Dollmore - Illua Doll Discussion Thread - Part 1

Jul 22, 2016

    1. Hi again. Just to let people know who are interested in comparison photos, I also have a Luts Baby Delf and a 1/4 baby-sized Chica Bonita. Once my Illua arrives, I can take a photo of all three together.

      • x 1
    2. Thats a. beautiful sculpt o.o the body is amazing! i just stumbled on this thread randomly xD and im so happy i did ^^

    3. I just received an email notification that my Illua shipped! That was pretty quick I think, since I finished my layaway on November 1st.

I chose registered airmail as the shipping option though, so she probably won't be here for another few weeks unfortunately!

    4. Congratulations! I thought Illua was too heavy for registered airmail!

    5. That's great! I just finished paying my lay away yesterday, so maybe she'll ship in the second half of January, if I'm lucky.

    6. Thanks! And I thought she would be too heavy too! Every website I've looked at (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) says registered airmail's weight limit is 2kg, and I have a hard time imaging a box with a doll that size actually able to be under 4.5lbs, but I guess somehow it worked!

Congrats on finishing your layaway! I cannot wait to see pictures of your girl. I think Renoir's Blue Coat is one of the prettiest fullsets I've ever seen.

    7. For all of those who have Illua in hand, are you satisfied with her? I am thinking about getting her for myself and want to know the pro's and con's.

    8. I love my Illua! I have the Chocolat Blanc version. She is a wonderful size! Don't beleive some of Dollmore's claims of what will fit. She can wear Zaoll panties and hot pants. The top she is wearing was made for a SD doll. Shoes are an issue. She has large feet!

    9. There is "sold" under your picture, so did you sell her?

    10. No, That's just my signature line. I put things I have for sale there. Maybe I should change my "place holder" comment!

    11. I just ordered mine. It will be a long time before getting her as I did the layaway. LOL

    12. Congratulations! Which one did you order?

    13. Hi everyone! My Chocolat Blanc Illua arrived on Dec 20 but I was out of town and didn't have a chance to open her until recently!
Since Dollmore allows requests for different eyes/wig, I asked for the brown Princess Mohair Wig (pictured) and brown eyes, but they actually also included her default blue eyes and blonde wig from the stock pictures! That was so nice of them! :D
I will be changing her eyes and wig to brown soon, but decided to take a picture of her with the blue eyes before those go to another doll.

I adore her hands (I ordered hands/feet blushing) and the wonderful default faceup! It's so detailed and I love the brown/apricot tones. I also absolutely love this sculpt and actually might prefer the slight differences on Petit Dahlia more than Lusion Dahlia! Petit Dahlia's face seems better proportioned in my opinion - Lusion Dahlia's nose seems proportionally much smaller. I'll have to take some comparison photos side-by-side later. I am so happy Dollmore released this sculpt. I cannot wait to style her! The default clothing set for the Chocolate Blanc is beautiful quality and I really think the set is a great price :D

My only notes for potential Illua buyers are her seam lines and her weight. She has very highly-raised seam lines, but it was my decision not to order the $60 sanding service since I figured I should be able to easily sand them myself. However, fixing the seam lines might take some of the blushing off her feet so I'll have to be very careful. For this reason, I would advise anyone who orders body blushing to also order Dollmore's seam sanding service. The seams on her torso and feet are really raised, but the legs, arms, and hands seams are pretty standard lines that are about on par with the ones on Volks bodies :)
About her weight: She's obviously much lighter than my 2 SD dolls since she is about 10cm shorter, but she is literally lighter than my 37cm AiL MSD :? I stretched her joints to look inside her limbs, and her resin thickness seems just fine, and she can stand on her own very easily (which I love!) but it was unexpected how lightweight she is. My only other Dollmore doll is my Lusion Dahlia, who is huge and very sturdy, so I do trust Dollmore quality. But I was not expecting the Illua doll to be so lightweight. I don't see this as being bad, just different. Her light weight makes her super easy to pose and move, so some people may even prefer this aspect. But I thought I should mention it anyway.

Sorry for the long post, but that's my review/summary of the new Illua Petit Dahlia! I really do love this doll - she is the first doll whose sculpt and body I like so much that I've 100% decided to order another one soon! :D Her face sculpt and body are just perfect and I'm so happy. I can't wait to experiment with seeing what other heads look good on the Illua body. More pictures will be coming once I play around with styling her and settle on a "look"!

    14. Omg! I got my shipping notice!!! I'm so freakin' excited :dance:D
She was paid in full on December 2 and shipped Jan 6, not bad! I had also ordered things from Dollmore separately, and requested they be shipped together... but they only updated shipping status on the illua doll :huh?: so we'll see, hopefully it was just because they all get the same tracking#

Also, they ship fast! Within a few hours her tracking is updated on usps ~ she is already at the postal facility in Seoul!

When she gets here, I'll be posting up some comparison pics and I'll be sure to make pictures of the her head before face-up.

Also it looks like I'll be able to make comparison pictures with the dollzone 1/4 BB! I was just about to send her off, when I got the notice... so I asked my girlfriend, and she said I could keep her here to get pics :thumbup

Weeeeee! :cheer And now back to obsessively checking the tracking, lol :abambi:

    15. Ohmygosh @ker246 I just saw the pic of your girl :love I'm even more excited about my illua doll after seeing her and reading your review :XD: I look forward to more pics and to comparison pics with your lusion!

    16. Yay!! Congrats on the shipping notice! I look forward to seeing pictures of the blank sculpt and am excited to see what her faceup will be! Also thanks so much for remembering the Dollzone body :D

Thanks! I hope you will be as happy as I am when your girl arrives! I think the Illua hands and and chunky limbs are adorable and so similar to the Lusion. They're such fun!

    17. The new Illua is so cute.

      @ker246 Thanks for your review!
@Studio404 I also really like the 1/4BB DZ dolls, so I'll also be looking forward to your comparison pictures.

    18. :D:D:D
My Illua doll came in yesterday! She is the Petit Dahlia Chocolat Blanc. I ordered her in normal skin with no faceup. I also ordered for her 2 pairs of shoes (which turned out to be a very good thing, as her feet are huge! ~as was previously mentioned by @nancy_schroeder_ca ), and the princess mohair wig in carrot (which she is wearing in the pictures). The princess mohair wig was a bit loose, so I sewed in a bit of elastic, and now it is perfect.

She arrived packaged very beautifully, I was very happy and impressed while opening her. Also, Dollmore very kindly included a pair of lace underwear in Illua's box, and in with the free gift a pair of socks which fit her as well :aheartbea

Here she was yesterday before I left for work, she is wearing the green eyes Dollmore sent her with:

Also, apologies in advance for a very long picture heavy post, hopefully it is useful! EDIT: as suggested by @Cloudedmind I will hide the rest of the post behind a spoiler tag because of the large amount of photos... hopefully this works, lol

Today I got to work on comparison pics as promised :3nodding:...
(A great big thank you to my amazing sweet gf who let me borrow her Dollzone 1/4BB and Baby Delf for a little longer from the other side of the world for comparison pics!)

      And finally sitting:
As you can see, they can all make a similar sitting posture. As a side note: the baby delf is able to slouch more because of her torso joint, and Illua can slouch more or arch her back more due to her amazing torso 'ball' joint.

As for the poseability of the knees and elbows the Illua, Baby Delf, and Dollzone 1/4BB are very similar.
The wrists and ankles are another story altogether...
-- Illua has the potential for a wide range of motion due to her large ball joints, however in my experience she cannot hold her hands or feet in position very well (sueding might be of a great benifit to Illua's hand and feet poseability).
-- Baby delf's hand and feet poseability is better, but is still hindered in my opinion by the way her hands and feet hook on - if you bend them too far the elastic comes unhooked and then you have to restring her whole arm or leg, it's a nightmare!
-- The Dollzone 1/4BB has the widest range of movement and poseability in the wrists and ankles buy far. she can hold just about any pose you put her in.

However that said, I am very happy with Illua doll, she is very beautiful, and I think she is just perfect despite her "flaws".

Also, @ker246 mentioned Illua dolls' light weight. I was curious about this and went ahead and weighed a few of my dolls on a postal scale out of curiosity... Here they are listed heaviest to lightest:
      Volks SD10: 46.6oz
      Dollzone 1/4BB: 35.2oz
      Illua Doll: 34.2oz
      Baby Delf: 28.4oz
      Dollmore Kid boy: 19.8oz

When holding Illua doll she feels like an SD doll to me but surprisingly she weighs less than both the Volks SD10 and the Dollzone 1/4BB

To be continued in next post…
^click^ spoiler button to see the rest of post with photos (many comparison photos, and discussion about poseability and doll weight) dolls included are Illua doll, Volks SD10, Dollzone 1/4BB, Luts Baby Delf, Dollmore kid boy (msd), and briefly a yosd size doll, and a lati yellow :p thanks for looking!

    19. Continued from previous post...

Finally as @ker246 and i think one other mentioned ~ hybrids, I did some head swapping just for fun, mostly i think it came out pretty hilarious...
Illua Petit Dahlia swapped with Dollzone 1/4BB Maca
      [IMG]
Illua Petit Dahlia swapped with Luts Baby Delf Romantic Daisy
      [IMG]
Illua Petit Dahlia swapped with Volks SD10 Nono
(surprisingly i think this one came out the best :sweat however Volks usually puts the elastic knot in the head, so this was interfering with Dahlia's neck function, and I was too lazy to fix it just for a temporary swap)

Ok, Ok, and this brings my insanely long post to a close, hopefully it was informative and somewhat entertaining!

I leave you with two last pics of my Illua doll, and promise to be back sometime later with more detailed pictures of her headmold without faceup (I ran out of daylight, curse you winter sun!)

Did I mention that my Illua doll came with the most eye putty I have ever seen in a single doll? Her head was FILLED :XD: Above is the giant glob of eye putty removed from her head alongside the eye putty I used in it's place! I changed her eyes to the default grey glass eyes that came with my unidoll UH-21... they are still probably too big, but the color is better for now.
^click^ again to see several pictures ~ head swapping Illua with Volks SD10, Dollzone 1/4BB, and Luts Baby Delf. Also included is an anecdote about and picture of the hilariously large amount of eye putty Dollmore shipped in Illua's head!

I leave you with one picture of my girl :3nodding: Thanks again for looking!

Here she is sitting in a mess of doll things on my bed. This seems to be her favorite way to sit, many times when I just set her down she naturally crosses her legs like this, or crosses her feet when outstretched. Does anyone else's Illua do this, or something else that seems to give them character?

    20. @Studio404 Thank you sooo much for all the pictures. However, as I think the discussion threads technically have a one picture per post limit, you may need to either put all the pictures under a spoiler tag, or better yet, create a thread in the picture reference section of the board, so others can also find the comparisons easily in the future. These are all seriously great.:whee:

    21. @Cloudedmind hey, thanks, I could move it to another thread. But in the interest of also keeping it here, what is a spoiler tag, and how do I use it? Please pm me if you can help, thanks!

    22. @Studio404 You are amazing!! :D Thank you so much for so many photographs!
I lol'd at the Illua head on the Dollzone body (I love the look of body so much though - must buy one eventually) but it might just be the angle. The length of the neck on both the Dollzone and Baby Delf bodies look pretty good on the Illua head, which is a good surprise to me. I always have a hard time hybriding heads because of neck length issues, so I'm really glad to see the DZ and Baby Delf bodies might work on some other heads if I bought them!
It's so strange how she really does seem to look best on the SD10, but I think with clothes on she might also look alright with the Baby Delf body, even though she looks a bit funny on it when naked... I'm actually thinking of getting a Baby Delf to take its body for my Illua head and then giving one of my SD heads the Illua body. For some reason I think the Illua head looks a little small on the Illua body. Your reference pictures are so useful!!! I saved them to my computer and phone and will be staring at them for the next few weeks, deciding which body to buy for my Illua head.
I now want to weigh my Illua on a scale! I can't believe yours is only 6 ounces lighter than the SD10! I thought it would be much more. Mine felt so light. It might all have been in my imagination  I need to find my gram scale now.

I have to try to put my girl in a cross-legged position! Yours look adorable sitting like that. Also yes, mine too came with a huge amount of eye putty. I was quite shocked when I opened up her head haha

    23. @Studio404 I actually have another question about the Illua doll and the Baby Delf - how is the resin match? I'm not a huge stickler for perfect resin matching, but I'm wondering if the Luts normal skin is too dark to be paired for an Illua head (and so I should instead consider a Luts white skin body). In your pictures, the normal skin body looks great with the Illua head but I'm not sure if it's just the lighting!

    24. @ker246 thank you so much! I'm glad you liked the pictures!
I agree, I do think illua could be quite cute on the dollzone body. The pictures that really crack me up are the baby heads on the illua body! ROTFLOL*cries*
...I had to check what I wrote down, but Illua is actually about 12oz lighter than SD10!!! That's 3/4 of a pound! :o

The resin match between the Illua ns and baby delf ns are quite close. My guess is that white skin would be too pale. The baby delf ns comes out almost the same in my camera in daylight. To the eye there is more of a difference, but just slightly ~ the baby delf is darker and more yellow. But I think it is a close enough match, especially once the head has a faceup, I think it would be hardly noticable!

    25. Oh LOL I was looking at the weight difference between the Baby Delf and the Illua! No wonder I was confused about 6 ounces  Yeah that 3/4 pound with the SD10 is serious weight!

Both the Baby Delf and DZ heads look truly ridiculous on the Illua body. It's as if their faces are expressing "help me" ahaha especially Maca!

I'm so excited at your response to the Luts resin! I'm really considering getting a Baby Delf body now for my Illua head. I would buy the DZ body but sometimes Alice's Collections has 10% off DZ and so I will wait for that to pop up again, plus I can't decide if I want to buy the Natalia head+body (full doll) because she looks lovely.

I just remembered that I should try my 37cm Alice in Labyrinth body with the Illua head. It might be far too small but I should try just for kicks since it's the only MSD-sized body I have right now. Hopefully I'll get that done this weekend and finally do big and Little Dahlia pictures. Been trying to get a similar wig and eye colors so they can really match nicely. I'm sad Dollmore discontinued their custom clothing size service, because I would have loved matching outfits.

    26. Dollmore has plain Mary Janes and boots up for Illua!

      • x 1
    27. @ker246 I'm really looking forward to seeing the pictures of your illua and lusion together! I'd also be interested to see your AiL head swap!

I was really sad about Dollmore discontinuing the custom size service too! (I'm trying really hard to see it as motivation to sew more myself, lol) I'm hoping they catch on though, and try to make things matching to the lusion size!

On that note, I also mentioned in an email to Dollmore an interest in seeing an Illua size dreaming Dahlia headmold, and they seemed to like the idea. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! (Even though I have no idea where I'd find the money, lol)

    28. Ugh Dollmore seems to have a monopoly on my wallet, so a sleeping Dahlia sculpt would absolutely have to come home with me! It would be fantastic if they designed one with fully closed eyes and not partially-closed eyes like the sleeping Lusion Dahlia. I always wanted the sleeping Lusion's eyes to be a bit more closed, if not completely shut.

Thanks so much for the link, Nancy! I love seeing the Illua next to an Alexia doll as well as theadorable matching dresses pic with the Lusion!

    29. I purchased the Chololate Noir. I am crazy for red heads and I like the darker makeup. It there a way for you to take a photo of the seam lines? I have her on layaway and if the seams are that bad, maybe I can add the sanding service still to my order.

    30. Studio404, I just bought this doll ( the noir version) and
ker 246 mentioned the seam lines being more pronounced in the torso and feet. I had requested a photo from her, but I was wanting to ask you as well if you could supply a picture as well. Just to compare, please if you don't mind! :)

    31. I think it was someone else who reported seam lines on the hands and feet. I'll try to check my girl later. Things are in disarray after finding a roof leak in my doll room! Luckily there was no major damage!

    32. It was ker246, sorry about that.

    33. Hi! I'm out most of today but I can take photos for you tomorrow if that's okay?

    34. Seams vary from doll to doll. If seams both you, I would recommend that you have them sanded.

    35. That would be great, Thank you!!

    36. They don't really bother me, but I would like to see how different they are from doll to doll. If the seam is severe, then I may have them sanded.

    37. I'm contemplating an Illua, have quite a few Lusions. I just ordered the Luts Daisy Elf Baby Delf, so she might need a friend. I really like the most recent set but I'm thinking about getting the blank version...or waiting to see if they release any of the other Lusion sculpts in this size. Love the comparison photos. Especially the one I believe that is the Lusion, Illua and Alexia? I honestly didn't realize how big Alexia was, might have to give her a second look.

    38. I have three Lusions also but I am really having fun with these new smaller children. Yes, that Is an Alexia in the comparison. I have Alexia, Illua and big babies from Myou and Xaga and a Spirit doll Healing Basil. I will do a comparison in the near future. I need to get everything back in place after a little leak in the roof.

    39. Hi! Sorry this took so long. I tried as best I could but only could do so much in the kinda bad artificial lighting. The lines are much more raised than the photos actually show - some of the lines alternate being raised on one side and then the other, which means the light only creates shadows on one side (so the camera couldn't capture the raised areas for both sides). Personally, I would recommend paying for sanding service. I think it's worth it for $60 unless you have multiple grains of sandpaper and a filtration mask (I use 300 for really rough seams, then 700, then 1000 for finishing).

Here is a link to my flickr album with 4 seam line photos, and some height comparisons:
      === click here ===

As promised, here is an image of my Lusion and Illua together! I haven't done facial comparison pics yet because the current eyes I have in my Lusion really don't photograph well, so I'll need to change her eyes to the blue ones before taking more pictures.

    40. Thank you ker246. I had big Lusion at one time and I remember those seams. They will be covered so I am not going to sweat it. I paid her off just this morning, so I guess the wait is on. :)

    48. I really like the illua dolls. More companies should make mini versions of their larger more expensive dolls. I hope dollmore decides to start selling illua heads individually, as they do Lusion heads. It's convenient for those who like doing faceups but can't afford more than one body.

    49. @fairygirl Have you heard anything updates for your Renoir girl? I've been eyeing her on the site and am dying to see in-person photos of her!

    50. Mine has at least another month to go before shipping. I am really awful at waiting :(

    51. The waiting is the hardest part! I usually spend the waiting time looking at clothing and new eyes/wigs for an arriving doll

    52. Heya! Can someone measure the shoulder width of their girl with the arms in? I know dollmore has the measurements up, but I don't know if it with or without the arms :sweat

    53. I'm glad Dollmore has released a mini Daish doll called "Tell me more Petite Daish"
      Dollmore.net :: Everything for Doll & more
I hope that Dolmore also releases a cheaper Daish doll with an optional faceup, similar to "Petite Dahlia Chocolat blanc" and "Petite Dahlia Chocolat noir" I like Daish's face a little more than Dahlia's, though I think both are cute. Which sculpt do you like more?

      • x 1
    54. Yep...I saw her a few days ago when she released, glad they are making other sculpts in the Illua line will be cool to see what sets they come up with in the future, though a basic option would be nice as well for those that don't like the clothing sets. I would prefer the Dahlia Chocolat blanc faceup as well, wish they would do custom faceups, but I already asked and they said they couldn't do the same faceup as dahlia. :( I personally like the basic sets because I typically make my own clothing for my dolls and their fullset just sit in there boxes, this is the case for all of my Trinities. And I suck at faceups..lol..so faceup option would be a plus.

    55. Yes, the full sets usually sit in the box here too! I do like Chocolat blanc's outfit and she does wear it! I usually buy when I see a faceup I like. Maybe we should ask for a release in a simple summer dress. I think I may wait for Lillia.

    56. There are a few Trinities I wish I had waited for because I like the faceups on them more than the ones I have..lol. My Fav faceups: Lumie Schlierenist, Cream Voler klaire, hmmm and Sugar Amnesia Elysia. If only you could send the heads back to Dollmore for custom faceups..lol.

    57. I really like Daish's victorian outfit but, I'd rather do my own faceup and I'd settle for some less fancy clothes, if it meant the doll was less expensive. Eventually, I'd like to learn how to sew an outfit that nice.

    58. Hey all! I just got my Illua body with a Kori White head from Dollmore. I had to mod the neck so her head would fit, but I'm super happy with how she turned out! There's a difference in resin color, likely because the Kori White fullsets didn't sell at all and they've just been sitting there for years. It doesn't bother me, once I give her a faceup she'll match.

So here's Noa, dressed for school with some temporary eyes. :)
