested.

    23. @Astro
      Thanks for the info!
I don't even want high heels for him (even if a tiny heel would be nice).
It's just that the doll is a bit of a kitschy lace monster, and most shoes for that size are modern/modern classic.
Female shoes have just way more style options it seems, especially at the "soft look" front :(

That's the aesthetic he has (he is an LLT head on the Dollshe body):

Something shaped like this or similar, lacy and white, would be nice :pout:
Had hoped I could put some SD16 female sized feet onto the body (with and without heel), if the ball joint is big enough.

    24. @Ara I have a guy (OT for this thread) who would fight to the death to wear the coat your boy is sporting. The court shoes are also something he'd wear in a heartbeat. I ended up putting girl heeled feet on him because finding boy shoes in that style in his size (he's an Iple FID) was mission impossible.

    25. @Iron_Dog honestly, buying this outfit was one of the best hobby decisions I made in all these years  I wish it was easier to get stuff like that.

Also FID size? Oh god, I already struggle to get even regular stuff for the guys there at times, more whimsical fancy stuff seems absolutely impossible *_*

The thing is, I do remember that Dollheart made shoes like that loooooong ago, and I think even for SD17 and up. But I haven't seen those in ages.

    26. @Ara I own all the weird doll sizes (and dolls). No, really, I do. The number of little seen dolls I have is a bit boggling. I make most of the clothes for my guys and very few of them can wear the same thing and have it fit right. My 2 Dollshe's have the same body so they're fine size-wise to share clothes but Akusuo is all elegant ancient Asian inspired stuff and Wu-Tyr is the sluttier the better.

Out of 32 SD's, 15 of them are some flavour of 50-ish cm boys. I have multiples of certain types (3 SD Vito's and 2 Soom ID51's) but everybody else is from a different company and requires their own patterns. Finding shoes for all of them is a nightmare because they're that weird in-between MSD/SD size and none of them wear modern style shoes, compounding the problem.

    27. @Ara you dont have to change his feet to get those shoes

Ive commissioned someone a few years ago and even though she didnt have the foot model, she did an amazing job and she does shoes similar to the one youve been looking for. If you are interested, you should email her. Im not sure if she's still active because I havent seen updates, but she came to mind when you posted the look you were going for in that shoe reference picture

    28. @GreenTeaSlug
      Thanks for the link!

I actually wrote Whispering Grass/Ira on etsy as well for a shoe commission, and while she agreed on making me something like I want she is currently closed until the end of the year at least.
Had hoped to find a faster/easier (and well, maybe cheaper) solution than commissioning shoes :abambi:

Am still baffled that after all these years the range of available shoe designs is still so lackluster. At least we now got more than visual kei platform boots

      • x 2
    29. I dislike platform boots/shoes only because I went through that style in real life back when dinosaurs roamed the planet and we had no other options because that was the fashion of the day. I've also only got... 4? dolls who wear modern clothes so....

    30. @Ara I havenโ€™t seen shoes like that for big boys yet, but Iโ€™m currently combing through Taobao for 70+cm shoes and Iโ€™ll try to remember to link you if I find anything similar to what you want!

    31. If I can find my Dollheart shoes, I'll see what I have.

    32. Popping in here because I have a Grant Phillippe on order. Just want to say thank you for ideas on where to find some custom shoes! :D

Because, as it turns out, thigh high flat footed boots are apparently impossible to find, let alone for a 70cm doll. :XD:

Now, does anyone know where I might find leather/pleather gloves for a 70cm boy? All I can seem to find are knit gloves, if anything at all, and those simply won't work. I've managed to commission 90% of his outfit, but his gloves and boots have been real stumping me.

Semi related, but does anyone have jointed hands for their classic maxi bodies? If so, which did you go with, and how do they fit?

      • x 1
    33. Ooh yay, another Grant! He's such a handsome guy. :)
Hmm. I'd say for gloves you could ask SapharBJD on Instagram, and for boots possibly Whispering Grass? I know WG has commissions closed for the rest of the year, but could be worth an enquiry.

I've not tried jointed hands on my two 28M bodies, their wrists are quite narrow and almost flat? Sort of like a real human wrist, instead of it being a rounded ball-joint. It's also hard to find jointed hands that are the right scale but still have a narrow joint. Perhaps someone else can chime in with advice?

    34. Yep, SapharBJD is making his clothes! She has been a real delight to work with, she is so nice, and takes down a lot of notes to make sure things are just right! I won't get my stuff from her until probably July of next year though, her Queue is so backed up. The only things she couldn't make are his gloves and boots, thus why I must continue the hunt!

I'll try WG on Etsy, doesn't matter to me that she is closed until the end of the year, like I said, it won't be until end of July that I get his clothes.

    35. @Ara I just got this style for my ruffle boy in white and black patent. I can try them on my old Bermann to see if they fit. You could add a little lace wrap or trim to fluff em up.

@Jayoen check Meow Marts for doll gloves, they do group orders every now and again. They'll be pleather and eventually disintegrate and fall apart (like all pleather does), but for a while you'll have gloves. They're fufuzuzi21484 on insta.

      • x 1
    36. I just got those in and they're terribly narrow. I tried them on my Hound's foot and you might be able to get them in with a bit of heat from a hair dryer and a lot of effort, but it's not something I want to risk since I think you're pretty likely to tear the shoe. I'm not even sure if they'll fit the doll I bought them for :...(

    37. Oh awesome! I've been meaning to jump onto her waiting list as I need a looooot of clothing for weirdly proportioned dolls. And also just basic things like underwear for my David and Grant because DAMN. They're thicc bois. (I love them and they are quite literally the "butt" of the jokes at doll meets).
Ah well, good luck with your hunt for gloves and boots!
Hopefull WG can help out. Her work is gorgeous!

    38. Thanks guys, I had looked at those shoes actually on Rrabit and had asked myself if they would fit :sigh

At this point I think I'm actually going to ditch his old body anyway. The skin match isn't good and he has the usual posing issues, at this point I might just go for something that is a better fit and see then what to do about his shoes.

    39. I was just looking at the Classic Mini Arsene page, being sad they were never made and seemingly never will be (all the 18M are sold out), and then I saw that all the sizes of arsene head had been printed and the 18M body as well! with a note saying "I will complete the prototype sooner than planned. Delivery should start sooner than planned."
      :nowords: Welp. What happened.

    40. I'm not sure I'd believe Dollshe about the 55cm. The original first orders (which I was part of) were offered up 2.5 years ago for sale. I cancelled my order after nearly 19 months of waiting and countless excuses of why they hadn't even gotten the prototype printed. I'll believe it's actually made when somebody gets their order in their hot little hands. yeah, I'm going to be forever salty about that order.

      • x 3
    41. What @Iron_Dog said. I don't believe a single thing Dollshe says and haven't for years, considering that the only reason why I got my Saint when I did is because he said they were being discontinued probably 7 or 8 years ago. He has since been "discontinued" and then brought back multiple times.

      • x 2
    42. @Astro Yep. That's why I purchased Wu-Tyr's head (Orijean) years ago. He said at the time that it was the final sale of the sculpt and once the in-stock stuff was gone, that was it. Only... no, it wasn't.

      • x 2
    43. @Iron_Dog @Astro I know. This is an old listing. There's pictures of the printer pieces, but still never made it into production! I guess priming was too much work??
I was just venting my disappointment. I really wanted the Classic and Fashion mini lines when they were announced.

      • x 1
    44. Yep! Probably the same sale. It was one of those "Hey, I'm discontinuing all of my original sculpts!" fire sales, I believe the first time they ever did it. I think Mr. Dollshe has done at least 3 more fake discontinuation sales since then, and those are just the ones I hear about through friends. I pay no attention to Dollshe as a company anymore because they lost my trust many years ago because of their lies, and it's very sad to see that their behavior and quality has worsened over the years since then over a variety of things (including stealing my friend's personal photos for sales listings! What a guy) Anymore if someone says that Dollshe is discontinuing a sculpt I'm like "oh, must be Tuesday, Dollshe's lying about discontinuing sculpts again!" :whee:

I do love my Saint and Hound very much though. I'm still on the quest to find places that still make clothes for the original bodies/the 18 pure bodies. Last night I learned that Sadol can still make things for Hound bodies, but their collection is a little lackluster right now. That was also my issue with Freedom Teller, their new preorder collection just didn't do it for me as much as I desperately wanted to be able to buy something from it.
If anyone has suggestions on where to clothes shop for that type of body, I'd really appreciate it.

      • x 3
    45. I have the afore mentioned Orijean and a Hound. I purchased the Hound 2nd hand because I'm not willing to play the waiting game with Dollshe. Any other Dollshe purchases that may happen in the future will only be 2nd unless something in clearly in-stock.

      • x 1
    46. I tried searching in the forums without much luck, maybe one of you guys could help me. I want to order some custom eyes for my boy before he gets here, but I keep getting conflicting info. If I'm spending $90ish on a set of eyes, I deffo want them to fit.

What size eyes do you have in your Grant Phillippe (classic maxi/70cm)? Some say 14mm, some say 12mm. Can I get pictures that show any gaping or lack of? And what size eyes you are using, whether they are normal Iris or small iris. Thank you much.

    47. New doll on the site, Maya! Again it's a preorder without a prototype (and again Dollshe's claiming production will only take 3 months). She looks really cute though. If she ever gets send out to people I'd love to see owner pics.

      • x 1
    48. Ooh sheโ€™s pretty!
Iโ€™m gonna wait for owner pics, both because of wait times for preorders and because I already have a dollshe on order, but sheโ€™s definitely piquing my interest!

    49. In five years, I might have to get one!

      • x 3
    50. If it's ready in 5 years....

      • x 5
    51. She's kinda cute...but that "discount" is madness. She definitely will not be ready in 3 months.

      • x 3
    52. if dolls he already has molds for aren't ready in 3 months I really can't see how that's remotely possible for a doll that hasn't even been sculpted yet...

      • x 1
    53. Hah we know Maya is not going to be ready in 3 months lol. I'm just about to hit month 17 for my Ausley Love, Amanda Beauty and Erica Snow haha. I also have a King Corey on order too, but that one was more recent and I'm hoping for only a year :XD:

    54. oh man, King Corey! (~swoons~) you really need to spam the hell out of him when he (finally) arrives, he's such a rare one to see in the wild

    55. Yeah he is super rare! I love his lips though (and nose and eyes..lol). I had been thinking about Rey Lewis and everytime I went to look at the photos, I would end up on King Corey's page so I took it as a sign :XD: He'll be in pale tan ( I have an IM Hound and a Rosen in pale tan and loooove them) and I am just so freaking happy to have ordered him. I, uh, just need to forget about him for a year or two or so lol

      • x 1
    56. I have a Rey Lewis in pale tan, it's such a lovely sculpt. The poor boy's been sitting in his box bald, naked, and unpainted since I got him while I get my tendon issues in my hands and arms sorted - it's kind of hard to decide how one wants a doll to look when you can barely pick them up :sigh Fortunately he's gorgeous blank, but we have an everybody-has-to-wear-at-least-underwear rule since my dolls all just hang out in groups around the apartment, and I've got nothing on hand that fits him :o so he's waiting for me to be able to sew him something. If I had the space I'd order a King Corey myself, but I have no idea who he'd be (aside from pretty, so very pretty) and I'm struggling enough already with my Rey Lewis

    57. Hi guys! I'm new here - I'd like to order a Pure Ebony Diana - but I'm not seeing clear info on the head size and the eye size (both of which are important to me). The 16F Classic sculpts (61cm) are not fashion dolls are they? (I mean, technically at that size they can't be, but the discount is NUTS and I'm a little scared - my last two dolls were both disappointing in some way).

      Any help is WILDLY appreciated.

Also - Amanda is quite possibly a dream doll. I've seen a few darker tanned ones in the marketplace and only willpower and lack of finances actually stopped me.

    58. @Teruchan They're not fashion dolls, but please be aware that Dollshe wait times can take a year or more in part due to the constant discounts.

    59. Ah great to know! Thank you so much - I wound up ordering an Amanda Beauty in Cocoa tan :)

I had no idea that they discounted like this! It was such a shock to see nearly 70% disappear off the main pricetag?! But as they make truly brown and ebony resin I'm pretty much stuck lol. I'll probably forget all about ordering her by the time she arrives :sweat

    60. @Teruchan Yeah, Dollshe has been running fire sales and fake discontinuation sales like this for years now, and it seems like the prices keep getting lower. There are caveats though, in addition to the insane wait time there's apparently been a noticeable decrease in quality, with unannounced resin color changes and missing parts that were supposed to be included. You might wanna backread this thread for a few pages just to know what to expect.
