Dollshe Discussion - Part Sixteen

Mar 1, 2020

    1. Thanks everyone!! I'll experiment with your suggestions and I'll get his darn face on.

    2. I just went to dollshe's site and Im currently drooling over their Leo prototype TuT
Any news on dollshe's waiting time? Or are we still at 1+ years of waiting....

    3. .... I highly suggest you go check out the conversation in the waiting-room thread.

    4. Hi! @ILikeSushi39 I love Leo too! I put in for the sketch order last November. When I did, I expected it might be about 3 years wait. The prototype head has been 3D printed, so some progress is being made. The wait times are very long. I don't know of a wait time longer than for Dollshe dolls. I didn't see myself moving in the next several years and I'm okay with a long wait, but I don't think that many in the hobby have multiple years worth of patience. I also don't know if anyone does go back to the waiting room to update if they do get delivery. Sometimes we do see new dolls in this thread, so they eventually do get delivered. There have been some pre-ordered that never were 3D printed though, even years later.

    5. I feel your pain lol I use double sided craft tape- I tear it into thin strips and attach it to the head back piece all along the edge which connects with the faceplate. I’ve found it works really well, and cannot be seen from the outside. Sometimes it works so well I have trouble getting the face plate off! But I still turn his head while holding onto both parts of his head, as I’m paranoid that way :sweat

      • x 1
    6. I use eye putty - the green stuff that sticks really really well. Paper tape like you use when painting a house also works to keep faceplates and head caps on :)

      • x 2
    7. @Cyador Do you know is the green putty Faber-Castell brand? Some came with a doll, but I was afraid to use it since I've never tried before. Does it ever get hardened and difficult to remove? I've struggled with some blue types from second hand dolls, but I've never seen anyone use the mint green kind before.

    8. I know the green stuff that comes with DC/DZ dolls is awful to remove and leaves residue and stains. Not sure which brand they use specifically though. I tend to use white UHU brand putty.

    9. Yeah! Finally he came.
He is Leo with 70cm 18M body , one of Sketch Group Order dolls.
Share wigs and eye information for those who ship across the ocean.

IMO 14mm narrow ones would look the most suitable. In fact, the 16mm one is too large to fit into the eyeball hole and 12mm one is little small to fulfill the eye hole.

The eyeball he is wearing in the photo is 12mm glass eyes.

The 8 inch wig (above) fits well and the 8.5" one (below) looks fine. But I think 9 inch ones would be a little big.
And... I gonna browse to get his shoes now. The shoes of 70cm dolls with 9cm-feet didn't fit.

    10. @pontoon Congrats on your new boy! Thanks so much for sharing your experience on the eye and shoe fitting. He's gorgeous and I'm so happy he is home!

    11. Lovely! Are you located in Asia?
      He reminds me of Venitu.

      • x 2
    12. @pontoon Congratulations! It's so nice to see the real Leo, and not just a sketch. He's very handsome indeed, I'm a big fan of this sculpt. :3nodding:

      • x 5
    13. Thank you! It is worthy to wait:dance

Yup. I live in Asia, so shipping would have been faster than other continents!
I had a similar thought while drawing his face. 'Oh, who do you look like? maybe 5th motif?'
He is the same as the sketch order thumbnail image, but not exactly same.

me, too. He's the most handsome head I've ever had. I also ordered DZ prajna, I think that two images fit together :)

    14. Hello friends! Does anyone have a large Arsene head they've hybrid onto another body and think looks nice? I've got a secondhand head incoming & am looking to purchase an outfit... but need to find a good body for him first to make sure I get the right size outfit. Any ideas would be super helpful!

    15. Congratulations ! He is so handsome
I am waiting for my Leo too. Do you get the other two heads of Leo? I am so worry that dollshe not post the other two heads on their ins...

      • x 3
    16. Oh, I didn't get the other heads. When I ask how long time take to ship my Leo, Dollshe said prototype maker had injured so it would be delayed to complete Leo's other faces. They also asked whether I want to get him now without 2 type of faces - and I received one head and one body, two different hands and feet parts.

    17. I got an erica snow head secondhand, I’m pretty excited because I have a trio that so far only dollshe has felt right for, but I will never do another dollshe wait, plus erica snow isn’t available anymore. The first of the three!
But now comes finding a body. I’m not even sure where to begin, most I find don’t look like they’d fit

      • x 1
    18. When did Dollshe discontinue Erica Snow? I've been waiting on one since May 2020 and he's already no longer offering the resin I ordered...

      • x 1
    19. I just was poking at her page to see measurements and it says “sold out” so she’ll likely come back, but she’s not available right now to order @Girrl

    20. I know, I know that Dollshe's waiting times are somewhere between ridiculous and scammy and I don't want to give the guy money.

But Classic Maxi Aramis is down to $370 and that's a very pretty sculpt.

I'm probably not going to actually buy him because I don't like Dollshe's business practices, I'm too impatient to cope with the wait time and he's way too big for me but a girl can dream.

      • x 1
    21. You should email him and tell him that you really like that sculpt but are reluctant to order because of his bad reputation. He needs to know this.

I got an email saying my doll is ready to ship and did I want to pay extra to have her shipped put together. I said I'm pretty sure there's videos on YouTube to help me put her together.

      • x 2
    22. stringing a doll isn't as hard as it seems. Yeah, it's a little daunting to do the first time but it gets easier each time you do it, honest.

      • x 6
    23. Dollshe dolls are also really straightforward to put together too. Honestly, I could restring my DollShe boys with my eyes closed. I'm sure you'll be perfectly fine!

      • x 2
    24. The only thing to mind when restringing one is to make sure the knot does not go into a leg channel. That was something I had to learn the hard way.

      • x 2
    25. I think the bigger Dollshe boys are pretty forgiving even then, as their channels are pretty wide. 99% sure my Saint has his knots in his shins.

      • x 1
    26. I just got a second hand DT17 body and the knots were in the shins on her too!

      • x 1
    27. I recently re-strung a doll for a friend (not a Dollshe) and was surprised to find the knots in her shins as well (each leg was a separate string, too). When I re-strung her I located the knots in her chest as there was no way both knots would fit through the head hole.

      • x 1
    28. I have a Faceplate Saint on a Pure Body (I think that's what it's called). Somehow, the knot went down into the leg. This was no problem for posing the doll or carrying it around. It did become a big problem when I needed to do some work and re-string the doll. If I recall, the elastic was just getting old. That's when I found the knot, that I worked really hard to get out. I think I had to get a very sharp knife and cut the knot out inside the channel. I told my more experienced friend about this, and she gave me a funny look. A few years later, she had a similar experience with a Dollshe and let me know I wasn't crazy. Since then, I've always make extra sure no knots go into a leg.

    29. I just checked my David because he's sitting next to me and his knots are literally right above his ankles oh dear.

    30. I have literally no idea what this stuff about knots means. Anyone with to do a YouTube video?

I actually have a tracking number now.

    31. The elastic comes by the yard or on large spools. It has to be cut and knotted into a loop.

      • x 1
    32. I think the question was more 'why is having the knots in the legs a bad thing'

    33. it depends on the style of the knot and the width of the channel in the leg. if the knot is too big for the channel, it can get stuck and be VERY difficult to remove!

      • x 1
    34. Having a knot end up stuck in a joint can also greatly hinder the movement and balance of your doll.

      • x 1
    35. So are there any non-DillShe bodies you all know work well with a Diana Head and color match to their copper oriental?

    36. I’m using a Supia65 for my Diana head but both are NS.

    37. NS? Do you have a link for where to get a Supia?

    38. Check out the Parts section on their website. You can get the bodies, heads, etc. separate. :) LOVE, SUPIADOLL

      • x 1
    39. Thank you because when I Googled Supia BJD I got links to shady eBay listings. Do their dolls stand on their own and important things like that.

Is it possible to dye a body to match a head?

    40. You could try dying a body to match but it may be easier as far as matching goes to dye the head to match the body. Parts can take dye differently so you might have some slight variation in colour when dying each part. Just dying the head will obviously give you less chances of having colour variations and some blushing to match during the face-up would likely take care of any colour difference. Airbrushing the head to match the body is also a very viable and perhaps easier way to go although I'm not a face-up artist so can't really speak with authority on how easy/hard that is.

Of course if the head already has a face-up you don't want to wipe, that complicates things. That's the problem I have with the extra Hound head I have. It has a beautiful face-up by Barbello and it's in honey mango oriental resin, which Dollshe doesn't make anymore. Wae-Lan (MD Aseal head) gave me the same sort of problem in that he has a gorgeous face-up I utterly refuse to wipe (it was part of what prompted me to buy his head and I don't know who did the face-up either *sigh*) and since he's an older sculpt in mellowed WS and limited, finding him a body was tough. He's on a 5Star WS body and the mismatch is glaringly obvious but since he wears high-necked clothing, I don't really care.

    41. Yes, yes they do. I use a Supia body for a dancer character. Here she is on the Double Jointed body (Link, Link) and on the newer Ballerina body (Link) I can also get her to hold some beautifully natural looking sitting and lounging poses. Sadly no photographic evidence of that yet because, well, 3 elbow surgeries in the last 18 months :sigh

      • x 1
    42. I'm sorry about the elbow surgeries. Ouch! But do they have a color that will work with copper oriental?

    43. Sorry, I don't have an answer for this one, I don't have any dolls in copper oriental
Also, elbow surgery - totally not recommended, 0/5 stars

      • x 2
    44. Do you have a pic of your Diana on the Supia body? I'd love to see. My Diana came with two extra heads - a sleeping head and one where her eyes are not quite as wide. Then I saw someone say a sleeping head can be modded to open the eyes?

      • x 1
    45. Lovely photos! I'm impressed by the array of props you have for them, and the fact that you can find all of them when you need them ;) (I have an absolute tonne of various props, but can NEVER find the one I'm looking for :doh)
Where did you get the lovely teal coat she's wearing? The fit and tailoring look great!

    46. I think you mean the short jacket. A bit tight to button but great worn open. It’s from SartoriaJ.
I don’t always find the props I want. The other day I couldn’t find my Rubik’s cube so I used a slinky instead.

    47. Well, I bought my first Amanda Beauty in pale today from BJDivas. It was in stock so I hope I get it soon. This will be a challenge since it will be my first white doll, it isn’t an Asian sculpt, and the full bust will also be a first. Wish me luck!

    48. So many firsts! Good luck!

    49. I finally have my Amanda Beauty after waiting 2 years and around 5 months. There were mail issues after I posted here on August 2nd, that my doll was finally being sent out by Dollshe Craft. I bought through BjDivas and they were a lot of help for me. Now that she is here, in a different color than I ordered, with a different sized head, I am relieved but when I compare the head to my earlier Amanda Beauty it looks different in character to me. The nose looks smaller. The head would not turn on the body and the S hook is larger than the head hole. I had to have some help getting the head off without losing the stringing. On the plus side, the new resin color does match a head I just got in so I will just use the body for a hybrid. But originally I planned to have her head painted and keep it.

    50. @Cherylsdolls - Congratulations on finally getting your doll! That's a long time to wait. I have a Diana on order (from BjDivas) that is going on a just shy of two years now. :huh?: I'm hoping she will eventually arrive....did you have to pester BjDivas about it or did they have her sent when she was ready?

      • x 1
    51. I did ask BJDivas about my orders and they said Dollshe is shipping orders faster now. I think that means they are receiving more of the back orders. There may be hope!

      • x 6
    52. I remember at one point around maybe the year and a half mark, Dollshe said in an email to BjDivas that they would be making my Amanda and sending her soon but then that didn't actually happen. BjDivas was good about communicating with Dollshe for me but you really can't get Dollshe to send until they just do it. Unfortunately after the 2 year plus mark my doll was finally sent out in a shipment from Dollshe, but then it got lost in the mail, somewhere. BjDivas came through for me with a replacement they had on hand. And I am very grateful that they did that for me. I can't even imagine how long a replacement from Dollshe would have taken. And it didn't take very long for BjDivas to ship the replacement doll to me. Maybe a few days to arrange just because they have a lot of emails to get through all of the time.

      • x 5
    53. Oh thanks for that. Your situation is a bit different.

I just didn't know if I should bother them...(BjDivas) as I know the problem is not with them...but it would be nice to hear...yeah...the order is still out there...in 'progress'.

    54. I finally just paid for shipping for my Rey Lewis from BJDivas after a 3 year wait, and only because someone defaulted on their layaway (still waiting on my SO's doll from the same order).

Does anyone have any recommendations for clothes for the 28m maxi classic body?

      • x 5
    55. I've bought some for my Rey Lewis from BlanchingQueen on Etsy!

    56. Congratulations! Most things sized for Iplehouse EID will fit, though they may be a bit long in the leg/sleeve. The shoes will definitely fit.

      • x 1
    57. Is there a 28m classic body? I aparantly have the classic maxi body and SartoriaJ is telling me there is a classic body so now I'm curious.

Basically I bought clothes from them and the pants don't fit. Not their fault if there are two different bodies with similar names but now I need to know, lol.

    58. @Shai When I hear "classic Dollshe body", I think of the old Hound body from before the 18m Pure. If the outfit you received was made to those measurements, however, it would be almost laughably small for your 28m guy. Probably not what was meant, I guess.

If I heard "Dollshe classic maxi body", I would... sort of assume they meant the 18m Mystic? ... Since it's the default sold with most of the heads and therefore I assume most popular of the current generation. If they thought you ordered for this body, I could believe a stretchy shirt still fitting your 28m but the pants being too small.

Sorry, that's all I got, hope it helps...

Side note - is anyone else unable to divorce the term 'maxi' from thoughts of sanitary supplies? :nowords:

      • x 1
    59. @Havra Hmm yeah, I'm still confused, lol
I know for certain SartoriaJ has a 28m classic body, as that's what their clothes are modeled for...I'm wondering if classic and classic maxi are the same and there was just something tacked on eventually. Everything fit perfectly but the pants, which is the confusion.

Also, no. There is a video game character named Maxi and everyone calls him Maxi pad.
